Work Text:

A light breeze fluttered the white curtain as it carried the fresh scent of spring, warming the room with the few rays of sunshine peeking through it. It was a peaceful afternoon, only the sounds of the chirping birds and the ruffling of leaves disturbed the quiet but that didn't make it any less serene.

"Hello, you." Suletta greeted as she crouched in front of the open window, looking at a bird that had just landed on the railing.

She chuckled when the bird began to happily sing to her, as if it was greeting her back in its own way.

"Shh, not so loud…" she shushed the bird before turning to cast a longing look at the sleeping form on the bed. "My wife is napping."

The redhead stood up and approached her wife, making sure her steps were as light as possible. Miorine was sleeping soundly, her hair splattered on the pillow like fresh cloth of snow with her face calm and relaxed as she took light puffs of air.

Suletta smiled tenderly and reached down to caress her wife's cheek. Azure eyes traveled from her beloved's face to her elegant neck, chest and finally….her swollen belly.

She felt her throat constrict as emotions swarmed her just like that day when Miorine broke the news of her pregnancy to her. She still couldn't believe it… Miorine was carrying their baby…. They were going to be parents!

It felt so unreal… this happiness almost seemed as ethereal as the beautiful woman laying in front of her.

Suletta sighed deeply and sat at the edge of the bed, contemplating and admiring Miorine like an otherworldly creature.

She would be lying if she said she wasn't scared. After all, this was a whole new chapter of their lives. However, just looking at her wife gave her the reassurance and determination to do this. It wasn't the first time they had been thrown into the unknown…and they always managed to do a remarkable job together.

Suletta bent down and rested her forehead on Miorine's stomach. "Just so you wait, little one. We're going to have so much fun together and Mio and I will be the best parents you'll ever wish for." She murmured to the unborn child and chuckled when the baby kicked in response.

At that, Miorine frowned and began to stir. "Hmm…Suletta?" She mumbled sleepily.

"Hey." Suletta said softly. "I'm sorry we woke you up. I was just having a fun little conversation with this one here." She pointed to her belly as she grinned at her.

Miorine hummed and turned to her side, slightly wincing when she felt another kick. "Ouch…"

Suletta immediately perked up at that. "Are you okay? Does it hurt somewhere?"

The white haired woman smiled gently at Suletta's fretting. She had been this way the moment she learnt Miorine was pregnant, and was always eager to help her and tend to her every need.

"I'm fine, it's just that this one has one hell of a kick."

The redhead sighed in relief and chuckled. "Such a little rascal."

Miorine smiled and nodded.

They stayed like that for a few moments. Miorine laying on the bed and Suletta sitting by her side, just looking at each other. Lost in their cocoon as ocean blue eyes melt with mercurial ones.

Suletta took one of Miorine's hands and began to idly play with it until the smaller woman's voice broke the silence in a gentle murmur. "I had a funny dream, you know."

"Oh?"

"Mmhmm…I was standing on top of a giant lemon blueberry layered cake…it was so soft and fluffy that I couldn't help but jump and bounce on it."

Suletta raised her eyebrows then guffawed. "Who are you and what have you done to Miorone Rembran?"

Miorine lightly swatted her hand and pouted. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Suletta raised her hands in surrender. "Nothing! It's just that it's something I would usually dream of y'know…." She gulped as Miorine said nothing and sent her a pointed stare instead. "Um…m-m-miorine-san ?"

She still said nothing.

"Uh a-are you trying to tell me something?"

"...."

"Something you need?"

"...."

".... could it be… are you craving lemon blueberry layered cake, Miorine-san?"

Miorine huffed and turned on the other side. "Took you long enough."

"You know… you could have just told- alright! Alright! I'll get it for you." Suletta began but quickly went back on her words at the sight of those glaring steely gray eyes. "I'll buy it in that favorite bakery of yours er what's it called again?"

Miorine frowned and slightly pouted. "Are you doing this on purpose?"

"Hm ?" Suletta tilted her head in that very cute manner she knew her wife secretly adored. "What do you mean, Miorine-san?"

Miorine narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "Don't play coy with me, Suletta."

"But Miooo~" Suletta whined and leaned a little closer to her. "You need to tell me the name of that bakery so I can bring you that fluffy and moist lemon blueberry layered cake."

Miorine kept staring at her, struggling to keep that frown at the sight of adorable puffy cheeks and big blue eyes as Suletta pouted. She eventually gave in and huffed. "It's called b..n in the…ven…" she muttered.

"Could you repeat that, please? I didn't hear anything."

"..."

"Mio-Mioooo~" Suletta hunched even more, practically shoving her own face to Miorone's.

"Ugh! Fine! Get away from me!" The woman grumbled, pushing Suletta's face away with her hand. "A bun in the oven. There, happy?"

Suletta threw her head backwards and laughed heartily to Miorine's dismay. A bun in the oven was her go-to bakery. She was reluctant to try their delicacies at first judging by that awful pun, but as soon as she tasted their cakes, she was a goner. It was even more ironic now given her present physical disposition….

"This is not funny." Miorine clipped as she looked away.

"Aww…" Suletta cooed after having calmed down. She nuzzled the upset woman's cheek and started to pepper her face with kisses. "I'm sorry, I'll bring you as many slices as you want."

Miorine hummed, her expression already softening as her lips perked up in a small smile. "Bring the whole cake."

Suletta chuckled then placed a gentle and soft kiss on her lips. "As you wish, my queen." She pecked her one more time before getting up. "I'll be back before you know it."

Suletta stood with a blank expression in front of A Bun In The Oven bakery. It was closed… She slowly approached the entrance and noticed a note on the door, saying that the shop would be going under renovations that would last for a month starting today… just her luck.

"Ugh! What do I do now?!" She started pacing as she absentmindedly bit on her thumb's nail.

This was bad. Miorine could get in a hellish mood when her cravings weren't met. Once, she woke Suletta up in the middle of the night because she had a sudden urge to eat a certain brand of chocolate. So, the poor redhead had to run around in the cold night, trying to find what she wanted. She failed, and she had to sleep on the couch.

Lemon blueberry cake was her absolute favorite cake, and she only ate it from this bakery specifically…. which would be closed for a month.

Suletta felt shivers running down her spine just from imagining her wife's reaction. You never know with pregnant women, and especially a pregnant Miorine. What if she decided to divorce her in the heat of the moment?

"Freaking son of a tomato!" Suletta swore lamely as she thought about that eventuality.

Then she suddenly stopped. If she couldn't get it for her, she would make it for her.

With a renewed determination, she stood straight and nodded. She fetched her phone from her pocket before starting to walk and dialed a familiar number. "Hello, Nika? Could you do me a favor and take Mio to her doctor's appointment? I'm afraid I'm gonna be busy this afternoon..."

Suletta hummed a happy tune as she put the groceries on the kitchen table. She realized she probably had half of the ingredients at home but she wanted fresh ones for this. Fresh lemons and blueberries, eggs, brown sugar, flour, vanilla… She bought everything.

Luckily, Miorine had already left for her appointment when she got home. Good, that speared her from answering unwanted questions.

Suletta started to rummage in the pantry and drawers to get all the utensils she needed. Truth to be told, baking wasn't exactly her forte. While her cooking skills had gotten exponentially better, she hardly ever ventured in the baking area.

Still, she did go from burnt scrambled eggs to mastering all of Miorine's favorite dishes and hers too. She could do this.

Once she got everything she needed, she prepped herself and browsed through her phone to find the recipe.

Suletta's forehead hit the kitchen table with a heavy thud. Next to her was the cake… half burnt. This was her third one.

She didn't understand. She had followed the recipe step by step, measured the ingredients with the utmost accuracy and set the temperature in the oven exactly how it was stated. Yet, she still managed to mess it up.

"What am I doing wrong?!" Suletta ran her hands in her hair in frustration. "Isn't it supposed to be a simple recipe? Just put the right amount of ingredients in the mixer? And why can't I get the temperature right? Why are the blueberries always sinking at the bottom?!"

She groaned and rubbed her face. Miorine was going to divorce her. Will she even get to see the baby? Oh god, the baby! She was already failing at being a parent without it even being born yet. Maybe she could bargain for custody with Miorine's favorite brand of chocolate?

As the poor redhead got drowned in her swirl of desperate thoughts, she failed to notice the presence at the kitchen's door.

"Um…is everything alright, Suletta?" The person asked, causing the girl to yelp and fall off her chair.

"L-L-Lilique?! What are you doing here?!" Suletta stuttered, red faced.

"I just needed some documents from Miorine's study. She gave me the keys." Lilique stated as she dangled their house keys.

"Oh, I see…"

A few awkward, silent moments passed with Suletta looking anywhere but Lilique. She was a bit embarrassed that someone had witnessed her voicing out loud her frustrations at her blatant baking failure. But she was relieved Lilique had been the one to walk on her and not Miorine.

"You should toss your blueberries in a bit of flour to avoid them sinking." Lilique spoke first with a gentle tone.

Suletta blinked and looked up. "W-what?"

"And you probably didn't correctly adjust the temperature in the oven. Also, did you prepare the dry and wet ingredients separately before mixing them?"

"Wet…dry…" Suletta mumbled as she blinked like an owl at Lilique's words.

The other woman simply chuckled and walked up to Suletta. She crouched down and grinned. "Let's try once again. I'll help you."

Suletta just opened and closed her mouth multiple times before sitting up and taking both of Lilique's hands in hers. "You're an angel." She said solemnly, almost tearing up.

Lilique giggled at her friend's theatrics. "As dramatic as ever. Let's begin, shall we?"

"We did it! I'm not gonna get divorced!" Suletta happily exclaimed just after finishing smoothing out the buttercream on the cake. It looked flawless, she just needed to add some dollops with some frozen blueberries on top and that would be done.

" You did it, Suletta. I simply gave you pointers." Lilique stated next to her.

Suletta turned to look at her friend with a serious expression. "You showed at my door like an angel of providence. I shall forever be grateful to you."

Lilique chuckled and shook her head in response.

They both jumped as they heard someone unlocking the door. "Suletta !" Miorine called out from the entrance as she tossed out the keys on a bowl. "Are you here?"

Suletta gulped and began to shift in place. She felt a reassuring hand on her shoulder and turned to look at Lilique. "I'm sure she'll love it."

The redhead nodded before perking up as if she had just realized something. "Oh shoot! She can't come to the kitchen!" She grabbed her friend's shoulders tightly. "Don't let her come this way! Tell her to wait for me in the living room. Go go!"

Lilique didn't even have the time to say anything that Suletta was ushering her out. She sighed and walked away, deciding to humor her.

"Lilique? I thought you were supposed to come get those reports way earlier. Is everything alright?" Miorine asked as she met with Lilique in the foyer.

"Oh! No. Everything's fine, I just had a delay at the office but nothing to worry about." Lilique said before stepping closer and talking in a hushed tone. "Also, Suletta asked me to tell you to wait for her in the living room. She has a surprise for you." With that, she winked then left.

Miorine hummed in thoughts then shrugged. Knowing Suletta, she was sure to enjoy whatever surprise she had prepared for her.

She leisurely walked to the living room and threw herself on the sofa with a heavy sigh. Her appointment to the doctor tired her and her feet were killing her. She was exhausted and sore and she just wanted to lay there forever.

Her eyelids were getting heavier and heavier until she saw Suletta entering the living room. Her posture was ramrod straight as she was carrying a big lemon blueberry layered cake on one hand, and a basket in the other one.

She stopped at the foot of the sofa and bowed. "My queen." She said in an overly pompous voice as she presented the cake to her. "Fresh from A Bun In The Oven.

Miorine ignored her teasing, instead eyeing the object of her recent craving. She reached a hand to run her finger on the frosting and lick it but Suletta had quickly snatched the cake away, making her audibly groan.

"Patience." Suletta eased as she put it on the coffee table. She then pulled out a knife, a fork and a plate from the basket. "You'll get to eat a delicious slice of this pastry wonder…" she trailed before pulling a bottle of massage oil. "...as I will be giving you a foot massage!"

"I love you."

Suletta giggled and leaned down to peck Miorine's nose. "Say that after you've tasted the cake."

She cut her a slice and gave it to the eager woman. Then she knelt before her and put her feet on her lap, starting to absent-mindedly massage her.

Suletta held her breath as she watched with rapt attention Miorine take the first bite. She gulped when she saw her put it in her mouth and sighed in great relief when she moaned in pleasure. "D-do you like it?"

The white haired nodded, eyes closed, still savoring that sweet delicacy. "I love it and I love you for making it for me. Thank you."

"Oh that's noth-! Wait! That's not! How did you-?!" Suletta spluttered nervously but got interrupted by her wife's melodious laughter.

"Oh, darling…" Miorine began before putting her plate aside and leaning over. She reached down and dusted some of the remaining flour on Suletta's nose. "You, my love, are really bad at hiding things from me."

"Miooo~" Suletta whined as her shoulders slumped. "I thought you would divorce me if I messed it up!"

"And why would I do that?!"

"I don't know!"

Miorine giggled and shook her head. She cradled her precious groom's face. "You're so silly… but next time you should ask me for help instead of Lilique. Although I greatly appreciated it."

Suletta blinked and tilted her head."But you suck at-"

"Don't finish that sentence."

"Yes, ma'am."

Miorine hummed then smiled. "Good. Now, get up here and kiss me. I can't get any lower because of this bloated thing." She said as she pointed to her stomach.

Suletta grinned, pecked her belly then rose up to capture Miorine's lips with her own in the sweetest of kisses. "Hmm, you were right. It really does taste good."

Miorine smiled and lazily wrapped her arms around the woman's shoulder. "You outdid yourself…I love you."

"I love you too."
