it's a good day to be gay

Summary:

“Oh my god, was I on a date?” Emma muttered, glancing at her hands that were shaking a bit. Mulan reached over and patted her on the shoulder a couple of times.
“I know we are rather bad at this, but damn Emma, at least check if you are on a date.”
.
Emma is deeply gone for Regina, that's much is obvious. But only when someone else points out how date-like some of their interactions have been, does everything make a bit more sense. Cue full gay panic, Emma Swan style.

Inspired by a Tumblr ask/post.

Work Text:

Walking towards the Sheriff’s station Emma Swan caught herself whistling a tune that had been stuck in her head for days now. She looked around wildly, hoping no one had noticed and upon confirming she was alone, breathed out a sigh of relief.

It would not do her any good to resemble her mothers seven best friends. While there was no denying that she was a part of the fairytale world now considering who her family was, she still did her absolute best to not embody any of the stereotypical characteristics of a fairy tale character. And whistling while you were on your way to work fit that bill.

What she couldn’t tamper down though was the happiness that had caused her to whistle. While Storybrooke was rather ridiculous at times with its very unique problems and colourful residents, it was her home. Her first real one.

The first few years of living in Storybrooke had been difficult, testing every single bit of the blonde’s sanity, it had all been worth it. Emma no longer struggled with wanting to run away when things got serious, when she built connections with people or when she felt like she was getting attached. She believed the home she had was a permanent one, that her job wasn’t going to take her wildly all over and that she was allowed, and deserved to feel happiness.

It hadn’t always been easy to deal with the ghosts of her past and break the cycle of pain, but with the support of her people, she had made it.

Against all odds.

Walking through the door of the Sheriff’s Office, Emma couldn’t help but smile. Life was pretty damn good now, and she couldn’t help but drink it all in.

The day of a normal small town Sheriff was oftentimes rather calm but in Storybrooke you never really knew what kind of day you were going to have. It could be as easy as one drunken dwarf or then it was as bad as an open portal into an unknown realm appearing in the middle of the town. Which is why as soon as Regina had been reinstated as the Mayor, she had adjusted the budget to allow Emma to hire one more deputy.

So now the Sheriff’s Station consisted of Emma, David and Mulan, because who better to help them handle the craziness Storybrooke could offer than a warrior?

Today was morphing into being a rather calm day, David and Mulan re-arranging the Station, doing some deep cleaning and Emma finishing their collective paperwork. Regina’s nagging over the years had worked and Emma put more effort into completing paperwork than she ever had in her life.

Regina got so pleased when she presented her with it in their weekly meetings and Emma always felt such a deep sense of pride. Becoming friends with Regina had been one of the best things that had happened since she moved to Storybrooke. It felt kind of wild when she thought back to how they started and how messy they had been.

But over the years they had realised they were more alike than they were different. In fact there were a lot of things they agreed on and they viewed the world in a similar way. If there was something they always had in common, it was Henry. Emma still regretted she had failed to see just how good of a mother Regina was to Henry and how much she had always loved him.

There was nothing the brunette wouldn’t do for Henry, no monster, no realm, no family tree branch would ever stop her for putting Henry first and making sure he was alright.

And that was only one of the many, numerous reasons Emma had a massive crush on her son's other mother.

Leaning her chin on her palm, her mind completely ignored the fact that she was supposed to finish her paperwork. When she first got stuck thinking about Regina, it was almost impossible for her to think of anything else.

Over the years they had become so much more than just co-parents. Regina was her best friend, her confidant and the person she trusted with her life. There wasn’t a thing that happened in Emma’s life that she didn’t share with the brunette. There was also very little Regina didn’t know about her, Emma having shared most of her past with her son's mother.

Emma couldn’t quite believe it had taken her so long to realise she had feelings for Regina. She knew she was a bit clueless when it came to her feelings, especially to the romantic ones but she had thought she was better than this.

Looking back, Emma realised she had fallen hard and fast. Sure they had a bit of a bumpy start but even then she couldn’t really get enough of Regina, more often than not seeking her out to push her buttons. As they worked past the turmoil of the first curse breaking, their relationship evolved and without noticing, Emma started to consider Regina part of her inner circle that until then had only included Henry.

A smile was pulling at her lips and seeing no reason to fight it, Emma let it blossom across her face. There were so many things about Regina she absolutely adored and if someone was to ask her to name her favourite thing, she didn’t even know where to start. Emma had had her fair share of situationships, but no one could even be mentioned in the same sentence as Regina. It was actually rather wild to be so attracted to someone.

The pure, fiery fierceness that rolled off Regina in waves at any given moment made Emma’s knees weak. The way her genuine smiles made her brown eyes sparkle could turn Emma’s sour mood into absolute bliss within milliseconds. The deep tone of her voice and the small cackle that always accompanied her rich laughter shook every organ inside Emma’s body.

Yeah, how she hadn’t realised she was gone for Regina made no sense.

But she was.

Gone, that is.

And she had no idea what to really do about it.

They spend most of their time together now, mostly due to the shared custody of Henry. He was in his late teens now, talking about moving into the Land Without Magic to study and taking real interest in his future. It wasn’t long until he would be gone and Emma and Regina had agreed that it would be most beneficial for them all to spend as much time together as possible.

So they ate dinner together every night, mostly at Mifflin but on occasion in Emma’s apartment on Main Street. It was a cosy two bedroom apartment and with a lot of help, Emma had managed to make it into a home, but she was hardly ever there. Most days she worked, the evenings she spent with Henry and Regina, or with her parents. Wherever she spent her evening was usually where she ended up crashing as well.

Warmth started to spread on Emma’s cheeks as she thought back to the feeling of the soft sheets in Regina’s guest room, and the smell of the shampoo she let Emma borrow whenever she stayed over. She couldn’t help but sigh as she could almost smell the breakfast that always awaited her whenever she woke up.

She was so deep in thought, that she completely failed to notice her father walking into the glass office, stopping quite literally in her line of sight. It was almost as if Regina was consuming her entire brain and it was the kind of fog that sucked you in, and you had very little chances at making it out.

“Emma?”

Finally, her fathers deep voice managed to interrupt her thoughts, and Emma looked up to meet the eyes of her father. His eyes were the same shade of green like hers and Henry’s, and he looked just as young as she did, which kept being weird if Emma thought about it too hard. But mostly he was just dad, someone who Emma knew to always be in her corner.

“Yeah, Dad?” Emma asked, blinking a few times.

“I asked would you like to come to lunch with us? We are almost done with cleaning the Station but a break would do us all good.” He motioned to Emma’s desk that was littered with papers and Emma looked at them too, having not been aware that she had managed to spread so much of it everywhere.

A chuckle escaped her and she smiled up to her dad. “Yeah, I think you are right.”

Getting up from behind her desk, she had to lift numerous piles out of the way to make sure they weren’t going to fall and spread everywhere while they were gone. Emma made easy conversation with her father, asking about the clean up and wanting to see how they had decided to alter the layout.

As they met Mulan by the door, Emma’s ears suddenly perked up.

There was a sound echoing in the hallway that led to the staircase. It was steady and sharp, getting louder and louder as seconds went by. With each passing second, Emma’s heart was beating faster and faster, pumping blood wildly all over her body. It almost made her feel intoxicated, the anticipation nearly overwhelming.

And as soon as the source of the sound rounded the corner, everything in Emma softened and she was sure that if she were a flower, she would be blossoming.

The sound came from a pair of black high heels, attached to an imposing woman who could stop an entire realm with just an arched eyebrow. A dark pencil skirt was stretched over sinful thighs with every step and Emma had to tear her eyes away. But as always, the only way from the thighs was upwards and it just seemed to get better and better.

Clad in a white button up blouse and a jacket that matched the pencil skirt, Regina Mills was a vision. It might have been the most general business get up but she made it look otherworldly, like she was walking down the runways of the world. Everything complimented her stance and beauty so well that Emma was rendered completely silent, as per usual.

However, there was nothing as beautiful as her deep, dark brown eyes. It was Emma’s favourite physical quality about Regina. The way you could get lost if you kept eye contact too long, but at the same time you’d feel lost either way after she turned away. The brown eyes were like a starry sky that held all of Regina’s emotions and secrets. It made Emma feel like an explorer of the faraway galaxies.

Emma had known she was interested in the fairer sex ever since she was young but Regina was the only woman who had ever made her want to wrap herself in a rainbow flag and scream it from the rooftops. She wouldn’t but she really wanted to. Regina was that woman.

For the second time that day, Emma was too deep in thought to realise someone was addressing her. Only when a warm palm placed itself against her cheek, did her eyes find focus. So she found herself staring deeply into the brown eyes she had just been thinking about.

And hey, she was being touched by the woman she had a huge crush on, so the smile spreading on her lips could be expected.

“Emma.”

How Regina managed to say her name so gently was something Emma couldn’t really fully grasp but it always made her heart flutter. It was like a caress so soft that it made Emma’s hard exterior melt. Only Regina had ever been able to cause such a reaction in the blonde, and it continued to exhilarate Emma.

“Yo, Earth to Emma!”

Unfortunately there was someone to ruin the moment, and it was Mulan. The young warrior had clocked Emma’s feelings towards Regina all the way back in the Enchanted Forest and once she had made it to Storybrooke she had simply stated her observations to Emma, and the only thing Emma had been able to do was to listen.

For someone just as hopeless in romantic gestures, Mulan was very astute in picking up others feelings and ever since then she had made it her mission on being as unhelpfully helpful as possible.

The bubble burst and Emma shot a dirty look towards Mulan whose lips were slowly pulling into a grin. Emma was happy Mulan was feeling more comfortable in Storybrooke, but why it had to be at her expense, she didn’t know.

“Emma.” Regina repeated and Emma snapped her eyes towards the woman standing in front of her once more. Suddenly her dad and Mulan disappeared from her thoughts and her laser focus was on Regina, and only her.

“Yes?” Emma hoped her tone wouldn’t waver but she wasn’t so lucky.  She cleared her throat and that made the blush start to bloom on her cheeks. Goddammit.

“I brought you lunch.” Regina said and only then did Emma notice the basket the older woman was holding, and as soon as the surroundings started to register to Emma, she also noticed the divine scent floating around the hallway. As if Regina wasn’t already her dream woman, but she cooked like gods did and that was an added bonus to Emma.

“I-” Emma wanted to say something but she didn’t have the chance before her father interrupted. Upon turning to look at him, he too was sporting a grin far too wide to Emma’s liking. That asshole.

“It looks like you won’t be joining us for lunch after all. So we are going to head out. You ladies enjoy your lunch.” And with those parting words both him and Mulan headed fast down the hallway and out of sight.

Emma wanted to be annoyed at them, she really did but she couldn’t really muster it. She was happy she wasn’t completely alone in her feelings in case she ever felt like she wanted to talk to someone about them. And it had once again granted her a moment alone with Regina.

With a smile, she could only nod and that seemed to be enough for Regina. The brunette smiled back at her and was about to move past her towards the offices, before she stopped, and with a simple move that needed no explanation, she shot out her arm and wiggled her fingers.

And who was Emma to deny her queen?

The blonde hurried to lace their fingers together and was awarded with another blinding smile. Regina’s hand was warm on her own, her skin impossibly soft and with every step Emma got a swift of the perfume Regina favoured.

Regina didn’t even spare a glance at the office area as she pulled Emma with her to the blonde's office. She let go of Emma’s hand only to press it on her shoulder so she could seat the blonde in her own chair.

Being physically directed by Regina was really doing things to Emma and as the brunette turned to display the food she had prepared, Emma squeezed her thighs together. It was absolutely not the first time she had gotten painfully turned on by Regina Mills and she knew it was definitely not going to be the last. She hoped the day would pick up some speed after lunch because otherwise she would need to excuse herself and drop by her apartment to get some relief.

“I wasn’t sure what you’d be in the mood for exactly.” Regina spoke, maybe more to herself than Emma but the blonde was listening with rapt attention. “But I know you are particular about sandwiches for lunch, so I made a variety. I also made you some fries but I decided to add some things to it to make them keep you going longer.”

As she stepped back, Emma got a view of the set up. Somehow the brunette had managed to set everything in the middle of the paperwork mountains, nearly organised and expertly displayed.

She hadn’t lied when she said she had made a variety and Emma could feel her mouth water as she eyed the food in front of her. Tearing her eyes away long enough, she met the piercing brown eyes. Not wanting to leave Regina guessing, she voiced her gratitude.

“Everything looks wonderful and I have no doubt it will all taste divine, but what is making it even better is the fact that you made all this effort to feed me. I appreciate you.”

The brown of Regina’s eyes were sparkling and there was a pleased smile spread on her lips. It made Emma feel all the more happier and she was sure that if she had the ability, she’d be shining right now.

“I wanted to do something nice for you. You know because…” Regina let her words trail off and Emma turned to look at her once more. Regina showed care with cooking, always had. Emma knew she was her best friend, so it made sense.

“I know.” Emma smiled and reached to take Regina’s hand. The brunette held on tightly and a comfortable silence filled the office. That was until Emma’s stomach reminded its owner what time it was.

The throaty chuckle Regina let out made Emma’s knees go weak. Thankfully she was safely seated but her core clenched once more and she had to bite back a moan that was about to break out.

“I’ll leave you to it.” Regina smirked and as she took a step towards the doorway, Emma panicked. She didn’t want to eat alone, hell, there was too much food, even for her. But most of all, she had looked forward to spending time together.

“Stay.” Words hurried out of her mouth, before Emma had a chance to think of a more elegant way to express herself. It seemed to have done the trick though as Regina stopped and turned to look at Emma.

There was hesitancy dancing in brown eyes, and Emma tugged her back as their fingers were still laced together. They were now much closer than they were originally and Emma could feel her skin warm by the close proximity. God, how she wanted to burn into ashes.

“My stomach might seem bottomless, but what you brought me could feed a whole army.” Emma smiled warmly up at the brunette, hoping to settle her worries. “Besides,” Emma stuttered. “I was looking forward to spending time with you.”

And just like that the hesitancy was gone and it was replaced with a sly, smug smile.

“You think so now, but once you taste what I made you, you are going to want to finish, even if it makes you ill.”

Fucking fuck. Even smug confidence was attractive when it was Regina. Emma rolled her eyes, delighted by the banter but she was not about to admit that.

“Well, you wouldn’t want me to get sick, would you?” Emma pouted and another deep laugh echoed in the small office. “ Please, stay.”

It wasn’t begging directly but Emma wasn’t someone who said ‘please’ all that often. It made Regina fall silent once more and look her over. Regina was excellent at reading people and Emma felt like an open book. She hoped not everything was on display but as Regina hummed gently a moment after, Emma figured that whatever she had been looking for, the brunette had found.

“I will stay with you for lunch, if you promise to have all this paperwork on my desk in Town Hall tomorrow morning.” Regina motioned towards the piles surrounding their lunch.

“It’s a deal.” Emma beamed.

There was only one chair in Emma’s office and it was the one she was sitting on and it seemed that Regina realised the exact same thing at the same moment. But no one could ever say the queen wasn’t resourceful.

She waved her hand gently across the air and a pile of paperwork on Emma’s desk moved against the wall, leaving a clear spot on the otherwise messy desk. Without a warning and with an unreal amount of grace, she hopped to sit on the now empty spot.

Emma’s brain could only process so much as her eyes followed Regina’s every move with unwavering attention. The way she hummed as she was leaning over their lunch, trying to decide which sandwich she wanted caused Emma goosebumps all over her body.

Even watching her open the neatly wrapped sandwich was nearly too much but the blonde actually almost fell from her chair when Regina moaned around the bite she had taken of her lunch. Holy fu-

“Would you like to try some?” And the sandwich was offered in Emma’s direction. The Sheriff could register the question, but her brain was still fogged and getting an intelligent response out was simply not happening. Only thing she could do was nod a few times, eyes fluttering.

And just like that her senses were assaulted with the scent of the sandwich mixed with whatever hand lotion Regina used as the food was suddenly right in front of her mouth. As Emma’s tastebuds registered the multitude of flavours and textures, she was sure she was going to black out.

How was Regina so wonderful and good at everything? And how was she, Emma Swan, somehow lucky enough to get to enjoy her company and her cooking? Magic, yes, that’s what this was. Must be.

“You know, it is incredibly satisfying to cook for someone who nearly orgasms when they taste your food.”

Yeah, Emma had been sure Regina was at peak perfection but she had never heard the older woman say that word. In consequence the blonde knew that it was now forever stuck in her brain, and she was glad.

“Oh my god, Regina-”

Another spout of rich laughter echoed in the Sheriff’s office.

Later that day Emma was furiously working on her piles of paperwork, trying her hardest not to think about the lunch she had had. But the harder she tried, the more she felt like she was failing.

The food had been delicious and the company even more so. Regina had clearly seen the effect her words had on Emma and she had kept on teasing the blonde. While Emma had tried to get her to stop, secretly she had enjoyed it immensely. The way they were able to banter and get a rise out of each other was one of Emma’s favourite things about their dynamic.

Before Regina left to return to work she had asked if Emma wanted to join her and Henry for dinner that night. Emma never said no and she promised to be there at 6 PM on the dot because that was when Mifflin Street started to prepare for dinner.

It was one thing to enjoy Regina’s cooking but it was another thing to get to see her prepare it as well. Emma loved food but she had never really considered cooking as sensual or sexy in any way, but Regina made it so. Not to mention she put so much emotion and heart into her creations each time and it left Emma breathless.

Once as Regina had been preparing dinner, Emma had made a comment about wanting to learn how to cook better. She knew the bare basics but she hadn’t had anyone to teach her, nor had she really cared as long as she got fed. So ever since then, Regina had included her in one way or another in food preparation, and Emma could see the difference in her skills.

As Regina’s invitation stated, she would arrive at the mansion in plenty of time to sponge up more knowledge and in turn also spend more time with her son and Regina. Win-win in all accounts.

Against all odds, Emma managed to finish all her paperwork in time for her workday to end. Her dad and Mulan had not held back the comments on her changed lunch plans and Emma had taken it like a champ. They all knew where her feelings were and while Emma could find the humour in it, sometimes it left her feeling down.

Regina was amazing and only a fool would not be head over heels for her. They were best friends and partners in raising a son, and while they occasionally flirted, Emma just wasn’t sure. The fear of rejection and losing the most important adult person in her life was what made her hold back, even when all she wanted was to drown in Regina.

But if there was one thing Emma Swan was good at, it was pushing her feelings down, which is what she did and she managed to finish her workday without more fuss. She only stopped at her apartment to change into a fresh set of clothes, before she headed over to Mifflin Street.

Driving her bug down the now incredibly familiar road still caused deja vu every once in a while. It felt like it was a lifetime ago since Henry came and found her in Boston, only to bring her back to his quaint little storybook town. The drive to his house that night had been charged with the unknown, but it had been the beginning for the rest of Emma’s life.

Feeling her eyes burn a bit, Emma cleared her throat and focused on the road even more. She was so grateful for the turn her life had taken, fate or no fate. As soon as she made it to Mifflin she was going to make a point in hugging Henry a bit extra, because without him none of them would be here now and their lives would look quite different, and that was unthinkable.

Parking her yellow bug next to Regina’s sleek black Mercedes was just as delightful as it always was. The cars reminded Emma of them; the physical differences might have been there, but they were similar in the ways that counted. And that made them work so well together, as town officials, as parents, as friends.

And maybe more, one day.

Maybe.

As Emma started the short walk towards the porch, the door opened before she even made it there. The light shining behind Regina was giving her a small halo around the dark hair, her dress of the more comfortable fabric she favoured at home and her smile completely visible even with the backlight.

Like a moth to a flame Emma walked faster, unable to wait to be by Regina’s side once more. Regina was like a drug and once she had gotten a taste, Emma couldn’t help but want more. And that was just her company and the smiles she shot Emma’s way. Even thinking of what it would be like to experience anything more made Emma’s brain stop working.

“Emma.”

And there Regina went again, saying her name like it was the softest thing on this planet. Thankfully Emma was almost there and she took two steps at a time to finally stop in front of the brunette. The smile was even more blinding up close and the blonde could feel her body starting to warm up.

“Right on time.” Regina smiled and reached for Emma’s hand. “Follow me.”

Emma would have followed Regina anywhere, even if their fingers weren’t laced together. She was pulled into the house and she just about managed to close the door behind her.

The following day Emma woke up to the blaring of her alarm. Everything was foggy and she was disoriented to the point of panic. In her haze it was hard for her to pinpoint where she was and that was bringing up all sorts of terrible memories from the past.

As she managed to turn off her alarm and her eyes were able to focus properly, she started to calm down. Her surroundings were making more sense and what eventually completely calmed her body down was the photograph on her bedside table.

It was taken two years ago, during their annual holiday to the Land Without Magic. None of them had ever left the States, so they had researched Europe and decided what a better city to visit than Paris.

The photo Emma had decided to frame was a photo of her little family on a busy tourist street with the Eiffel Tower in the background. Henry was smiling from ear to ear, his hand being held tightly in Regina’s left. The brunette in question was sandwiched between the two Swan’s, she too smiling happily with every bit of serenity swimming in those chocolate pools. Emma herself had her arm draped over Regina’s shoulder and she was doing the peace sign with the other.

There were many reasons Emma had chosen this particular photo to decorate her bedside table. Not only had that been the best trip she had ever been on, but Regina’s normally rigid posture had been nowhere to be seen as soon as they left Storybrooke. Henry had been buzzing during the months leading up to the trip and he was nearly unstoppable when they had actually made it. Both he and Regina had inhaled the culture deeply and fallen in love with life outside of their little town.

But what really showed in the photograph for Emma was their family and how happy she herself looked as a part of it. She had known for years she was a part of the family unit Regina and Henry had, but this photo in particular made them look so much like a family that was meant to be.

Being deep in thought really made the time run because now the snooze alarm nearly made Emma fall from her bed as it echoed through her bedroom. Not interested in gaining any more extra heartbeats, Emma got up and set out to start her day.

Day shifts at the Station were her favourites as they left evenings free, but nothing much happened in Storybrooke during business hours. So that left the Sheriff’s Station to try and find something to keep them occupied.

Since the paperwork had gotten done yesterday and the deep clean had been completed, there wasn’t much left. This however gave Emma’s mind way too much time to overthink and worry about last night.

Everything had been going great, it had been so lovely. So why was she so freaked out? It wasn’t like Regina had never touched her before. Somehow it had felt different and Emma was scared of how much she loved it.

“Okay, what’s bothering you?”

Looking up, Emma met the eyes of her deputy who was leaning against the doorframe of her office. David had a day off so it was only the two of them for the day. Mulan truly had the uncanny ability to know there was something in the air and she could sniff out emotions like no other. Except her own or when it had to do with herself. The very typical sapphic behaviour which they often sarcastically high fived to.

“Who says there is something bothering me?” Emma muttered, knowing she had been found out but it wasn’t in her nature to just admit to things she found difficult to deal with.

Mulan rolled her eyes and left the office. It was her tactic and Emma cursed under her breath because it was goddamn effective. Getting up, Emma followed her into the general area where Mulan had already seated herself at her desk.

Almost throwing herself to the visitors chair at the side of the desk, Emma pushed her hands as deeply into her pockets as she could with her limited seating position. Nobody said anything for a while, Emma content in brooding with her feelings and Mulan happy to wait her out. Mulan being a warrior had its perks, but that had moulded her to be goddamn stubborn and patient to boot.

Emma knew she had lost the second Mulan asked her question so with a loud groan, she rubbed her face a few times, having abandoned her attempt at pushing her hands into her pockets.

“You know I like Regina, right?”

“That is maybe the stupidest question you have ever asked.”

The answer was delivered within seconds and with such calm disbelief that Emma didn’t even dare to look at Mulan's way. Instead she let out a strangled awkward laugh and rubbed the back of her neck.

“Right, right. So yesterday something happened. I think…” Emma wasn’t really sure how to explain what she was feeling but she had to talk to someone.

“You think?” Mulan leaned forward a bit, clearly curious but trying not to be.

“There was this moment in the kitchen when she just touched my hips and it felt like… More?” Emma was feeling breathless even thinking about last night, her hips tingling where Regina’s warm hands had touched her so gently. “And then at dinner she reached for my hand and for a few minutes we held hands while we ate. We have touched before but there was something in the air, something felt heavier.”

Mulan was listening intently and only when she was sure Emma was done talking for now, did she open her mouth. Her calmness was a fine quality and Emma found herself more eager to share.

“What else happened during your evening? Was it just a normal family dinner?”

“I arrived early at her request so she could teach me to cook.” Emma blushed because she hadn’t really told anyone else about that. “She is teaching me to cook, you know because- Nevermind. She did and we talked and she poured us some cider. And she was soft and sweet and perfect and I felt really lucky so be anywhere near her-”

“You were getting sidetracked there, boss.” Mulan laughed and Emma blushed even more.

“Shut up.” Emma muttered before she took a deep breath to focus. “She always plays music in the kitchen and a song she liked came on. And while I was stirring the food, she kind of held onto my hips and swayed us. God, Mulan, she was so close to my back and I-”

Mulan snapped her fingers twice and Emma could feel her ears starting to burn. She was happy she was opening up to Mulan as the warrior knew exactly what she was talking about. And yes, maybe she needed to be snapped out of her Regina-haze.

“Anyway… The song changed before she could get closer but the song that followed was an absolute hit, so we ended up singing along to it and I almost burned dinner.” Emma sighed. “And when we were eating, she reached for my hand and asked if I like the food, which I did of course as she made most of it!” Emma concluded.

Mulan was quiet for a while, just eyeing Emma suspiciously. The blonde Sheriff started to feel anxious as while Mulan wasn’t a woman of many words, she usually still had something to say.

“Are you sure you guys weren’t on a date?”

Emma almost choked on her own saliva and started coughing violently. Mulan had to run to get some water and Emma downed it as fast but as gently as possible. Breathing heavily, she tried to focus on Mulan who was actually looking concerned.

“A date? We weren’t on a date! What makes you say that?!”

It sounded insane. If they were on a date, Emma would know about it. Right? Right?!

“Well, it sounded like that to me when you told me about it. Regina asked you to have dinner together, she took extra care in preparation to teach you, she offered you drinks and she initiated physical contact more than twice.” Mulan shrugged. “Not to mention she was comfortable doing all that with Henry in the house and he joined you guys for dinner where she took your hand. Seems very date-like to me.”

With every word Mulan spoke Emma’s brain was screaming more and more. It all had happened like Mulan was re-telling her but it hadn’t even crossed Emma’s mind before having someone spell it out for her. It did sound like a date, hell, it sounded like a fantastic one too. Maybe that was why it all felt like more, like there was more charge in the air?

Oh fuck.

Had she ruined it by excusing herself early and staying in her own apartment which was out of character for her in every way? Just because she freaked out a bit at the change in atmosphere.

“Oh my god, was I on a date?” Emma muttered, glancing at her hands that were shaking a bit. Mulan reached over and patted her on the shoulder a couple of times.

“I know we are rather bad at this, but damn Emma, at least check if you are on a date.”

Her wounded look made Mulan snort which in turn made Emma smile a bit. She was very grateful for the friendship she had developed with Mulan over the years and it meant the world to her not to have to go through figuring this out alone.

“What should I do?” Emma wondered, feeling like there was even more on the line than before. She had excused herself rather quickly last night and now she was anxious to talk to Regina as soon as possible to make sure they were alright.

“Check in, make sure everything is alright, because right now the worry is coming off from you in waves.” Mulan waved her hand up and down Emma’s being. “And I know you are worried it’s not what you think, so take it slowly, feel the waters. See how it’s going. Keep your heart safe.”

Emma could feel tears burn her eyes as she nodded a few times. It was so nice to have someone know you well enough to give advice that would protect her.

“I will.”

“Go ask her to lunch, you still have time if you do it right now.” Mulan kicked Emma’s shin with her boot a bit which made the blonde wince and get up, shoot the warrior a grateful smile, before going back to her office to retrieve her phone.

Emma was sure if she gave it any more thought, she was going to overthink the message, so she was to the point and just asked her question.

Regina always answered fast, but what Emma wasn’t expecting was for her phone to ring in her hands. She almost dropped it in shock but managed to hold onto it if barely.

“Answer her!” Mulan yelled from her desk, making a phone gesture with her hand.

Nodding, and gathering courage, Emma swiped across her screen and brought the phone to her ear.

“Hello?”

“Emma.” Emma could feel her toes curl in her boots at the way Regina said her name. “I’d love to have lunch with you, but we are in the middle of an extremely busy day.” She sounded apologetic and soft, like there was nothing wrong and that calmed Emma down considerably. Maybe everything was fine.

“That’s alright. We can rain check it.” Emma smiled, hoping her tone conveyed her feelings.

“Maybe you’d want to join me for dinner again tonight? Your parents invited Henry over for the night for a movie marathon, so I’d love some company.”

Maybe Emma was just hyper aware of every bit of change in Regina, but the way her voice dropped and she spoke a bit slower made Emma’s mouth run dry. This was an invitation much different than the ones she had gotten before and excitement was bubbling to the surface.

“I’ll be there.” Emma knew she sounded a bit breathless but she hoped Regina couldn’t quite hear it over the phone.

Regina hummed into the phone, clearly pleased. “Then I will see you at 6 PM. On the dot.”

“I wouldn’t even dream of being late.” Emma vowed, saluting to the empty room.

“Well, you never dream of being late, darling, but somehow that just keeps happening.” Regina’s tone was every bit teasing.

Gasping in mock outrage, Emma pressed her hand to her chest even when Regina couldn’t see her. Regina’s sass was one of the things that had drawn Emma to her since the beginning, and it never failed to delight her.

“I was late a handful of times all those years ago and you still hold that against me!”

“Of course I do.” Regina purred into the phone. “Because it seems to be working and you arrive at my doorstep on time.”

Emma couldn’t really argue with that since she had started being on time, first out of spite and later to impress. In fact she had stopped being late in general. Huh. Installing well done paperwork and punctuality in Emma was no easy feat, Regina was definitely a magical being.

“You are sneaky.” Emma muttered.

“I adore you too, darling.” Regina’s rich laugh sounded just as good through the phone. “I will see you at 6.”

And with those parting words the line went dead. Emma opened and closed her mouth several times, not even sure what she was going to say but trying anyway.

“You- she- what-” Breathless mutters were the only thing she was capable of. Her hands were shaking when she placed her phone on her desk, getting up and heading for the door of her office.

“How did it go?” Mulan asked, looking Emma over and noticing the shaking hands. “Are you okay?”

“She said- I am- We are-” Emma was pointing towards her office with one hand and combing through her hair with the other. She was aware she was looking mad but it wasn’t far from the truth. There were so many emotions shooting to the surface and she tried her hardest to experience them as calmly as possible.

But the two feelings that were shooting the highest and were the hardest to tame were absolute and utter shock and pure bliss. And those two smashing together wasn’t creating the kind of high one would want because it was just causing her to panic.

“Emma.” Mulan stood up and crossed over to her boss who just kept on waving wildly. “What the hell happened?!”

Making noises, Emma pointed to the office where she had left her phone like that was going to be enough to explain what had happened. She knew on some level it wasn’t going to be nearly enough, but right now this was the best she could do.

Mulan looked at her like she had grown a second head but just like always she remained calm. She let Emma go through her motions of freak out before asking simple questions.

“She answered you?”

Emma gave a thumbs up, her other hand still occupied as it had gotten stuck in her hair.

“She sounded alright?” Mulan was happy they had a way to communicate even when it was starting to get a bit comical.

The question earned another thumbs up from Emma and a groan as she managed to untangle her fingers from the now messy blonde mane. Mulan nodded, feeling a bit less worried as this sounded like a positive freak out in all its rather comedic seriousness.

“So, are we happy… About this phone call?” Mulan wasn’t sure what else to ask as Emma was still struggling to form sentences.

That was a double thumbs up kind of question and Mulan laughed. Emma looked much calmer and happier than she had seen her, maybe ever. Maybe the next question would award her with a verbal answer.

“Will you tell me what happened?”

“Everything happened, Mulan.” Emma spoke, too loud for the silent Station. The shock had melted away and the bliss was the only emotion on the surface and that made her feel damn near euphoric. “She is too busy to have lunch but she invited me to dinner again. Also get this! Henry won’t be home because he will go over to Mom’s and Dad’s loft. That is already different right? And then!”’

Emma couldn’t hold back a giddy laugh.

“Regina called me ‘darling’, Mulan! Darling! And she said she adored me!”

Mulan opened her mouth to say something, but that was when Emma looked up on the wall and her eyes focused on the clock on the wall. She looked like another wave of shock was about to hit her.

“It’s already 1 PM?! I need to get home to get ready, I need to be at Regina’s in five hours!”

That was when she nearly flew down the hallway towards the exit. In her wake, she yelled.

“REGINA SAID SHE ADORED ME!”

Mulan shook her head, smiling widely. She had no idea how Emma could spend five hours getting ready but she suspected most of the time would go into taming the tangled blonde curls.

“If this is what happens to Emma when Regina uses the word ‘adore’ I wonder what will happen to that poor woman when Regina tells her she is in love with her.”

And with that Mulan returned to her desk, content in keeping watch over the town as her friend was getting ready for a date that she actually knew she was attending.

Only when she reached her apartment, did Emma actually stop for a second to allow other thoughts to enter her brain. Not only had she acted like a madwoman, her gay panic detectable from space, but she had left in the middle of her shift, leaving Mulan alone to tend to Storybrooke.

Before doing anything else, Emma wrote an apology message to Mulan, promising to turn around if the warrior needed her. What she got back was ‘go get your girl’ with a rainbow emoji.

With a smile Emma entered her apartment, intent on making sure she was presentable for the dinner that she was pretty sure was a date this time. This would include an ‘everything shower’ and actually taking a minute to decide what she was going to wear. Her options weren’t plentiful but she was intent on making sure she wasn’t showing up in jeans.

It took Emma solid two whole hours to survive through the bathroom and another two as she tried on everything she owned. By the time she was in full get up, her hair and make up done, she had thirty minutes to spare.

There was no chance she was going to be late tonight, so the blonde slipped into her shoes before closing the door behind her. The drive from her apartment to Mifflin Street took just over ten minutes but with a quick stop to buy wine, Emma was there quarter to six.

While she had been busy getting ready Emma had managed to avoid thinking about things too much but now as she was sitting in her car in the driveway, the nerves were settling in. What if she had read it all wrong? What if Regina saying she adored her had been sarcastic and part of their banter, instead of anything sincere? What if this was going to be a normal evening and Henry’s absence nothing more than how things had shook up for them? What if-

That was when the dinging of her phone broke through her cloud of worry. It was a message from Regina.

When I said on the dot, I meant you weren’t allowed to be late. Not to sit in your car waiting for it to be six. Come in.

Of course Regina had noticed she had arrived. Swallowing thickly, Emma fluffed her hair quickly before stepping out of her car. Her heeled boots clicked on the pavement as she made her way to the porch. This time the door didn’t open before she made it, in fact Emma had to knock.

It took longer than expected for Emma to hear any sound from inside the house and the lack of clicking of heels was throwing her off. But before she could consider it more the door in front of her opened.

Regina was always a vision, a goddess, the most beautiful woman Emma had ever laid her eyes on. But there was something different about her today even when the dress she was wearing was something Emma was sure she had seen on the former queen before. Her hair was fluffed the same way as always, her makeup applied with years of practice.

But she was radiating warmth, her eyes somehow molten chocolate and the smile that pulled on her lips was soft and sweet. Emma was left speechless but her body responded to the smile without a thought. Moth, flame, all that.

“Hello.” The head tilt made the dark hair fall more to one side and Emma wanted nothing more than to bury her hands in it. She had gotten swiffs of Regina’s shampoo before but she had never had a chance to touch her hair and right now that was all she wanted.

“Hi.” Emma managed to lift her shaking hand into an awkward wave. She watched Regina’s brown eyes roam her form, taking in what Emma was wearing. The young Sheriff had opted for a pair of black dress pants and a white shirt. She had spent a solid fifteen minutes rolling up her sleeves the way she liked and the way Regina’s eyes lingered on her arms was making Emma feel hot all over her body.

“You look…” Regina trailed off and while Emma would have loved to hear what word the older woman was going to choose, seeing her eyes nearly black was all the compliment Emma needed.

Her confidence had gotten all the boost it needed as she stepped closer to enter the house. Instead of turning back, Regina took a few hurried steps back, her eyes never leaving Emma’s. Nothing was said for several long seconds after Emma closed the door after herself.

They were almost nose to nose, their breaths mixing. Feeling bold, much more so than maybe ever before in her life, Emma lifted her hand to tuck a strand of Regina’s hair behind her ear. If the brunette’s shuddering breath wasn’t the most glorious sound Emma had ever heard.

“What are we having for dinner?” Emma whispered.

“Follow me and find out.” Regina sounded a bit breathless but with a regalness of a queen she turned on her heel and headed for the kitchen. Emma followed behind her quickly, excited to see what Regina had planned for them.

Seeing ingredients spread on the counter didn’t really offer Emma a lot of ideas as to what exactly they were going to be having, but as Regina explained they’d be having tacos, the blonde relaxed. That was actually something she knew how to do and she was pleasantly surprised at the choice in food for the night, especially if they were actually on a date.

The music was already playing and Regina showed what she wanted Emma to start with as she headed into the livingroom to pour them drinks. It was shaping to go in rather similar fashion than last night but Emma didn’t really mind as she was desperate for a do-over where she wouldn’t freak out.

Regina returned soon enough, the ice clinking gently against the glasses she was holding in both of her hands. She offered one to Emma who took a grateful sip. No matter what kind of history Regina had with apples, her apple cider was world class. It had always tasted amazing and somehow year after year Regina invented a new way to make it even tastier than before.

As the silence fell between them for a bit, Emma poured all her focus on cutting the vegetables they needed for the meal. She was rather clumsy when it came to sharp objects so she was taking extra care not to have an accident.

That was when she felt two strong arms wrap around her hips and pull her ass against a warm body behind her. Suddenly everything felt burning hot, like it was too much but desperately not enough at the same time.

But when a pair of warm lips pressed against Emma’s neck and started to press gentle kisses everywhere within reach, the blonde tensed. Not because she didn’t want to live in this moment forever, but because suddenly everything was so much once more.

“What are you doing?” She was proud that her voice was only breathless and she managed to keep in the moan that almost escaped as Regina’s lips had made it near her ear. She was sensitive there.

“What does it feel like I’m doing?” The words vibrated against Emma’s neck and the blonde was holding onto her knife so hard her knuckles were white.

“Kissing my neck.” Emma didn’t know what else to say since it was the truth and she had no idea how to process any of this. In a perfect world she hoped Regina liked her back but it was a whole other thing to have those soft, sinful lips pressing against her neck like that.

“Very good.” Regina purred, squeezing Emma closer. “There are other places I could also be kissing…” And as she nibbled Emma’s neck with her teeth, letting out the smallest of growls, that was when the blonde lost it.

Her entire body reacted to the small bite, the knife she was holding slipping and cutting her on the top of her thumb. She shrieked in surprise and that dislodged Regina from her body. The brunette took a few hurried steps back, clearly unsure what had happened but as Emma turned towards her, holding over the gash on her finger, the former queen was spurred into action.

Within seconds she had reached for the first aid kit she kept under the sink and she was cleaning up the cut on Emma’s hand. It wasn’t too deep but it was bleeding rather impressively. A band-aid was applied and a gentle kiss followed it.

Neither of them said anything but Emma was cursing inside her head. How she had managed to ruin two nights was beyond her but she was also mildly confused. This was maybe their second date and while she knew Regina was bold she hadn’t expected this.

“Well, I think we need to rethink dinner.” Regina said and motioned over to the now contaminated cutting board and all things on it. “Thankfully we have restaurants in town that deliver now.”

Emma had to know what was going on, because her brain didn’t stop with the ‘what ifs’ and not knowing for sure was driving her insane.

“Regina?”

“Yes?” Regina was not looking at her as she was concentrating on cleaning and sanitising everything with her magic.

“Are we on a date?” Emma had never seen the look on Regina’s face as the brunette turned to fully face her, her cleaning task now finished. While Emma prided herself on being able to read Regina rather well, right now there was not a single bit of emotion crossing her face and the chocolate pools were completely unreadable.

“Yes.” Regina confirmed, her face not changing.

Emma sighed with relief because that at least was good to hear. Now it was making a bit more sense, if only a bit.

“And the kissing?” Emma couldn’t call herself someone who voiced her desires or actions, so having mentioned kissing twice in the last ten minutes was bringing a bit of blush onto her cheeks.

“Well, considering we have been going out for a while, I thought I’d make a move.” Regina shrugged and for the first time since the conversation started there was worry filling her eyes. “Did I overstep? It seemed like you were taking things slowly but I thought-”

“Hold on, hold on, hold on.” Emma had to cut her sentence short because understanding the first part of what Regina said was proving to be incredibly difficult. “What do you mean with ‘we have been going out for a while’?”

Disbelief. That was what both Regina’s entire posture and her eyes were showing Emma. The red lips opened and closed a few times, the sentences almost started but then disregarded. Emma wanted to say something but she had learned that sometimes waiting to hear what others said served her well.

“Emma. We have gone on five different dates. We were on one yesterday. I have held your hand, I have made you dinner, I almost grinded against you yesterday.” Regina was listing things and things were getting clearer with each word. But at the same time the blush on Emma’s face was starting to burn.

“Five dates?” Emma muttered mostly to herself but Regina heard her.

“I asked you to have dinner with me at the new restaurant in town a few weeks ago. We shared food from each other's plates and I held your hand throughout dinner. You played footsies with me under the table. You slept over at my house.” The disbelief was now very much noticeable in Regina’s tone too.

Oh.

Oh fuck.

“Then there was the night I took you to see Aristocats in the cinema because you once mentioned it was your favourite Disney movie. I searched far and wide for the tape so they could play it at our theatre.”

That had been a wonderful evening. Emma had never told anyone that because in a town full of storybook characters, too many of them hoped they were the Saviors' favourite tale. None of them was, but singing cats becoming a family at the end? Come on, what was better than that? But now knowing that Regina had gone through all the trouble in setting up made Emma feel like a fool but at the same time her heart was nearly beating out of her chest.

“Earlier this week we had a picnic in the park with Henry. While he was writing into his book, we laid together, almost cuddling, watching the clouds.”

Emma could almost facepalm at the sheer stupidity of herself. Why did it take someone else to spell these things out for her? All of these moments had actually been dates and she had had no idea. It had been beyond lovely, some of them were her more cherished memories. Hell, there were all the things Mulan had mentioned; all from food, to touching to the sheer sweetness and thoughtfulness of the moments they shared together.

“And yesterday, I thought we were taking the next step.” Regina sounded like she was a bit less disbelieving and more solemn, and that tore at Emma’s heart. “But you seemed distant and you left before we had a chance to talk, but I just thought you were taking everything slow because of how your previous relationships had been…”

And even when Emma had been giving Regina nothing, the brunette had made sure to think of her well being more than anything else. Emma was feeling ashamed and she was trying to work through her shock faster so she could respond to Regina.

“You really didn’t know we had been on dates?”

The question was toneless, and Emma looked up to meet worried eyes looking back at her. No, she had not known. She wasn’t sure why because that was the only thing she had wanted for years, but everytime she let herself hope too much her brain was fast in shutting her down.

“No.” Emma shot a sad smile towards Regina. “Not because I didn’t have a good time, because I did. The best time! But I can be a bit dense when it comes to these things and I have never really liked anyone the way I like you. I was so afraid you might not feel the same way about me.”

There was silence once more and the disbelief was back on if Regina’s face was anything to go by. Emma wanted to look away, her shame almost overpowering, but she stared back into the brown eyes.

“So, the hand holding, footsies, me nearly grinding your ass, read as a normal night with friends for you?” Regina sounded more amused now which calmed Emma down.

“I mean… Maybe with best friends.” Emma looked sheepish which in turn made Regina laugh out loud.

It was like the tension had been broken between them as Regina came so close they were nearly toe to toe. To Emma she looked happy, maybe even relieved. What do you know, maybe just talking things out was the way to go through life.

“Well, as you didn’t know we were on dates before.” Emma shot her a mock dirty look but Regina wasn’t deterred. “I consider this our first proper date. We have done most things in a rather messed up order but I’d like to know if I could kiss you. On your lips this time.” Regina’s tone dropped as her eyes did and she licked her lips as she waited for Emma’s response.

There was only one way for Emma to answer.

“Well, since I do like you, I don’t see why not.” Emma wanted to sound more playful but she could barely muster words as Regina’s breath was once again warming her face, her brain failing to get enough oxygen to fully function.

“You don’t sound too enthusiastic.” The raspiness of the brunette’s voice was making heat coil deep in Emma’s belly, every bit of wetness in her body travelling south.

“Oh, believe me, this is the one thing I have been wanting for years. I just can’t quite believe we are about to kiss. I’m half expecting to wake up from a dream.”

Emma hadn’t really meant to say any of that but it seemed to have been exactly what Regina wanted to hear. The strong arms wrapped once again around her hips, pulling their bodies flush against each other. Every breath they took made their chests rub together and Emma’s brain was giving up.

“I’m going to kiss you now.” Regina husked. “I can’t wait to feel your lips against mine, to feel you moan against me. I will ruin you for everyone else. In any world, timeline or realm you might enter, no one’s kisses will make you feel as good as mine are.”

Emma could only whimper as she felt her panties grow wet. Only thing she could focus on was Regina and the way she managed to unravel Emma just with her words.

“I’m already ruined but I want you to tear me apart.” Emma whispered, almost completely breathless, her heart nearly beating out of her chest.

That was all the invitation Regina needed as she surged forward to claim Emma’s eager lips. The moans that filled the kitchen were downright obscene, but neither woman cared. As they were finally on the same page, Emma didn’t waste a moment in wrapping her arms around Regina. Feeling their bodies pressed together was doing things for the blonde and she allowed herself to want.

Their kisses were messy and desperate, and it took a long time before they came back up for air. They were panting and with deep satisfaction Emma noted that Regina’s red lipstick was almost all the way kissed off. She knew the expensive brands Regina bought and being able to kiss that stuff off of her took some skill.

Which she had, of course.

“Well.” Regina was panting but not even trying to separate their bodies. She seemed very content in holding onto Emma and being held back. “That was quite something.”

“I’m so telling everyone you said that.” Emma smirked.

Regina rolled her eyes but she didn’t seem bothered. Instead she pressed a small gentle kiss to Emma’s lips that only lasted a second. She looked happy and content and that was all Emma had ever wanted for Regina.

“So, we are dating?” Emma confirmed and that earned her another deep laugh and a peck on her lips. God, she was never going to get bored of this.

“I’d say so. Well, I hope so.” Regina pulled her head back in wonder. “Do you want to date?”

“I want to just be with you.” Emma smiled. “We can call it dating if you want to, but I have been devoted to you for years, I have eyes only for you and I want you in any capacity you are willing to share yourself with me. You and Henry are my family, have been for years so what I want is to just be yours, officially.”

“I knew you were soft, Emma Swan…” Regina trailed off, her smile blinding. “You are mine.”

“And you are mine?” Emma knew she sounded a bit worried but she had never been good with stuff like this, let alone offering the entirety of herself to someone like this. It was unlikely that Regina was going to reject her after all this but some doubts were stuck tighter than others.

“Are you asking or telling?” Regina lifted an eyebrow in challenge. Emma was always up for one of those.

“And you are mine.” There was more confidence behind the statement, and Emma got her confirmation in full with a dizzying kiss. They kissed for a long time, both of their hands roaming each other's bodies freely. Emma nearly broke when Regina squeezed her ass and maybe the moan that tore from Emma’s body into Regina’s mouth gave brunette some ideas, because without a warning Regina pulled back.

“I want to hear you moan, Emma.” She was panting, her eyes black and hungry. “I want to make you scream my name. I want to possess every single part of your body and claim them as my own. You are mine now and I want to treat you like it. Mine. All mine.”

Emma was sure there was no dry spot left in her panties. Her legs were shaking, and everything inside her was burning. She wanted nothing more than for Regina to make good of her words.

“Please.” As soon as Emma’s moan left her lips, Regina waved her hand and they disappeared in a cloud of purple.

The following morning when Emma walked into the Sheriff’s Station, she was met with two sets of eyes that followed her all the way into her office. Emma even wished them good morning, and she got two faint good mornings back. That was all she needed and she set to meet her goals of the day which in her case were more paperwork.

Without saying a word, Mulan entered her office with a chair that usually was next to her own desk. She set it in front of Emma’s desk and sat on it, all without saying a word.

Emma wasn’t going to say anything and she focused on her paperwork as well as she could.

It was Mulan’s turn to break this time.

“Considering your neck is covered in love bites, is it safe to assume your date went well?”

Heat was rising to Emma’s cheeks. She had been aware there were hickeys on her neck but hearing them mentioned made her blush. But she also felt pride, because damn it was good to be claimed by Regina Mills.

“Yes.” Emma leaned back in her chair and smirked. “It went very well.”

Mulan smiled back at her and Emma felt even more gratitude towards her friend.

“I see. In that case I’m very happy for you.” Mulan leaned over to offer her hand so they could high five and Emma was very enthusiastic in her response. The high five echoed in the office and both women subtly rubbed their now sore palms.

“So, you guys are finally together then?” Mulan confirmed, having leaned back in her own chair. “No confusion in the air?”

“No confusion. She made it very clear.” Emma smirked, looking into the distance, a memory of last night playing in front of her eyes.

That was when they both heard it. The clicking of heels, approaching from the hallway. Emma wanted to say she had more chill, but she was happy and in love, so hearing the telltale sound of her girlfriend approaching was making her damn near giddy.

“Woah, she really got you.” Mulan laughed when Regina came to view.

It was like the entire world melted away and the only thing Emma could focus on was Regina. The connection between their eyes was electric and Emma could feel her body heat rising the closer Regina became.

“My love.”

Regina was standing next to her desk and leaned down to lift Emma’s face with an efficient finger under her chin. She connected their lips in a chaste kiss that fueled a fire inside Emma. And when they parted, Regina’s smile was adoring and only then did Emma notice that she hadn’t arrived empty handed.

“I brought all of you lunch.” Regina explained as Emma involuntarily sniffed the air. “I wanted to make sure my Sheriff’s Station is fed properly today.”

“Madam Mayor, while we appreciate the kindness, it’s hours till lunch.” Mulan was smirking and Emma was seriously impressed. There weren’t many people in town, or in any realm in fact, that dared to fuck with Regina. But Mulan had never been scared and Emma knew that Regina appreciated that. Which is why Mulan only got a smirk back from the older brunette.

“I know I don’t have to spell it out for you why I’m here, Deputy.” Regina turned around and lowered herself onto Emma’s lap. Emma was already trying to survive but feeling her girlfriend’s full bodyweight on her was doing things to her. “Now, if you wouldn’t mind distracting my girlfriend's father who looks like he'd want to be anywhere but here. I plan on kissing our dear Sheriff so silly she might not talk for the rest of the day.”

“Calm day for us then.” Mulan got up with a smirk and held out a hand for a high five once more. Regina met her for it and Emma looked dumbfounded from one of them to the other. She hadn’t seen that one coming.

“Have a good lunch, boss.” Mulan laughed and brought her palm closer to Emma’s. And with a smirk Emma happily high fived her friend before all thoughts were kissed from her brain by Regina goddamn Mills.

“Let’s head out, David.” Mulan hollered and laughed loudly as David nearly sprinted down the hallway.

It was a good day to be gay.
