Chapter Text
Dimitri was a simple man. He had messy, dark brown hair and matching eyes. His tan skin was littered with patches of freckles, the majority of them trailing across his nose and cheeks. Dimitri had been raised on the streets as an orphan in a distant, forgotten kingdom. Once he was old enough, he left and became a traveler without looking back.
He stepped off the boat, and just like that he knew this place was different. Elnea Kingdom. Somehow, it felt like home. It felt more like home than any place he had been, including the kingdom he originated from. As he looked at the passing citizens, he noticed that everyone seemed happy. The faint smell of cherry blossoms filled the air in the town. It was a nice, peaceful kingdom.
After he had taken in his surroundings, he set off for the tavern to book a room. On his way there, he passed through the Yano market. The smell of bread and flowers swirled around him, and he felt a comfort he didn't know he could feel. Weary from his travels, he had to stop himself from sitting down and resting right there in the middle of the street. But despite the sudden heaviness of his eyelids, he pushed on knowing that once he reached the tavern there would be a warm bed waiting for him.
It wasn't a long walk to the tavern, but it was pleasant nonetheless. Outside the tavern there was a fountain with small fish swimming in the basin. He wondered who fed them? Maybe everyone in the kingdom did. They did look a little fat. He laughed a little to himself. Dimitri hadn't found anything about this kingdom that wasn't homey. Making his way inside the tavern, he was met with the cheerful, smiling face of a middle aged woman.
"Hello, traveler. I'm Wiala, I own this tavern and the rooms above. Are you in need of a room and a warm meal?"
Dimitri nodded. "I would love a room. This kingdom is a lovely place and I would like to stay longer,"
"Well, the room is free. I don't believe in letting people sleep on the street. The meal on the other hand will cost you a little." Waila finished with a chirp of a laugh.
Dimitri nodded, feeling tears prick at the corners of his eyes. Memories of all of the nights he spent on the cold stone streets of his home kingdom, alone and starving flashed through his head. He pushed the thoughts away and smiled warmly at Wiala, thanking her for her kindness.
After a warm meal in front of a roaring fireplace, Dimitri headed to his room with his knapsack slung over his shoulder and his mind already dreaming. After a long day, he could finally sleep comfortably. He would see more of the wonderful kingdom tomorrow, he assured himself so. So with a full stomach and a blissfully calm head, Dimitri fell asleep without a care in the world for the first time in a long, long time.
