Work Text:
Kitty emerged from the bathroom, wearing her nurse outfit as she had been called into work that day. As she stepped into the hallway, she heard her twelve-year-old son, Eric, call out to her.
"Mom?"
Kitty paused and turned around, finding Eric staring at her with a mix of curiosity and something else...perhaps sadness? Her heart skipped a beat.
"Yes, sweetheart? Is everything okay? You seem a little down," she said, her voice filled with concern.
Eric hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Are you going to work today? I thought you had the day off."
Kitty nodded, a sad smile forming on her lips. "You're right, honey. I was supposed to have the day off, but they needed me at the hospital."
Eric's face fell, his disappointment evident. "Oh, okay."
Kitty felt her heart hurt. "I will be back later this evening though, sweetie."
"I know, I was just hoping that maybe we could do something fun together today."
Kitty felt a surge of sadness. Her little boy was growing up, and moments like these were becoming more precious. She had cherished their fun-filled activities when he was younger, and the thought of him still wanting to spend time with her warmed her heart.
"Oh, Eric, my dear," she said, closing the distance between them. "I'm so sorry I can't stay home today. I truly wish I could. But listen, next Saturday, I have the whole day off. We can have a fun day together. Just you and me."
Eric's face lit up with excitement. "Really? You promise?"
Kitty's smile widened as she wrapped her arms around him in a tight embrace. "I promise, my love. Next Saturday is all about us, having loads and loads of fun."
"Rise and shine, Eric! It's time to start our special day!" Kitty exclaimed cheerfully as she walked into Eric's room.
Eric groggily opened his eyes and squinted at his mom, who stood before him in her pink bathrobe, a wide smile on her face.
"Mom?" Eric mumbled, his voice filled with sleepiness. "What time is it?"
Kitty's excitement was contagious as she replied, "It's early, my love! It's 6:30 in the morning, and our day of adventures begins now!"
Eric stared at his mom, his surprise evident. "6:30? Are you serious?"
Kitty nodded, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. She couldn't contain her enthusiasm as she bounced up and down. "Absolutely! Today is our special day together, and we have so much planned!"
Eric's tiredness started to fade as he observed his mom's infectious excitement. "Yeah, but I thought we would do everything at a normal time."
Kitty waved off his concerns with a grin. "Nonsense! We need to seize the day and make the most of every moment. Now, let's get out of bed! Breakfast is all ready, and we have a whole day of fun ahead of us!"
Before Eric could utter another word, Kitty playfully pulled him out of bed, urging him to embrace the day with a smile.
Despite his initial tiredness, Eric couldn't help but smile.
"Mom, how long have you been up?" Eric asked curiously in the midst of their breakfast. Seeing the delicious spread before him, he knew his mom must have been up early to prepare it.
Kitty smiled warmly at her son. "Long enough to whip up this wonderful breakfast for us. I wanted to make sure our special day started off on a delicious note. Do you like it?"
Eric's face lit up as he took a bite of the food. "I love it, Mom! You're the best!"
Kitty's smile grew wider, and her eyes sparkled with joy. "I'm so glad, sweetheart. It makes me happy to see you enjoying it. Once we finish, we can get ready for our day filled with love and adventures."
Curiosity filled Eric's eyes as he asked, "Does Dad know about our plans?"
Kitty nodded, her expression filled with warmth. "He does, my love. But today is all about you and me. He'll be staying here, relaxing, and I've prepared his breakfast in the fridge so he can heat it up whenever he wakes up. By then, we'll already be out of the house."
Eric's smile widened, and he felt a surge of excitement. "Mom?"
"Yes, sweetie?" Kitty replied, her voice filled with love.
"I'm finished with my breakfast," Eric announced, a big grin on his face.
Kitty laughed happily. "Great! You can go get ready, and I'll finish up my breakfast and then get ready myself. We have an amazing day ahead of us, my dear."
With that, Eric hurried out of the room, his heart brimming with anticipation. Kitty watched him go, her heart filled with love and gratitude for this precious time she had with her son.
"You ready to go, sweetheart?" Kitty beamed with joy as she saw Eric descending the stairs.
"I am, Mom!" Eric exclaimed, his excitement evident in his voice. "What's our first adventure?"
Kitty's eyes twinkled mischievously. "It's a surprise, my love, but I promise you're going to absolutely love it."
She reached out her hand, and Eric eagerly took it. With a gentle squeeze, Kitty guided her son out of the house and into a day filled with endless possibilities and unforgettable adventures.
The first stop on their special day, or as Kitty had secretly dubbed it, "Spoil Eric Day," was the toy store. As they stepped out of the car, Eric's eyes widened with excitement.
"The toy store?" Eric gasped, barely containing his enthusiasm.
Kitty nodded, her eyes sparkling with delight. "Yes, sweetie. I know how much you adore your figurines, so I thought it would be perfect to add some more to your collection."
A mixture of joy and apprehension flickered in Eric's eyes. "But Dad doesn't like me having figurines. He calls them dolls," he confessed, his gaze shifting away from his mother's face.
Kitty's expression turned determined. "Well, your father isn't here right now, and even if he was, I wouldn't let him stop you from pursuing what brings you joy. There's nothing wrong with owning figurines, my dear."
A smile slowly spread across Eric's face, and he embraced his mother tightly. "Thank you, Mom."
Kitty hugged him back, her love enveloping him. "You're welcome, Eric. Now come on, let's go inside and find the perfect figurine for you."
Hand in hand, they walked into the store, Eric's eyes gleaming with anticipation. As they entered, his gaze immediately gravitated towards the display of Star Trek figurines.
"Mom, look!" Eric exclaimed, tugging her excitedly towards the collection.
Kitty giggled, her heart swelling with pride for her son's enthusiasm. "They do look cool, don't they?"
Eric nodded vigorously. "They're amazing! Can I get one, Mom?"
Kitty smiled warmly. "Of course, my love. You can choose the one you want the most."
Eagerly, Eric scanned the selection, his eyes lighting up with each figurine he spotted. Finally, he pointed to the tallest one. "This one, Mom! It's perfect!"
Kitty's smile widened as she admired Eric's choice. "Excellent decision! Let's go check out!"
Their next stop on their adventure was the music store. As they walked through the door, Eric couldn't contain his excitement.
"Are you going to buy me a tape?" Eric asked, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Kitty grinned and nodded. "Absolutely! But guess what? I have a surprise for you. I spoke to the store owner a few days ago, and you know what he said?"
"What?" Eric asked, his curiosity piqued.
"We get to spend a whole hour here, sweetie," Kitty announced, her voice filled with joy. "You can listen to whatever music you want!"
Eric's eyes widened in awe. "Really? An entire hour?"
Kitty nodded, her smile growing wider. "Yes, really! Today is all about you, Eric, and I want to make sure we make the most of it."
And so, for the next hour, Eric and Kitty immersed themselves in the world of music. They explored the aisles together, listening to all the rock music that Eric desired. While Kitty may not have shared the same passion for rock music, she gladly embraced it for her son's sake. Seeing the joy radiating from his face made every moment worth it.
They laughed, they sang along, and they discovered new songs together.
As the hour drew to a close, Kitty and Eric left the store, Eric clutching a newly purchased tape in his hand. Gratitude filled his voice as he spoke.
"Thank you for buying the tape, Mom," Eric said, his eyes shining with appreciation.
Kitty wrapped her arm around him, pulling him close. "You're welcome, sweetheart. Now, we have some time left before our next stop. How about we take a leisurely drive around town?"
Eric beamed with excitement. "Sure, Mom! I love spending time with you."
After a delightful hour of driving around town, Kitty and Eric arrived at their next destination.
"The theater?" Eric exclaimed, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Are we going to watch a movie?"
Kitty nodded, her eyes twinkling with excitement. "Not just one movie, dear. We're going to watch two movies!"
Eric's eyes widened in disbelief. "Two movies? Really?"
Kitty chuckled, relishing in her son's reaction. "Yep! Two movies!"
Unable to contain his joy, Eric enveloped his mother in a tight hug. "Thank you so much, Mom!"
Kitty returned the embrace, her heart overflowing with love. "You're welcome, sweetheart. It's my pleasure to make this day extra special for you."
Releasing each other, they made their way to the theater entrance, anticipation building with every step. Kitty purchased the tickets, ensuring they had the perfect seats for their movie marathon.
As they settled into their seats for the first movie, Eric turned to Kitty with a mixture of curiosity and excitement. "What's the first movie about, Mom?"
"It's a bit serious, but I know you enjoy stories like that. I think you'll find it quite intriguing."
Eric nodded, his eyes shining with anticipation. "I'm excited to see it!"
The lights dimmed, and they both became completely absorbed in the captivating story unfolding on the screen.
After the first movie concluded, Kitty turned to Eric, a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Ready for some laughter, my dear? The second movie is a comedy!"
Eric's face lit up with delight. "I love comedies!"
Kitty grinned, her heart swelling with joy. "And guess what? We'll be enjoying lunch during this movie!"
Eric's eyes widened with surprise. "Seriously? That's awesome!"
After getting their lunch, they settled in for the second movie. The theater filled with laughter as the comedic scenes played out on the screen. They shared in the infectious mirth, struggling to contain their amusement and their delicious lunch at the same time.
Every now and then, Kitty stole a glance at Eric, her heart melting at the sight of his radiant smile. She leaned closer, whispering softly, "Are you having a good time, Eric?"
Eric turned to her, his eyes sparkling. "I am, Mom. This is the best day ever!"
Kitty's heart swelled with happiness.
As they exited the theater, Kitty and Eric discarded their trash and began strolling side by side.
Turning to her son, Kitty inquired with a twinkle in her eye, "Did you enjoy the movies, dear?"
Eric beamed at her, his face glowing with satisfaction. "I absolutely loved them, Mom! They were both fantastic!"
Kitty chuckled, her heart swelling with delight. She reached into her pocket, retrieving a cigarette and lighting it. Taking a long drag, she exhaled slowly, relishing the moment. "I'm so glad you had a great time, sweetheart."
Eric watched his mother smoke, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Today has been wonderful, Mom," he confessed, his voice filled with gratitude. "I wish it could last forever."
Kitty took another drag of her cigarette, a wistful smile gracing her lips. "Oh, honey, I feel the same way. However, have one more surprise activity in store for you."
Curiosity ignited in Eric's eyes. "What is it, Mom? Please, tell me!"
Kitty playfully tapped her finger against her lips, savoring the suspense. "Hmm... I think I'll keep it a secret for now," she teased, a mischievous glimmer in her eyes.
Eric couldn't resist joining in the playful banter. "But Mom, you know I don't like surprises. Please, just give me a little hint?"
Kitty leaned in closer to Eric, her voice filled with anticipation. "Alright, my love. Here's a small hint... We're going to play a sport. And it's a sport that I know you'll actually enjoy. How does that sound?"
A smile of excitement spread across Eric's face as he nodded eagerly. "That sounds like a lot of fun! But I don't think there is a sport that I like."
Kitty placed a comforting hand on his shoulder, her eyes sparkling with confidence. "Trust me, sweetheart. This sport is different. I have a feeling you're going to love it."
"Welcome to the bowling alley!" Kitty exclaimed happily as they stepped inside.
Eric's eyes widened with excitement as he took in the vibrant atmosphere. "Wow, Mom, this place looks so cool!"
Kitty beamed with pride. "It really is, sweetheart. And the best part is, unlike other sports, you don't have to worry about getting hurt, running, or anything else you don't enjoy."
Eric's face lit up even more upon hearing his mother's words, causing Kitty to giggle at his enthusiasm. "Are you ready to have a blast bowling, sweetie?"
Eric nodded eagerly. "I sure am, Mom!"
And so, the two of them embarked on a fun-filled game of bowling. Despite it being Eric's first time, he surprised both Kitty and himself with his natural talent. He turned out to be quite the bowler, even outshining Kitty, who intentionally let him take the spotlight.
With a proud smile, Kitty applauded as Eric skillfully rolled the ball down the lane, knocking down the remaining pins. "Good job, sweetie! You're a natural!"
Eric beamed at his mother's praise. He opened his mouth to respond, but their joyful moment was interrupted by laughter coming from a few lanes away.
Curiosity piqued, Kitty and Eric turned their heads to see a group of adults chuckling and pointing in their direction.
Kitty's protective instincts kicked in, and she narrowed her eyes at them. "Is something funny?" she challenged, her tone daring.
One of the adults, still giggling, replied, "Nah, just enjoying the show. It's cute, you know, a mother and son bonding like this."
Kitty's grip on the bowling ball tightened, but she didn't want to engage with the intoxicated strangers for too long. She shot them a pointed look and said firmly, "There's nothing funny about a mother and son enjoying quality time together. So if I were you, I'd mind your own business."
The adults mumbled among themselves but eventually turned away, which brought a sense of relief to Kitty. She turned back to Eric and apologized, "Sorry about that, sweetheart. Let's just focus on our game, shall we?"
Thinking they had dealt with the interference, Kitty and Eric continued bowling in peace. It wasn't until Eric emerged victorious, winning the game, that the group of drunk adults became a problem again.
"You did it, Eric! You're the winner!" Kitty joyfully announced, her arms wide open to embrace her son. However, her gesture was halted by the sound of the adults' laughter once more.
"Oh, look at mommy hugging her little baby," one of them snickered.
Kitty's gaze hardened as she turned her attention to the group. She crossed her arms and spoke with authority, "I thought I told you all to mind your own business."
"We don't have to listen to you, lady," another replied, a smug smile playing on his face.
Sensing Eric's tension beside her, Kitty quickly intervened, placing a calming hand on his shoulder. She looked at the group of intoxicated adults and chuckled, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "You think you're so clever, acting like immature children. Well, guess what? I can be just as funny and immature."
With those words, Kitty turned around, her frontside facing Eric, and with her backside to the drunk adults, she playfully dropped her pants and bent over, exposing her bare butt to their astonished gazes.
"Mom!" Eric exclaimed in shock, though Kitty could detect the amusement in his voice.
"Eww!" The drunk adults collectively expressed their disgust, clearly not expecting to be mooned by someone they had been taunting.
Satisfied with their reaction, Kitty pulled her pants back up and turned around to face the adults, who looked both shocked and repulsed.
Giggling mischievously, she taunted, "Have a lovely evening."
And with that, Kitty led Eric out of the bowling alley, giggling along with him.
"Did you have a good time bowling, sweetheart?" Kitty asked with a smile as they drove home.
"I had an amazing time, Mom!" Eric replied, his eyes sparkling with joy. "And that mooning moment was epic! You're the coolest mom ever!"
Kitty chuckled, her heart swelling with love for her son. "Well, sometimes you have to stand up to rude people by giving them a taste of their own medicine. But let's keep it our little secret, okay? Your father doesn't need to know about it."
Eric nodded eagerly. "Absolutely, Mom. It'll be our secret."
As they arrived home, Kitty turned off the engine and turned to face Eric. "Today was truly special, honey. I'm so happy you had a great time."
Eric beamed at her. "Can we do it again soon?"
Kitty's face lit up with excitement. "Of course, sweetheart! We'll plan another special day just for the two of us."
She leaned in and planted a tender kiss on Eric's forehead. "I love you more than words can express, Eric."
"I love you too, Mom," Eric replied, wrapping his arms around her in a warm embrace.
Kitty squeezed him tightly. Today had been such a fun day, and she couldn't wait to have another fun day with her sweet, precious son.
