Elemental Invitations

Summary:

We all know why Lloyd, Kai, Jay, and Cole competed in the Tournament of Elements. But do we know why the Elemental Masters competed so fiercely? Not all their intentions are as selfish as you might think. The reason they appear as toughened fighters is because they have been dragged through fate's abuse and survived. So of course, they're willing to fight aggressively in order to gain their personal prizes and desires in Chen's psychopathic tournament.

This is just a collection of drabbles where each Elemental Master received their invitation to Chen’s Tournament and some brief insight on what I headcanon their lives to be like.

Chapter 1: Ash, Master of Smoke

Chapter Text

Ash P.O.V.

As I was driving my Mustang and rockin' out to my favorite song, I realized I was almost out of gas. I started looking for a gas station, but I didn't see anything for miles!

Ugh, why does my mom have to live so far away? I thought to myself in annoyance.

There are a lot of things I am willing to do, but admitting to my mom that I am out of gas and stuck in the middle of nowhere, after she told me to fill up my tank before I left, is not one of them.

I usually enjoy visiting my mom, but at the moment, I have some very important things that need to be sorted out. Some extremely stupid idiots are trying to get me thrown in jail for something I honestly didn't do. I have a sketchy record so this claim will end me if I'm declared guilty.

Sure, I used to be bad, rebellious, and violent; but all that is behind me. It's been a rough time growing up for me, and it all started when my dad was killed trying to save me when I was twelve. Depression hit, then drugs, then eventually I got caught up in a gang. Gosh, I was an idiot!

I am mute because of all the bad decisions I made. I also have an ugly scar across my neck as a great reminder to never go back to that old life. Honest to the First Spinjitzu Master, I'm a changed man now, and I promise to hold true to my family's history of honorable warriors. No more of that stupidity.

I finally found a gas station and after filling up my tank, I bought a snack for the road. Master Chen's Shrimp Chips, my favorite!

When I opened the bag of chips, I noticed there was a folded piece of paper inside. I was about to throw the piece of paper away and enjoy my chips, but something seemed to stop me and I suddenly wanted to know what was written on the paper.

Hello, Master of Smoke,

After I read the first line, I ended up dropping my chips in surprise. How did someone know I was the Master of Smoke?!

Master Chen has invited you to take part in his Tournament of Elements. Come to the western docks in New Ninjago City by midnight. Do not tell anyone and do not bring any weapons or there will be serious trouble for you. If you win the Tournament of Elements, the false charges against you will end.

My jaw dropped. To my knowledge, my mom was the only one who knew about the accusations filed against me. Was Master Chen the reason I was being accused of murder?! If he is, then we just might have an actual murder on our hands!

When the message suddenly disappeared into thin air, I ran and jumped into my car and drove like a maniac in the direction of New Ninjago City.

I'm glad I'm so in touch with my Element because it looks like I need to smoke the competition in order to get my name cleared.
