Chapter Text

The sound of screaming roused Harvest from their doze, they lifted their head up to glare at the door beside them, Bloody stops purring to roll his head onto Harvest's back, ears flat at the noise. The kits loud uncontrolled sobs filter though the door, Harvest yawns and smells Bloody's irritation in the air. A light down the hall flickers on, Harvest urges their kin to get up before the larger human tramples them in order to get to his kit. Bloody gets up with a low lazy sigh and scratches the floor in his wake before he trods down the hallway. Harvest sits up beside the door and watches as the one handed human throws the door open and rushes in.

Harvest watches as the larger human (yes they know the two are named Foxy and FC, but they dont smell like a Foxy and FC) collects the kit into his arms and murmurs soft words into the little ones ear as it sobs, clinging to the human like a life line. They watch the human walk around the room in a slow fashion, rubbing the kits head with his only hand. The air is filled with fear and sadness, Harvest tilts their head as they try to pull apart the mingling scents. The big one is sad, they finally decide, the small one is scared.

Of course the small one was scared, Harvest couldn't imagine sleeping away from their twin, why the human intended to keep them separate was beyond them. They flicked their tail in mild irritation and groomed their side, now that they thought about it, Bloody was due for a bath soon. The younger reeked of dead birds and mice, which wasn't normally a bad thing, but it was weeks old at this point and the human was bound to notice soon.

Spoil sport, but at least Harvest would be able to keep the two of them from another tiny lake dunking. Seriously, why would any creature want to keep a small version of those wretched places inside their den? Other than dogs, but the kit seemed to like it so perhaps it wasn't all bad. Harvest looked up from their bath, watched the two humans exit the room, and walk down the hall. The kit was still clearly upset as it pressed its flat face into its caretakers neck. Harvest went back to their bath as the other door clicked shut.

They paused again as the door reopened and the bigger human walked back to the kits room and grabbed one of its softer playthings. He paused and looked at Harvest, "You and your brother wanna come to my room?" Harvest didn't bother offering a meow to that, the human knew what their answer was going to be. The human huffed and tried scratching Harvest's ear, they hissed and crawled back, furr fluffed and tail stiff. How dare he try and touch them! It was bad enough everything in this den reeked of human, they didn't need his sent rubbing off on them more!

The human snorted and sat back up, "figured, don't scratch up my stuff, kay?" Harvest growed again and kept their body low, the human shook his head and went back to his den, door shutting behind him. Well now Hrvest wanted to scratch the human's things on purpose. Harvest huffed and yawned, deeming themself much to tired to do any rough play or object destroying they set off to go find their kin.

...

Jack jumped up excitedly as Lunar opened his door, his friend was wearing shorts and tank top, that meant they were going for a run! Ooooh Jack loved going for runs! It was like- the best thing in the world! Jack rushed around Lunars legs as the 16 year old walked around the couch, "I know, I know, you're excited" Lunar said, he was!

Jack was very excited! He was sooo ready! Come on come on! Jack trotted around Lunar and pushed his head between his human's legs, Lunar yelped and quickly swung his leg off of Jack giggling at his antics.

What was Lunar waiting for? They had to go! They had to go right now so Jack could say hi to the little dog down the street oooh! And mark his territory again! He had to freshen up his markers again!

Jack whined as Lunar pulled his collars and leash down from the rack, "Jack sit!" Jack sat, tail thumping against the wall as Lunar pulled his fist to his chest, Jack's nose twitched, OH! Lunar had the tiny goodies! His human was the best! He was he was he was!

Jack tilted his head up for Lunar to push the first collar over his head and onto his neck, then he clipped the second collar on and it took all of Jack's will to stay sitting. Come on... Lunar clipped the leash on and sat back up, staring at Jack, Jack whined again and stared at Lunars clenched hand. Come on!

Lunar smiled and tossed the treat in the air, "good boy!" Jack eagerly caught the treat in his mouth and ate it quickly. He was a good boy! He was he was he was! Lunar stuffed the rest of the treats in his pocket and placed his hand on the door, giving Jck a firm 'wait' as he stepped outside first, Jack stood still and stared at his friend.

"OK!" Jack rushed out, Lunar slammed the door, and the two were off.

Did Jack mention he loved morning runs? Because he does.

Jack panted as he jogged by Lunars side, the cool morning air brushed against is fur gently as they rounded the corner. the little dog at the corner barked at them and Jack wagged his tail happily as Lunar tugged him along gently. The tiny friend ran with them until his patch of yard ended, their big human friend yelled at them to stop and yelled his apologies to Lunar and Jack like he did every morning. Jack wanted to say hello, but he knew that would make Lunar sad so he panted and ran by Lunars side.

Once they made it to the park, Lunar pulled out Jack's collapsible bowl from his bag and set it on the ground, he dumped half of his water into the bowl and Jack drank it eagerly as Lunar plopped to the ground. The two sat in silence for a moment as they both drank.

Lunar got up again and let Jack get his fill before he grabbed the bowl and dumped it out before he stuffed it back in his bag.

"Alright, you wanna head to the lake?" Lunar asked, voice increasing n pitch at the last word. Jack barked softly and watched Lunar dig out his water ball and pointed at the big patch of water, the morning sunlight glittered off of the water. Wait- Lunar was gonna let him get wet? Oh boy! this day was getting better and better!

Jack barked and whined as he waited for Lunar to unclip his leash, he waited, tail wagging as he pranced in place. This was the best day EVER!

Still. He had to stay very still. Bloody hunkered down and watched the unassuming squirrel, dart through the grass, cheeks full of seeds from the bird feeder. He inched closer slowly, tail low to the ground and rocked his weightfrom foot to foot. Easy as- "SQUIRREL!" Bloody twisted his head insurprise as the human kit ran over, wooden sword in hand and toy hook in the other. The squirrel darted up the tree and Bloody was left with an annoying kit who didn't know how to hunt.

Bloody was fairly certain that without the kits big human, he would starve to death, perhaps that would make Bloody's life easier. The dark orange tom flicked his ear, annoyed at the turn of events. The big human needed to either teach his kit how to hunt or keep it inside where he wouldn't get eaten by something bigger. Though, the fence around the back yard was great at keeping the annoyance in Bloody's sight.

He didn't want the kit disappearing again. The human reeked of sadness and despair the whole time the kit was gone. He often wasn't home and inatead of him feeding and changing the dirt box, it was an alarmingly slender pale faced human who was intent with becoming friends with Bloody and his kin.

Gross.

Bloody watched the kit prance around the tree, dark red hair framing light brown skin and a large smattering of freckles on his nose and cheeks. His tail twitched as he glanced back at his kin, hoping for some form of sympathy, Harvest was calmly ignoring them, stretched out on the pavement and directly in the sunlight.

Bloody, very fruatrated that his prey was lost, grumpily groomed himself as he listened to the kits screeching. Some kin Harvest was.

A new sent assaulted his nose, Bloody paused and sniffed the air then galnced at Harvest. No, the big human wouldn't do this to them again... not again.

The kit paused in his play to stare at the opening side gate, a grin split across his face as he ran across the yard, "JACKIE! AUNTIE MONTY!"

Blooody looked over at his twin for help, but the back door cat flap was swinging and his twin gone.

Bloody stared in horror as the large german shepard ran into the yard, sniffing and nudging the kit as he squealed in delight.

Bloody ran into the den, squirrel forgotten.
