Work Text:
Lola tightens up the corset with a quick tug, lifting her breasts northward and then covering her seat. These showgirl costumes were lovely and spangly but wow, it was impossible to use them to hide all of the most necessarily coverable parts of her frame.
“Mind if I help you with that?” a deep voice called from the corner of the room.
“So is your shift done?” She leapt at the sound of his voice, but her lover knew how to couch it all in a smile and a wink. “Could you?”
“I’m back on at midnight,” he explained, and came over to tug her seat down. “You look amazing.”
He always thought she looked amazing, which was a help but a hinderance. The guy never noticed if she was hiding spinach in her teeth. He thought she was the grandest girl, the sweetest girl, in the history of the whole world. Lola smiled at him, handsome in his barman’s clothing. He was beautiful, too, though he didn’t seem to know it.
“Are my feathers and sequins all lined up?” she asked.
He nodded. “Shiny as always.”
She nodded. “Good.” A fanfare played. She grabbed her marabou boa from behind the sofa and strutted up to him, giving him a firm kiss on the mouth.
Tony melted into her. His hands surrounded her waist, but she playfully pushed him back.
“Now now,” she teased. “I can’t smudge my lipstick until after the show.”
He groaned and followed her out the door. She headed for the stage, he headed for the bar.
Before he rushed out of her sightline, she turned her head and gave him a wink.
