“Time for a proper Hogwarts welcome” the cocky student smirks as he walks to the other end of the classroom.
The dueling platform rises from the ground as the new Hufflepuff student and the Slytherin student prepare themselves.
Amanda is the new 5th year student and new to the magical world and has the obvious disadvantage to the arrogant slytherin student who obviously has dueling experience based on his performance before class.
“Now I want a fair fight between you too. You may begin”
“Leviosa!” The slytherin strikes first.
A perfectly timed protego followed up with a quick stupefy sends the boy stumbling a few steps back. A look of shock is on the boys face but is quickly replaced with a smile as he looks at his opponent with a small look of awe on her face.
“Leviosa!” Amanda casts.
“Protego” the slytherin casts but is a second late and he is lifted in the air.
Amanda is surprised in herself but tries to not let it show as her spells start to push the brunette off the dueling platform. He drops back down to the platform ready for more.
The students quickly bounce back and forth exchanging protegos and stupefy with no advances either way. Amanda’s inexperience with dueling catches up to her when the boy quickly slips in a Leviosa before he takes her stupefy to the chest. The small stumble back is well worth it as the new student is lifted above the platform. He smirks at her. Light shots of magic push her towards the back of the platform. When she drops to the table she quickly shoots off her own Leviosa, catching the boy off ground with her quick recovery. She came back ready to end the duel.
Her magic pushes him back to the very end of the platform and his feet hit the surface. He starts his incantation but she is too quick and lifts him off of his feet again and shoots off three bursts of magic. She is smart and knows that she has won. He looks down to see himself dangling over the ground and the dueling table in front of him. His shocked face is met with a smirk but he can see in her blue eyes she is shocked by her own skill.
With a soft thud he hits the ground and sees Amanda jump off the platform and walk towards him.
“Not bad for a beginner. You give as good as you get” the boy smirks
“Are you hurt at all? When your magic hit me it-“
“Well done you two. Class is dismissed. Please see me before you leave Miss Davenport” Professor Hecat says and most of the students shuffle out.
“Come see me once you're done.” He says smoothly and walks away.
“That was excellent for your first time dueling. But you will need much more practice to face the goblins or dark wizards that you will encounter. I will send you some assignments to complete and schedule some private lessons. I also believe Mr. Sallow may have some ideas to help you practice your skills”
“Thank you Professor. I will make sure to talk to him.” With that Amanda started to walk to the back of the classroom where the freckled brunette Slytherin waited for her.
“Mr Sallow I presume?” Amanda says with a smirk.
“I see Hecat revealed my identity and ruined the mysterious Slytherin persona I was going for. I’m Sebastian.”
“Hi Sebastian.” She smiles, “I’m Amanda.”
“Everyone knows who you are. The mysterious new person that suddenly joined the top wizarding school in the world as a 5th year and arrived late to the sorting ceremony after being attacked by a dragon. You're basically a legend already!”
“Don’t forget to add defeating Sebastian Sallow in a duel.”
“Oh yes we can’t forget to add that to the list.”
“Good.” She let out a light laugh. “Professor Hecat mentioned you may know a way for me to get more duelling practice?”
“Yes. There’s an unsanctioned and exclusive duelling organization that might be the perfect fit for you”
“Unsanctioned? Are you sure we won’t get in trouble if the headmaster finds out?”
“Ha! You breeze off being attacked by dragon but worry about breaking a few rules now and again? Trust me on this.” Sebastian takes a half step closer to her “If you want to get the most out of your time at Hogwarts then you are going to have to break the rules now and then.”
A gentle cherry color rises to Amanda’s cheeks. “How am I to know this won’t lead to a sneak attack on me? I am sure you may want your revenge on me after what I just did to you in class.” Amanda sasses back at her new friend.
Sebastian’s hearty laugh fills the space between the two students. “Like I said you will have to trust me on this. Meet me by the entrance clocktower this afternoon if you aren’t too scared” he teases.
“Well I’m sure that even with the element of surprise I can knock you off your feet” and Amanda takes a half step closer to him.
It was Sebastian’s turn to blush. “See you this afternoon then” and he walks out of the classroom.
Amanda gently chuckles to herself and fiddles with her wand. For typically being so shy Sebastian seems to bring out a different side of her.
