Flames From The Ashes

Summary:

Still wrestling with the injuries he suffered in Shibuya and too weak to suppress his heat or ride it out alone, Nanami is forced to consider hiring an alpha escort to help him deal with his predicament. When Gojo learns of this plan, he decides he has a better idea.

Work Text:

For the third time this afternoon, Nanami opened the escort agency’s website and then turned his phone to face away from him after barely a glance at the stock images of well-lit alphas with impossibly white teeth smiling over marketing slogans. His fingers brushed across the screen to close the window.

It was frustrating watching himself put off a task he would ultimately not get around. The indignity of being so bound by the demands of his nature was hard to stomach, but he’d waste Shoko’s considerable efforts if he let that stop him, and Nanami was not known for doing unreasonable things.

The bed he occupied on the Tokyo Jujutsu High’s hospital wing had a mirror hanging next to it. Nanami lowered the phone and looked himself in his remaining eye. Perhaps he would start wearing a glass eye if the scarred skin that covered the left side of his face could support it, once it had fully healed. His white t-shirt and bandages covered most of his upper body, but the barely-healed skin peeking out at the edges was still an angry red, the texture and look like molten wax. He flexed his arm habitually. He’d been told to do so to reclaim a little of its flexibility over time. Shoko said that perhaps some of the hair on his head would even grow back, though she couldn’t guarantee it. Lasting burn scars were to be expected even with the use of Reverse Cursed Technique.

“I’m sorry. We found you too late and your internal injuries were bad, so I had to focus on that. This is the best I could do,” she had told him, sucking on a cigarette.

“There is nothing to be sorry for. I did not expect to be alive. Thank you, Shoko-san.”

From what they had told him, his body had been recovered from behind a pile of mutated humans he had slashed through. He barely remembered those last moments before he’d collapsed, except the intense and ridiculous regret he’d felt as his knees hit the ground. He hadn’t found anyone, none of the many people he should have protected, but what would that realistically have accomplished? Wounded as he was, he would only have been a burden to them.

It remained to be seen if there was another role than that for him in sorcerer society going forward. However, he had a more pressing, immediate problem to deal with.

“Nanami!”

And now he had another one that was much more imminent. Nanami turned to watch Gojo bound into the room.

The thought was more habitual griping, really. Nanami imagined he would have unceremoniously bled out if not for the fact that a small hitch with the sealing ritual had allowed Gojo to escape the Prison Realm and clean up Shibuya, collecting his wayward students and Nanami’s half-dead body on the way. The kids were in a room down the hall and Nanami knew Gojo always visited them before he came to check in on Nanami. Who would have thought someone like Gojo would grow such a sense of responsibility? Though Nanami disagreed with the way the school treated children, he thought Gojo quite likeable in his role as a teacher.

“How is it going?”

Nanami made an undefined, quiet humming noise. Awful, was the honest answer, but he was in no mood to explain the details of his impending heat and adjacent humiliation.

“Shoko-san gave me some painkillers. How are your students?” he asked in return.

Gojo grinned, falling into the chair that stood by Nanami’s bedside, legs spread, one arm draped over the back.

“Shoko has already threatened to tie Nobara and Yuji to their beds, so it’s going well,” Gojo said. “Megumi is watching them on her behalf.”

“You are rubbing off on those two in unfortunate ways,” Nanami answered.

“Trust me, they didn’t need me to – wait, what is that?”

Because of the blindfold, following Gojo’s gaze was usually guesswork, but there wasn’t much else in the direction his head was turned to but Nanami’s hand and the phone he was still holding. One glance downwards and Nanami froze. The careless swipe of his thumb had not actually closed the website of the Tokyo Alpha Agency.

To prevent the greatest amount of mockery, it was probably best to say the truth before Gojo had collected his jaw from the floor. Nanami took a small breath.

“I’m in pre-heat. Shoko-san says my body will not be able to handle suppressants nor the strain of riding the heat out on my own. I’m going to need help.”

“You are? Why didn’t I notice?”

Before Nanami had a chance to respond, Gojo was up and leaning over him, pressing his face right under the unburnt half of Nanami’s jaw.

“Stop it! It’s difficult to smell over the disinfectant. You know my scent was never strong.”

If another alpha had allowed himself the liberty of sticking his nose up against Nanami’s neck, Nanami would have collected what little force he had left in his good hand and punched them in the face. Things were different with Gojo, though. Their old friendship paired with Gojo’s eccentric personality meant that Nanami allowed him leeway that he would never have afforded other people. Gojo had by and large always acted this indecent around him, but it was offset by the fact that he had never treated Nanami as lesser, unlike many others in the conservative world of jujutsu sorcerers, so Nanami considered it bearable.

And maybe Nanami liked his scent so close, the fragrance of cedar wood and fresh honey. Another result of their long acquaintance, he was sure; Gojo grounded him even when the his conscience wanted to crawl out of his mangled, burned, aching husk. As Gojo leaned back, Nanami suppressed the urge to follow the movement. He was not yet so pitiful that he had to play the whimpering omega.

Gojo snatched Nanami’s phone from his hand, lifting his blindfold for a moment as if he had to check he hadn’t misjudged. Even in this situation, Nanami was briefly distracted by the crystalline blue of his eyes.

“Okay, Shoko might be right, I can smell it up close. And you want to hire an alpha?” he clarified, as if Nanami hadn’t just given his reasons.

“Yes,” Nanami said bluntly. “This is not an uncommon dilemma for omegas in medical emergency situations, so I hope they can send someone who knows what to do.”

Besides, at this point he felt it was fair to pay someone to deal with this so that they would get something out of the deal. It promised to be unsatisfactory, ugly business for both sides.

Gojo knit his brows. “You’re hurt and you’ll be alone with a stranger,” he clarified.

“My choices are limited,” Nanami said sharply. The last thing he needed was someone to feed his doubts about what was, realistically, his only course of action.

The door opened with a rattle, emitting Shoko into the room.

“Are you bothering my patient?” she asked Gojo.

Gojo said “no” at exactly the same time that Nanami said “yes”.

Shoko ushered Gojo up from the chair. “You can keep annoying him when he’s out of my care,” she said. “I have to change some bandages.”

Gojo lingered in the door until Shoko pulled it shut in his face.

-

The case is a heat quelling for a medical emergency. I would prefer someone with experience, but anyone who can control their instincts enough to limit damages would be fine.

Nanami finished the matter-of-fact description in the box labelled “further comments” and looked over the application again. He had set almost no personalised checkmarks, leaving rows of empty boxed in favour of anys. Since this agency was reputable, there were no underage alphas on offer, and other than that Nanami did not care what age, body-type, or gender the chosen one would be or what they looked like. The heat was starting to curl low in his belly, twisting organs that needed time to rest and heal. He had to get help by tomorrow at the latest.

As he read through everything for the fourth time, he pushed himself up laboriously, rearranging the stack of pillows in his back, which kept bulging uncomfortably against his spine. His concentration was waning even without the heat. It was dark, past nine, and he hadn’t spent nights in this place since he’d been a teenager. The noises of the house made as it worked were unfamiliar now. He kept seeing nothing move in the shadows. When he closed his eyes, the fire the heat kindled inside of him seemed to burn on his skin again.

The door opened. Light spilled in from the hallway outside, outshining the small, cool square in Nanami’s hand. Gojo slipped into the room on soundless feet and closed the door behind himself.

“Are you still on that website?” he asked, like he had left ten minutes ago, not four hours.

“Yes,” Nanami said testily.

“You told me you don’t like alphas.”

Nanami’s mouth, opened to tell him to leave, remained so.

“When?” he said, finally.

“The first time I asked you if you had a mate you said you didn’t like alphas.”

Nanami stared at Gojo, who looked actually unhappy, as if Nanami had deceived him in some way. The fact that he even remembers that...

“When I was fifteen, yes. I was trying to protect my ego from the realisation that most alphas don’t like me,” Nanami said flatly.

Also, he’d been intimidated by the handsome, exuberant, brilliant older alpha and a little in love. Being a proud teenaged boy who had recently learned that he was in all ways undesirable to most alphas, he had tried to avoid putting himself in a situation where Gojo might refuse his affections, too, by preventatively shutting the door by himself. Gojo really didn’t need to know all that, though, his head was big enough.

“Oh,” Gojo said, leaning on the back of the chair. “Okay, I can see that being true.”

“Fuck you,” Nanami said calmly.

Gojo grinned, lifting his hands in defence. “I just meant I know what you mean!”

Not that that was a great feat. Nanami wore all his perceived weaknesses as an omega very openly: he was too tall, too broad, too strong, too hard-edged, too self-sufficient, too blunt. Alphas complained they did not feel like he needed them and outside of the most basic physical needs, he really did not. It didn’t mean he had not at times thought it might be nice to have an alpha in his life, but he was not ready to sacrifice integral parts of himself to make that happen.

“The majority of alphas in jujutsu society have barely made it past the Edo period, mentally speaking. I also really didn’t like them,” Nanami added.

“Yeah, I can see that, too,” Gojo admitted. “But there are alphas who’d be into you. Not everyone has the same taste.”

“I eventually realised that as well.”

“So you had alphas?” Gojo pressed.

“There were a couple, nothing long-term,” Nanami said, then interrupted himself. Why was he even entertaining this line of conversation? What business was it of Gojo’s and why did he make it sound like it was such an important matter? “But the kind of alpha who would be attracted to me can’t get anything out of me at this point, either. So no, I will not call one of them.” Because if someone wanted strength and self-reliance, what would they gain from an invalid omega who could barely drag himself to the bathroom? “Why do you care so much? Our enemies will still be licking the wounds you slashed. I doubt I have ever been important enough that they would think to infiltrate an escort agency of all places just so they can kill me, either.”

“Can’t I be concerned about you?” Gojo asked with an expansive shrug. “You’d still be at the mercy of an alpha you don’t know.”

Nanami’s thumb wavered over the phone’s screen, not pressing the button that would put his request in an inbox somewhere in Tokyo, and hopefully on the account of a reliable alpha escort soon after.

“It is what it is. I am not that squeamish,” he said, making his voice steady.

Was it a lie? Not in the sense that his concerns would stop him. Of course, with how mindless omegas got in a heat, anyone with a brain would have wanted a trusted partner over a stranger, there was denying that. It was the reason Nanami had almost always preferred using suppressants or spending his heats alone. Still, Nanami had never been one to share his pain and unease if he saw no point in it. Why should he make Gojo feel bad about a situation Gojo could not change?

The side of his bed sunk, tilting his body. The phone almost slid from his hand and he grappled for it with his weak, damp fingers, noticing half a second too late that Gojo had shifted over him, knees at the sides of his hips, elbows resting in the elevated stack of pillows, bracketing his face.

“Isn’t this better?” he asked quietly.

Unlike Nanami’s own scent, Gojo’s had never been subtle. It hit Nanami like a gust of wind in the plains, so sweet it was cloying and like fresh resin was bleeding out of young cedar wood over his face. Gojo’s warmth radiated. His breath was hot against Nanami’s ear.

He dropped his phone on his chest and, with all remaining strength, pushed his unbandaged palm against Gojo’s chest. It was sobering that his burst of anger did not even budge Gojo.

“Damnit, Gojo, I don’t just need a friend’s smell to latch onto. I need somebody to fuck me,” Nanami hissed.

He was tired and hurting all over. He could not do this now, whatever this was. His mind was fraying too much at the edges to follow one of Gojo’s multi-part jokes or byzantine plans.

Gojo hooked a thumb under the wrap of his blindfold and pulled it up, bringing the glittering blue of his eyes up close, his expression unusually sober.

“I know what a heat is, Nanami,” he said.

Nanami was struck silent. Well, of course he does. It was actually stranger to imagine Gojo had somehow misinterpreted the situation. However, that piece of the puzzle sat askew against all the others. As long as Nanami could remember, Gojo had had hordes of willing would-be partners of every persuasion trailing behind him, begging for his attention. What was he doing in Nanami’s bed now that Nanami was at his lowest?

I think he just realised he could have me. He wasn’t sure if that would be a sufficient prize for Gojo, but it seemed he’d believed Nanami rejected alphas on principle. Gojo was not a man who was used to being denied because he was so strong nobody could stop him from taking what he wanted by force; since he was all in all a decent person, that was not an option when it came to his lovers, though. Yet, because of the aforementioned throng of suitors, he rarely had to limit his desires in that domain, either.

Perhaps Nanami had accidentally made himself interesting only by being unavailable.

In that case, he should tell Gojo no. It would complicate things. Plucked forbidden fruits had the unfortunate habit of turning out to be regular apples, so Gojo would inevitably lose interest. However, Nanami didn’t know how easy it would be to set Gojo aside. If he was all the way honest, he had never been exactly neutral towards him.

But it was cruel, dangling this in front of him when he was in so much pain, his nerves shot, his mind sluggish from racing all day. If it was Gojo, he wouldn’t have to be on his guard. He wouldn’t have to try to gauge a stranger while they sat between his legs. He wouldn’t have to lie about his injuries. He wouldn’t have to be polite to smooth over the awkward lines of a business transaction. Even without the stark contrast of an unknown escort as the other option, Gojo was tempting only because he was himself, too.

Gojo’s body over his was like a thick blanket that pinned him to the bed, even though it was his presence alone that weighed Nanami down. Nanami tried not to breath his scent, but he couldn’t.

“Yes, it’s better,” he heard himself say, before his brain had given his tongue any permission.

Gojo grinned triumphantly.

“You’re not hooked up to anything anymore. I’m taking you to my place.”

Nanami breathed out quietly. It was a relief of sorts to have come to a decision, even if it was not a smart one. At least if he got through this heat, he would have a chance to think clearly afterwards.

“We have to tell Shoko-san,” he managed. Not that he very much relished the idea, but it would be ungrateful to simply vanish from her care and leave her worrying where he had gone.

“Right. Oh, and you won’t need this anymore.”

Gojo snatched his phone and stabbed the Tokyo Alpha Agency’s web page shut with a jab of his forefinger before he placed the phone back on Nanami’s chest, jumping lithely off the bed.

Nanami stared after him. Gojo’s smell was still on his clothes and on the blanket, overpowering now that the heat had its claws buried in his flesh and made him sensitive to alphas. Perhaps this would not end up shattering their friendship, at least. Gojo wasn’t the awkward type, Nanami could see him being at ease around an omega he had fucked and set aside afterwards. It would be solely on Nanami to monitor his own reaction and not feed false hopes.

He checked his messages one last time to make sure he had caught everything important before he’d be too focused to think about anything beyond the alpha on top of him.

Gojo strode back into the room with a grin. “I got her okay! But we’ll have to stay on campus grounds in case you have an emergency, so we’ll need to go to my room on-site.”

“Of course,” Nanami said.

Before he could add anything, arms slid under his shoulders and knees and his muscles seized uncomfortably as he was dragged through a tear in reality, stopping short with a jolt in the middle of Gojo’s room, his body hanging in the air. Disoriented, he wondered for a split second if he would fall, but his weight sagged into the immovable beams of Gojo’s arms.

Nanami cleared his throat. It had been twenty years since anyone had carried him, outside of cursed spirits and curse users throwing him around with their powers. The feeling was odd.

“You can put me down now. I can stand.”

“What are you going to stand for?” Gojo asked as he put him down on the bed.

Gojo did have a point. Nanami took a moment to glance around the room. It had been a long while since he had been in a space Gojo owned; his dorm had been the last. One bookcase was entirely filled with DVDs, which had been the same back in their youth, although some were Blu-rays now that he looked closer. There was an expensive flat-screen TV and an old DVD player that looked odd hooked up to the modern machine. A bowl of candy sat on a desk covered in messily strewn official-looking forms. The bed was king-sized and Nanami wondered if Gojo had ever brought hook-ups to school or if he just enjoyed spawling out.

“It’s too bad we can’t get to your nest. That would be more comfortable, especially now that you’re hurt,” Gojo mused as he as he turned away to dig through a big black wardrobe.

The thought was kind, though indeed unactionable at this point. Most omegas would have preferred a place filled with their own scent if they entered a heat as badly damaged as Nanami. Actually, Nanami was rather certain most people in general liked to be in familiar surroundings when they were hurt, but it was considered a heightened instinct in omegas.

“I don’t have a permanent nest, so it doesn’t make a difference,” Nanami answered truthfully.

Gojo laughed. “Are you even too serious to nest?” he asked, shaking his head.

“If you mean that I like to sleep in a bed that’s not a chaotic mess of unnecessary pillows and peoples’ unwashed clothes, then yes,” Nanami answered dryly. “I do nest during the heat, so if you have any spare blankets, I would appreciate that.”

Since the wardrobe was positioned with its side to the bed, Nanami could only see Gojo all but vanish inside it, making an affirmative noise somewhere from the bowels of the furniture. He emerged again still mostly invisible behind a heap of four blankets, which he spilled on the bed.

“There we go,” he said, self-satisfied. “Let me get something to drink for us.”

There was a mini-fridge plugged into the wall next to the desk. Unsurprisingly, it was mostly filled with sweet fruits, soft drinks and sugary yoghurt.

“Do you have plain water?” Nanami asked doubtfully.

“Hey, I don’t just drink sweet stuff!” Gojo complained. “Although you should have some soda down the line, you’ll need the energy. And me too!”

With a shake of his head, Nanami dug through the blankets, making them form walls around the edges of the bed. His hands caught on a sweater and a hoodie bunched up among them. The fabric was soft and no doubt expensive, which wasn’t unusual for Gojo’s clothes.

“These are not blankets. Your entire bed already smells like you, so is this necessary?” Nanami asked.

“It’s cute when omegas have your clothes in their nest,” Gojo declared.

Considering that Gojo was doing him a favour of sorts – though hopefully one he would get something out of, whatever he thought it might be –, Nanami decided not to argue and instead placed the tops near the pillows, where they were less likely to get stained with more unsavoury bodily fluids. Gojo clambered over the wall of blankets in the meantime.

“If I scent you, you’ll smell like me, so my smell all over everything will be more familiar,” he decided.

It was not the first time Gojo had scented him, another one of his little boundary-breaking habits that Nanami had gotten used to over time. Nanami was one of the more constant presences in Gojo’s life, so he supposed in some way he was included in a vague idea of a pack by Gojo’s instincts. Since he rarely dated alphas, it had never been a problem. The way Gojo would rub up against him, nestling his head into the crook of Nanami’s neck, felt nice.

“You always remind me of a big cat when you do that,” he said idly.

“Eh?!” Gojo drew back. “That’s not very sexy!”

The corner of Nanami’s mouth twitched. “It’s still true.”

Gojo huffed as he sat back on his haunches. Looking more closely around him, he barked a laugh. “Your nest is symmetrical!”

“What’s wrong with that?” Nanami asked, perhaps a touch defensive. He knew that he had never been someone who built very cosy nests.

Raising his hands, Gojo shook his head, snickering. “Nothing, nothing. Maybe it’s a jujutsu sorcerer instinct. You raised a blanket curtain around the whole bed.”

Nanami snorted as he looked at the bunched-up blankets that surrounded them. The tension that had dispersed from his body returned as his actual instincts fought to the forefront, lured in to fire up the simmering heat within his body to a hotter flame by the scent of Gojo surrounding him, clinging to him. Up to now, the squabbling and touches were very much in line with what their relationship had always entailed and so he had felt almost comfortable for a moment, but the reality of the situation was coming back to him.

“Do you need help with your clothes?” Gojo asked, misinterpreting Nanami’s silence.

“It’s fine,” Nanami said.

He would rather not seem as helpless as he felt. Though helplessness was considered a desirable trait in omegas sometimes, it wasn’t one he had ever wished to possess. The ideal was more about a tender constitution that could elicit protective reactions, not serious, large-scale burn wounds, anyway.

He grabbed his t-shirt by the back with his good hand and pulled it over his head. Most of the damaged skin, including the hollow eye socket, were currently covered by bandages, at least. Considering it was easier to wrap them around the whole upper body, there was not much of his torso to work with at the moment, aside from one uncovered arm and shoulder. At least his lower body was mostly fine, except for some fading bruises. That’s the important part for the process, I guess, , he thought to himself.

“I’m fairly limited in what I can do,” he admitted to Gojo, keeping his voice matter-of-fact. “The corner of my mouth is burned, so I can’t even open it very wide.”

“You won’t be able to suck me off, then,” Gojo said with a smirk.

Nanami wanted to slap him for the dumb answer, and yet it somehow put him at ease that Gojo was still himself. “You know I can check if you are bragging in just a minute, yes?”

“Yes,” Gojo gave back, muffled by the pullover he was divesting himself of.

There was no arguing Gojo was a very handsome alpha, especially since Nanami had been trying to not notice it for more than ten years by this point. He was a little more slender than Nanami, but his corded muscle was shaped as perfectly as if he had stepped out of a gym advertisement, with defined pecs and a six-pack that was so symmetrical it could have been drawn. When he kicked out of his trousers, pulling his shorts down in the same go, Nanami had to make sure not to stare.

Apparently, he hadn’t been able to keep the look of surprise off his face entirely, since Gojo showed a satisfied grin. “So, am I bragging?” he asked.

“I don’t answer obvious questions like that,” Nanami said, trying to ignore that the lizard part of his brain had just sent a thunderbolt straight through the core of him, every nerve ending firing.

“That’s almost dirty talk coming from you, Nanami,” Gojo said, leaning in. “You laid on your back in the hospital bed, so the burns are worse on the front, right?”

“Yes,” Nanami said.

“So it’s probably best for you to be on your back now, too.”

He pushed gently against Nanami’s shoulder, but Nanami resisted. “I can’t move much if I lie down flat on my back. It’s a bit difficult to sit up again right now.”

“You’re not supposed to move much. Shoko would have my head. Let’s stack up the pillows a bit, though.” Gojo said, already reaching past Nanami.

Nanami wasn’t sure why, but he hadn’t expected Gojo to be so considerate of his problems right now, perhaps because in his mind, he couldn’t marry it with the fact that Gojo had chosen to sleep with him. There was no time to untie that untidy knot in his head right now, though, since Gojo was already urging him to lie down and Nanami found himself resting against Gojo’s black sweater.

When he turned his head around to look at Gojo again, Gojo kissed him.

It wasn’t a very deep kiss, owing to the fact that the corner of Nanami’s mouth was still healing, but it was long and hard, pressing Nanami’s head down into the pillows. Gojo nipped his lower lip before he leaned back and Nanami heard himself make a quiet noise in response.

“You’re really level-headed for someone going into heat,” Gojo pointed out, hand wandering over Nanami’s thigh. “I’d be worried you don’t like me, but...”

One finger dipped under Nanami’s balls and pushed between his folds. Though his cock was only half-hard, the easy slide of Gojo’s finger betrayed that his pussy was already wet. He was not surprised, since all the touches over the last hour had added up.

“What do we do for protection?” Gojo asked, leisurely dragging his finger over the sensitive flesh. Nanami twitched, heel digging into the mattress.

“I’m on military-grade contraception and Shoko-san ran every test there is on me,” Nanami said, thinking that he should have been the one to ask that. The heat had sneaked up on him, reason quietly leaving through the backdoor.

“I’m clean, too.”

“Then you can do what you’re comfortable with.”

“Oh? You know that means I’m going to pump you full of my cum until it’s leaking out of you, right?”

It was a feeling like whiplash, seeing Gojo’s customary confident grin, hearing that familiar teasing voice, but then have such words come out of his mouth. Nanami’s cock was not just half-hard anymore, and somehow there was still blood left over to rush to his head.

“Be my guest,” Nanami managed.

Gojo snorted at the answer and moved downwards, brushing his fingertips over Nanami’s cock before he crouched down between his legs. “I want to taste you first, though. Is it okay if I raise your leg?”

He did, and Nanami winced as a sharp pang of pain ran up his side when his middle was bent. Gojo quickly let go.

“Better not, huh?”

“I could put them over your shoulders,” Nanami said. That angle wouldn’t be as sharp as long as Gojo was on his hands and knees between his thighs.

“Great idea,” Gojo answered with feeling.

Adjusting his position, Nanami watched Gojo’s face. As he ducked his head, his tongue flicked out of his mouth, licking his lips. The movement seemed unplanned, instinctual, and it made Nanami’s insides twist with want. Focused on Gojo’s face as he was, and with his sitting position leaving him slightly elevated, he also noticed when Gojo slid off his blindfold just as positioned himself.

“Now you take that off?” he asked, exasperated.

“Are you shy?” Gojo teased.

“No,” Nanami protested, although perhaps in this specific circumstance, the word applied. Somehow, he felt more exposed than he would have if Gojo hadn’t worn anything to begin with. The starlight-on-day-sky colour of his eyes also made his gaze seem so much more intense than that of normal people.

“I wanted to see your cunt up close. It’s such a nice shade of pink, almost like your face right now,” Gojo mocked.

Before Nanami could protest, Gojo let his tongue join his finger and a fuse in Nanami’s head seemed to blow, temporarily disabling his tongue. With the pain and myriad thoughts distracting him, it had been easier to push away the heat, but when Gojo started eating him out, he could no longer escape the tendrils that already been grasping for him

He reflexively opened his legs wider and Gojo took that invitation, diving in, uncaring that his nose was pressed against the most sensitive parts of Nanami. There was very little planning to the way he moved, like he simply went with whatever his whim was in the moment: He teased his entrance with his tongue, then pulled back to suck at his clit as if it was one of his pieces of hard candy, moved to swipe it broadly over his folds, added another finger to stretch his hole while he sucked Nanami’s balls into his mouth.

With no time to get used to any one thing, Nanami was left panting for air, and just when he had thought he might have adjusted to Gojo enjoying himself here and there like he was at a buffet, Gojo pulled his finger out of him and instead pushed his tongue in as far as he could. It was so warm and twisted against his insides, bending and curling, and Nanami’s pussy clenched around him, his cresting orgasm frustrated by a feeling of a pit inside him, the heat leaving only ashes.

“Gojo,” he managed, unable to keep his voice from wavering, “it’s not enough.”

“What do you need?” Gojo asked sweetly, leaning back.

“Really?” Nanami groaned. “This is also an obvious question.”

“Unfortunately, I just can’t seem to think of the answer!”

Scowling, Nanami looked at Gojo, who wore an angel’s smile somewhat marred by traces of Nanami’s slick smeared all over the lower half of his face. The sight was obscene and Nanami couldn’t hold on to his stubbornness in the face of it.

“Your cock,” he ground out.

“Not even a ‘please’? Tsk,” Gojo made, shaking his head. “Well, I’ll have you begging soon.”

He moved forward, holding Nanami’s legs to both sides of his ribcage. It kept them at about the same elevation they had been before, making it easier on his wounds, which Nanami was grateful for – he had almost lost sight of that necessity, staring hungrily at the thick, hard length between Gojo’s legs instead.

Gojo lined himself up and pushed in at once, making Nanami arch off the bed with a grunt. He reached so deep inside him he could almost believe that he was all the way up in his stomach. Gojo looked pleased like a cat with a mouse in its paws and drew back to push into him again.

The pace was hard and fast, betraying Gojo’s own impatience, and Nanami found himself dragged to the peak again within moments as he greedily met Gojo’s thrusts. He came without the touch of Gojo’s hand on his dick, his walls drawing tight around Gojo’s big cock inside him, Gojo’s quiet chuckle in his ear.

However, the pain that had been drowned out by the pleasure asserted itself like the strike of a whip. As his muscles spasmed, Gojo rocking into him put even more pressure on his stomach, and his entire upper body lit up like it was on fire again. The fog of the heat had masked the pain too well until it couldn’t anymore, and now it came back full force.

“Stop – stop,” he rasped, one hand raised against Gojo’s shoulder.

He was not nearly strong enough to force Gojo to slow down, but nevertheless, Gojo immediately stopped dead. Nanami let out a shuddering exhale, eyes closed, his hand clinging to Gojo’s shoulder as he breathed through the waning ache.

“Nanami?” Gojo asked, alert.

“I’m sorry,” he said. Frustration was bleeding all over the words as he gritted his teeth. It had been good, and he’d wanted Gojo to have fun as well, but his body was too close to falling apart. “It hurt. I can go on in a moment.”

To his surprise, a hand landed on his head, gently ruffling the remains of his hair. “Take your time,” Gojo said. “Who is rushing us?”

Nanami managed a slow nod. Intellectually, he knew Gojo was right. It was his own expectations pushing him beyond his boundaries, not Gojo. He’d been accommodating ever since they had started, so Nanami shouldn’t think he would suddenly decide not to be. His friend could be rash, but he was not cruel or stupid; he must have known that he wasn’t signing up for the easiest heat.

“We don’t have to continue, you know?” Gojo said into the stretching silence.

“I need your knot,” Nanami said, though it didn’t sound much like a tempting plea, and it really wasn’t. Nanami wanted it, but he also didn’t have too much of a choice in the matter. With his weak constitution, his body was going to cook him alive from the inside if he didn’t get that satisfaction.

“I can jerk off and put it in you just before it swells,” Gojo said, after thinking for a moment.

It was such a sensible suggestion that Nanami should definitely have agreed, but something within him resisted the idea. He couldn’t tell whether it was the heat instinct or the part of him that had had a faint crush on Gojo since he was boy and didn’t want their first and likely only time in bed together to be so clinical.

“Let’s try one more time?” he asked.

He would have understood if Gojo had refused him out of hand, but Gojo nodded his head. Nanami adjusted himself to wrap his legs around Gojo’s middle, finding the most comfortable position, and gave him a gesture to continue.

“I shouldn’t have teased you so much,” Gojo said as he leaned down to kiss Nanami again. His voice was warm against his mouth. “I love it when you’re flustered, though. I have to rein myself in.”

This time, Gojo was moving slow and deep, making Nanami feel every inch of his cock as it moved in and out of his hole. He slid his arm around Gojo’s shoulders, pulling him down so he could kiss him again. The position should have felt more awkward, since Gojo couldn’t press up against his chest because of the wounds, but the proximity of him was already intoxicating. Whether the pain had abated or he was just more drugged on Gojo’s scent, Nanami couldn’t truly tell, but he was soon making small, breathless noises into Gojo’s mouth and drinking up Gojo’s unabashed moans in return.

Since Nanami was keeping his legs in position, Gojo had one hand free to grab Nanami’s cock. This was better, Nanami realised. His legs locked around Gojo’s waist meant Gojo had full control over the way his body moved, and he was keeping Nanami’s excitement at the pace he wanted, stroking him in time with his thrusts. Giving up every shred of control like this was daunting, but it reduced the danger of their movements clashing, and it was easier for Nanami to keep himself relaxed and pliant when that was all he had to focus on.

As Gojo’s thrusts grew more erratic, Nanami sank deeper into the pillows, allowing Gojo to ride out his orgasm inside him. The second wave of his own orgasm didn’t slam into him like first as he came on Gojo’s cock, spilling himself over his hand, but his head was swimming from the overwhelming presence of his scent, the pheromones in the air as Gojo’s knot was growing inside him.

He blinked himself back to consciousness to Gojo mouthing kisses against the unburnt side of his jaw, stuck deep inside of him.

“That was good,” Nanami said.

“Yeah, I know,” Gojo replied smugly. “You were all blissed out.”

Nanami rolled his eye at him, but didn’t say anything. The restless energy, like ants crawling in his veins, had abated. He knew it would return, but for the next few hours he should have a chance to get some rest.

They kept exchanging short, small kisses until Gojo’s knot had gone down and he pulled out of Nanami.

“I need to go to the bathroom, I’ll be right back.”

Nanami nodded his head, watching Gojo disappear. Without Gojo next to him, the room suddenly seemed a lot colder. As he dug through the mess of bedding, his hand met Gojo’s hoodie that laid crumpled on the pillow under him. Gojo had been very accommodating to him tonight, so Nanami felt that he should pay him back. If he liked to see omegas nesting with his clothes, he probably also enjoyed it when they wore them. With some difficulty, he pulled the sweater over his head. There wasn’t much of the classical effect of a big alpha’s clothes hanging off a willowy omega happening; Gojo wasn’t so much taller than him that the sleeves were noticeably too long, and Nanami was even a bit broader in chest and shoulders, so the hoody sat pretty snug on his frame.

However, as the bathroom door opened again and he saw Gojo forget the towel in his hands while he was staring at Nanami, water dripping from his hands onto the ground, Nanami knew he’d hit the bullseye.

“You should also drink something,” Nanami said, holding the water bottle he had just opened to Gojo. “You worked harder than me.”

“You look good,” Gojo purred after he’d taken a swig of the bottle, placing it back on the nightstand.

He slotted in against Nanami’s good side, head on Nanami’s shoulder and his hand resting over his chest. Even his legs wrapped around Nanami’s, winding between them as much as possible.

“You’re clingy,” Nanami noted, but there wasn’t any bite to his words.

Gojo yawned as his eyes slid shut. “Isn’t it normal to be protective after your omega almost died?”

Sudden silence fell between them. Gojo’s eyes had snapped open again. He looked up at Nanami and Nanami stared at him. Not just an idle slip of the tongue, then, Nanami thought.

“Your omega?” he asked.

Gojo didn’t say anything, but he didn’t backtrack, either.

“Did you want that?” Nanami pushed.

More quiet. Gojo was still holding onto him like a burr. “I thought you didn’t like obvious questions,” he muttered.

Nanami kept fixing him with his gaze. “Why did you never say anything?”

“I told you, I thought you didn’t like alphas!”

“Because of something I said twelve years ago when I was a teenager?”

“You also never had a mate,” Gojo pointed out.

That was true, since his two alpha boyfriends had only been around for a few weeks each. Nanami rubbed his eye with the base of his hand, buying time as he was trying to think of an answer.

“And you let me do all these things to you, wearing my scent and everything. I could never figure out if you would eventually accept me as an alpha, or if you just cared so little about anything alphas do that it didn’t even register.”

When Gojo put it like that, Nanami could not help but admit that it made sense. “It’s a shame we did not clear that up before all this,” he murmured, gesturing at the bandages.

“What difference does it make?” Gojo asked, genuinely bewildered, as he pushed himself up on his elbow.

“Doesn’t it make a difference?” Nanami gave back the question. “I will try to get back to fighting form, but I don’t even know if I can still work as a jujutsu sorcerer.”

“So? Don’t be a sorcerer, then. What does that have to do with it?” Gojo shrugged. “You can be both my omega and a salaryman.”

Nanami frowned. The thought of going back to that kind of job was chilling, as he still remembered the spiralling void of meaninglessness that his life had been back then, but he’d have to do something to earn money, after all, so maybe there was no choice. However, if Gojo didn’t place importance on his involvement with the jujutsu world, then the two matters were indeed not related.

“No?” Gojo asked. He sounded uncertain, which was a very unusual tone for him.

“I don’t really want to be a salaryman anymore,” Nanami clarified. “That’s not a problem I can or want to solve tonight, though. I don’t... being your omega would be fine if you don’t mind all the damage.”

“No way. Scars are hot,” Gojo just said, barely hiding his relief as he nuzzled into the crook of Nanami’s neck again.

It was such a blatant oversimplification of the issue that it made Nanami smile just a little. When Gojo was so close, he could almost believe that it didn’t have to be more complicated.

For now, he was tired, so he let his head sag to the side, leaning into Gojo’s unruly mob of hair. More detailed discussions of what this would entail could come later. Gojo dropped his arm low to his hip, where the burn scars didn’t reach, and pulled Nanami even closer.

“I can’t believe you didn’t figure out I wanted to date you after I scented you for years,” Gojo muttered into his shoulder.

“Shut up,” Nanami said quietly.

In hindsight, maybe it was somewhat obvious. The conjectures he’d made early on to protect himself from rejection had been in the way of him seeing very simple truths.

Gojo’s shoulders twitched with quiet laughter. “You’re still like a little virgin around alphas. Don’t worry, I’ll teach you everything.”

Nanami tried to shake off Gojo and was captured in another kiss in return. He opened his mouth as much as he could for him. As Gojo pressed his tongue between his lips, Nanami thought it was almost impossible all of this would still be real when the unforgiving light of morning found them in this bed. However, since he was on borrowed time, anyway, he would simply enjoy every moment of it for as long as he could.

He did wake up in Gojo’s arm the next day, too.
