Work Text:
Mika was making a map.
That wasn't surprising at all. It was what he spent a lot of his time doing. He just hadn't made one of home for ages.
Years, literally.
He was sure Klee had been busy, so new maps were in order.
He was stood up, getting the general area down on paper roughly before he could begin adding detail.
He squinted and leaned into the paper, adding a small dip in a wall, when he felt hands around him and nearly leaped out of his skin.
He nearly turned and whacked whoever it was with his Multipurpose Front-Line Surveying Device until he felt a kiss on the back of his neck and looked down at the hands around his waist.
Freminet.
He smiled and relaxed.
"Don't just appear like that. I freaked out."
His boyfriend kissed his neck again and leaned his cheek against Mika's shoulder. Mika turned his head to look at him.
He was beautiful. Through his long eyelashes, his pale eyes shone in the sun. His cheek squished against Mika's shoulder, the freckles on it adorning his skin like snowflakes, or the first drops of rain that turn the ground spotty. His lips were soft, pink, and, despite being thin, enticed Mika to lean forward and feel them with his own.
"Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you." He muttered, in that soft, raspy voice, and Mika smiled and leaned into the hug.
"It's okay. I'm just happy you're here, now."
Freminet hummed and kissed Mika's cheek, and every problem he knew felt like it didn't matter anymore.
He was here in the sun, with his boyfriend, who was crazy pretty and holding him, and he didn't care about any of the issues that had been plaguing his mind for the last however long.
He just cared about Freminet.
Another kiss was planted on the back of his neck, and Freminet spoke again.
"Mon cheri, you should be careful. Your skin is getting red after all this sun."
Mika paused, his face turning red.
"What?"
Freminet huffed, and Mika felt the air against his neck.
"I said you should be more careful, you're getting sunburnt."
"No, you said something else. At the start."
Freminet put his head back over Mika's shoulder.
"Hm?"
"Something in Fontainian."
"Oh!"
He smiled.
"I called you mon cheri. Ah, you're all red everywhere now."
That was true. Mika was blushing a lot. He wasn't difficult to make blush, as Freminet had discovered rather quickly, but a lot of the time that meant he blushed at things that didn't really affect him much.
His shoulders were tense and he was avoiding eye contact now.
That meant it was real.
"Mon amour, do you like when I speak Fontainian?" Freminet grinned, and Mika covered his face with his hands, earning a laugh from the diver.
"You do! Oh, I'm gonna have so much fun with this."
"Don't say that!"
Mika spun around in his arms, putting his own arms around Freminet's neck.
"Maybe I do like when you call me those things, but you can't just go around saying them to me whenever!"
"Why not, ange? Je t'aime. Je suis amoreux de toi. Can't everyone know?"
Mika leaned his forehead against Freminet's shoulder, groaning.
"You're abusing your power."
"Oh, am I now?"
"Yes."
Freminet laughed and squeezed Mika.
"I love this already."
"I don't! I'm gonna have a heart attack if you keep this up!"
Mika lifted his head, frowning at Freminet, who smiled and kissed him.
Mika's shoulders relaxed and he kissed back, one hand going from Freminet's shoulder to the back of his neck.
He lifted one foot slightly off the ground, exactly as it happened in all those romance novels Fischl forced him to read.
They stayed there for a moment until Mika pulled away for air.
"Not fair. Don't distract me with kisses."
"Oh, but you love kisses! And so do I! Je suis fou de toi!"
Mika giggled and kissed Freminet again.
"Well, if you're crazy about me, I guess it can't be helped. I just... Well, I don't wanna be made fun of."
Freminet sighed.
"Who would make fun of us for speaking another language?"
"We both have older brothers. I know I'd get teased to hell and back by Huffman just for having nicknames or pet names, them being in Fontainian would make it worse!"
Freminet pouted.
"You should run away with me to Fontaine. Lyney would just try to be a wingman. He's always trying to get me to find a boyfriend, he'd love you."
The knight hummed, and Freminet kissed his nose.
"I'm gonna speak Fontainian more to you."
"Whyy?" Mika whined, and Freminet grinned.
"Because you're cute when you blush."
That didn't help Mika cool down. He hid his face in Freminet's neck.
"You're mean."
"Oh, am I?"
"Yeah."
"Then leave me for someone nicer."
Mika smiled and kissed Freminet's neck.
"Nevermind. I couldn't do that."
"I know, mon coeur."
"Ugh."
Mika rolled his eyes and Freminet snickered and held him tight.
They were each sure they could stay there forever, stood in the sun with their arms around each other.
A breeze flew by, birds sang, and two boys sat in the grass, their fingers intertwined.
The Fontainian spoke smooth words from lands each of them remembered, and the Mondstadter laughed, clear as day.
Words were shared, muttered and whispered carefully.
The words each of them truly believed;
"Je t'aime plus que la vie."
