Chapter 1: Poseidon doesn’t have Demi-kids..

Chapter Text

Confession time: I ditched Grover as soon as we got to the bus terminal.

I know, I know. It was rude. But Grover was starting to freak me out. I get his fear though, even if I won’t admit it yet, especially out loud..

He kept looking at me like I was a dead man, muttering “Why does this always happen? And, “why does it always have to be sixth grade.”

Whenever he got upset, Grover’s bladder acted up, so I wasn’t surprised when, as soon as we got off the bus, he made me promise to wait for him as he goes to the restroom, instead, I grabbed my suitcase and got the first cab uptown.

So, a heads up before I get home, I’m not like the other.. kids.. Yeah, cliche but it’s true. To start off, my old “stepdad” Gabe Ugliano lived with me and my mom, Sally Jackson, for about two years before mom got tired and kicked him out. Right before that, my dad came back, apologized to both of us, gave mom the strength to kick Gabe out, and has been living with us as much as he can since. My mom also got another husband, to make things more confusing.

It will make sense I promise.

“I’m home!”

I heard cooking in the kitchen, the talking halted when I called out. My dad steps towards the front door to greet me.

“Percy! Welcome home. How was Yancy?” Dad says, pulling me into a hug.

“It was fine. I got kicked out again. Your brothers are trying to kill me.” I say quickly and move towards the kitchen to greet my other dad, Paul Blofis.

“What?”

“Hey Paul.”

“Hey Percy, how was Yancy Academy?”

Before I could get a word out, dad answered for me. “He got kicked out.”

“Well, moreover expelled, but this time it wasn’t my fault.” I take a blue pancake Paul was making for some reason. “It was one of those monsters, I think Grover called them a kindly one. So I’m blaming your brother.”

“Hades isn’t one to attack dem- er your cousins.”

“Yeah, I get that, but Mr. Bruner and Grover were still worried. Also I think that I’m going to get attacked soon.”

“Good thing your school’s out.”

“I guess..”

The front door opens to mom calling out. Dad moves to kiss her on the cheek and told her about what happened at Yancy as Paul places the blue pancakes on a plate and onto a table. Mom walks in, obviously tired, which makes more sense on the pancakes, kisses Paul and sits down where he guides her.

“I’m going to camp.” I say, getting all three of them to look up at me.

“Are you sure Percy? You’re only twelve, we can try for a few more years.” Paul asks

“I need the training and dad can’t take the time to teach me, and the longer I’m here without any sort of training and such, the more dangerous it is for you and Mom.”

“Percy.” Dad hesitates “I won’t be able to help you there. I won’t claim you either. I won’t put you through the problems that would follow. I can’t tell you what to expect yet, but I do know you will be alone if you go.”

“I know.”

“Ok. We should leave soon. The solstice is closing in and the monsters will come closer the longer we wait then.” Mom says, standing up and moving to her bag.

“Percy, if you’re really certain-“ “I am.” “pack a bag, I’m dropping you off at camp.”

I leave the kitchen, grab my suitcase from the front, and go into my room to pack a bag for camp.

I got most of the essentials and clothes inside, ignoring the conversation about me from my parents, when I heard a knock on my door.

“I wanted to give some help before you go, and some warnings.” Dad says from the door.

“About?”

“Your powers. My domain and control will give you an advantage. Using these powers will let them know who you are. If and when you are ready I suggest using them. While you’re not.. Try to stay away from water.. And horses.”

I try muffling a laugh. Out of all the things I expected out of that talk, that was not what I thought he was going to say.

“I’ll be careful. I know you haven’t been telling me a Lot. And I know the reason, though vaguely. I promise to be careful.”

Dad nods, hesitating before pulling me into a hug.

“Stay safe” I could tell he knew that wouldn’t happen.

Mom and I get into the car. Fleeting wishes to stay and promises to try and keep us safe came from both of my dads. I waved one last time before mom started driving off.

I think you deserve an explanation now. No point in hiding when they can tell I know.

My name is Percy Jackson. Son of Sally Jackson, stepson of Paul Blofis.

My mother is in a complicated relationship with my biological father and Stepfather, neither guy minds and seems to prefer the relationship.

I am a Demi-god. I have powers and control over the sea and all that live within.

My name is Percy Jackson, and I am the Son of Poseidon.
