Work Text:

“Papa, let’s watch Lion King!”

It has already become a kind of ritual for Hikaru and Raul to have a movie night on weekends. Call it their bonding activity, because Hikaru often is too busy to accompany his son in the daylights due to his duties as a firefighter. (Well. Sometimes at night too–but only when the emergency siren rang.) Usually it’s just the two of them, as Tatsuya spent his time plenty with Raul and wanted his husband and his son to do things other than exercising together, but tonight is different. Because tonight Tatsuya is joining their movie night and it is their first as the whole family.

Raul is already excited, bouncing in his seat on the sofa restlessly, while Iwamoto Hikaru tries his best to search for the movie his son requested. It took a while because Hikaru is kind of clumsy with technology. But before he could find the movie and load it, Fukazawa Tatsuya emerged from the kitchen bearing snacks like chips and cookies to accompany their movie night.

“We’re watching Lion King?” Tatsuya asked while putting the bowls on the table. Hikaru nodded alongside Raul who hadn’t stopped bouncing. He frowned. “Isn’t it old…? Why don’t we watch something newer?” Tatsuya paused while humming, trying to rack his brain for a suggestion. Children’s movies are kind of hard to come up with on the spot, even when he worked as a kindergarten teacher. He took a seat beside the bouncing boy, in the meantime. “Totoro, maybe? Or Minion–”

“NO! DON’T WANNA!”

It’s Raul who answered Tatsuya’s suggestion with such a furious expression on his little face and jumped out of his seat to launch himself to Tatsuya’s lap. He looked at the older man with a rage that only a kid who denied something had, lips pouting and cheeks puffing. His little fist clenched as Raul started fake-punching Tatsuya’s thigh. “I WANNA WATCH LION KING, FUKKA, SHUT UP--”

“Raul, you shouldn’t have called your dad like that--” Hikaru said, alarmed, trying to pry the six year old from his place on his other dad’s lap, but Tatsuya just laughed. “It’s okay, Hii-kun. See? This little dino’s punches have no effect on me.” He said while grabbing Raul and positioning him so the kid is sitting and no longer flopping and throwing punches on his lap.

Raul relented. He sat still on Tatsuya’s lap, back leaning on his other dad’s stomach. His pout deepened, though, which Hikaru remedied by dropping a peck on his chubby cheek.

“Stop pouting, baby. Aren’t we gonna watch your favorite movie?” he asked and, true to prediction, Raul stopped pouting. The kid’s eyes brightened as he nodded enthusiastically, and Hikaru couldn’t help himself to squeeze his baby’s cheeks as Tatsuya watched on with a soft smile on his face. “But before we start the movie, I believe apologies are in order. Rau-chan?” Hikaru said, stern enough to make Raul stop slouching.

It’s funny to watch how Raul’s expression morphed on his face; how his bright and excited face dropped instantly the moment he was chastised. Raul was serious when he looked up to see Tatsuya eyes to eyes, not really apologetic when he mumbled, “Sorry, Fukka-touchan,” though. But Fukazawa Tatsuya, being the whipped man he is, just smiled and took his turn squeezing his son’s cheeks.

“You’re lucky you’re cute, Raul. Otherwise Touchan won’t forgive you this easily.” Tatsuya said jokingly. Raul swatted his dad’s hands from his face with another pout and Tatsuya surrendered with a grin. “Alright, alright. Touchan forgives you, Rau-chan.” he said. Only then Raul stopped pouting and slowly started to smile.

Hikaru beamed at his son before nudging Tatsuya, sliding closer to the older man’s side, and told him, “You have to apologize to Raul too for your remark. Right, Rau-chan?”

Tatsuya groaned while Raul clapped. The grin on his face is endearing, and Tatsuya is nothing but a weak man for his son’s adorable antics. (And his tantrums too, sometimes. But only sometimes .) So Tatsuya did apologize--whilst taking his chance at squeezing Raul’s cheeks one more time. “Please forgive Touchan for his transgression earlier, Raul.” He asked as solemnly as he could. Raul, despite his huffy-puffy attitude earlier, forgave him easily. He also said things like, “We can watch another film after, if Touchan wants!” at the same time; because Raul, deep down, is a considerate and kind boy like that.

(Hikaru always thought that Tatsuya did a great job at raising their son and trying to make him feel included. Because it took time for Raul to come out of his shell after he was adopted. Raul who can openly throw a tantrum with them but quick to apologize and compromise is, without a doubt, a progress that Tatsuya worked so hard for. Their bonding activity is also something that Tatsuya planned and worked for and it, indeed, does wonders to strengthen their bond as a family.

At the very least, he and Raul now have other things to get excited about besides SASUKE.)

And so the little family of three started watching TV after the dispute was settled. Hikaru has already  found the movie his son wanted, so he's just waiting to hit play. Raul is making himself comfortable on Tatsuya’s lap while Hikaru is trying to lean on Tatsuya’s shoulder as discreetly as he could. He failed, though, as he could see the older man trying to conceal his grin and cackles. Hikaru pouted a little and started to distance himself from Tatsuya to avoid embarrassing himself further. But Tatsuya, Hikaru’s all-knowing and always sensitive half, is already pushing his neck so he could lean comfortably on his shoulder--with their sides touching and Tatsuya’s arm circles around his hips.

Hikaru wanted to protest, he really did, but then Tatsuya had to wink while making a zipping mouth gesture. Cheeky bastard , Hikaru thought fondly (while being annoyed at the same time) as he hit the play button. The opening theme of their film of the night then started playing in the background. So Hikaru sagged against Tatsuya’s side with a soft smile on his face--trying to enjoy this family bonding time as best as he could.

(Halfway through the movie, Tatsuya fell asleep. Hikaru sighed as his gaze fell on Raul, who was also trying hard to not fall into slumber like his dad on Tatsuya’s lap. Well , Hikaru thought amusedly, Raul will have to sleep in his and Tatsuya’s room tonight–because no way would he make two trips carrying an adult and a child to two different rooms after.

As the three of them lay on the same bed later, Hikaru and Tatsuya sandwiching Raul who cling to Tatsuya like a baby koala would, Hikaru thought that this could be categorized as another bonding activity for them.)
