Work Text:

The line at Cuppa’s was nearly out the door when Sai arrived. Ordinarily, he would have ditched the coffee and gone to work, had some of the sludge they called coffee in the breakroom and made the most of his day transponstering. Sure, it wasn’t a word, but when he couldn’t explain what he did in a way that made sense to his friends, Christian had blurted that out as a joke, and the lads had gone with it. Imogen was working there today, though, and he’d had rugby last night and she had been asleep when he got home, so he wanted to say a quick hello, give her a kiss, and carry on with his day.

The man in front of him wasn’t moving with the line, and Sai tapped him on his shoulder to get his attention. He had places to be and people to kiss. He didn’t have time for a lad lost on his phone. When he didn’t respond immediately, Sai cleared his throat. The man started.

He turned, and Sai’s breath left him. Aquamarine eyes met his, and the strong jaw and cheekbones of a fair face framed by pale blonde hair and an embarrassed smile greeted him. The man’s thin lips curled on one side, and he looked at Sai questioningly before realising the line had moved. The man rushed out a “sorry” and turned, and Sai heard an accent he couldn’t place but which made him tingle.

Sai couldn’t form words. He stood stunned for a moment before hurrying forward. He was so lost in his thoughts that he bumped into the man and whispered his own “sorry.” As he pulled away from the stranger, he caught a glimpse of his phone and saw gay porn playing in a Twitter post.

“Oh,” Sai eked out, blushing as he stared at the image of a thick hairy man on his back being railed raw. Although he watched a lot of porn, Sai had never seen man-on-man specific scenes before, and his mind whirled with wonderings and connections. Why was the man watching porn in line at Cuppa’s? Is he gay? Is this what Nick does now that he’s bisexual? How does it feel? How do I find out? Can I find out with him? Do I want to be? Wait, I’m not gay. And I’m dating Imogen. Fuck.

In the midst of his thinking, he heard the stranger laugh as he tucked his phone away.

Sai felt heat rising in his cheeks, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean... It was just… unexpected.”

“It’s alright,” the man said. He moved forward slightly but kept his body turned towards Sai. The man raked his eyes over Sai, a flirty smirk on his face. Sai could feel his face burning red, but he couldn’t tell if it was due to embarrassment for being caught, shame at thinking about man-on-man sex, guilt over thinking of someone else besides Imogen, or arousal as he held the man’s gaze.

They kept looking at each other as they moved forward, and Sai fell alongside him.

“I’m Kian, by the way,” the man said, his accent more prominent. Sounded Irish. Kian. Sai felt his insides flip flopping and he shook slightly. Fuck. If his voice does this to me, what else could he do to me?

“Sai,” he replied. “That’s my name. Not me saying ‘sigh.’ Sigh. That is me saying it. Fuck. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry. It’s adorable,” Kian said, smiling. Sai felt his pulse race and his pits growing sweaty. He hadn’t felt like this since he met Imogen, and his reaction confused him. He looked from Kian to the floor to the counter, unsure of what to do. Kian returned to his phone, but his smile lingered.

Sai stole a peek at Kian’s phone, considering using it as a pathway to more conversation, and saw he was on Instagram now, no more porn. He felt a small tinge of sadness. Did the moment pass? Shit. Talking about his Insta would be silly. Besides, I have a girlfriend who is barely ten feet away. What are you doing, Sai?

The question hung in his mind. What was he doing? He flipped through memories in his mind, looking for common themes and motifs, trying to make sense of this moment. He’d snuggled with Christian occasionally during uni, but that was just mates being mates. He’d ogled Nick in the changing room, but how could he not when Nick swung a veritable club between his legs, so different from Sai’s own piece. It was just curiosity. He’d asked Imogen to play with his arsehole, but that was being an adventurous lover. He wasn’t gay. Couldn’t be. He loved everything about Imogen, especially the curve of her arse and the feel of her breasts in his hands as they fucked.

When Kian moved forward, Sai stayed put, determined to shake his doubts. His eyes fell to the floor, watching Kian’s feet move forward before travelling up the long, firm legs, admiring the calves that popped from his snug trousers. He kept going and gasped when he saw the two mounds of firm flesh in Kian’s seat. His jaw dropped open, and he watched as they bounced, one cheek to the next, little flexes that made his mouth water and his trousers tighten.

Kian turned and looked over his shoulder, clocking Sai’s eyes and smirking. “Like what you see?”

“I–” Sai stammered, but he knew his tenting gave him away.

“I do,” Kian said, turning to his side and inviting Sai to stand next to him again. They were nearly at the counter. “Come here.”

Sai stepped forward meekly, avoiding both the counter and Imogen and Kian’s eyes. He protested. “I’m not gay.”

“I’m not either. I’m bi, actually,” Kian said. “And I’d like to buy you a cup of coffee.”

Sai bit his lip, looked up and saw Imogen watching him with a cheeky smile on her face and an eyebrow raised. Do I dare disturb my universe? “Erm, yeah, alright.”
