Work Text:
“Ouch.” Diana pulled her hand back quickly and winced.
“You alright?”, M asked, looking over at the other worried trying to figure out what happened.
Diana just nodded, trying to ignore the pain.
“Yeah, just burnt myself a little. Nothing too bad.”, she quickly replied hiding her red hand from her lover’s field of view.
“Do you need something to cool it or something?” M raised an eyebrow and reached out a hand.
Diana just shook her head. “Nah, it’s okay. Thanks, love.” She smiled making a throwaway gesture with her not-injured hand, while clenching her teeth.
They went back to preparing dinner.
M continued to cut the vegetables, while Diana looked after the noodles in the pot and the meat slowly simmering in the pan.
When M was finished cutting the vegetables, she handed them to Diana, who took the with one hand, clearly still not using the hand she had hurt before.
M took the cutting board back and put it aside, facing Diana, who looked a tad confused.
She carefully took Diana‘s hand into hers and looked at it with a pitying look in her beautiful eyes.
It was burnt. Of course it was. Diana had burnt it on the noodle pot.
Diana looked away, feeling ashamed.
“Sorry.”, she said and bit her lip.
“Darling, why are you apologizing?”, M asked softly cubbing Diana’s cheek with one hand.
Diana didn’t say a word. She didn’t know what to say. She didn’t know why she was sorry or why she was feeling ashamed of being injured.
She slowly turned around to face her lover before burying her face in said’s shoulder.
M smiled a soft and sad smile and pulled Diana into a hug.
“You don’t have to hide these things from me, okay?”
Diana nodded, but didn’t say a word. There were no words needed anyway.
After a while the two parted from the hug and looked at each other for a few seconds before Diana started blushing and looked away.
M giggled and took Diana’s hand again pulling her towards the first aid kit at the wall near the kitchen door.
“Come on, little bird.” M chuckled and Diana sat down on the kitchen counter, enjoying being taken care of.
M swiftly opened the kit and pulled out some burn ointment, opened the packaging and applied some of the cream on her own hand before dipping a finger into it and softly spreading it on the burn mark on Diana’s hand.
Diana winced, but smiled through the pain, while M looked at her with worry.
She quickly put a bandage on the injury and then planted a small kiss on it.
“Better?” She looked at Diana, who nodded again and opened her mouth slightly.
“Yeah.”, she replied with a bit of a hoarse voice and smiled. “Thank you.”
She opened her arms and pulled M into a hug again.
Both of them smiled while Diana buried her face into M’s shoulder again and M softly stroked through Diana’s hair.
They were safe.
