Chapter Text
The celebration of their matrimony lasts longer than Divina would want it to, Enid keeping up her wife with dances and drinks while Divina chats and dances with her brother and her other colleges. She just wants her wife with her, packed into a shuttlepod, and being on their way to their planned honeymoon on Risa. Kent is laughing at her exasperation, rolling his eyes at her while he leads her through an old Earth waltz.
“She is my wife.” she grumbles. “I want her all to myself for a couple of days.”
“And you will have her for the rest of your life.” He is spinning her out, her aquamarine dress swirling with the motion. “But if you want to, just go up to her and ask for a dance. I’m sure Ajax wouldn’t mind taking Enid off your wife.”
Divina looked at her beautiful love for a minute longer, laughing around with the klingon. They have been friends for so long, Divina was certain Enid will be a part of their life to the end of time, and she doesn’t mind that. She loves the woman almost as much as Yoko does, but at the moment she can only wish she had the calmness of a vulcan.
Yoko must feel her eyes on her, because she stops in the middle of her sentence to meet her gaze with the widest, most magnificent smile only she is capable of. She didn’t know trill were telepathic, but maybe it’s only their bond. Divina is the luckiest woman in the universe to have Yoko in her life, and her mind calms. She has that effect on people. She has that effect on her.
The music comes to an end, and instead of letting her go, Kent hugs her tightly to his chest. “I’m so proud of you, Fish brains.” He manages to jump away from her kick, already expecting her reaction. Kent’s arms unfurl, letting her go with a surprisingly soft smile on his face.
“You are lucky, I love you.” Divina says, lightly pushing on his shoulder.
A new song comes playing, more upbeat than the one before it, and Divina finds herself already moving to the beat before she realizes. She is surprised by a hand encircling her from her back, a familiar mouth pressing against her pulse point, her hair tickling Divina’s neck. Her wife. She will never get tired of calling her that.
“Hi!” Yoko breathes onto her skin. “Do you want to get out of here?”
Divina’s heart skips a beat. “I would love to.”
Without further explanation, Yoko’s hand wraps over hers and begins to walk out of the mess hall. Divina takes one look back at their colleges, and friends, her eye’s meeting with Kent, waving at them with that dumb smile of his. She spots Lieutenant Addams talking with Enid, her stoic expression never breaking for a second, even when she turns to the leaving couple and salutes them the vulcan way.
The captain cheers them on at the door, wishing the newly-weds a wonderful honeymoon, but Divina barely hears anything of it over the sound of the crew in the hall chanting for them to have one last kiss. They are more than happy to oblige.
They run to the hangar at light speed, despite their dresses and shoes not being suited for running, it doesn’t matter. Two weeks of uninterrupted bliss awaits them, and they will enjoy every last second of it. Together.
The shuttle departs without an issue, and off they fly to the longest vacation they had in ages. Divina sets the autopilot up, then she joins Yoko in the back of the shuttle, taking a glass of margarita from her.
“To the rest of our life.” she toasts, clicking her glass to Divina’s.
“I can’t believe we are finally on our way.” she answers after taking a sip of her drink. Yoko is a wizard when it comes to mixology. Or saving lives. Or anything she sets her mind to.
“You tell me. I love Enid with all my heart, but sometimes she really doesn’t know when to stop talking.” Yoko laughs. “If lieutenant Addams hadn't come over, I think we would be still talking.”
“I’ll have to get something on Risa for Wednesday then.” Divina circles her wife’s waist with her free arm. “But that can wait. How about we change into something more comfortable.”
A wickedly beautiful smile erupts on her wife’s face, one she knows oh so well, but will never get tired of. She is the luckiest woman alive that she has a lifetime to bask in the light of her wife. She cannot contain her happiness any further as she leans in to capture her lips.
They are halfway to Risa when the computer alerts them to an object nearby, advancing on them from behind. Divina disentangles herself from her wife and orders the computer to stop the music. They can get back to dancing after she checks out the source. She sits down in front of the main console, Yoko standing next to her as she activates the back facing camera.
The ship they see on their screen is an old orion interceptor. Divina’s body freezes as cold washes over her, her breathing becoming short. She mentally scolds herself for her reaction, she has met orions during her service. Orions who were not in the slave trade. Still her heart beats fast in her ribcage like a bomb waiting to explode.
“Should we hail them?” Yoko asks, her voice uncertain. “Show them we are friendly?”
Divina opens a channel to the intercepting ship. “This is Shuttlepod 4 of USS Nevermore. Please identify yourself.”
The ship doesn’t answer the call, so Divina repeats her message one more time. The answer to that is unambiguous. The orion ship fires a torpedo, hitting their warp engines and hurling them out of the warp field. Divina looks over the status monitor. They are lucky the engine did not explode in their face and blow half of the shuttle off.
The damages are extensive, the warp drive is offline, and it took the com system with it. Their life support system is still functioning, as does their weapons and shields, which came online at the impact.
The orion ship drops out of warp a couple thousand kilometers from them, their weapons ready and aimed at them. Divina looks over her wife still standing at her side, and an idea crosses her mind. The shuttle has one environmental suit, and it has it’s own com system. Yoko has to get out of there, the orion ship won’t notice it if the shuttle goes on with its impulse drive. Yoko can be saved.
Another torpedo hits the shuttle, the shield dropping to only sixty percent, and the impulse drive loses power. Divina sets the course to evade the ship, directing some energy from the life support system to the impulse.
“Get the EV suit, and jump out of here.” Divina shouts, her right hand still on the console, trying to keep the shuttle flying away from the pirate ship at half impulse, while he left weakly shoves her wife to the back.
Yoko doesn’t budge, she barely wavers when the shuttle is hit by another torpedo. She simply sits down next to her pressing on the navigation console. “Half a lightyear away there is the nebula. I’ll type in the coordinates.”
Another torpedo hits the impulse drive, the plasma starts to leak from the injector and their speed reduces even further. Divina looks at her wife, her heart shattering from the determination on her face. She is going to lose her, if she lets her stay.
“No. You will get out of here, Nurse Tanaka. That’s a direct order from your superior officer.” she wills her voice to be hard, but it doesn’t work.
“If you go to the back, you can bring the warp engine back online, and we can be there in five minutes.” Yoko ignored her, taking over the weapon system and aiming them to the enemy’s engines.
The orion ship’s shield holds, but it’s all just a show on Yoko’s part, trying to make it seem like they are putting off a fight instead of running away. Yoko redirects some power to the weapon system to give them an actual chance to hold them off for a minute longer.
“Yoko, please.” Divina pleads.
“You can put me in the brig once we get out of here.” there is a small smile on her face as she says it. “I might be into that.”
“I can’t lose you.”
“Good, then stop wasting time and get to work.” she turns her head to Divina just as she fires both of the torpedoes the shuttle has, both barely making a dent in the orion ship’s shielding. “I won’t leave you. We just swore an oath to not do that.”
Divina takes a second just looking at her magnificent wife, and rushes to the back of the shuttle. Even if they can hide out in that nebula for a while, if the Nevermore or another Starfleet vessel doesn’t show up within a couple of days, they are screwed.
