Work Text:

It was well worth the effort he spent to get Wilbur to even take him seriously, let alone this far.

He traced his eyes along the lines of Wilbur's face, the sharpness of his cheekbones clearly not through genetics but weight, but still adding a gorgeous touch to his face. It made Aurelius want to keep him in his bed forever, cook for him just to see the flustered smile that always crossed his face when he did. He wanted Wilbur to stay forever.

Said man turned slightly, burying his face into the pillow with a contented sigh. It took everything in Aurelius to simply cover his face with his hand instead of reaching out to cradle Wilbur's instead. He had some willpower. That, and he didn't want to accidentally wake the clearly exhausted man, he had never seen darker eyebags.

Laying his hand back down on the bed, he watched as Wilbur took deep, slumbering breaths. The softness of sleep made him look- god. It made him look like the divine being he was, glowing in the faint dawn light that filtered in through the crack in the curtains. The faint streaks of white starting in his hair, the deceptive delicateness of his stature. The way his eyes, dull as they were, seemed to glow with some inner desire for something. He could stare at him for hours, had at some point, the memory foggy with alcohol. He was teased over that moment still, and the amount of ammo they were accumulating was growing. But he couldn't find it within himself to care. Not about this. Not if it meant he got to see Wilbur whenever he wanted.

He hoped he was able to hold on to this life forever. It was worth any war, any near death, anything at all. Anything to be able to on day hold this man in his arms without fear of him disappearing when he next awoke.

   It was worth it all.
