Monkey man

Summary:

Jane finds her soulmate.

Work Text:

Jane often stared at her soulmark wondering what it could mean. It was pretty in a way a gorilla handprint with a small babes hand outlined inside. She knew it was a gorilla print, because her father had taken up studying all kinds of primates until he found the one to match her mark. Sometimes in the dead of night she wondered what her monkey man was like. Did he have a wild side? Was he one of those people who explored the great unknown. Would he let her follow him while he did? In the end she just hoped her let her keep studying, because the older girls in school kept telling her their soulmates were making them leave school to care for the house. She didn't think she would like that at all.

When her father took her to the jungle her wondered if her soulmate would find her here. All the other girls her age had found theirs or had to marry someone who didn't have their mark. She was glad her father wouldn't do that to her. She wandered the jungle on her own looking for something to draw, or any hint of people, when she was saved by him. She knew right away that he was her soulmate. Her monkey man literally. The thought made her giggle, and he tilted her head watching her.

Teaching him was wonderful. He listened to her and seemed to truly care about what she was saying. He was nothing like any man she had ever met. She couldn't wait until they could talk about their matching marks. She didn't know what his mark, but she was sure that it was for her. He was the only person her mark could be pointing to, and even if he didn't grow up in her world she was sure he would understand their connection. At least she hoped he would.

After the nightmare that was Clinton she kissed Tarzan, and chose to stay with him. He didn't really understand soulmates yet, but that didn't matter. She loved him. Even if he never understood what they were they could still love each other, and maybe in a few years he would understand. He loved her and hadn't asked that she give up the things she loved. Really that was all that mattered.
