Work Text:

The loud belated booms that resonated within the entirety of Ei, the fireworks were absolutely magnificent, breathtaking really. Yet the beauty from the purple fireworks that were shot up no doubt in her celebration could not hold a candle to the beauty of the pink haired youkai standing next to her. The way the fireworks reflected on her face, the purple lights seemingly even more breathtaking as they shone on the pink haired girl's face. Almost as if they enunciated each and every feature on her face, enhancing her features and entrancing Ei.

“Beautiful.” It was but a whisper under her breath, the cool white air flowing from her mouth as she spoke into the cold night sky, the words slightly fanned her upper lip, maybe if it was said a little louder she’d have felt it more.

Had it not been for Miko’s sensitive ears, her left ear twitching at the sound of noise and slightly standing, she would not have heard it. Ei could see the slight movement in her peripheral vision, but it didn’t matter nor catch Ei’s attention, as the change in Miko’s facial expression and her excited voice as she agreed saying; “Right?! I love fireworks so much!” was worth far more attention than anything else, Ei really didn't know what she’d do without this woman, she was genuinely and hopelessly crazy for the girl who stood before her.

Seemingly finally feeling the lovesick gaze on her Miko turned her head a bit, giving Ei a better view. A goofy smile spread across Miko’s face, a blush following the spread of it, “You weren’t talking about the fireworks were you?” The bashfulness in her voice, the happiness in it, the way her lips moved with each word that left her mouth. Ei couldn’t think of a word other than completely and utterly entranced to describe what she was currently feeling. Her eyes followed each movement of Miko’s lips, Miko’s perfectly pink and plump lips, so very kissable.

It wasn’t a conscious decision, it was one her body had made for her, her impulses acting before her mind could catch up, she took a slow small step, getting impossibly closer to Miko. They were both now completely facing each other, once again making Ei speechless at the beauty before her. Her hand was making its way to Miko’s waist while the other found its place on Miko’s nape, her fingers resting on the side of Miko’s neck while her thumb rested against her cheek. Ei’s thumb stroked the expanse of Miko’s cheek, reveling in the soft sweet skin that was tinted with a slight pink under her finger. Ei tilted her head even more down, Miko’s head already looking up at Ei, anticipation sparkling in her eyes, anticipating the next move Ei would make, eyes shining in excitement, she was fairly certain that it was a kiss she’d receive, yet no matter how many times she kissed Ei, the giddy feeling before they kissed and the excitement to feel Ei’s warm lips on hers would always be there. She would always want Ei, always crave Ei, always yearn for Ei.

The fireworks in the sky were nothing more than a reflection of Ei’s insides, as her lips landed on Miko’s. Each boom from each and every firework was echoed within both of the girls there, doing nothing but speed up their already racing hearts. Ei’s lips were soft on Miko’s, when Ei’s lips met Miko’s it was soft, tender. It was a moment for them and only them, it was intimate, and gentle, a whisper of a kiss. Miko’s lips were so soft, she could taste a hint of the dango they had shared but a short while back. Miko’s hands found their way to Ei’s neck, playing with the soft short hairs, combing her fingers through them as she lost herself in the kiss. Time seemed to slow, the fireworks fading into the distance, nothing but a muffled sound that had become one with the background, irrelevant because in this moment nothing but Miko mattered. Each movement was deliberate, slow, and savoring. Ei was trying her best to get everything she could from this kiss, slowly inhaling the air that belonged to Miko, air tainted with Miko, something she wished every breath she took was tainted with. It was nothing deeper, it was nothing rough, it was just them trying to get as close to the other as they could.

Miko pulled away first. Her forehead rested against Ei’s, her heavy pants fanning Ei’s lips. “I love you.” Again, it was a whisper, a breathless whisper, it was something that if not heard could be felt against Miko’s own lips, but with their proximity it would have been impossible to miss, it was something Ei truly meant. Something she meant just as much as the first day those words left her mouth, maybe even more now. Ei leaned in again, delivering a small peck on Miko’s lips before pulling away fully with a goofy grin on her face. Miko’s face was flushed, a shy smile on her face as they both looked back to the sky standing side by side, Ei’s arm wrapped around Miko’s waist. They looked back just in time to see the ending. Pink fireworks were shot up into the air and after a while, a pink kitsune shaped firework exploded into the air. This was the first year they had done something like this.

A firework to commemorate the Shogun's wife.
