Just a Hook Up, Right?

Summary:

Modern Setting Rhaenicent with a bit of politics because I can.

“wait, you volunteer for Lannister?”

After that sentence, Rhaenyra‘s brain short circuits, and she’s pretty sure she must look it as well, because the redhead’s face goes from confused to concerned in an instant, so she tries to get any semblance of brain power she has left, and takes a step away from her.

“I- uh, no I don’t, I volunteer for Beesbury, also you are aware I am a woman right? Like you’ve been sleeping with another woman”

Notes:

Hey! So this is a short thing I wrote instead of sleeping/studying for my early modern history exam, anyways, hope you like it :)

Chapter 1: Just a hook up

Chapter Text

Rhaenyra opens her eyes slowly, and it takes her a minute or two to regain consciousness, her body feels heavy, maybe she shouldn’t have had that fourth beer, but she bumped into the girl she’s been hooking up since the semester started, and couldn’t pass the opportunity to see if she could take her back to her apartment.

It is exam season after all, and a little stress relief never hurt anybody.

She doesn’t know much about Alicent, she only has her phone number, because asking for anything else felt too personal, and a little desperate, also the last thing she wants is to give her the wrong idea, she has zero time for a relationship at the moment, in between her masters, and volunteering for Beesbury’s campaign for the upcoming election.

The man might be old, but at least he’s not a conservative wanker with policies against gay people and women, the mere fact that people are willingly voting for Lannister annoys her, he’s been nothing if not misogynistic in all of his debates, and the right has been eating that shit up.

The only thing on her mind right now though is water, so she turns to grab the water bottle she usually leaves on her nightstand when she’s met with (more like attacked by) a mane of auburn hair, and her goal completely shifts.

Right, she did manage to convince Alicent last night to go back to hers.

Well, -convinced- might not be the right word, because she had a feeling that they both knew the outcome of where the night was going to end the second they locked onto each other.

Hence, the fourth beer, they had a mandatory pre-hook up drink, flirted foe a bit and off they went.

She moves Alicent’s hair away from her own face before settling her hand on the other woman’s naked waist, maybe she should go get them both glasses of water, or is that too relationship-y?

Wait, that’s so stupid, she’s just going to get the woman a glass of water, she’s a human being, of course she needs water, she can’t read into a glass of water, why is she overthinking this?

“I can hear you think from over there” the sentence is mumbled against one of her pillows, so she moves closer “hung over are we?” The other woman turns to face her, and takes her hand to place it back on her waist “no, you just tired me out, it’s all” she knows she must be wearing a pretty big shit eating grin at the moment because a hand is placed on top of her face and she can just feel the way the redhead is rolling her eyes, so she kisses her palm, and places her hand behind her own neck “not too tired I hope?”

She doesn’t have anything to do this morning, might as well have a bit of fun.

She leans in to kiss the other woman lazily but with intent at first, waiting for the energy to change before she gets her hopes up for anything other than a make out session, with Alicent it can be 50/50 sometimes she’s into morning sex, sometimes she mumbles something about being late against her lips and flies out of her room.

She feels the redhead’s fingertips caress the underside of one of her boobs, and she knows she has the green light, so she moves in to kiss that spot in her neck that she knows drives Alicent mad until her phone starts ringing.

Damn it, it’s probably from the campaign, she sighs against her neck, and gives her a quick kiss before getting out of bed and putting on the sleeping shirt she threw on top of her desk chair yesterday morning, before answering the phone.

“Targaryen, we need you here to cover for one of the idiots that didn’t show up this morning” it’s all she gets as a greeting from the volunteering team manager, but she feels there’s an internship opportunity there so rubbing her face she reluctantly gives up on the chance of morning sex the gods had laid out for her “alright, I’ll be there in an hour” and…they hung up.

Volunteering in politics as a student really is a thankless job.

She turns with a sheepish expression ready to apologize, when she catches Alicent getting dressed at the speed of light, which amuses her greatly “You know you don’t need to run out of here just because I’m leaving, right?”

Rhaenyra is going off by vibes alone in this one, but she’s pretty sure the other woman doesn’t seem like someone who would steal all her shit.

Alicent halts her movement for a second before shaking her head and sauntering over her in just her jeans and a bra, pulling her towards her, and kissing her until Rhaenyra feels like maybe she doesn’t really need the internship after all, and fuck it, she’ll just use her Dad’s contacts to get a job somewhere, Viserys surely would love that anyways.

“I wasn’t, but I saw the time and I should get going anyways, I have a staff meeting in two hours”

Wait, staff meeting?

Again, she doesn’t know much about Alicent, she remembers she told her about a bachelor degree in poli-sci and that her masters had something to do with numbers, but apart from that she’s lost.

At least now she kinda knows why she runs off some mornings though.

She kisses her once and pulls her into her by the loops on her jeans “I didn’t know you worked on the weekends” Alicent brushes some platinum her behind her ear “It’s not really a job, just helping out at a political thing my Father roped me into”

Hold up, what?

“Oh I volunteer too, I haven’t seen you at the headquarters” she sees Alicent’s confused expression “wait, you volunteer for Lannister?”

After that sentence, Rhaenyra’s brain short circuits, and she’s pretty sure she must look it as well, because the redhead’s face goes from confused to concerned in an instant, so she tries to get any semblance of brain power she has left, and takes a step away from her.

“I- uh, no I don’t, I volunteer for Beesbury, also you are aware I am a woman right? Like you’ve been sleeping with another woman”

And she expects many reactions, but one of amusement and, dare she say, relief? Was not in her bingo card.

Alicent steps into her space again, and drops her forehead on her shoulder as she lets a breathy silent laugh.

“Yes, I’m very aware you are a woman”

She’s still very confused by all of this, why would she be volunteering at that asshole’s campaign, does she vote conservative? She didn’t think she needed to ask another queer woman if they voted conservative, it seemed so obvious, why would you vote against yourself?

Why is she spiraling?

She needs information from the source immediately, so she places her hands on the redhead’s hips, and takes a tiny step back, and tries to look into those very big brown eyes that kinda sealed the deal for her the first time she saw her at Laena’s friend’s party.

“Is it his views on the economy then, because I don’t get why you’d vote for him”

The redhead scrunches her nose, and this can’t be a moment she finds her cute, it’s just not allowed.

“Oh I’m not voting for him, I told you, my Father roped me into working for Lannister, why would I vote for that asshole?”

Relief floods her system then and lets out a laugh “Oh thank fuck, I was scared there for a moment, but how did your Dad managed that?”

And maybe it was the wrong thing to ask, because the air gets very still for a moment, so she backtracks.

Look the redhead is fantastic in bed, really smart and pretty and Rhaenyra is only human, sue her.

“Sorry if I overstepped, with that, you don’t- obviously you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to”

She feels Alicent studying her face for a second, and sees the red head shake her head with something akin to reluctance before she grabs her hands from her hips and puts them behind her neck.

“My Father’s an ass, he’s in charge of the hole campaign, and told me that if I didn’t help out he’d stop paying for my masters, so I’m doing the bare minimum to keep him content enough”

She says all of this with such an, it is what it is energy, that Rhaenyra can only say the first thing that comes into her mind “sorry your dad’s an ass” and maybe it’s the right thing if the laugh she gets in return is anything to go by.

“Yeah, well, could be worse I guess”

The silence that falls between them after that is not uncomfortable, not really, but because it is starting to feel like it befalls in the -more than a hook up- territory, she needs to break it, quickly.

She moves a little bit closer to the redhead and places her lips an inch or so from hers “So does that mean that we can get back to what we were doing before…or?” And the kiss she gets in return it’s nothing if not enthusiastic, “weren’t you the one that needed to leave?” She starts to unbutton Alicent’s jeans, and place kisses on the column of her throat “I mean, I am helping out the campaign, keeping the enemy’s volunteers from canvassing and all that”

Rhaenyra gets to headquarters thirty minutes late and with a very noticeable hickey on her neck, but she’s definitely not complaining about that.
