Girls

Summary:

Buffy reflects on not fitting in...and on Cordelia.

Notes:

This is based on the song "Girls" by MARINA. I recommend listening to the song before/while reading. There will be a whole series of drabbles, each based off a different song from "The Family Jewels" by MARINA. Can be read in any order, but I recommend going in my order because I went in the order of the songs in the album.

"Girls" is one of MARINA's more controversial songs. It is intended to be a satirical message, asking why women and/or girls often don't treat each other well, gossip behind each other's backs, etc. Sort of a "why are you your own enemies" message. As someone who did experience a lot of drama and bullying in middle and high school this song really resonates with me. However some people DO NOT like it, so you've been warned.

Disclaimer: I don't own the rights to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or the song "Girls" By MARINA. If I did, I'd have better things to do than write fanfic, don't ya think?

Work Text:

"Is there any possibility/You'll quit gossiping about me/To hide your insecurities?/All you say is "blah, blah"/Girls, they never befriend me" -"Girls" by MARINA

Fitting in in high school was hard enough, and she was the chosen one. Cordelia and her cronies were always finding ways to make her life difficult.

Buffy wondered how Cordelia felt. Was she, too, lonely inside? Buffy couldn’t hope to answer that question.

Is it always this hard? Buffy wondered to herself. Not that it matters. I’m not going to be like that, not ever.

She wasn’t like the rest of them. She wondered, why can’t we just get along? Stop seeing each other as enemies? The real enemy is out there. The demons, vampires, and forces of darkness
