Work Text:
"Miss Damian," The Waynes' butler Alfred said with a polite but refined tone. "I believe it is time for you and your guest to prepare for this evening's engagements."
The two teenaged youths sighed, expressing their disgust, and turned off the game console they had just been playing, their few hours of gaming now coming to an end after being in the living room for so long.
Damian then crossed her arms and started to walk towards her room complaining, "I do not see why I have to attend such an event tonight."
The loyal butler raised an eyebrow.
"This is the biggest party of the year Miss Damian it is only customary for all the available members of the family to be at such a party, especially given how it's going to be celebrating your ancestors."
Jon then added in agreement, "It is Wayne Enterprises' one hundred and fortieth anniversary gala after all, can't celebrate it without the Waynes can you?"
"Tt," The green eyed girl bit out unhappy, once again being told she can't skip the big event tonight. "I suppose not."
As mentioned before it was Wayne Enterprises' 140th Anniversary Gala to celebrate the company's success, something Damian had been dreading all day. Just thinking about it and all the people that were going to be there gave the girl a headache, galas like this always never ending and full of fakes.
Tonight was going to be the thirteen year old's first time officially attending such an event.
The first two times she was scheduled to go things had popped up and she was either not even listed as a member of the family yet, or not in the country due to business regarding the League of Assassins. Both were definitely not the best of times for her to make it to the large scale party so she was given a free pass to skip.
Usually it wouldn't bother the girl so much to attend but this was the first time she was going to be present at this gala, the most important one of the whole year.
Damian knew failure was not an option, and if she did fail she knew it would tarnish Wayne's name, and probably disappoint her father.
So with that thought floating around her mind she was definitely not excited for the event tonight, even if she was going to have someone she usually didn't have around tonight to suffer with her.
Slowly following the duo of young teens upstairs Alfred continued to reason with the youngest Wayne, "It will not be so bad young miss. I bet young Jon here will keep you plenty of company to keep you occupied during the gala."
Finally arriving at the thirteen year old's bedroom the raven haired boy smiled brightly from his best friend's side.
"Yeah, even though it will be my first time to even be going to such a fancy party I'll be sure to keep you company don't worry D."
Damian looked at the younger and knew his words were genuine so in response she couldn't help but let out a tired sigh, opening the door to her room saying, "Then I shall expect you to stay true to your word Kent."
Just as Jon was going to enter the room and follow the green eyed girl, as well as the conversation, the door closed with a click, not giving him enough time to stop before he hit his head against the solid wood.
A sudden wave of confusion then washed over the half alien as he tried to comprehend why the girl had done what she did, trying to question the older before he was briefly cut off.
"Damian why did-"
"Ahem," Alfred coughed into his fist as he shifted the raven haired boy's attention over to him, away from Damian room. "This way young man, your suit is in the room just down the hall."
Jon blushed a deep red all the way to the tips of his ear.
Even if it wasn't intentional he was about to try and barge into the girl's room to ask why she had just closed the door on him, how had he forgotten that they were supposed to be getting ready? What if he had opened the door by accident?
He was so mindless sometimes.
In a fit of panic, the raven haired boy apologized and sprinted down the hallway.
"S-sorry D I didn't mean... It w-was an accident- Sorry!"
As the boy ran off a grin played on the corners of Alfred's lips, shaking his head as he watched the scene.
...
It had been almost an hour since they had to get ready and Damian still hadn't come out of her room.
As much as time went the green eyed girl thought she was making good time, tons of other girls would take even triple the time it took her to get ready for a party, she was being rather fast by a lot of other people's standards.
Almost didn't mean everyone though, Jon was wondering what was taking so long after standing in the hall for about half that time.
The younger hadn't said anything yet but the thirteen year old knew he was there waiting for her.
Being trained to pick up on the slightest of sounds and movements she knew he was behind the door patiently waiting to escort the youngest Wayne to the party, the perfect gentleman like his mom had taught him.
"I apologize Kent," The green eyed girl said through the door as she squeezed the doorknob tightly, slightly guilty for making the younger wait so long for her. "I was having second thoughts about this particular outfit's color."
Jon then waved the shorter off as the door began to open, "Don't worry about it my mom-"
Before he could continue the raven haired boy was dazed by what his eyes saw.
"It looks hideous does it not?" Damian assumed with a calm voice, quickly studying the younger's reaction as something not good.
The half alien quickly shook his head in protest.
"No, not at all. You look uhhh... you look..."
The thirteen year old narrowed her eyes asking, "Ugly?"
"Beautiful."
Damian's eyes went wide, she had never expected that kind of answer. Maybe ok or not bad, but definitely not that, she had never been called beautiful by anyone. It could have just been her imagination but the thirteen year old thought she felt a fuzzy feeling in her stomach for a second there.
"I-I mean," Jon said embarrassed, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly trying to get his mouth to move faster than he could get the words out. "You l-look really p-pretty, great- green really is your color, anybody ever t-told you that?"
The green eyed girl felt her cheeks heat up and she turned to close the door.
If Jon had liked the dress so much it would be fine to wear to this event Damian told herself, no other reason.
In reality the dress did complement the youngest Wayne's complexion very well, the emerald green dress going nicely with her green eyes as it shimmered under the light, short sleeved and covered in lace it gave the girl a youthful but elegant look. But the dress wasn't the only thing that accentuated the green eyed girl's appearance she also had a matching emerald pin holding half her hair and short green block heels on her feet to complete the look.
A few seconds passed after Damian closed her door prompting the raven haired boy to ask, "So are you not going to change?"
"This is adequate." The thirteen year old shot back quickly, effectively brushing his question aside.
Before the younger could ask anything else the green eyed girl looked at the other's outfit and properly examined it.
Jon was wearing a dark blue two piece suit with a white undershirt underneath along with black dress shoes and a deep red necktie hung around his shoulders untied, the twelve year old's hair looking as if it had been attempted to be brushed with small success as it still stuck up in some places.
Over all Damian had to admit the raven haired boy looked pretty nice all cleaned up like this, she would never tell him this of course but still.
"Why have you not put on your tie," The shorter of the two asked in an even tone, not mad just curious as her face remained neutral. "Have you decided to make a fashion statement?"
The younger laughed lightly and held up one end of the tie.
"Haha... I never learned how to tie a tie my mom or dad usually did it for me for school, I guess I just have to wait till I find my dad to do it."
Damian clicked her tongue and reached for both ends of the tie around her best friend's neck, wordlessly proceeding to perform a Balthus knot under his collar and around the younger's neck.
The knot wasn't your common half Windsor or Windsor it was a knot slightly more sophisticated and classy, one bigger and more intricate.
The green eyed girl knew plenty of ways to tie a tie, she had to do it for her school uniform. Tying a tie was child play compared to everything else when she had to do it in the league, not given much choice when her learning curriculum had to involve much of the arts and higher society.
Jon swiftly looked at Damian's face before turning away with a light pink dusting his ears.
When the youngest Wayne was finished she gave an approving nod and stepped away to look at her work saying, "That should be acceptable for the gala."
"You think so?" The half alien said kindly as he smiled.
"Yes."
Jon then added slyly, "Not bad for a farm boy?"
Damian could only smirk in response as she repeated.
"Not bad for a farm boy."
The raven haired boy's face then changed into something the girl couldn't read properly as he stepped forward and stretched his hand out towards her head.
"You got a piece of fuzz right here," Jon said sweetly as he tenderly picked it out of her hair, not noticing how close he had gotten in the pursuit of the small spec. "Sorry I didn't mean to scare you like that D."
As the twelve year old now looked down he realized how close he was to the older girl, Damian's face a mere fingertip away from the boy as he stared into green eyes.
"I was not scared Kent, you are not scary even when you attempt to be." Damian blurted out as red stained her cheeks, swiftly taking a step back and crossing her arms.
Before a response followed a new voice entered the conversation as he couldn't hold himself back from the scene any longer.
"You guys are so cute! You guys look like you are already going to homecoming."
At the mere implication of them acting married both teens immediately protested and turned to find Dick recording them with his phone.
"We are not cute Grayson!"
"Stop messing with us Dick!"
The twenty seven year old couldn't help but smile at the two as he finally stopped videoing from around the corner, already being dressed in his suit and tie for a while now. He was originally just going to tell the two young teens that they would have to leave soon but soon stayed to witness the two's interactions.
Dick put his phone away and patted both the younger's heads saying, "You guys can deny it all you want but you are going to be an adorable couple together."
Damian and Jon blushed at that and turned their heads away denying the opinion.
"Hey guys," Tim said loudly as he came walking down the hallway towards the group, glancing around trying to figure out what was going on before unlimitedly giving up and not caring. "Alfred said we got to leave now so I came to get you all, what were you guys up to?"
No one gave any response so Dick spoke up saying, "Nothing Timbo just some small talk about the future."
The nineteen year old nodded skeptically.
"Sure you were."
An Hour Later
When the Waynes and Kents all arrived at the gala they were all quickly swept away by the announcer to finally let the party start with their guests of honor there.
It was a pain to the group to have to wait and be put on the spot tonight, but having the name that the gala was celebrating left little choice to avoid such a thing, that and the mandatory first dance the family had to perform at the beginning of every anniversary gala.
Trying to keep out of the way till things kicked off both young teens waited at the top of the stairs near the entrance of the party, glancing at down as they sat and watched people pass them by without a care.
The celebration was one of the biggest parties of the year so every time it was held someplace different in the city, tonight the location was the rooftop of one of the tallest buildings in all of Gotham, complete with a full dance floor and garden area. It was the epitome of a party in high society held by the richest family in the area.
But with it also came the pressures of people who lived this lifestyle.
Damian could see a group of teens around her age all gossiping on the side of the dance floor, not caring for anything or anyone who tried to make contact with them. Teenagers always had a different air about them when it came to these events.
"So uhh who is going to be your first dance tonight," Jon asked curiously, not meeting eyes with the older girl as he straightened his fake glasses out. "Not that I care or anything... I just heard from your brother that since it's your first time at the gala you have to dance at least once for the public."
"I am going to be dancing with my father to finally start this stupid gala if that is what you are asking." Damian said easily, not noticing how the younger looked a bit relieved when she said that.
"Oh, that's nice." The raven haired boy added with a small grin.
The green eyed girl then crossed her arms asking, "What about you Kent are you going to be dancing with anybody here? There are plenty of dance partners if you so wish to."
Jon gave a sincere smile and turned and met eyes with Damian.
"I promised that I would keep you company tonight so that's what I'm going to do, you can't get rid of me that easily."
The older girl let out a weak sigh as her expression softened saying, "I suppose it was worth a try."
"Hey kiddos," Clark said happily as he joined the two young teens, putting a hand on his son's shoulder as he looked down at the duo. "Bruce said that he needed Damian for the entrance ceremony, then after that the party can get started."
Clark was the whole reason that Jon had been able to come to the party at all.
The Daily Planet had been assigned to have someone come to Gotham and cover the huge party for the night, several business owners from Metropolis were scheduled to attend so it was only natural that Clark Kent go since he was personally friends with the resident millionaire hosting the party, his child being able to go was just one of the perks of his job. But mainly Jon was there because Lois was not in town during the event so it left no one to watch the twelve year old at home all night, leaving little options than to bring him along.
Damian nodded in understanding and then quickly said her goodbyes.
"Thank you for informing me Kent I shall go to him now."
With that the youngest Wayne was gone with little time to say anything back as she sped off, her mindset thinking the quicker this got done the quicker the night could be over and she could leave.
...
A few minutes later the announcement went out to all the people attending the party as both father and daughter ascended down the stairs.
"Now that our guests of the hour have arrived we will now commence the first dance of the evening consisting of Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne!"
Applause erupted from all around the roof as the duo made their way down to the dance floor, small smiles and judgy looks came from all angles to gawk at the richest family as they came down the stairs, the visual of the pair making many people envious of how the two's stunning looks appeared together.
Tons of people had already witnessed the charm of Bruce in both looks and personality but his daughter had inherited both as well even from this young age, to put them together all dressed up was like they were stars from their own movie premiere coming down the red carpet and walking to the center of the dance floor, having all eyes on them as they took each other in hand.
"I'll lead." Bruce said quietly as he carefully took the younger's hand and the small of her back, knowing that probably behind her brave face she was scared of messing up in front of all these people.
It was unsaid but Damian was glad for her father's attempt to calm her nerves for the dance they were about to engage in, her posture relaxing slightly and letting the older lead without protest.
The two glided crossed the room when the music began and both kept neutral expressions on their faces.
As they danced mummers could be heard bouncing around the rooftop as many commented on father daughter being the prime example of the perfect waltz, every movement and position perfectly attuned to the rhythm of the orchestra.
While this was going on Clark, Dick, Tim, and Jon were all watching the dance at the top of the stairs.
The oldest of the group just admiring the elegant movements of the father and daughter's dance while the three younger ones stood a little farther to the side quietly communicating amongst themselves.
Jon's eyes never left Damian and Bruce as he wordlessly stood there as if in a focused trance.
Noticing this fact Dick motioned his head towards the raven haired boy between both him and Tim, effectively getting the nineteen year old’s attention as his eyes gleamed mischievously.
Tim then looked over at Jon's face after finally having enough of his older brother bothering him about it and glanced back up to see Dick look at him with a knowing look, the nineteen year old knew that his brother shipped it but could he please stop annoying him in the process.
With the roll of his eye Tim looked away and shook his head, whatever Dick, the second youngest Wayne didn't need to know what he already knew.
When the younger finally looked back at the dance floor the music finally came to an end and the pair politely bowed to the other for the dance.
The Wayne anniversary gala had finally begun.
...
It had only been a few minutes since the dance ended but Damian already wanted to leave and go back home and play games with Jon.
Honestly she hated having to socialize with people her age at these parties, they lived in a completely different world than her. Sure she had trained to blend in any environment and cover but being forced to interact with them was a different matter.
Damian sighed to herself muttering, "Tt. Stupid Todd."
"Why are you mad at Jason?" Jon asked as he appeared behind the older girl, swiftly coming down to find her after the dance ended.
The thirteen year old crossed her.
"Because he got to skip this insufferable party with Pennyworth and go on patrol."
It was true, Jason got to skip the whole thing altogether since he was technically presumed "dead" in the eyes of many in this city, bringing him back to public view would only create more problems. That said the vigilante usually got a free pass and never had to attend any galas unless necessary under an alias.
"Oh..." Jon replied back weakly.
"Now you see how unfair it is," Damian said with a huff uncrossing her arms, calming down slightly after seeing a group of teens eyeing them from a distance. "I had no choice but to come to this event and have to deal with those imbeciles over there."
The younger boy looked at his best friend's face with a slight glare saying, "They're not imbeciles Damian they're kids our age. Don't be so harsh when you haven't even met them."
The green eyed girl narrowed her eyes.
"Fine then let us go meet them if you are so keen on them."
Both Damian and Jon then walked over to the group of teens of various ages and everyone introduced themselves briefly, getting along perfectly fine as the range of conversation topics varied.
"Hello I am Damian Wayne and this is my friend Jonathan Kent."
The blonde haired boy closest to the front of the group stuck out his hand saying, "A pleasure. My name is Samuel Stevenson and this is my girlfriend Julie Black."
A girl with red hair and blue eyes stepped forward and gave a small wave.
After the two the rest of the group followed and soon they all got back to chatting with who they were before, some joining the two newcomers after a few finishing words with their companions and others just sticking with who they were talking to.
Everything was going well until the older girl stepped away for a second with Black to grab a drink, leaving both boys to talk to each other alone.
Making conversation on their journey to the refreshment table the redhead curiously asked Damian, "So how long have you and your boyfriend been together?"
The thirteen year old scowled before replying.
"He is not my boyfriend."
"Ah so you don't like labels I get that," Black said with a nod, as if she understood the situation, twirling her long hair around. "Or is it that you have multiple? Is he your side piece or something?"
Damian froze at that, what the heck was this girl talking about?
"No he and I are not dating or in a relationship, and he definitely not my... side piece, whatever that is.”
Unfazed by what she just heard Black just continued to talk, "Sorry I thought you guys were like totally an item... Anybody else in your life then?"
The green eyed girl had enough of this nonsense she needed to find Jon and get away from these rich kids who have nothing better than to gossip, it was bad for her health and mental state, she didn't want to end up killing somebody.
The youngest Wayne then gave a dumb excuse and walked off without a second thought, leaving Black alone by the tables.
A minute later the girl made it back to the group and saw her best friend right before things started to get out of hand.
"-I still don't understand why she is dating you if you have nothing to offer her?" Stevenson asked aggressively, not understanding what redeeming qualities Jon had.
The raven haired boy sighed and tried to explain for the millionth time.
"Like I said before we aren't dating she's just my friend."
The blonde boy scoffed replying, "Sure whatever you say, I would have still thought she would've had better taste than someone like a reporter's boy."
Now that was it for Damian.
It wasn't the fact they thought the pair had been dating it was the fact that they remarked about Jon's character.
She had tried playing nice and avoiding conflict for tonight but she didn't care anymore they were being unnecessarily rude for no reason. Jon might be a reporter's boy and not come from money but that didn't matter he was still better than any of them. At first, it had taken some time to get along with the half alien since they were so different but they eventually became friends and hung out, even now he surprises the girl.
The green eyed girl then stepped forward in front of Jon and crossed her arms wearing a glare that warranted death.
"Jonathan has something you will never have Stevenson, he has a kind heart."
The raven haired boy was speechless when he heard those words, not even able to breathe for a second because it felt like all the air had been knocked out of them from the impact of Damian's honest words.
"Tch I bet he doesn't even know how to dance." Stevenson taunted as he rolled his eyes.
Damian then grabbed Jon's hand and dragged him towards the dance floor, oh she'll show him.
When they finally arrived the younger's momentary freeze up was over and he slowly came out of it as the older girl positioned his hands in the right place, Damian didn't know if Jon knew how to dance the waltz but they were going to make Stevenson eat his words.
The music then echoed throughout the rooftop and the pair began to slowly begin their dance, the floor wasn't that crowded since the evening was more than halfway over so as the dance continued it would probably gain more attention but that didn't matter.
"Forgive me for taking you out here suddenly," Damian apologized having no shame in her voice as she did, glancing over to the teens watching them skeptically. "I shall lead since you do not know how to dance."
The younger didn't honestly care about what just happened he was just happy that they weren't over there anymore, he was especially grateful that it had been Damian and not someone like his dad that saved him, that would have been embarrassing. Long story short the raven haired boy was over it already.
That said Jon then smiled brightly and shook his head, making the girl wonder what was going on inside his head.
"Who said I didn't know how to dance?"
The younger then effortlessly lifted the green eyed girl into the air for a spin and set her down gently, the shorter taking milliseconds to adapt to his sudden change in pace and keep the rhythm.
It was Damian turn to be surprised as she smirked challenging the raven haired boy, "Oh so the reporter's boy can dance?"
The half alien only laughed lightly.
"You know I think I like farm boy better."
"Well farm boy let me see what you got," The older girl said confidently as the song began to speed up. "Hopefully you can keep pace."
Jon smiled matching Damian's feet.
"I should be saying that to you."
And just like that they were off flying across the floor with smiles on their faces, taking in every moment.
Just like before, standing there and watching Clark, Dick, Tim, and now Bruce were all watching from their table as the two youngest members of their group were dominating the dance floor.
Clark noticed the couple first saying, "Well isn't that a sight."
Tim then let out a tired sigh as they all looked at the dance floor.
"Dick don't even start." Bruce said worn out, crossing his arms.
Dick ignored the older and sang, "I hear wedding bells one day B."
The older rubbed the bridge of his nose, not ever going to be ready to hear those words for his youngest child, it gave him shivers ever thinking about it.
Clark then looked around cluelessly not understanding.
"Why are you hearing wedding bells?"
Bruce looked over at the man and said, "Clark... it's a saying."
Tim then took a sip of his drink shaking his head.
"How are you married."
"I heard she asked him out first." Dick whispered into the younger ear.
That explained it.
...
Damian and Jon had been dancing for a few minutes before the lights on the dance floor went out and they were momentarily dancing in the dark, a minute later a bright spotlight soon shined down right over the duo.
The two were so caught up in their moments that they didn't notice all the other people on the floor had walked off leaving the two of them alone, when Damian thought they were going to get attention she didn't think it would get this much attention from everyone.
The duo had been having so much fun with each other they had forgotten they were at a gala.
Wordless looks to the other they both decided this to be the last move and executed it perfectly, ending with a low bow to the opposite.
As the pair walked off the floor with rounds of applause cheering them on Damian and Jon watched as the face of Stevenson and his friends scrunched up in anger and disgust while they walked away to the other side of the rooftop.
That showed all those rich kids both Damian and Jon thought as they journeyed to get a drink, ignoring the looks they were getting from the rest of their families as they passed.
The night was coming to an end and both Damian and Jon had found themselves hiding in the small garden on the rooftop after everything that happened prior.
Grass, flowers, and plants surrounded the two as they ventured deeper into until they reached the railing near some blossoming white flower trees.
It really was a beautiful area tucked behind here away from the party and people, it felt quiet and peaceful looking over the edge at the city lights.
When Damian finally had enough standing in silence she asked, "When did you learn how to dance?"
"My mom actually taught me last week," Jon answered as he scratched the back of his head sheepishly, a shy smile playing on his lips as he rambled. "She said that since it's a party there would be dancing, so I should learn how to dance, but also because she said that you might-"
The younger stopped mid sentence and tried to stop himself from saying too much.
Unlucky for the half alien it had already peaked the green eyed girl's interest as she questioned, "Might what?"
The raven haired boy looked away, pink dusting his ears.
"That... you might want to dance."
"What is that supposed to imply?" The shorter asked curiously.
Jon shook his head with a shrug saying, "I don't really know she just said that you might want to dance so..."
Damian nodded and decided to drop it, if even Jon didn’t know than she probably couldn’t figure it out either.
The wind then picked up again and the thirteen year old brushed some loose strands out of her face.
"I bet I look like a mess now."
The youngest Wayne referred to her hair flying in all directions from the wind at this spot when they arrived a few minutes ago, choosing to take out the pin in her hair and letting it flow in the wind. She had only stood there for a few minutes but she still felt the strong currents of the air push and pull her hair and dress nonstop.
The raven haired boy shook his head saying, "You look fine you look-"
Damian gave him a look.
"Beautiful?"
"No, you look-"
But before he could finish his words a loud 'boom' exploded in the distance.
Damian turned and looked at the sky as various fireworks filled it with color, dancing around it freely over the city.
"I see it is time for the fireworks." The thirteen year old commented quietly as she watched in partial amusement.
The green eyed girl then felt an another strong gust of wind go by but this time making the flowers around them flutter in the air like confetti as they slowly landed on the ground. Damian watched in wonder and then turned and looked at Jon with a small but genuine smile on her face as it lit up.
"Perfect." The younger said sincerely as his face gained color, the word covered by the sound of the fireworks in the distance.
The word had come out before the younger could stop and realized why he had even called her that honestly, it came out so naturally without him even trying, not that he could ever deny that the older girl ever looked anything other than that every time he saw her.
Jon blushed for the hundred time today and felt his stomach flutter, had he always felt like this around Damian? Did he like her?
At first he thought it was just normal to feel this way around all girls but then the more he thought about it this only happened when Damian was around him, the same with blushing, but then again he didn't do that with every girl so what was different about her...
"Did you hear me Kent?" Damian called out as she looked over at himself again.
Jon quickly snapped out of his inner turmoil as he fixed his glasses and smiled apologetically.
"S-sorry what?"
"I said that these remind me of the flower trees my mother took me to see when I was young," The youngest Wayne explained as she held out her hand to catch some of the petals. "They were always so pretty to see when they bloomed, similar to these."
The younger decided whatever he was going through right now could wait, he could figure it all out later, right now he needed to focus on what was in front of him now, being here with Damian.
Jon grabbed a few petals in his palm agreeing, "They are quite pretty."
The clock tower in the distance then started to chime, signaling it was midnight.
"Midnight is when the party is supposed to end, we should find our parents." Damian said happily glad this was all finally coming to a close.
The raven haired boy then wordlessly followed the older girl as they speedily made their way out of the garden.
Soon after they made it out they met up with the rest of their families and stayed at the party for another half hour before they all headed back to Wayne Manor, all of them having to say their goodbye and such to the people at the party before they all left.
As soon as everything was taken care of the group left and swiftly made their getaway for the night, having a whole other year till the next one of these things again.
Wayne Manor
Getting back to the house all the partygoers crashed on the couch completely exhausted from the gala to do much else, save Damian and Jon who were nowhere in sight.
Dick looked over at his younger brother and asked, "I am too tired to move what about you Tim?"
"Mhm." The younger replied with a groan expressing his discomfort.
The twenty seven year old smiled and gave his brother a knowing look.
"Would it have been better if Kon had been able to come as well?"
Tim scoffed and lightly shoved the older saying, "Have him here to do what? Let you annoy him and me like you annoy Damian and Jon?"
The nineteen year old then got to his feet and started to head for the kitchen for some food.
"Nice try but I don't think so Dick, I know better than that."
"Aww, but you two are just as cute Timmy." The older said as he got to his feet and chased after the younger.
Tim blushed at the comment.
"Shut up."
With the two brothers gone it only left Clark and Bruce alone in the room, Alfred leaving to clean somewhere else in the huge house.
"At least our kids all get along." Clark said in a light tone trying to cheer his gloomy looking friend up.
Bruce sighed and replied in an even tone, "Yeah sometimes I think a little too well."
The alien waved him off lightheartedly.
"That's never a bad thing Bruce."
The millionaire gave his friend a serious look.
Kon was already dating Tim, and it looked like Jon was going to try and make a move on Damian soon, so Bruce's point wasn't wrong.
Clark thought about it for a second and began to ponder it more deeply as the lines that Bruce had already connected finally dawned on the alien.
"Huh, then I guess it looks like you and I are going to be friends for a long time."
"Just remember Clark," The millionaire said in a low serious voice, already knowing for a long time that one of his children would end up with a Kent. "I know your family's weakness if any of your boys hurt my kids in any way."
The alien felt sweat slide down the back of his neck.
"Now Bruce let's not be hasty they're still young, children make mistakes..."
...
The two youngest who weren't in the living had taken a detour and ended up in the empty hallway upstairs.
"Why did you take me here Kent?" The green eyed girl asked confused, not understanding why he asked her to come here because he needed to give her something.
Jon rocked back and forth on his heels nervously as he began to explain, "I wanted to thank you for the party earlier when you stepped in."
Before Damian even had time to answer the younger stepped forward in a sudden rush of courage and kissed the girl on the lips.
It was purely unexpected even from the culprit where his lips landed, the raven haired boy intending to kiss her lightly on the cheek as she had once down to him, not square on the lips. The sweet show of affection was stopped just as fast as it had begun and Jon immediately pulled away in embarrassment of how bad he messed up.
The half alien had his eyes closed, that was why he missed, why had he done that?!
"I a-am so sorry D I was aiming f-for your cheek I didn't mean to do that I swear!" Jon said as he was ready to get down on his hands and knees for forgiveness.
It was a full minute before the thirteen year old said anything over Jon’s panicked apologies.
"We must never speak of this again understood Kent."
Jon nodded vigorously in agreement, at least she forgave him.
"Yes of course, anything."
As they walked back to the living room with blush all over both their faces Damian muttered under her breath, "That was my first kiss..."
When the two got back Clark decided to leave with Jon not long after, leaving the residents in the house to make their way to bed for the few hours of sleep they would get tonight before the sun arose.
...
The next day when the paper for the news arrived the family wasn't surprised to find that both Damian and Jon had made the front page from the gala last night, and Bruce and Damian had made the second page. Many reporters cover stories saying that rumors were flying around at the party that Jon was her unnamed boyfriend who was just a regular citizen, beating out Bruce and his daughter's dance on the second page.
When Bruce saw the front page he gave it one glance before throwing the front page in the trash for not wanting to look at it.
That same morning when Damian saw the paper before her father got rid of it she blushed a mad red, getting reminded of what transpired later after the party, over all not sure how to feel about it.
It was weird when both she and Jon kissed, she didn't hate it like she thought she would.
The raven haired boy's lips were soft and gentle when they touched hers, it was all so confusing now, they weren't together so was she supposed to be feeling this way? Did she like Jon?
Damian then sighed as she read the book in her lap, she needed to think about this more before she jumped to conclusions.
On the Way Back to Metropolis
Both Clark and Jon were flying back through the clouds to make it back home at a reasonable hour.
Jon then nervously looked around the blue night sky before finally going for it, "So dad I have this friend and he thinks he likes this girl... how does he know if he likes her?"
Clark gulped taking in his son's words carefully, this is what Dick meant wedding bells, it all made sense now.
"Well umm son... you see... why don't you ask your mom that when she gets back tomorrow."
"Oh okay. " The twelve year old said as he nodded, slightly disappointed with the response.
The man let out a sigh and began to think about how he was going to explain this right now and then eventually asked, "How much does he think he likes her?"
"Uhh... a lot."
