Sorry for not posting guys but I was at the OGP opening ceremony and had so much fun that I needed to get all that energy out of the system. Normally I crash after such a big party but they somehow kept us all refreshed throughout the event and we came out like Lopuunies on drugs. Yes I’m highkey trying to make y’all jealous.
But!
Buuuuuuuut!
That’s not what I wanna say!
So what happened was that yesterday I was going through all the videos I took, and I noticed something strange. And like the nosey person I am, I decided to take a closer look…

( Image description 1 : The photo is of a performance in the opening ceremony of the Orange Island Showcase Grand Prix. A woman wearing a beautiful blue dress, who most music enthusiasts would easily identify as the renowned ocarina specialist as well as flautist, Melody, is floating in the air on the back of a Pidgeot. She is in the middle of her performance. Because she is in the air, she’s perfectly level with the VIP viewing box, and some figures could be seen sitting inside.)
( Image description 2 : A zoomed in picture of the aforementioned VIP box. It is blurry due to the magnification but still good quality. Grand Champion Ash Ketchum, Monsieur Pierre, President Goodshow, Orange Crew Supreme Gym Leader Drake, Johto Champion Lance, and Unova Champion Iris are clearly visible at the front. Behind them, the Orange Crew, several members of the various regional Elite Fours, as well as some Kanto Gym leaders are also seen. A yellow and black, bipedal figure stands next to Champion Ketchum.)
( Video description : A very short video, focused on the yellow figure from the second picture. Quite blurry due to magnification. It is undoubtedly a pokemon. Close up, what seem to be blue zig zag patterns are visible on the torso, along with a long tuft of blue fur on the pokemon’s head. It is unclear but Champion Ketchum seemingly raises a hand, and in a flash of red light the pokemon is gone. The Champion then brings the raised hand to his belt. In the foreground, bits of the music performance is visible.)

Drama unfolds at this years’ OGP, as fans catch a glimpse of, possibly, a new addition to Grand Champion Ketchum’s pokemon roster. A Zeraora was seen by the Champion’s side in the VIP box, and returning to its pokeball. Could this be the long awaited electric type member that fans have been waiting for? The news remains unconfirmed but it's certainly shaking up the pokemon world. Details at sinnohsentinel.com

@zerovolthammer
Honestly I don't think this entire Zeraora thing is legit. The video is blurry and it's not clear whether it was actually the Champion who returned it to its pokeball. There’s a lot of Pokemon trainers in that box. A lot of strong Pokemon trainers in fact. Including Volkner, and Elesa, two electric type gym leaders. Between the Grand Champion who’s never bothered to catch another electric type before and two extremely capable electric specialists , well it's not exactly a surprise where I’ll put my money on. The only thing confirmed about all this, is that it's definitely a Zeroara. The rest is just people running with their theories.

Very true. I don’t really get why people are getting excited before an official confirmation.
-Candelabruh
@bruhxish
I agree. It’ll be cool if it's true but I don't think that's likely. Think about it, he’s been to so many regions and seen some really cool electric pokemon. He’s travelled with an electric type gym leader for cripes sake and yet, no electric type. At this point you have to admit it looks intentional. He seems really content with just Pikachu and Pikachu is a beast so I don’t think he’s going about catching electric types, mythical or not.
-trippinhipping
@fighttalk
@bruhxish Yeah exactly! Plus Shamouti Island is under his jurisdiction. If he was gonna go ahead and catch an electric type legendary it was going to be a Zapdos or something. Zeraora is way too out of left field!
-CrispyKrabbypatty
@burgerpitstop
@fighttalk Can’t believe you used that flimsy justification and then suggested Zapdos of all pokemon, when everyone knows the electric type legendary that he has a close bond with is Tapu Koko. So guys I think I found another angle, and from here it looks like he actually pulled out his rotom phone from his belt and wasn’t putting a pokeball back. So personally I don’t think this is real.
[Photo ][ Video]
( Image description : The VIP Box of the OGP, but from a sideways angle. It is of better quality and the Zeraora is clearly visible. GC Ketchum is also visible but there are others standing near him, including Volkner, Supreme Gym Leader Drake, Champion Iris, and KE4 member Will.)
( Video description : The VIP Box from the same angle as that of the previous image. There’s a bright flash of red light and the Zeraora disappears. However it's still unclear who exactly returned it. While the Champion did indeed make a motion resembling putting a pokeball back on his belt, similar motions were made by others as well, and a moment later, the Champion pulled out a rotom phone, so the motion could’ve been that instead of putting back a pokeball.)
-Feelingdizzy
@meinbaltoy
That doesn’t prove anything though. He could’ve put the pokeball back and then pulled out the phone. I haven’t seen it from this angle before though.

@hahaparkour As @meinbaltoy said this doesn’t prove anything. Off to the side you can also see Volkner pulling out his phone. By your previous posts you think the Zeraora is Volkner’s. If we use the logic you used here, then it's not Volkner’s either.

{VIDEO: A news jingle is heard first and then the UBC News logo floods the screen. In front are two of Unova’s most iconic news presenters, Donna, and Jeremy. The green screen behind them shows another familiar face in the UBC News lineup, Celeste. She is reporting remotely from the Orange Archipelago, working as the UBC’s on site reporter for the Orange Island Showcase Grand Prix.
Sitting across from the two news presenters is Mic, a Pokemon League battle expert, and someone who regularly commentates at the Vertress Conference for the UBC, a very familiar voice for many in Unova.
The news clip continues from a previous segment, with both presenters looking directly into the camera and smiling.)
J: “...and that’s all from Celeste on Pummelo Island. Now let's move on to the news that has caused quite the upheaval in the Pokemon battling community. Also from Pummelo in fact so it looks like we’re not quite done with the location yet. But this news has nothing to do with the performances, but rather something that happened in the background of the opening ceremony. What do you think Donna?”
D: “Yes, Jeremy. It has been absolute chaos on the internet, as you can imagine when the Grand Champion is involved. I have to commend the sharp eyesight of the fans for catching something that small though. Truly the dedication is immense.”
J: “Absolutely. So let's go ahead and discuss this in detail in our new segment, LeagueTalk.”
[A new logo now floods the screen, reading ‘LeagueTalk’.]
D: “For those of you who don't know what all this is about, a quick recap. Just a few days ago the Orange Island Showcase Grand Prix, one of the biggest events of the year began in the Orange Archipelago of the Kanto region. Performing at the opening ceremony were a lineup of the world’s greatest artists and performers, including the renowned ocarina player and flautist, Melody, the famed Marina troupe, who were collaborating with the water pokemon specialist Lana of the Alola region, as well as several previous Monarchs, including the Hoenn region’s Coordinator plus Performer heartthrob and the very first monarch himself, Drew of Larousse City. What a night I have to say!”
J: “With a lineup like this all this talk has gotta be about it right? Well we don’t blame you for thinking that. But surprisingly, what's got the whole world talking is something that happened in the background of all places. Take a look.”
[The screen behind them played the same video that Chatter user @malasadasadboi posted, the last part where the Zeraora returns to its pokeball slowed down considerably. The screen then plays the video again, pausing at the part where Grand Champion Ketchum and the Zeraora are the best visible.]
J: “Now I don’t know the details Donna, but at first glance that doesn’t seem all that shocking to me. The Grand Champion certainly has a lot of pokemon, and a number of them do frequently accompany him outside their pokeballs. So what's all this hubbub about?”
D: “And it's to answer questions like these that we have with us today an expert, one Mr. Mic, a familiar voice to all of us here in Unova. Glad to have you here once again Mic. Now, do tell us why this short, not even a proper minute long video caused all this chaos.”
M: “Glad to be here as well Donna. Now this video caused such a transregional sensation due to three main reasons. One, the typing of the pokemon you see in it, two, who the pokemon’s trainer might be, and three, the pokemon itself.”
[Jeremy consults his notes before addressing their guest.]
J: “Yes, the pokemon here is apparently a Zera-ora , an electric type legendary of the mythical variety. An ultra rare pokemon with records of its sighting only seen in Kanto, and Alola. But apparently that's not the main reason why this is extraordinary and causing a stir?”
M: “Yes Jeremy, the only thing clear about all this is that that pokemon is definitely a Zeraora. The truly shocking part however, is the possibility of the mon belonging to the Grand Champion. If this is true then I would say it would be a monumental moment for the pokemon battling community as a whole, regardless of your stream, conference, contest, showcase or otherwise.”
[Donna consults her notes.]
D: “Mic, Champion Ketchum’s roster of pokemon already includes legendaries, like his Single Strike Ushifu, Ultra beasts, such as his Naganadel, and a plethora of pseudo-legendaries. So can you elaborate on why this one is extra special?”
M: “Certainly Donna. To understand all the excitement surrounding this, it's better we first take a look at the Champion’s current roster.”
[The screen behind them is now divided into two, each section having ten squares, five by five, each of them showing a group of pokemon. The first square on the left side is further divided into two. Donna, Jeremy, and Mic, all turn slightly sideways to see the screen better.]
M: “Now this here on the left is the Champion’s pre-WCC roster, divided by the region they were caught in, except for the Galarian and Paldean teams, which were obviously caught after his campaign was over. On the right is his post-WCC roster, the pokemon he caught after becoming the Grand Champion during his travels across the world. Don’t be confused by the Kanto section being divided into two, that's for the Kanto mainland, and the Orange Archipelago. Also the WCC run is being counted as a separate section on its own even though it's not a region as such.”
M: “Now I have to say that all this combined, is his complete roster only as far as we know. Champion Ketchum is a notoriously private person but I’m sure I don’t have to tell a couple of journalists something you already know.”
[Mic looked at them with a smile while Donna, and Jeremy chuckled amusedly.]
M: “When you look at this roster, as a Pokemon battle enthusiast you realise many things. For example if you look at the pre-WCC portion, you’ll see that he has a tendency to acquire a regional bird pokemon very early on in his travels. You can see Pidgeot, Noctowl, Swellow, Staraptor, Unfezant, Talonflame, Rowlet, Corviknight…
Rowlet has people divided, since it's a starter and Pikipek is the regional bird, but it's still a bird mon so here in Unovan battle circles we tend to count it. In Paldea we see him with Bombirdier, another bird mon. This one is important, we’ll need to get back to that so take note of it. And as you can see, even during his WCC campaign, he still had a flying type on his team in the form of Dragonite. Now can you both take a look at this pre-WCC section and tell me what other trends you can see.”
D: “Well I’m not an expert here and I’m taking an educated guess but it looks like he has a habit of acquiring at least one starter pokemon each region. I can certainly see Samurott, Emboar, and Serperior over here in the Unova section. I do know that Charizard is the final evolution of a Kanto starter. And I’m somewhat positive that the green mon over there in Hoenn is also an evolution of a starter pokemon.”
J: “Same Donna, I’m an absolute newbie when it comes to this but it seems to me that he makes it a point to get a fire type in every region as well. Except for the WCC one but as you said it wasn’t a region as such. Seems like he doesn’t mind if it isn't a starter either, just take a look at Hoenn, Kalos, Galar, and Paldea. Those mon definitely don’t exude starter vibes to me.”
M: “You two are…absolutely right. Scared ya a bit there didn’t I? Ha!”
[Both Donna and Jeremey glare playfully at Mic.]
M: “Ahem! Getting back to the matter at hand, you can see from this that not only does the Champion have a lot of pokemon, but he also has several pokemon of the same type.”
[The pokemon are now classified according to their type. Some boxes are overcrowded revealing the Champion’s pokemon type preferences. But one box only has a single occupant. Mic points to it.]
M: “…Except for one. He has never owned an electric type pokemon other than Pikachu. And that folks, is precisely why the possibility of an electric pokemon in the champion’s roster becomes so exciting! It’ll be the first electric type on his team since his starter !
[Donna looks incredulously at the screen while Jeremy scrutinises it carefully.]
D: “You mean to tell me that not one of these pokemon is an electric type? Not even partially?”
J: “What about that giant one over there in Alola? I could’ve sworn I saw it use an electric move…”
M: “To answer your question Donna, no. Not one of these mons are electric. And Jeremy, that would be Melmetal and it's a steel type. It can use electric type attacks, yes but it's not electric in typing.”
D: “Is there any specific reason behind the Champion’s…avoidance, lets say, of electric pokemon?”
M: “I wouldn’t say it's avoidance exactly. And there are all kinds of theories regarding this all the way from the hilarious to the horrific. If you ask me, I would put my money on the two that I think are most likely, practicality-to-habit, and preference.”
J: “What exactly do these entail, if you could please explain?”
M: “It's fairly simple when you think about it. He's larger than life now, but once upon a time, he was an active league battler. I was actually one of the commentators for the Vertress Conference he participated in all those years ago. And as an active league battler there’s certain basic formulae you follow in terms of team composition according to your specific brand of battling. Champion Ketchum had a habit of building new teams in each region for the respective leagues he was competing in, that means catching new pokemon. But the thing is, he always brought his Pikachu along, so there was never any need to catch a new electric type. Think about it, if you already have a super strong electric type pokemon, which also happened to be your starter, would you try and catch a new electric type?”
D: “Certainly not! I’m not a battler but even I can see that it seems impractical to do so. Especially since at that stage I think you can only carry six pokemon with you. You need to save crucial space on your team. I can definitely see how this practice might have eventually become a habit even after his days as an active league battler were over.”
M: “Exactly Donna. Now the second theory is preference. For most trainers starters are special. They are the first pokemon you ever get and the pokemon you trust the most. And everyone knows just how special Champion Ketchum’s bond with his Pikachu is. It’ll be completely natural for him to want Pikachu to be his only electric type on account of that.”
[He gestured at the screen and the Paldea roster came to the front.]
M: “The best evidence for this is the Paldea roster. As I said before the Champion has a habit of catching a bird pokemon from each region and always having a flying type on his roster. So when it was revealed that the Champion was in Paldea, people were immediately drawing up all kinds of team compositions. One thing we were absolutely sure of was the inclusion of either Wattrel, or Squawkabilly, the two bird pokemon you encounter early on in the Paldea region.”
[The screen now displayed two pictures, one of a Wattrel and its evolution, and the other of the four variations of Squawkabilly.]
M: “Squawkabilly was eventually eliminated from contention when we got to know that it doesn’t evolve because the pattern had always been two stage evolutions, as in the case of Noctowl and Swellow, or three stage evolutions, as in the case of everyone else. Wattrel and its evolution Kilowattrel fit the bill, pardon the pun, much more. There was a lot of excitement in specific circles for the first electric type since Pikachu, but to our surprise, the Champion caught a Bombirdier instead, a flying/dark type that doesn’t evolve over a bird pokemon that fit his exact preferences. This incident lend more credence to the theories that Champion Ketchum would not catch any other electric type other than Pikachu.”
J: “Mic, a question. So as far as I understand Paldea was a surprising region all throughout when it came to the Champion’s pokemon choices. My notes here say that he did not catch a starter as was his pattern on his first visit to the region and that a starter only entered his roster on his second visit. In light of that, doesn’t the previous theory lose the efficacy of its argument by a lot?”
M: “It definitely does. You have to remember that these are all nothing but theories. They could be right, they could be wrong. For all we know the truth is that there isn’t an underlying reason at all and it's all a coincidence. But one thing’s for sure, if there’s an actual new electric type on his team, and it's a Zeraora of all pokemon, then the true chaos is yet to come.”
D: “That's something to simultaneously dread as well as look forward to, I should say. And with that we come to the end of our segment. I hope that all of you at home who missed the drama caught up to it all and are gearing up to participate in your own way. Is this real or not?”
J: “Well Donna on my part I sincerely hope this is true and that the electric type fans get what they want. This has, of course, nothing at all to do with the fact that my first pokemon was a Joltik. Thank you very much for your input Mic. We hope to have you on the show again. And on that note we are signing off here at LeagueTalk. I’m Jeremy…”
D: “...and I’m Donna.”
J & D: “And this is UBC News.”

“...The next bit of evidence we have is a post by Top Coordinator Dawn Berlitz on Chatter. It is a retot of Chatter user @servipergal’s humorous post about how Zeraora matches Gym Leader Volkner’s aesthetic so it’s more likely to be his than Champion Ketchum’s. If you go down to the replies of this post, we can see how several users are talking about how after some time, trainers and their mon start looking like each other. Coordinator Berlitz, a close friend of the Champion, agrees with this and reveals how the Champion has pokemon that not only resemble himself, but friends and rivals as well. At the end of her post, she tells us that Gym Leader Volkner is a good friend of the Champion’s. Now the question is why would she feel the need to say that? Especially within the context of the original post? If the Champion has pokemon that resemble his friends and rivals and Gym Leader Volkner numbers among them, and he also resembles a Zeraora, then doesn’t it imply that the Grand Champion does indeed have the mon in his roster?....”

Top 10 Pokemon Of The Grand Champion That Left Fans Baffled 🗲
With everyone and their Yamper talking about the possibility of the Champion finally adding an electric type mon to his team, we here at Buzzwoled felt that we need to remind the world of all the other times he shocked us with his pokemon choices and there were quite a few to choose from. So here are the top 10 roster additions to the Champion’s team that left both experts and amateurs stunned.
By Vega (Buzzwoled Staff)
10) Torterra
At number 10 we have Torterra. Our Sinnoh readers might scratch their heads at this one, because how is this surprising right? Torterra is a grass type starter and with the likes of Bulbasaur, Bayleef(now Magenium), and Sceptile already on his team by the time Torterra joined, his addition should have been a foregone conclusion. But what stumped battling fans was not Torterra’s typing, but how bulky the mon is. The Grand Champion prefers a speedy, heavy hitting battle style and one look at our boy Torterra will tell you that it just ain’t possible chief. He is Chonky(tm). The Ground/Grass type pokemon was much more suited to his then rival in the Sinnoh League, and now Frontier Brain Paul, than Champion Ketchum. So when fans research his pokemon they are always shocked to see Torterra in the lineup.
The Grand Champion in an interview by Alexa for the Kalos Times, had admitted that Torterra wasn’t initially compatible with his battle style and that the both of them had to work hard to devise their own unique style on the battlefield. Now Torterra is an absolute badass of a Champion Level Pokemon and a staple in the Frontier Brain Challenge.
9) Sableye
At number nine we have Sableye! Newer fans would think Sableye a completely normal member of the Champion’s roster but there was a time when this mischievous pokemon caused quite the stir in the pokebattle fandoms. Nowadays, with a whopping eleven ghost types on his team, certainly more than most trainers would catch, we would say, a new ghost type pokemon won’t be too much of a surprise for fans to see on the Champion’s roster. But years ago, the only Ghost Type the Champion had was his Gengar, the gigantamaxing icon from his WCC team. And it looked like it would stay that way too, when his subsequent Galar, Kanto, and Johto explorations added more mon to his team but none of them ghost type. Then came Hoenn and the famous exhibition battle between Champion Steven Stone and Grand Champion Ketchum where he brought forth his Mega Evolving Sableye. The world was truly shocked. You just had to be there.
8) Centiskorch
This fiery bug is number eight on this list. What made Centiskorch unexpected was…well the fact that it was Centiskorch. This mon was caught during the Grand Champion’s first Galar journey and everyone, literally everyone, expected him to catch a Scorbunny and evolve it into a Cinderace. Especially as his then travelling companion and now renowned Professor, Goh, yes that Professor Goh, had a Cinderace of his own that the Champion was already familiar with, and not to mention his rival, Champion Leon having one as well.
But to everyone’s surprise, he caught Centiskorch instead, and that too fully evolved and not as a lower evolution, in this case a Sizzlipede, as was his modus operandi with fire types. Just look at Charizard, Typhlosion, Infernape, Emboar, Incineroar, Arcanine, Rapidash, Darmanitan, Skeledirge, and so on. All of them were caught in their first or second evolutionary levels. Centiskorch is the only time he deviated from this pattern. And that's why it is on this list. (We didn’t count Torkoal because it doesn’t evolve.)
7) Bombirdier
At number seven is this menace of a bird. The Champion’s first foray into Paldea definitely shook things up for the fans as there were several unusual choices made in this region, not conforming to any of the pre-established patterns. And the most surprising addition was Bombirdier. Instead of catching a Wattrel, or even a Squawkabilly really, which fit the ‘ashmon’ criteria more, he caught the Flying/Dark type Bombirdier instead. This capture led to many speculations about the Champion’s avoidance of other electric pokemon, many theorising that he prefers to have Pikachu as his sole electric type. Now of course we have the Zeraora theory, which became sensational due to the same reason. In any case Bombirdier was a disappointment for the electric fans among us. Huge win for the Flying type and Dark type fans though.
6) Palafin
Paldea once again shaking things up. This cetacean pokemon was definitely a surprising choice for the champion. Firstly, people expected him to catch a Quaxly and evolve it into a Quaquaval. With Swampert and Empoleon joining the roster before the Paldea journey, that was six out of eight regions with a water type starter. There were even bets on this and the odds were ludicrously skewed. Guess who all got screwed when he rocked up with this bad boy. Secondly, well it's a fish, and he’s never caught a fish before. Fish pokemon are very limited in their ideal battling environment, and they didn’t seem like a good fit for a battler like the Champion. Granted Palafin floats and its hero form is the poster mon for an ‘ashmon’, but Paldea is far away, and most people didn't know any of that then. So yeah, there was a lot of noise with this one alright.
5) Gardevoir
Technically he caught it as a Kirlia, and oh boy, now this one sure caused some ruckus on the pokenet those days. Many would now ask why? By the time Gardevoir(Kirlia) came into the game, there was already Espeon and Togepi to fill out those psychic and fairy type boxes. And currently Gardevoir is a close combat beast that perfectly fits the Champion’s team. So why was it surprising you ask? Well as in the case of Palafin, we didn’t know that then .
Gardevoir is a psychic/fairy type pokemon and most trainers use the mon in a long range to mid range hit and run strategy. While this is definitely a style that’s compatible with the Champion’s signature style, and not as removed as in the case of Torterra’s usual Heavy Set Battle Style, it was still an unexpected choice to make. If the Champion was going to catch any mon from the Ralts evolutionary line, people were convinced it was going to be Gallade. And this belief was strengthened by the Champion’s Kirlia being male. But defying all expectations he evolved his Kirlia into Gardevoir instead. Dudebros were even insulting him about it smh. And then his Gardevoir turned out to be the one Gardevoir that wants to punch people in the face instead of Embracing them. Been real quiet on the dudebro front ever since.
(Even if his Gardevoir turned out to be the stereotypical Gardevoir, there was still no need for the vitriol. Some people are just nasty. Good on the Champion for sticking to his Pokemon’s wishes.)
4) Melmetal
It's a Mythical . Enough said.
3)The Eon Duo aka The Lati@s
Do I really need to explain this one? Though I do wish we see them in battle once. We only saw them once during the Asteroid crisis. Melmetal at least we saw in the Alola League, and when Grand Champion used it against Champion Diantha that time.
2) Annihilape
This mon right here is single handedly responsible for a good chunk of P1 Grand Prix fans finally giving Pokemon Battling a try. Yes I’m talking about Annihilape. Although it was caught in Kanto, the then young trainer Ash Ketchum left the mon in the care of P1 Tournament experts so that it could become P1 Champion. And it did. For nine consecutive years, this mon as a Primape was the undisputed King of the P1 circuit. The Champion retrieved the mon after his Kanto Champion title, and in order to make up for lost time, brought Primeape to his Galarian and Paldean adventures. In Paldea, the pokemon evolved into the Annihilape we know and love today.
This one caused mayhem in the pokebattle fandom as not many people knew that the P1 Emperor Primeape and the Champion’s Primeape were one and the same. Or that the Champion had a primeape at all really. Annihilape returned with the Champion for one more All Star P1 Grand Prix Tournament, and practically swept the opposition, making its win streak an even 10. Hype. Just Hype. No words.
Before we reveal our top pick for this list, we have some honorary mentions. Shoutout to Naganandel, technically you’re not a pokemon, you’re an Ultra Beast. Shoutout to Grimmsnarl, Shiny Trevenant, Dusk Form Lycanroc, Roaring Moon, and Iron Moth. (Can you believe that if it wasn’t for that Volcanic disaster we wouldn’t even have known he had the last two? What a guy!)
1) Ceruledge
And finally at No.1 we have Ceruledge. When I say people went crazy when this mon was first used against a challenger, I mean crazy. It was in…sane . Again newer fans would be like, why? That's because by now the double battle teams of Ceruledge and Armorouge are iconic in the Battle Citadel double battle segment. Back in the day though, people on this side of the world didn't even know what this Pokemon was, and when they did get to know the mon, they didn’t know how exactly it fit the Champion.
Maybe it will become a bit more clear when you get to know that Ceruledge was first, and Armorouge second. Yeah exactly. Armourouge, the poster mon for an ‘ashmon’ if there ever was one, was a later capture. Ceruedge’s ideals were in direct contention with the Champion’s ideals. Plus it is hinted many times that Ceruledge did not have a good life as a Charcadet. So you have a pokemon of that disposition, with distrust towards humans, with a trainer whose ideals we are all familiar with.
But somehow against all odds…they fit. It definitely wasn’t easy and the Champion has revealed in interviews the struggle to meet middle ground they both had to go through, and a small relapse when Armorouge was added to the team due to friction between the two mon as well. Watching them battle in perfect synchronicity in the Frontier Challenge, you would never guess at such a rocky beginning.
And that is it for this list. We are sure the Champion has more mon that the public don’t know of yet, so this compilation only takes in consideration the publicly available list of pokemon under his name.
Buzzwoled hopes you enjoyed it and will come back for more.

With all the chaos with the OGP ceremony and all, I noticed a lot of people who aren’t into pokemon battling or league conferences being confused by some of the terminology thrown around. People have been providing explanations for the newbies and I thought I’ll throw in my own two cents.
Now I’m sure you’ve seen this one everywhere in pokebattle spaces. Yeah I’m gonna try and explain the term ‘ashmon’.
An ‘ashmon’ is a term we use for a pokemon that fits Champion Ash’s catching preferences. Generally he likes fast, agile, heavy hitting pokemon. If he does deviate from this pattern, he never compromises on power. So his bulky mon, once they get that hit in, hits like Mega Raquaza on a sugar rush. Plus a lot of them can be surprisingly faster than expected.
So we have pokemon like Infernape, Greninja, Lucario, Sceptile, Charizard, Ceruledge, Armorouge, Flygon, Absol, Incineroar, or any of his regional bird mon for the first category. And mon like Snorlax, Torterra, Drednaw, Torkoal, Kingler, and Crawdaunt for the second category.
He also has a liking for pokemon that have unique personalities as well as burning desire to become stronger. These lists often overlap. That's how we get a happy go lucky Feraligatr, a sleepy Rowlet, a sunglass wearing Krookodile, a fight obsessed Gardevoir, and so on, on the same roster.
By applying this logic, most dragon types are ‘ashmon’. And what do you know, he has Garchomp, Goodra, Noivern, Naganandel, Dragonite, Dracovish, Flygon, Tyrantrum, Kommo-o, Roaring Moon, and the eon duo on his team. That's twelve dragon types.
In battle he tends to use a lot of unpredictable, out of the box strategies and post WCC he managed to adapt those strategies to ghost type pokemon. They are naturally pretty cunning and wily and they fit perfectly with the Champion’s unorthodox battle style. Same with dark type pokemon. So the term ‘ashmon’ has been extended to these pokemon as well. Plus they’re often misunderstood and we know enough about the Champion to know that he won’t abide by that.
An ‘ashmon’ also generally fits with the Kanto battle style that heavily influences the Champion’s battle techniques. So they tend to be primarily offence-focused pokemon.
His catching pattern remained consistent enough (mainly pre-WCC, he shook things up a lot post-WCC, like the influx of Ghost, and Dark types as mentioned before, and even Psychic, and a few Fairy types) that the term ‘ashmon’ developed in pokebattle spaces, primarily on the pokenet fandom and then it was co-opted by basically everyone.
Honestly that's all there is to it. After a while, you look at a mon and know instantly if it's an ‘ashmon’ or not.
…
…
…And then there’s Dundunsparce.
#OGP #Champion Ash Ketchum #Ashmon #poke-fandom terminology #Honestly what's up with Dudunsparce #I’ll eat my hat if anyone predicted that #Bro kinda majestic though #and friend shaped #a literal meme #but somehow an A tier mon #Which Mew sprouted this walking contradiction? #wait now that I think about it #It does fit GC

Referring to myself in third person is weird and never stops being weird.
[Vlog description and transcript:
May will be referred to as M and Mallow as Mal.
The video begins with May walking through a vibrantly decorated street lined with what looked like festival decorations. The camera is held at her side.
M: “So it's really early in the morning, about 5 am. Yeah I know right. But we have to be this early if we want to get a table at this place. Max told me that people were waiting in line for literal hours yesterday. Thankfully I have some connections and managed to snag a spot.”
The coordinator winked cheekily as she said the last sentence. She turned her camera to the back and a giant stadium could be seen on top of a hill.
M: “As you can see we’re still in Pummelo. Today I’m going to a very special place. From the title it's already clear what my destination is so I know most of you are already quite excited for this one.”
The camera is pointed to the front and at the end of the street was a small, clearly temporary building. A board that said Aina’s Kitchenette hung above the door .
M: “That’s right. Today’s location is the world famous Aina’s Kitchen, well kitchenette in this case as this is like a temporary setup for the OGP and from what I’m hearing, just as good as the real thing.”
She reached the front of the restaurant and knocked on the door. Within a minute the door was opened by a tall, tanned man. There was a Lickilicky behind him. He gave her a big smile and swept her up into a hug. May laughed happily.
M: “Ulu! Lickilicky! It's so good to see you two again! I didn’t know you were here with Mallow! Weren’t you in Galar?”
U: “I was! But dad decided to not come this year and the OGP is hectic enough for two people let alone one. So I thought I'd come help Mallow out.”
They both entered the building. May stood on her toes and reached up to pat Lickilicky on his head. The Pokemon happily closes its eyes and waves. Ulu leads May to a table.
U: “So Mallow is dealing with produce in the back and I’ve got some work left in the kitchen. She’ll be out in like ten at max. Do you mind waiting a bit?”
M: “Oh not at all. I’m the one who asked for some time in such a busy time anyway.”
Ulu laughs. He starts walking towards the kitchen.
U: “Oh come off it May. You know you’re welcome here anytime.”
May chuckles and her face then settles into a smile.
M: “For those of you who are definitely freaking out, yes that was indeed Ulu, the GOGOAT of Alolan fusion cooking. Yes, I do know Chef Mallow personally. And since we have some time, I’ll tell you how we all met.”
May settles into her seat more comfortably .
M: “Like a lot of my friends I met Mallow through Ash. As many of you already know, he was a student at Alola’s Pokemon School and Mallow was a student there at the same time. In fact they were classmates. And not just her, Lana, Kiawe, Lilly, and Sophocles were also his classmates. They were all taught by Professor Kukui during their time there. Very familiar names aren’t they? It definitely was a very illustrious class looking back. Far better than my attempts at school lemme tell you.”
May leaned forward in her chair, placing her hands on the table.
M: “A few years after Ash won the WCC, and became Kanto Champion, Max and I decided to travel together once again. Max had competed in the Galar League and was looking for a new challenge and I was in search of inspiration and we all heard from Ash how wonderful Alola was, and how it was his second home, how the people there were his family and all. So we decided to head off to Alola. And it was absolutely as beautiful as promised. Actually it was even more beautiful than promised.”
She smiles in reminiscence.
M: “But before we actually set off we called Ash up, he was in Paldea then I think, and was all like, “Hey we’re gonna travel to Alola. You’re the Champion. Can you hook us up?” Of course we meant that jokingly. But the madman called up Professor Kukui and arranged our accommodations, called Principal Oak and asked him to let us visit the Pokemon School, and gave us a ton of recommendations on food, sightseeing, and of course, the best places to see pokemon. Max and I were kinda overwhelmed to be honest. But that's Ash Ketchum for you.”
May does a ‘what can you do gesture’ with her hands at the last part.
M: “ And somewhere in that barrage of information, he gave me Mallow’s number and told me to call her up or text her, that he’s already told her that I’ll get in contact, because apparently I needed to try food from Aina’s Kitchen if I’m going to in Alola. He was right of course. One bite of their food and I was gone. To this day I haven’t had Saimin as good as Abe’s anywhere else. Abe is Mallow and Ulu’s father by the way. The food this family makes is exceptional. Anyhow, Mallow and I have been close friends ever since. She likes to make food, I like to eat it. Match made in heaven.”
May sits back once again. She takes out her rotom phone and places it on the table.
M: “Now I know that some of you come to my vlogs because you follow me as a coordinator and are kind enough to stay even after finding out that I strictly only put food content on here. So you might not be in the loop as much as others. So for further context, you know that Kalosian-Alolan fusion food expo a while back in Unova, how it was a big deal and several Champions were attending and all? That's Ulu’s brainchild with Cilan. And that giant desserts fest in Galar’s Ballonlea Stadium? Yeah Mallow was in charge of that. So these are big names in the culinary world. Their passion for food is amazing and I always feel honoured to eat their food.”
The figure of a tanned, green haired woman could be seen in the background, but May doesn’t notice. The new arrival just stands at the back, just observing May with a small grin on her face.
M: “I made this channel not only so I could document my food journey, but also to introduce people to really awesome places where inspiring cooks make delicious food. Aina’s Kitchen is definitely all of the above. They provide authentic, rooted, Alolan food with love and care and heart . By the way this is not me shamelessly endorsing a friend’s establishment. Their food is genuinely, mind-blowingly good. You gotta check it out! Today I’m gonna give you a preview of two of the delectable things they serve here, my favourites, Malasadas, and Alolan pancakes. Plus they're Mallow’s so they’re extra good!”
The grin on the green haired woman suddenly takes on a devious cast. She reaches around May’s chair and viciously hugs her from the back, startling the coordinator and making her flail and yelp. The mischievous hugger laughs and May seems to recognise the voice. She regains her balance and turns around before a huge smile of her own graces her face, and she returns the hug back properly.
M: “Mallow! How are you? It's been so long! You almost scared me to death man.”
Mal: “I’m fine. Just busy and we saw each other on video call like two weeks ago. Sorry about the scare. Couldn’t resist.”
M: “It's not the same and you know it. And you’re not sorry at all. But since you’re feeding me today, you’re forgiven.”
Mallow has a ‘busted’ expression on her face. May smirks and turns towards the camera.
M: “Guys this is the incredible Mallow, the person who’s gonna make us the dishes that are taking centre stage in this vlog. So onto the kitchen then Mallow?”
Mallow shakes her head and gestures for May to sit down. The Hoennian looked confused but she complied. Mallow then took a seat opposite from her. Right at that moment, the kitchen doors opened and a Tsareena came in, holding a plate full of malasadas in one hand, and a plate of Alolan pancakes in the other.
M: “You made them already? But I came so early! Mallow, did you make this batch early just for me?”
May looked shocked. But Mallow simply smiled as she took the plates from her pokemon and laid them out on the table.
Mal: “I was gonna make them anyway. It's no trouble.”
M: “But still! Also Hi Tsareena! Looking beautiful as always!”
Tsareena raised her head in a ‘As if I would ever be less than beautiful’ kinda way, but you can tell it's a playful gesture. The mon then went back to the kitchen. May adjusted the camera so the food is better visible, and then turned to Mallow.
M: “So Mallow, please introduce these dishes to our audience.”
Mal: “Sure thing. On the right we have Malasadas. These are a popular, beloved snack in Alola. You can find them everywhere on the islands. As you can see here, they’re essentially a fried pastry, a kind of doughnut if you will, with fillings inside, and covered in sugar. However, despite how Alolan a malasada is, it's not actually native to the region.”
M: “Seriously?”
Mallow nodded.
Mal: “They’re actually from a far away region off of the Paldean side of the world. Immigrants from that region came to Alola a long time ago and in time their food and culture became entwined with Alola. It's the same case with the Kantonian and Johtonian immigrants as well. This amalgamation of cultures is what makes Alolan food so exciting.”
M: “Amazing. Do you know anything about the precursor of the dish?”
Mal: “For one thing, they were apparently not filled with anything. For another, Alola uses evaporated milk in the preparation. Related to the first point about the filling, Alola also uses a lot of local ingredients, the native berries, fruits, so the flavour profile is very different.”
M: “No filling huh. Very interesting. Also in Alola, there are different types of Malasadas right? According to the city?”
Mal: “Oh yeah. Hau'oli City has a sweet Malasada, the Royal Avenue has a Sour Malasada and a Dry Malasada, while Malie City has both Spicy Malasadas and Bitter Malasadas. However, the classic Alolan Malasada you can get anywhere.”
M: “That’s amazing. Let's try them now.”
May takes a Malasada and eagerly bites down. Mallow does it at a much slower pace.
M: “Just as delicious as I remembered it. It’s sweet, creamy, and moist. The flavour just explodes onto your tongue. But at the end there, there is this tangy aftertaste that just completes the profile, and makes you wanna go in for more. The dough is perfectly baked, the right amount of filling…just perfect! Mallow you amaze me!
Mal: “Oh stop it! You’re gonna make me blush!”
M: “And you deserve it for making something so delicious. But what’s the filling here? Something’s different. I taste something in addition to the classic Alolan combo.”
Mal: “I added crushed up Pinkan berry to the filling mixture. We’re in the Orange Islands and I thought, why not make this OGP Malasada a bit different?”
May shakes her head in amazement .
M: “That's just wow. Absolutely the correct decision, and I will be taking this entire plate home.”
Mallow laughs, throwing her head back.
Mal: “You can, you can.”
M: “Now let's move onto the Alolan pancakes and they look beautiful. Please tell us why these are special.”
Mal: “There are essentially two kinds of pancakes in Alola. One is a traditional Alolan one, and the other is a Kantonian pancake. The first one is different mainly by virtue of flavour, the addition of Alolan vanilla and coconut milk make it really unique. The Kantonian one was brought to Alola by Kanto immigrants and is now a staple in the region. This is a souffle pancake and you can see how bigger, and thicker plus fluffier it is compared to your normal pancake.”
M: “It's very fluffy and bouncy. And the other one smells fantastic. Let's dig in.”
Again it's May who takes an immediately big bite. Mallow is much more sedate and obviously enjoys feeding people. May puts down her cutlery with a clang after finishing her portion.
M: “No word. Absolutely no words. You have ruined me for other pancakes. Everytime I go to Alola I eat these and I spend months feeling put off by non-Alolan pancakes. And when I finally recover, I go to Alola again. Rinse and repeat.”
Both May and Mallow laugh.
Mal: “That’s on you May. Don’t blame me.”
M: “I can and I will. Also for you guys, a fun tidbit of information. There is a thing in Alola called the Pokemon Pancake Race where they have to race with stacks of pancakes without it falling down. Now look at the size of these pancakes and how wiggly and soft they are. Seems impossible to race with it right? It's crazy, fun and chaotic. Check out some of the videos on pokenet. 100% entertainment I guarantee you.”
Ulu pokes his head out from the kitchen. He smiles at May and then gestures at Mallow. She nods at her brother. There was an air of disappointment on her face.
Mal: “It looks like it's time for me to get back to the stove. Sorry for cutting this short.”
May looked disappointed as well but also understanding. They both stand up from their seats and hug.
M: “Oh please don’t. I was the one taking up time. It's wonderful to see you again and I’ll drop by sometime later for sure.”
Mal: “Please come in again. Drop by in the afternoon and the three of us can have a good old Alolan stew for lunch. How about it?”
M: “Sounds perfect!”
Mallow waves and rushes back into the kitchen. May takes her camera from the table and packs up the rest of the food in the paper bag Tsareena brings her. She is very happy about the food and hums as she makes her way to the door.
M: “So there you have it guys. Malasadas and Alolan pancakes straight from an Alolan masterchef. Sorry for the abrupt ending but as I said they are very busy and we’re lucky we got this much at all.”
Out in the street, she spots her brother Max making his way over. She shouts out to him.
M: “Max! I got Malasadas left over!”
Max(distantly): Awesome!!!
M: “I’ll have to wrap things up here now. See you guys next time with more amazing food. Bye now! May, out!”

May coming through with some tasty looking food. Also I’ve tried Alolan pancakes before when Chef Ulu came to the Sinnoh food fest and they are delish. Alolan stew is really good too!

@highstreetboysco
I’m from Paldea so I’m more interested in the Alolan version of malasada. I want to know firsthand how much it differs from the malassadas I get in Paldea. Cascarraffa and Porto Marinada have great ones by the way. If you are ever in Paldea, swing by some of the local bakeries in these towns and you won’t ever be disappointed.

@loveisstoredinapplin
Yeah I’m fully on board for those pancakes. I’ve been to Kanto and their cafe culture is amazing and their soufflé pancakes are to die for. The cheesecakes too. If Alolan pancakes are anything like that, you bet your ass I’m gonna be there

You know what? I’m actually done with everyone denying this Zeraora thing. It's as if they think Ash Ketchum hasn’t done anything impossible before. Have you seen this man’s League Files? The part of it that isn’t classified at least? Bro it's absolutely possible for him to have a Zeraora. I’m okay with those doubting it because it's an electric type mon, but the so-called theorists debunking it because Zeraora is an ultra rare mythical…like who do you think Ash Ketchum is bro?
-blehsphemyforchemistry
@sendmeofftooalamos
You guys remember those channels that made videos about him definitely not having the eon duo with him? It's the same channels falling on the debunking wagon. And if you look at some of their history you’ll find videos of them criticising his training methods and ideologies. So they’re just haters.

Didn’t we have this entire discussion with the Roaring Moon thing? And Ceruledge? Its like people have nothing better to do

@loveaffairwithmycouch
While I’m sceptical of Zeraora because it's electric, I agree that it's garbage to think that he won’t have one just because it's rare. Cos he has a lot of rare pokemon. His Dusk Form Lycanroc is the only of its kind for cripes sake. There are actual legendaries with larger numbers.
