The Sound Of Hearts Breaking

Summary:

The Madrigals feel true helplessness as they watch Mirabel trying to get the candle during Casita's collapse

Work Text:

A feeling of helplessness hits Alma just as hard as it did 50 years ago, when she was watching her husband die to the hands of those bastard mercenaries as Casita carries her to saftey even as she falls apart. She hadn't even gotten the chance to take in anything that Mirabel had been yelling at her, though it was still ringing loud and clear in her mind, over and over as she looks around those that had been thrown out a little more roughly than she had.

Pepa, Luisa and Dolores, who looked terrified and in pain as she covers her ears and screwed her eyes shut tight enough that it looked painful, were to her left. Pepa's eyes wide as she watched her husband and youngest narrowly avoid being crushed by a falling door, before being pushed into her arms "Camilo, where's Camilo?" She asks, sounding as scared and helpless as Alma felt as she searched the vicinity and then tries to subtly move back into the falling house.

Not that Casita lets her, as the house throws Julieta into her arms, the eldest immediately scrambles back towards the house with a shout of "Mirabel! Mija please!" As one, the family watches as Mirabel climbs up higher and higher, whilst catching glimpses of Camilo and Isabela as they also try to do the same.

Alma watches as the two fall out of view, onto the floor that has pushed everyone but Mirabel out to safety. Pepa pulls Camilo into her side when he, like Julieta, tries to scramble back inside to get his prima to safety, only for the door way to collapse into itself mere moments later. The sound of Casita falling apart grows in volume by the second, but none of them can keep their eyes off of Mirabel as she finally reaches the top of the house.

Everyone's yelling grows frantic as the cracks reach Bruno's tower and it begins to give way. Alma is finally brought out of her stupor as Mirabel, her miraposa, turns around clutching the candle to her chest, loses her balance and drops along with the debris of the tower. She cant help it, she screams, as loud and long as she did 50 years ago because this can't happening again!

Gods above she can't be loosing her home and another member of her familia again! She'd already lost Pedro to his own protective nature, as well as bruno to the pressure she'd put on him. She doesn't think she'd survive if she lost her youngest nieta! She begins to waver on her feet, only just been kept from dropping painfully to her knees by someone guiding her to sit down as shock and an overwhelming amount of helplessness over takes her.
