Chapter One
Fifteen-year-old Alexis Cooper was roused from a deep sleep by her mother Alice knocking on her bedroom door to let her know that she needed to get up and dressed so she wouldn't be late for her first day as a freshman at Riverdale High. After taking a ten minute shower, the teenager quickly got dressed.

She then added to her outfit by slipping the bracelet that she had gotten from one of her closest friends Jughead Jones on her last birthday onto her right wrist.
The teen then swiftly styled her blonde locks into a simple but still cute style. She then applied some light makeup which consisted of a bit of mascara and lip gloss. Once she was done getting ready for the day, the fifteen-year-old grabbed her school bag from her desk chair where she'd placed it the night before.
Alexis then headed downstairs to the family kitchen where she found her mother preparing a simple breakfast of pancakes and scrambled eggs along with some fresh sliced fruit.
Alice smiled over at her youngest daughter who was now pouring herself a glass of orange juice before seating herself at the family dining room table next to her older sister Betty. Their father, Hal, had already left for his job at the Riverdale Register, the town's newspaper office that had been owned and run by their family for years meaning that for the first time in a while, there wasn't quite as much tension in the room as there always seemed to be whenever both of the adults were in the same room at the same time.
Another reason that Alexis was glad that her father wasn't at the table when she'd come downstairs was due to the fact that he'd recently begun making little snide comments about the change in her wardrobe over the summer. The teen didn't really get what the big deal was about that though. She kept quiet though whenever her father would start in on her about whatever she happened to be wearing, she knew all too well that trying to argue with him was basically futile.
Her mother on the other hand thankfully came to her defense every single time it happened whenever she was around though, reminding her husband that Alexis just wanted a change when it came to what she chose to wear and to just back off her.
About twenty minutes pass and once both Alexis and Betty had finished eating breakfast with their mother, the two sisters were getting ready to leave their house to walk to school together as they usually did on the first day of school every year since Alexis's first year of middle school.
Before they left though, Alice pulled Alexis aside and told her that she wanted her to meet her at Pop's, the town's local diner and favorite hangout for the teens who resided in Riverdale, once school was over for the day because there was something important that she wanted to talk to her about.
"Got it, Mom. Hope you have a good day at work today." Alice smiled at her youngest daughter before wrapping her arms around her and pressing a soft kiss against her blonde hair.
"Thank you, honey. I hope that you both have a good day today too. God, I can't believe that my youngest baby is already a freshman in high school."
"I might be starting high school today, Mom but I'll always be your baby."
Alice chuckled at her daughter's remark before giving both her and Betty a final hug.
The two teens then made their exit and began the fifteen minute walk to the local high school.
As they were walking, Alexis couldn't help but notice that her sister was being a lot more quiet and withdrawn than she usually tended to be.
"Hey, sis. You okay?"
Betty didn't respond and instead simply shook her head no.
Alexis reached out and grabbed Betty's hand, preventing her from continuing on.
"Betty, you are my big sister and I love you to death but I can also tell that something is really bothering you right now. Please talk to me."
Betty really didn't know how to tell her younger sister what was bothering her. She was all too aware that the younger girl would not stop begging her to open up to her until she did though.
Alexis was a lot like their mother in that aspect but at the same time she was also just a bit more patient than their mother was when it came to waiting for her sister to open up to her.
"I guess I'm just still hurting over the fact that Archie doesn't feel the same way about me as I do for him."
Alexis had had a feeling that this was exactly what had been bothering her older sister the last few days but she hadn't wanted to overstep by flat out asking her about it.
"Sis, this is definitely gonna sound all cliché but I'm just gonna say it anyway. If Archie doesn't see how smart, kind and gorgeous you are, then he's just a certified dumbass. You are an amazing person and I definitely love having you as my big sister."
Betty's green eyes were filled with tears that were threatening to spill over. She wrapped her arms around her sister who immediately returned the hug.
After a moment, the 2 girls pulled away from their hug and started walking once again.A
Alexis's first day as an official high school student quickly passed without much incident. Well, unless you count Reggie Mantle of all people being a disgusting pig by telling her that she 'got fuckin' hot over the summer', which ended up earning him a fist to his smug face courtesy of her longtime best friend Jordan Andrews.
She had also gotten sent to the principal's office during third period by her new English teacher for as the teacher had put it "giving her unnecessary attitude".
Thankfully though, Mr. Weatherbee had decided to cut Alexis a break after hearing her side of the situation. He did mention though that he would be letting her mother know about what had happened.
The teen knew that she would likely be getting an earful later from her mother but she hoped that Alice would be understanding about the situation like Mr. Weatherbee had been, mainly because she had never meant to seem like she was trying to catch an attitude with her teacher to begin with.
It was now time for her to meet up with her mother at Pop's, the town diner and local hangout for most of the teens of the small town.
Upon entering the quaint and homey diner, the teen quickly scanned the establishment looking to see if her mother had already arrived.
Upon failing to spot the older blonde woman, Alexis made her way to one of the booths on the side of the diner where she would be able to see her mother once she arrived. She then ordered her favorite milkshake, chocolate peanut butter swirl. She then decided to get some of the homework a couple of her teachers had given her and her classmates while she waited for her mother to show up.
Her mother still hadn't arrived at the diner by the time Alexis had finished the handful of math problems she had been given that morning by her teacher.
The teen decided to send her mother a quick text asking her if they were still meeting up. It took a few minutes for the older woman to respond but she finally did.
Alice:
I'm so sorry honey. I got caught up working on an article that is supposed to be in tomorrow's issue and lost track of time. Now there's a problem with at least 3 of the printers here at the Register. I'm afraid I won't be able to make it to Pop's. I'll see you later at home tonight. Again baby, I'm so sorry.
Alexis:
It's okay, Mom. I'm actually just gonna hang here at Pop's for a little while longer. I'll be home in time to help you with dinner though.
Alice: Sounds good, sweetie. I'll see you at home in a few hours. Be safe. Love you.💕💕
Alexis: I will and love you too, Mom.💕
