Chapter 1: Parte Um

Chapter Text

Janis was feeling tired. Many of the teenagers at the party didn't talk to her or didn't like her, especially because of the rumors that she was a lesbian.

The only person she told was Regina, she trusted her best friend with her soul, Regina would never do anything to humiliate or expose her.

Janis knew that people found out through a drawing she made of the lesbian flag in her notebook in literature class. She wasn't ashamed of who she was, but all this judgment made her apprehensive about confirming the rumors to everyone.

A tap on the shoulder brought her out of her thoughts.

"Come on, let's play something!" - said a very excited Regina, tugging at her arms and dragging her away before she could answer anything. The blonde had always enjoyed parties and had a talent for drawing people's attention to herself. Janis got a little (she wouldn't admit that it wasn't little) jealous, sometimes she just wanted to have Regina all to herself.

"What are we playing?" Janis asked Regina, who had pulled her into a circle of teenagers sitting on the floor.

"What?" The blonde couldn't hear Janis over the loud music in the room.

"What's the game?" Janis had to speak in her ear. She didn't notice that the hairs on Regina's neck stood on end..

"Spin the bottle!" She said with a mischievous smile, then turned to assess the people in the circle.

Janis had to hide the shudder she felt at the thought of kissing a boy, but she didn't tell Regina because she didn't want to spoil the fun and she didn't want to get away from the blonde for the second time that evening, the first being when one of the popular boys (she couldn't remember his name) asked Regina to dance on the dance floor, leaving a sulking Janis in the corner of the kitchen.

After a few rounds of the game, it was Regina's turn to be on her right in the circle, her sweaty legs brushing against Janis' bare thighs.

All that happened after her slim fingers and manicured pink nails touched the bottle was a big blur in Janis' head.

She remembers when her oxygen seemed to run out when the bottle stopped in front of her. She remembers looking at Regina with a slightly frightened look. She remembers Regina's eyes on her, which seemed both loving and afraid. She remembers the whispers in the room about no one having the courage to kiss the "dyke". And she remembers very well the taste of Regina's lip gloss on her mouth.

It was a quick but firm kiss, enough to make Janis drunk with emotion and confused as to why the blonde had kissed her. She couldn't decipher Regina's gaze on her, but she didn't waste much time on it, muttering something about going to the bathroom and running out of the room.

Looking at her face, now wet with water, in the mirror of the dimly lit bathroom on the second floor (of the house of she doesn't know who?), she tries to organize her thoughts.

She knows she's always had a crush on Regina, they've been friends for years, how could she not? She was beautiful, funny, charismatic, stylish, intelligent... Janis could go on for hours about all the things she loved about Regina.

Couldn't she like her? Could she? Janis didn't want to be the lesbian friend who liked her straight friend, that would hurt both sides and risk their friendship. She knew that Regina didn't like her, but she still clung to the memories of the two of them watching movies together, of the glances that seemed so intimate, of the compliments Regina always made a point of giving Janis, making her blush, of Regina holding Janis' hand as they walked through the mall and the kisses on the cheek that took longer than usual.

But then she decides to get over it and pretend that nothing happened, as Regina probably did.

But when she goes downstairs and passes the door to the room where the prank is taking place. She sees the blonde kissing the boy who probably asked her to dance earlier, in a very warm way.

Janis can't help but feel a strong sense of jealousy and anger, and leaves the party.
