"That's....nice"
Keyleth smiled at Vax with an impressive level of awkwardness as she backed away, leaving him staring at the mossy, flower bound, bandage that she'd just put on his wrist while she fled to hide behind the trees at the shadowy edges of the camp.
Gods. Another friendship ruined because someone read too far into friendly intentions, and she didn't pick up on the hints or flirting.
Keyleth felt horrible. How did Scanlan handle being a heartbreaker on purpose when she couldn't even handle doing it on accident.
Maybe she'd ask one day.
Scanlan was great like that, he was a sort of older brother figure for her, in that he would occasionally let her know if someone was flirting or if she had accidentally led them on, and never mistook their own friendly closeness for anything more than it was.
Heck, he was the guy who let Keyleth know that Vex liked her back, and even gave her flirting tips and pick up lines- though she suspected a few of the tips may have been bad on purpose in order to get them both to be honest with each other about their feelings.
Briefly she wondered if he wouldn't mind coming on their next date to provide romantic, and distinctly non-sexual mood music.
She was drawn from her thoughts by a pair of deceptively slim arms wrapping around her middle. "Key dear, what's going on? Vax told me that he told you he loved you, and you panicked and ran off, are you alright?"
Keyleth had been tense until she heard Vex's voice, causing her to relax into the embrace. "Yeah, I'm fine, I just... I know I upset him, and I don't mean to do it but..."
"But you fear he won't be your friend anymore because you broke his heart?"
"Yeah...also, it's going to be kind of awkward when he finds out I'm with his twin sister."
"Oh now, don't worry about all of that, if anything I think you've done him a favor, he just doesn't realize it yet. But with the way he and Gilmore have been getting on lately, it's about time Vax manned up and gave him his heart. They've been stringing each other along for ages it seems."
Keyleth smiled as she turned to wrap her arms around Vex, "it's true, I feel bad for them, maybe if they sat down and talked, they could be happy together."
"That's what I love about you, Key, you have such a kind heart when it comes to those around you."
Vex kissed the top of her head, mindful of her rather pointy headdress.
"I love you too, my Lock." Keyleth cooed fondly.
"My beloved Key~"
