Chapter Text

For every age, there is a time of trial: The rocks faced such a fire before they were the strength beneath our feet; The plants braved vast winds before their roots could give us life. As a sage of considerable years, I have known only one such great ordeal. Yet the hero it created was a champion for all time.

It was midday in the village of Sandover; the birds were chirping, flowers were blooming, and people were going about their business as well, except for two. One was a tall teen with green-blonde hair running through the village, while the other was an orange-rat-like figure that was on his shoulder.

"Hurry, Jak!" shouted the orange rat. The teen Jak glared at the rat as he ran through the village. “Oh man, the old man’s going to kill us,” the rat lamented. Jak merely shook his hand as he looked at his destination, a hut with a large golden ring in the back.

“Ok we need to think of a story to explain why we’re late before moldy logs get here.”

"A story before who gets here.”

An old man who had logs on his head walked into the hut. "Can you two boys explain to me why you’re so late!?!?" the old man yelled so loudly that Jak and Daxter had to put their cover on their ears.

"Well, you see, Samos. Jak decided it was a good idea to sleep an extra hour before we came up here, but don’t worry, Orange Lightning was there to wake him up.” Jak had rolled his eyes at the explanation. Samos was about to go into a rant on why today was so important before he was interrupted.

“Come on, Daddy, you know how Jak was tired after we finally brought the gateway back to the hut.” A girl with green hair with a wrench in her hand walked in. “Hey Keira, how about you guys get together and get some ice cream?"

Keira simply rolled her eyes and ignored Daxter’s comment. "I came in to tell you guys that the rift ride machine is fixed and ready for us to get in.” “That’s amazing news, Keira,” congratulated Samos as everyone walked out to see it.

The rift ride machine was positioned in front of the rift gate. Daxter had jumped off Jak’s shoulder and walked towards the rift ride machine with Keira. Samos had turned to Jak. “Today's the big day, Jak. I hope you are prepared... for whatever happens.” Jak thought he almost sounded sad around the last part. His thoughts were interrupted by Samos reprimanding Daxter for touching the machine.

“ Daxter! Don't touch anything! Though the Precursors vanished long ago, the artifacts they left behind can still do great harm!“ shouted the sage. Before Daxter could even say something Keira had butted in. “Or great good! If you figure out how to use them.”

“I've had some experience with such things. I know you can make it work," said Samos. Jak cautiously pushed the red gem-like button that had started the machine. "It looks like Jak's still got the mojo!”

Some numbers then appeared on the screen, and the rift gate appeared to be opening. “Interesting. It appears to be reading out some preset coordinates.” As Keira had finished speaking, a small earthquake happened. Purple lightning had started to strike the precursor ring and the rift rider.

The white glow of the rift gate was changed to one of purple as it had started floating. “Wow, look at that!” Daxter commented. Then a booming voice was heard from the rift gate.

"Finally, the last Rift Gate has been opened!

Strange metal creatures started coming out of the Rift Gate and started attacking the village. “AAAAAHHHHH!! What are those things?" Daxter screamed.

“So this is how it happened...,” said Samos. A giant monster with 8 appendages and a green gem on his head appeared in the rift. With a mighty roar, the creature said “YOU CANNOT HIDE FROM ME BOY!!!”

Keira then turned to Jak,“ Do something jak.” As Jak tried to look at the machine, Daxter started to push random buttons in hopes of doing something.

“ What's this do? O–or that? How 'bout this one? Everybody, press all the buttons!”

Jak then grabbed the controls and drove the Rift rider through the portal and past the beast.

“What was that thing!” asked Keira.

“Hang on everyone!!,” said Samos

The Riftrider shook uncontrollably as if it were in a blender while in the portal. Jak tried to get the machine under control but it was useless.

“AAAAHHHHHH!!!! LET ME OFF THIS THING!!!!,” Screamed Daxter

The Riftrider was then struck by a bolt of energy that broke apart the machine separating everyone.

“FIND YOURSELF JAK!!,”

That was the last thing Jak heard before falling out of the portal.

Jak and Daxter had fallen out of the sky and landed in a strange new place. The ground was covered in metal and there were strange metal structures everywhere they looked.

“ Okay, I swear, that's the last time I ever, ever, touch any stupid Precursor crap!,” said Daxter as he held a piece of the broken machine.

“There he is!”

“Move in!”

3 Strange men started walking toward the two boys holding weapons in their hands. Two of the men wore red armor while the one in the middle had a strange yellow jumpsuit and a small red breastplate. Daxter had screamed and begun to run away from them leaving Jak behind.

“Forget the rat it’s him he wants.” the one in the middle had said.

They had begun to surround Jak.

“We've been waiting for you.” as soon as he finished his sentence one of the Red armored men hit him knocking him unconscious.

As they began dragging him away he heard his best friend “ Don't worry, Jak! I'll save you before you know it!” was the last thing heard before he lost consciousness.

But even champions would need help. Help that didn't come from this world. He was calm in intense situations and was always ready for action, but most of all, he was daring. His name was

——————————————————-

“KIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCKKKKKKK!!!!!!”

In another world in another time on top of a cliff called Dead Man's Drop stood a kid. A kid who wore a white jumpsuit and a white helmet that had a red line in the middle, yellow gloves, and boots. The rain hadn't seemed to slow him down though. Rain poured down on his clothes but it didn't even seem to phase him.

“Kick are you sure you are ready!!!”

At the bottom of the cliff stood a young boy wearing a raincoat and an umbrella.

“Of course I am Gunter. Why wouldn't I be?”

“Oh well, I dunno but um maybe it's because of how bad the weather is right now!!”

“The storms, not that-”

KRACKAKA-BOOOOOOM

“Bad”

Gunter didn't look too sure of his best friend’s confidence.

“It’ll just be a quick and simple skating down Dead Man drop and onto the ramp and then we can go back to our homes,” Kick said with a determined look.

With a heavy sigh, Gunther gave his one last before saying “Alright give me a couple of minutes to set up the ramp for you Kick.” As Kick saw him go get the parts he looked at the sky letting the rain hit his face and seeing lightning across the sky.

‘I've done nothing but been stuck inside for 2 weeks without doing any stunts because of this storm. But guess what Mother Nature Kick Buttowski isn't afraid of getting wet so bring it on!!!’

“Kick the ramp been set up are you ready,” Gunther yelled interrupting Kick’s thoughts.

“More than ready”

Kick had dropped his skateboard on the edge of the cliff and put one on it. Then with one kick, he began his descent.

Normally skateboarding down Dead Man Drop would be shaky but thanks to the storm it's smoother. Kick couldn't feel more alive now than the last 2 weeks he had been couped up in his house. He hadn't felt the wind in his face, he had missed the adrenaline rush from doing this even when he thought he was going to lose control going down the drop.

He was nearly down the cliff when he saw it.

The ramp.

It was time he could feel it. Thunder boomed and lightning filled the sky as if it was taunting him he booted faster and faster to the ramp. With fire in his eyes, he went down the ramp. When he started to get to the top had jumped and started to do a 360.

If only he wasn't struck by lightning.

“KIIIICKK!!!” Gunter yelled out as he saw his best friend fall to the ground. But before he could run over to catch him a portal appeared directly under where Kick would land taking him straight through.

It felt like slow motion for Kick. One minute he felt like he was on top of the world next he felt so weak that it would physically break his arm if he tried to move it. The next thing he did was to pray for Gunter to get something to break his fall. So he waited

And waited

And waited

And waited

But the impact never came. When He opened his eyes to something really strange. He was falling but instead of seeing the ramp, mud, or anything that resembled the bottom of Dead Man’s Drop, he looked like he was falling through a purple portal.

“What... the… biscuits”

HELLO STRANGER

Kick looked up to see a being made up of pure light that had pointy ears.

WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT. FOR THE AWESOME ONE TO COME AND HELP OUR CHOSEN ONE.

“Whaa..”

The glowing being put his hand on top of Kick’s helmet.

YOU’LL BE SENT TO OUR WORLD THAT IS COMING TO AN END. YOU MUST HELP US PREVENT IT USING YOUR SKILLS TO HELP THE HEIR FOR YOUR DESTINY AND HIS ARE INTERTWINED.”

Visions of various worlds pass through Kick. A World that features white rabbits helping a limbless man, Three boys washed up on a beach with an orange creature, and four knights fighting a type of wall of flesh flash through his mind.

IF YOU WISH TO RETURN TO YOUR WORLD YOU MUST SEEK OUT THE HEIR OF MAR.

SEEK THE HEIR

THE HEIR

But Before Kick could even ask who, where, or what was going on he saw a white light at the end of the portal envelope him.

He popped out on top of an open dumpster landing in the trash in an alley. With enough energy, he hopped out of the dumpster and looked around. What he saw was nothing he expected, people having pointy ears, strange-looking buildings, and flying cars.

Kick's jaw dropped to the floor in awe before letting out the following sentence.

“What

The

BISCUITS!!!”
