Chapter Text
THUD!
Peril jolted awake at the loud sound, glancing across the cave to see Clay, lying on the floor, asleep. He had fallen off his bed. Again. She sighed and stood up, rubbing her sapphire blue eyes. She walked over to where Clay was lying and reached out her talon to shake him awake, before quickly pulling her arm back. Right, she thought, can't touch him.
Peril had sighed again. Sometimes she'd forgotten that she has firescales (that's what she calls her burning hot scales, pretty smart name, if you asked her). She despised not being able to touch anybody, but she shook the thoughts out of her head.
She picked up a small rock nearby, careful not to wake the other dragonets in the cave, and she tossed the rock at Clay, watching him wake up confused, and rub his head where the rock had hit him.
"Clay, you snail-brain, " Peril whispered to the mudwing, "Get back in your bed before Kestrel sees and gets mad again"
Kestrel was one of the guardians, meant to protect the dragonets of destiny, so that they could fulfill their 'prophecy' and stop the war. Peril didn't completely believe in the prophecy, but she stayed in the cave with the dragonets anyways, for her friends. No, she thought, only for Clay.
"Hey! Why'd you have to wake me up, i was dreaming about cows!" Clay exclaimed.
"Clay, you're always dreaming about cows, " Peril responded, "Now go back to sleep you big dummy."
Clay frowned, and turned back toward the stone ledge behind him that he'd been sleeping on. They heard a dragon step into the cave, and both quickly turned toward the entrance. Standing in the entrance was a large, scarred, upset sandwing. Dune.
"What are you two doing awake?!" Dune hissed, the poisonous stinger on the end of his tail poised above him like a scorpion.
Dune was the second guardian, who'd been assigned to watch over the dragonets with Kestrel, and a seawing named Webs. They were all mean to the dragonets, but at least it was Dune that found them, and not Kestrel.
Clay opened his mouth to speak, but Peril cut him off. "It was me, " She said, hoping Clay wouldn't get in trouble if she took the blame. "I woke him up, I'm sorry."
Dune frowned, lowering his tail. Hah, can't hurt me, can you? Peril thought scornfully.
"Whatever, just go back to sleep. If this happens again don't expect as much mercy." Dune growled toward the dragonets, before turning and leaving their room of the cave.
Peril and Clay both laid back down in their 'beds' (which were just stone ledges with a little bit of moss on them), and they both closed their eyes, drifting off into sleep once again.
