"Thank you and have a good day!" Steve chirped in his Customer Service voice, giving the mid forties woman a dazzling smile before dropping it as she walked out the door. He let out a soft groan and leaned over the counter by the register, covering his face. "I don't want to know how many that was..." He said into his palms, trying to ignore the quite not muffled giggles coming from Robin. He really didn't want to know or think about the number of over 40 women who've hit on him today. His arm is still aching from a particularly handsy woman groping his bicep a few hours ago. "Why me?"
"It's the pretty boy next door face." Robin cooed at him, patting his back in half mocking reassurance, half actual reassurance because honestly those women were gross. He was young enough to be their son. He rolled his head to glare at her and jerked his hip to the side to knock hers. "Oh, shut up, I hate you." He grumbled, pushing himself up and brushing off his vest. "Next time someone's mother comes up, you do it. I'll be busy, even if I'm filing my nails I'm busy."
"Alright, drama king." His best friend said, rolling her eyes as she dropped returns into their respective departments boxes, humming at how full a couple were. "If you do the next couple of returns runs and let me avoid you know who in plumbing." Vickie, girl who strung her along all the while having a boyfriend.
"Deal, my fellow heathen." Steve said, holding his hand out for their secret handshake that Robin reluctantly did. He glanced at clock on the computer and pouted, "ugh, still have 4 hours before I can leave...feels like it's been so much longer! I hate these 9 hour shifts." He whined, leaning over the customer service desk and propping his head in his hand as he looked out at the beautiful autumn day through the entrance doors. "You're just upset Eddie is off and you're not, so you can't attach yourself to him like a koala." Robin teased, poking his side with a grin. "Eddie and Stevie sitting in a tree! K-i-s-s-i-"
Thank God, saved by the bell, uh, automatic door.
"Good afternoon, welcome to Duffer's Hardware! Let me know if you need help!" Steve chirped, standing up and facing the door fully, charming smile on his face. It melts into a real, softer smile as soon as he sees who exactly was walking in the door.
Dressed in his usual ripped jeans, band tee, and boots combo with the addition of a beanie to keep his hair tame in autumn breeze outside, Eddie met his boyfriend's smile with his usual half feral grin. "Well ain't you adorable, all polite and the perfect customer service rep." He cooed, leaning against the service counter and looking down at the younger man. He let gentle ring covered fingers run through the surprisingly soft hair of his boyfriend, tugging on the strand that always fell in Steve's eyes no matter what he did.
"Eddie! Hey!" Steve said, . "What're you doing here?" He asked, looking around for any on the management team before leaning in for a brief kiss. The older boy hummed happily the kiss. "Hey, sunshine, thought I'd surprise you with some lunch." Eddie said, holding up the lunch bag Steve didn't notice until then (too distracted by his boyfriend's gorgeous face) and wiggling it. "I know you always forget to pack one for you long shifts soooo...I made you food and brought!" He handed Steve the bag, a Batman lunchbox because Steve's boyfriend is such a dork, and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
Steve perked up more and immediately opened the bag to see, bouncing ever so slightly in place because his boyfriend made him, just little ol' Steve, lunch because he forgot to make it himself. "You didn't have to Eds, I could have bought a snack off the shelf or vending machine." He said, melting as he opens the reused butter containers to find a serving of porkchops in (mushroom) gravy in one and fried potatoes in another. "Oh my God, you gave me some of Wayne's porkchops!" He gasped, looking up at Eddie and smiling a blinding smile. "You do love me." He teased, remembering how Dustin nearly lost a hand trying to steal a bite the last time Wayne sent left over porkchops with Eddie to a Hellfire meeting that would run into supper. Dustin is still disgruntled over Eddie actually feeding a bite of it to Steve that night, grumbling about how he wished they were still acting like divorce parents.
"Angel, like hell am I gonna let you eat empty calories during these long shifts. You know I can't stand the idea of someone I love going hungry. " Eddie huffed, a slight blush to his cheeks. That was something he got from his uncle/adoptive father, wanting to keep their love ones fed and happy, but only with hearty homemade food. (Wayne especially wanted to keep his boy fed, the image of Eddie at almost 13 but so thin and small, the weight of a 10 year old, from fending for himself while his mama forgot about food for herself and Eddie during a manic episode.) "Plus, those aren't really Papa's 'chops. Finally got the recipe out of him and did my first attempt today since I had it off." He admitted, toying with his hair and tugging it to cover his embarrassed smile. "Lemme know how they are, okay? They don't taste right to me but that could just be me being biased 'cuz nothing is as good as his." He huffed. "Oh! There's a piece of pound cake there too. Memaw's recipe, of course. It's lemon like you love."
"God I love you." Steve blurted out, digging more to find the cake, missing Eddie blushing but lovesick face and Robin's amused looks. "This is amazing and I'm sure it's going to taste almost as good as Wayne's." He said, grabbing collar of Eddie's leather jacket and pulling him into a kiss that managed to be both sweet and a bit dirty, especially with the whine Steve made when Eddie did a thing with his tongue. "Best boyfriend." He said against pierced lips, tugging at one snake bite to make his boyfriend let out a choked moan. "Dunno 'bout that, pretty boy. Think you've got me beat." He murmured, nuzzling their noses together and giving him a soft smile. Steve giggled, pressing one more kiss to the corner of his mouth.
"Okay, okay, okay, now as much as I love watching you two be mushy as Hell...we do have to get back to work, dingus." Robin said, clearing her throat and gesturing around at their surroundings, the customer service desk of a hardware store. Her words made the two laugh and reluctantly pull apart, Eddie pressing one more kiss to Steve's forehead.
"I've gotta go anyway, sweetheart, promised Papa I'll help weather proof the pipes for the cold snap comin' soon." Eddie sighed, a soft smile saved only for Steve and their hellions on his face. He cupped the back of Steve head and just toying the hair there, staring at him like he was his world. "Text me whatcha think of the food, okay? Or just text me period, been missing you and your bitching about cougars and dumb frat boys." He teased, backing away towards the door before he plastered himself to the younger man and stayed for the rest of his shift. (God, he loved his golden boy, he's gonna marry him one day.)
"Yea, yea, I will." Steve promised, letting out a sad sigh as he watched his boyfriend leave, pouting as he gets on his motorcycle parked right up front and drove away.
"You're so down bad, Harrington, it's disgusting. Or....should I say Future Munson?"
"Fuck off, Buckley, I'm going to lunch!"
"Enjoy your pound cake, Steve Munson!"
"Ugh!"
