Another day, another period in the assassination classroom. Current subject: Politics.
“Well done, Mimura, Isogai and Maehara!” Korosensei said to the 3 boys standing in front of the blackboard, “At first I wasn’t certain about you using the Hunger Games for your review of political works, but the three of you did an excellent job bringing out the overall satirical theme and subtle messaging.”
“Thanks Korosensei,” Maehara smiled, “We did our best.”
“Sure you did,” Isogai rolled his eyes, “All you did was watch the movies.”
“Yeah, movie and book comparison is great for analytical work. And by watching and leaving the reading to you guys, the work got nicely divided.” Maehara shrugged.
“Sure, whatever you say.” Mimura responded awkwardly.
“I’ve honestly never seen or read the series,” Okuda spoke up, “Being put into an arena and having to kill your friends sounds terrifying.”
“Well, we’d at least have an advantage, since we’re already training under professor K,” Okano spoke up. “Minus the whole ‘murder other kids’ part, I think we’d do great out there.”
“Nurufufu, is that so?” Korosensei smiled before disappearing and bringing in Karasuma. “Mr. Karasuma, how about for the next multi-day survival exercise, we put the students in a battle royale, Hunger Games style?! A massive battle, survival of the fittest, until only one remains!”
"Are you serious? That's what you dragged me out for?" Karasuma asked.
"Please, professor Karasuma," Kataoka spoke up, "It may sound irrelevant, but I'm sure there's a lot to learn."
“Alright, I suppose that could work as training. Next multi-day exercise is this weekend, so if you really insist, I can arrange that.” Karasuma sighed.
“Great!” Korosensei shouted, “The winner will receive no homework for the entire next week, and gets to dine on Karasuma’s dime!”
“DON’T GO DECIDING THAT FOR ME!” Karasuma shouted as he lunged his knife at Korosensei.
“Totally I’m game,” Kurahashi spoke up, “Dinner with professor Karasuma is a dream come true!”
“Sweetie, I think you’re kinda missing the point.” Nakamura responded to the animal lover.
“Alright everyone,” Isogai spoke as he stood up and positioned himself towards the rest of the class, “In the name of becoming better assassins, let’s do this!”
Cheers came from the whole class, everyone excited for the unorthodox, but exhilarating exercise.
A few days later, everyone changed into their combat gear and headed for the sports field. In the middle of the field, there was an assortment of crates, satchels and bags, making it hard to see what was inside.
“Uh, I don’t recall the weapons being all wrapped up like that…” Sugino spoke up.
“Nurufufufu, all part of the exercise, my boy,” Korosensei smiled, “Turning everything into random items makes the initial fight or flight decision harder, and will push you to call upon your resourcefulness.”
“He has a point,” Karma commented, “But no matter, I’m sure I can beat all of you with whatever I manage to grab.”
“Alright everyone,” Karasuma shouted, drawing everyone’s attention, “It’s almost time for the Hunger Games battle royale exercise, so I’ll explain the rules one more time. The game will start in exactly 20 minutes, at 3pm, and will last until sunday noon at the latest. Either anyone who’s still alive after these 45 hours, or the last two people left standing will gather here for a gladiator fight, using whatever items they acquired until one person remains. As always, you kill your opponents using harmless weapons with paint applied to them, and Ritsu will confirm the kill to me and the other teachers, who will act as judges.”
“Count on me!” Ritsu smiled, “I’ll be available all throughout the game.”
“Location wise,” Karasuma continued, “the entire mountain is your battlefield. This includes the school building, except for your classroom, where the dead people will remain during the night.”
“Sweet, we get to sleep out in the wilderness.” Okano grinned.
“Hmmm, not looking forward to that,” Kayano sighed, “I don’t want to catch hypothermia.”
“No worries about that, children,” Korosensei spoke up, “Your combat uniform is equipped to regulate your body temperature, so nights should be a bit chilly and uncomfortable at worst, even if you don’t get your hands on any sleeping gear.”
“There’s actually sleeping gear?” Kataoka asked.
“Indeed,” Korosensei nodded, “Aside from all the stuff gathered in the middle of the field, I have scattered all manner of weapons, food and other items around the mountain. And to even further your need for resourcefulness, craftiness and creativity, few weapons are the knives and guns you’re used to by now. That being said, I’ve also placed several traps that might be just as lethal as a strike from your classmate.”
“Wow, they really went all out for this exercise!” Kimura commented.
“Indeed we did,” Karasuma nodded, “The octopus was so insistent on recreating the feeling of the hunger games, he’ll even shoot fireworks on the hour for everyone who has fallen and display their image by nightfall.”
“That sounds like him alright.” Fuwa responded.
“One last question,” Yada said as she raised her hand, “Are we allowed to team up?”
“Ah, very good question, Yada,” Korosensei spoke up, “One of the biggest dilemma’s in battle royale survival is always whether you should team up or play it solo. Do you go for safety in numbers with the risk of being backstabbed by your fellow assassin, or do you go alone without such risk? The choice is completely up to you, but I won’t allow any post-game grudges because of any treachery or dirty play that happened during the battle as long as it’s within the rules, understood? playing quick and dirty to become the last one standing is the name of the game, and a tactic any assassin should have in their arsenal when the need arises.”
“Yes sir!” The class shouted.
“Very well, I believe that’s everything,” Karasuma said as he checked his watch, “Everyone please take your positions in your assigned spots around the item pile. The game will start at 3pm sharp.”
All students got up and took their respective places. Supervising the place were Korosensei, Karasuma and Irina, sitting on a platform overseeing the main field.
“This is certainly going to be interesting,” Irina said, “Forcing those students to survive long term and using unconventional weaponry. You sure this got to do with your assassination?”
“Maybe not directly,” Korosensei admitted, “But then again, this is different from their usual PE classes. As I already told the students, this exercise will train their survival skills, resourcefulness, and creativity, as well as their ingenuity and endurance. Any one of them can win this game if they play it smart.”
Ritsu, who’s main body was brought outside and standing next to the teachers, suddenly started speaking, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Alright everyone, let the games begin in 10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1…
GO!”
SPLAT!!
As everyone started running, either towards the pile or the forest, Nakamura stood still, one foot outside of her spot and absolutely covered in red paint.
“Nurufufu, seems someone was a bit too eager to get started,” Korosensei chuckled. “Too bad, miss Nakamura.”
“Sonnuva..!” The blonde girl cursed, “You actually placed paint mines?”
“Correct,” Ritsu confirmed, “And it seems you left your spot 0.87 seconds too early, resulting in your death.”
“Well, that bites,” Irina spoke up, “Girl’s gonna be walking around like a tomato for a while.”
“Not to worry,” Karasuma responded, “Their gear is easily washable, and we got showers installed in the changing rooms a couple months ago.”
“Anyway, let’s keep watching,” Korosensei said, “Nakamura might have been the first victim, but she’s no longer the only one.”
Around the pile, quite a few students had chosen to engage in the all-out brawl.
Kimura, who was the fastest runner in class, reached the pile first and grabbed a bag, quickly checking it and pulling out a couple balloons filled with paint.
“Sweet!” The green-haired boy said, getting ready for any attackers. But before he could do anything, Okano jumped up from behind him and kicked his feet from under him, causing him to fall and the balloons to splat open on him.
“Sorry Kimura, better luck next time!” the gymnast winked as she snatched his bag and ran off into the woods.
Terasaka, followed by Yoshida and Muramatsu, had grabbed a crate and slammed it to the ground, breaking it open and gaining direct access to the content.
“Dude, careful. you’ll damage the goods.” Muramatsu shouted.
“No time for that, we gotta grab what we can before getting the hell out of here!” Terasaka sneered back as he picked up a large club.
“Wow Terasaka, now you’re really rocking the caveman look.”
Karma was grinning a devilish smile, standing atop a crate and holding a satchel over his shoulder.
“Crap, of course he’s here!” Yoshida shouted and he grabbed the nearest weapon, which turned out to be a plunger, “Why the hell is this a weapon?!”
“Luck of the draw, I guess,” Karma responded as he jumped back avoiding Terasaka’s swings before pulling out a can of spray paint and spraying a large X over the large boys’ face, “And that’s one down. Who’s ne…”
But before the red-haired boy could finish, a paint ball appeared out of nowhere, hitting the back of his skull.
“What the…Who did that!?”
“Nice shot.” Hayami said to Chiba, who was armed with a slingshot. The pair had teamed up and were hiding in the bushes near the edge of the field.
“It was now or never,” Chiba responded, “Karma’s too dangerous to be left alive, and no one expects outside attacks during the opening brawl.”
“Quite clever from our snipers,” Korosensei said while munching on popcorn, “Karma was undoubtedly prepared for any close combat attack, but it seems Chiba got lucky by finding an excellent weapon despite choosing to run rather than fight.”
“Shit!” Yoshida and Muramatsu immediately ducked behind the crates as they realized the snipers were hanging around. Sugino and Hara, who had been in combat with Isogai and Maehara, quickly did the same before anyone else got hit.
“Guys, how about a truce until we’re safe from the snipers?!” Isogai shouted.
“Agreed! but how do we get rid of those two?!” Sugino asked.
“Search the crates and bags! Maybe we can find something to fire back!” Hara responded.
The six started to carefully move around, looking for anything useful.
“I got a blanket!” Muramatsu shouted, “We could use that to cover ourse…”
Suddenly, a scream sounded from the sniper's nest, and Hayami came running out slapping around her body. Isogai reacted lightning fast, shooting the girl with a blowgun he had found in a satchel and hitting her on the cheek.
“Score!” Maehara shouted, “Now get back before Chiba shoots you!”
“There’s no need for that!”
Everyone looked back as Hazama came walking out of the bushes carrying an axe, followed by Chiba, who’s throat was covered in paint.
“That was a dirty trick, Hazama!” Hayami groaned as she got back up, wiping her face.
“And that was a sweet scream, Rinka,” Hazama retorted with a sadistic grin, “Never took you for the screaming type.”
“Tch…”
“Hold on, someone please explain what just happened!” Maehara shouted, “Did Hazama just take out both Hayami and Chiba on her own?”
“Not exactly,” The black-haired girl responded as she held up her hand, showing a large tarantula. “Chiba wasn’t the only one who found a perfect weapon. Once this baby snuck up on Hayami’s back and sent her screaming, Chiba was so disoriented it was a cakewalk to finish the job.”
“You’re amazing, Hazama.” Sugino deadpanned.
“Also terrifying.” Hara added.
“Why thank you,” Hazama grinned. “Anyway, what do you guys say the seven of us team up for now and loot the treasure pile?”
“I can’t believe you actually considered a spider as a weapon.” Karasuma said as he looked at Korosensei.
“Nurufufufu, I had a feeling it would serve as an excellent blade for some of the students,” Korosensei chuckled, “And it looks like I was right.”
“She’s absolutely terrifying,” Irina said, “Oh, hello there Nakamura.”
“Hi there, professor Bitch,” Nakamura responded as she sat down on the platform, wearing her regular gym uniform, “What did I miss?”
“Quite a bit,” Ritsu spoke up, “Kimura, Terasaka, Karma, Hayami and Chiba all got killed. Furthermore, it seems Isogai, Maehara, Sugino, Hara, Hazama, Muramatsu and Yoshida have all teamed up to plunder the central pile.”
“Damn, both Karma and the snipers are out?” The blonde girl responded, “Seems this game is really breaking from the status quo.”
“Nurufufu, you shouldn’t underestimate any of your classmates,” Korosensei smiled, “Even I have no idea who will win this.”
“So we already 6 kills and 7 people teaming up,” Irina commented, “Ritsu, any idea how the remaining 14 are doing?”
“I’m on it!”
Okano had been running for a while now before she decided to stop and climb into a tree to check the loot she had acquired. She had stolen Kimura’s bag as well as snatched a satchel before deciding to make a run for it. Normally she’d be happy to stay and fight, but she decided to be patient because of one thing: nightfall. She knew no one in her class could beat her in the darkness, as she had an excellent sense of smell and night vision. Now this game would be an excellent way to put these weapons to the test.
Looking in her bag, she had acquired a blanket, some rope, a lighter, a pack of protein bars, a hammer and an unpopped paint balloon. Not ideal, but still a good stash overall. Thirst would eventually become a problem, as the only sources of water were the pool and the class building, but for now she could rely on her stash. She could even pick fruits and berries if necessary. As six fireworks shot into the air, signaling the end of the initial all-out brawl, the petite gymnast grinned. This game was hers to win.
“I..I think that’s far enough…”
Kanzaki and Kayano fell to their knees, panting as they heard fireworks in the distance.
“4…5…6 shots,” Kanzaki counted, “Not as much as I expected.”
“Well, we are assassins rather than all out combatants,” Kayano responded, “I guess most of us opted to flee rather than risk immediate death.”
“Fair enough,” Kanzaki nodded, “Did you manage to find any loot?”
“Sadly not,” The green-haired girl shook her head, “Too busy running.”
“I see. But hey, look what I acquired.” Kanzaki smiled as she held up a large bag.
“Holy mother of pudding!” Kayano shouted, “Where did you find that?”
“Guess it comes with the gamer territory,” Kanzaki smiled, “I got a pretty good eye for loot to pick up.”
“Let’s check what’s inside,” Kayano said as she opened the bag, “hmmm, a short saber, camouflage spray for our gear, dried fruit and a sleeping bag for two.”
“For two, really?”
“Yup. seems Korosensei might still try to send out a subtle message.”
“You sure it’s a good idea to come here?”
“It’s the best place to get water, something we should do before the others get here.”
“Still, we should be careful. For all we know, Kataoka could be hiding under the surface.”
“She won’t, I saw her running in the other direction.”
Suguya, Mimura and Fuwa had teamed up and were walking towards the pool.
“Don’t worry,” Suguya grinned, “The material of the satchel you found is pretty much waterproof. I can quickly convert it into a water bag, and we’ll be out in a jiffy.”
“Alright then,” Fuwa nodded, “Meanwhile we will look around for some more loot. Korosensei knew we would come here, so there’s bound to be some stuff around.”
“Sounds good.” Sugaya responded as he sat behind a rock to start his handiwork. Suddenly, a yelp came from the bushes, causing the boy to jump up.
“Guys?! Is that you?”
“Nope, we’re right behind you,” Mimura responded as he and Fuwa came walking out, carrying an extra bag as well as a large staff, “You okay? We heard somebody scream.”
“It came from over there. Keep your guard up.”
The three slowly moved forward only to find Okuda, hanging upside down with her foot in a snare trap.
“Oh, you poor thing,” Fuwa spoke up, unable to hide an amused smirk, “What are we to do with you?”
“Please don’t kill me,” The class chemist pleaded, “I was just looking for someone to team up with.”
“Hmmm, what do you think, guys?” Mimura asked.
“I’d say we let her join,” Sugaya responded as he grabbed Mimura’s staff and began prodding at the tree branch Okuda was suspended from. “Killing her like this would just be cruel, and I bet she can brew a mad concoction with all the random goodies we find.”
“Thanks guys,” Okuda smiled happily after the others helped her down, “I promise I’ll do my best to help out!”
“All in a day's work,” Mimura responded, “Now that that’s over with, how are the water bags coming along, Suguya?”
“I was just finished,” the other boy said as he passed him an empty sack, “ Now let’s go fill these babies up.”
Both boys walked to the edge of the pool. But as they crouched down, Okuda noticed strange movement on the other side.
“Guys, watch out! It’s a…!”
But before she could finish, a giant underwater bear trap going around the entire edge of the pool sprang and snapped shut around the two boys.
“WHAT THE HELL? IS THERE SUPPOSED TO BE A MEGALODON LIVING IN OUR POOL?”
“Holy crap, that was just brutal,” Irina commented. Both the teachers and the fallen students had gathered on the platform and were watching the game through Ritsu’s main body.
“Well, at least Okuda and Fuwa made it out alive,” Kimura spoke up, “It would suck to be saved from a trap only to end up in another one.”
“Nurufufu, I admit that was a tricky one,” Korosensei chuckled, “I noticed both Mimura and Okuda saw the trap, but alas, the boy wasn’t fast enough.”
“Mimura’s got an eye for the field,” Karma shrugged as he plopped down next to Nakamura.
“Hey, look who it is, mr. hotshot,” Nakamura grinned, “Didn’t expect to see you join us so soon.”
“Whatever,” Karma shrugged, “Guess I should throw the others a bone from time to time as well. Plus, I got to mark Terasaka as my property.”
“Hey!” Terasaka shouted.
“Save the bickering, you two,” Karasuma spoke up, “The fighting’s happening in the arena, not here!”
“Speaking of, care to show us what the other students are up to, Ritsu?” Korosensei asked while preparing two more fireworks.
“Yes sir!”
“Guess I’ll be going solo for now…”
Nagisa was hiding in a small cave, holding what little loot he had managed to forage: A large bottle of water, a pillow, a flashlight and a rack of shurikens. Hearing some fireworks in the distance, he decided to stay put for now. Maybe some of his closer classmates, like Sugino or Kayano would come by and be open to working together. If not, he could try to sneak out later, maybe try to get in a hit on an unsuspecting classmate and steal their loot. The blue-haired boy chuckled. It sounded a lot worse when thinking it out like that.
“Seriously dude, I don’t get you at all.”
“Oh? Care to explain?”
“All you talk about is being into 2D girls. Nothing wrong with that part, since it’s your fancy. But then you also are hard into the whole maid cafe thing, a place filled with boobalicious 3D girls.”
Takebayashi, Okajima and Itona were walking near the mountain path, only holding a few satchels and weapons amongst the three of them.
“It’s quite simple, my perverted friend,” Takebayashi said as he pushed up his glasses. The Black & White maid cafe is an ideal place to indulge in some sweet R&R. The maids are also beautiful and a joy to be around. That being said, their status pales in comparison to an actual 2D girl, such as our own Ritsu.”
“I guess that makes some sort of sense,” Okajima nodded, “Just don’t let us catch you making out with her LCD screen. Speaking of, what about you, fellow oppai brother?”
“Hmmm?” Itona looked up at the other boys.
“You weren’t there when we first discussed this, but who’s your favorite girl in our class?”
“Hmmm, I’d go with Yada.” The silver-haired boy answered.
“Nice,” Okajima commented, “a solid choice, my friend.”
“I distinctly recall that during our initial discussion, Kanzaki ended up in first place with 4 votes, followed by Yada with 3.” Takebayashi spoke up, “Which means that given the new circumstances, professor Bitches’ pupil is now tied for first place with the class idol.”
“Honestly, I’d settle for pretty much any girl in our class,” Okajima said as he held his hands behind his head, “Even if not all are my preferred body type.”
“You’re talking about Kayano, aren’t you?”
“Yep.”
“Whoops, Kayano’s gonna flip when she hears that.” Suguya spoke up. After he and Mimura were killed in the pool trap, Korosensei had immediately fetched the two boys to prevent any disturbances in the game.
“Nevermind that, I’m more interested in those rankings Takebayashi was talking about.” Nakamura grinned.
“Oh yeah, I remember those,” Karma responded, “Sadly that discussion was interrupted by a certain yellow octopus.
“Yeah, he pretty much did the same to us when professor Bitch was gonna tell us some of her stories.” Hayami spoke up.
“Nurufufu, why have mach 20 speed when you don’t put it to good use?” Korosensei chuckled.
“Right, define good use.” Terasaka sneered.
“Anyway, seems all of your remaining classmates have made their groups and the initial heat has died down a bit,” Korosensei said, “Why don’t we make use of the moment to move back inside the classroom and make ourselves comfortable? Just make sure you don’t disturb the game by getting in the way of your living classmates. I’ve already set up sleeping gear and prepared dinner bentos for everyone who won’t need to survive on their found loot.”
As everyone started to get up, Chiba suddenly spoke.
“Hold up, aren’t we missing a few students? Among everyone who’s dead and appeared on screen, I only count 25 people.”
“Nurufufu, don’t you worry, my boy,” Korosensei answered, “Ritsu’s keeping a few things hidden to make the viewing experience more exciting. Anyway, let’s move on.”
“Looks like our audience is moving back inside.” Maehara noticed. He and the others from the group of 7 had spent the last hour looting every crate, bag and satchel for weapons, food and other items.
“Doesn’t make much of a difference for us,” Muramatsu responded, “We seriously hit the motherload here.”
“True, but we should still be careful,” Isogai spoke up, “We’re pretty much sitting ducks out here, and people will eventually come for us.”
“Then why don’t we move inside the building?” Sugino suggested, “Karasuma did say it was allowed as long as we don’t enter the graveyard, aka our classroom.”
“Isn’t that a bit too easy?” Yoshida asked.
“It’s a high-risk, high-reward strategy,” Hara answered, “We’ll have shelter and solid defenses, but we’re bound to be attacked eventually, as we’re completely open.”
“We should be good as long as we set night guards,” Hazama spoke up as she caressed her spider, “It’s too soon to start fighting amongst ourselves, so let’s try to get at least one night of indoor sleep.”
“So it’s decided then,” Isogai said as he took up his blowgun and a shield. “Hazama and I will stand guard while you guys move everything inside. Once it gets dark, we’ll put up night patrol shifts so everyone can get some sleep. If anyone attacks or tries to sneak in, we’ll wake everyone so we can fight back. Sounds good?”
“You got it!”
“Ever the charming leader, isn’t he?” Korosensei said, chomping down on a candy bar. By now, the teachers and the 8 dead students had gathered in the classroom, which was covered with futons. Korosensei had even built a divider out of the desks to separate the boys and girls during the night.
“Interesting,” Karasuma responded, “Seems they’ve chosen to hold down the fort.”
“Isn’t there the risk of a siege?” Kimura asked, “They are kinda locking themselves in.”
“Unlikely,” The drill sergeant answered, “Only 12 other students remain alive, which is barely enough as it is. Furthermore, the name of the game is solo survival, so it’s unlikely people will put themselves in the line of fire, which cancels out a lot of siege tactics. Lastly, the inside team can easily go on lockdown for a while if necessary, until they start fighting among themselves. But by that time, many outsiders will also have fallen. So if I had to guess, the most that could happen is someone sneaking in in an attempt to steal some loot.”
“Well, at least we got a nice place to sleep. Been way too long since we had a sleepover.” Nakamura commented as she stretched herself out on a futon.
“Please, I could use one.”
Everyone turned around as Takebayshi stumbled into the classroom, covered in dirt, leaves and paint. He fell forward on a futon, completely clean as Korosensei had scrubbed him down in the half second it took him to land.
“Welcome back, Takebayashi,’ Korosensei said as he cleaned the boys’ glasses, “Guess someone else met their demise while we transported Ritsu back inside.”
“Dude, what happened to you?” Mimura asked as he sat down next to the maiden lover.
“Treelog trap…” Takebayashi mumbled, “Couldn’t get out of the way in time.”
“That’s rough, buddy,” Sugaya smiled sympathetically as he patted his back, “At this rate, more people will die from Korosensei’s traps than through other players.”
“Nurufufu, don’t be so sure,” Korosensei smiled as he grabbed a lantern and some fireworks, “Nightfall is nigh, and I feel not everyone will settle for a good nights’ rest.”
As the ever crescent moon rose over the mountain, Okano woke up from her slumber. Tying herself loose from the tree branch she had been sleeping on, she looked into the sky. Using a lantern, Korosensei was displaying the portraits and names of her classmates at mach speed. 9 people down, 17 to go.
In the main building, Muramatsu and Yoshida were patrolling. The cook was armed with a shield and mace, while the biker held a super soaker filled with paint.
“Man, this sucks,” Yoshida sighed. He and Muramatsu were walking through the halls as the other members of their unlikely alliance were staying in one of the empty rooms. “All the dead people get bentos in the next room over while we survive on dry ration foods. I’d even settle for some of your disgusting ramen.”
“Hey, not cool man,” Muramatsu responded, “Besides, it could be worse. At least we got shelter, and plenty of those dry ration foods. I mean, did you see Isogais face when he saw all that food?”
“True,” The biker grinned, “For a second I thought he was gonna fight us for the rations.”
“Guess that comes with being President Poverty.” Muramatsu grinned as he kept walking.
“...”
“Yoshida?”
As the cook turned back, Kataoka had appeared behind Yoshida, covering the bikers mouth and drawing a line of paint over his neck with a kunai.
“Shit!” Muramatsu raised his weapon, but was promptly pushed to the ground as both Yada and Kurahashi landed on top of him, pushing the air out of his lungs.
“Quick!” Kataoka said, passing the kunai to Yada, who quickly jabbed it on Muramatsu’s neck.
“Sonnuva… How the hell did you get here?” Yoshida asked as Kataoka let him go and he fell on his knees, “We checked every entry thoroughly.”
“Simple really,” Yada smiled, “Meg figured out this building would quickly become a fortress for the central loot.”
“So at the start of the game, we immediately snuck in and have been hiding under the roof for the last few hours.” Kurahashi continued.
“It wouldn’t be easy given we only had a single weapon, but it turned out alright,” Kataoka smiled, “Now if you’ll excuse us,we’ll be on our way.”
The three girls silently ran towards the storage room, leaving the two flabbergasted boys for dead.
Entering the storage room, the girls quickly stacked up on weapons, food and gear.
“Say, couldn’t we hide again and try to strike the next patrol?” Kurahashi asked.
“Too risky,” Kataoka responded as they walked out of the room, “They’ll likely search the entire building when they find out what happened to the bo…”
“Look out!” Yada shouted as she pulled Kataoka back by her collar before the class representative could turn the corner. A fraction of a second later, a paint balloon flew by and splatted against the wall, leaving a giant mess.
“It’s Sugino! Get back!” The three girls quickly ran back as they heard the baseball geek running through the hall, followed by more footsteps. They ran into back into the storage room, locking the door shut.
“It’s no good! We’re trapped!” Yada shouted as someone on the other side started charging into the door.
“Not quite!,” Kataoka said as she pointed toward a small window, “We can get out through there.”
The other girls nodded and opened the window. Kurahashi snuck out first, as she was the smallest. But as Yada got halfway through, the door nearly flung out of its frame, forcing Kataoka to throw her body against it to prevent the others from getting in.
“Here’s HARA!” The voice from the E class mom sounded from the other side.
“Meg! Come on, we gotta get out of here!” Yada pleaded as she held out her hand towards her.
“No…! Run! I’ll hold them off!” Meg said as Hara charged the door again, nearly sending the class didact flying.
“But…”
“No buts! Get out of here!” Kataoka shouted.
“I hate it when you sacrifice yourself for others,” Yada sighed, but gave her a smile, “Thank you. You really are the IkeMeg.”
“Good luck,” Kataoka smiled as the ponytailed girl jumped out the window. As she heard Hara charging again, she quickly rolled to the side. Without any resistance, the chubby girl slammed through the door without losing momentum and hit the wall hard. Kataoka reacted fast, grabbing a sword from the pile and hitting Hara on the back, rendering her dead.
“Very impressive, Meg.”
As the girl turned around she saw Isogai, who was also carrying a sword, and was flanked by Sugino and Maehara.
“Thanks, I’ll take that as a compliment.” Kataoka smiled. In the blink of an eye, both class representatives were crossing blades.
“Did you see that? Two people were running out of the building.”
Kayano and Kanzaki were sitting on the edge of the field, armed with a bow and saber respectively.
“I have a feeling things are really heating up in there,” The green-haired girl spoke up, “Should we try and go in?”
“Bad idea,” Kanzaki shook her head, “We’ll likely just get caught in the crossfire. But maybe you can hit some stragglers from the cover of darkness.”
“Couldn’t have said it better myself.”
Before either girl could react, a throwing dagger hit Kanzaki in the back.Kaede turned around seeing a glimpse of Hazama’s signature nightmare grin before the black-haired girl disappeared in the bushes. Kayano picked up Kanzaki’s saber and tried to spot Hazama, but couldn’t see her in the darkness. Even when the witch girl began to speak, it seemed to come from everywhere around her.
“I was originally going after the girls who stole from us, but I guess the guys will get them. You’ll suffice in the meantime.”
Suddenly a flashlight shone in Kayano’s face, completely ruining her night vision. Less than three seconds later, someone jumped on her back, pushing her to the ground and forcing her weapon out of her hand.
“I call this one the Osschaert Scuttle. Not bad, eh?”
As Kayano turned her head, Hazama’s ghoulish face stared back, raising a dagger for the final strike. The green-haired girl sighed as she accepted her fate, but she heard a whack and felt Hazama slide off her.
“Damn, that felt pretty good. You’d think the gavel would suit Kimura better, given his first name and all.”
“Okano, is that you?” Kayano asked as she got up.
“Hey Kayano, you still alive?” Okano answered with a smile, “You poor thing, that must’ve been terrifying, being assaulted by Hazama.”
“Of course, I take pride in my work.” Hazama groaned as she stood up and walked off to the graveyard.
Kayano felt around for a weapon. The game was still on, after all.
“What now, are you gonna kill me next?”
“Me?” Okano responded, “Nah, I’ll give you a pass this time. I think you’ve had it hard enough for now. Plus, you were great at distracting Hazama. Even I can’t see her in the dark.”
Kayano sighed in relief: “Thanks.”
“Don’t mention it,” Okano smiled as she picked up Hazama’s dagger, “Next time I won’t be so nice though.”
“Fair enough.”
As Okano disappeared in the trees, Kayano found Hazama’s flashlight and decided to retreat. She was alone, but at least she was still in the game.
“Damn, that was eventful!”
“No kidding, and literally right outside our doorstep.”
The dead people had been watching the fights intently, most of them already changed into gymwear and under a blanket. One by one Yoshida, Muramatsu, Hara, Kanzaki, Hazama and Kataoka came walking in.
“Well done, all of you.” Korosensei praised.
“Yeah, right. We blew it!” Muramatsu sighed as he sat down and grabbed a bento, “I can’t believe the girls caught us off guard like that.”
“Of course,” Irina spoke up, “I taught Yada and Kurahashi how to hide their bloodlust, a skill impeccable for infiltration assassins.”
“Indeed,” Korosensei added, “And Kataoka’s scheme to immediately hide inside the hotspot was brilliant. That being said, it seems you girls got a bit careless at the end.”
“I know,” Kataoka sighed as she wiped paint from her torso, “I hoped to at least take Isogai out when I let Yada and Kurahashi escape, but alas, he beat me to the punch.”
“Still, I bet you scored some brownie points with you-know-who.” Nakamura grinned as she playfully elbowed the class representative.
“I’m… not sure what you’re talking about,” Kataoka smiled awkwardly.
“Hara, you made good use of your strength,” Korosensei said as he turned towards the chubby girl, “But sadly, this made you predictable, giving Kataoka an easy way to counterattack.”
“Fair enough,” Hara smiled as she rubbed her head, “I guess I got somewhat overexcited.”
“As for you, Hazama,” Korosensei continued, “Once more excellent use of your natural abilities. you knew of the adversaries waiting outside, and gave yourself the home field advantage by attacking in the dark.”
“True,” Kanzaki spoke up, “I had no idea she was behind us until she spoke up.”
“The same can be said from Okano,” Karasuma spoke up, “In total darkness, I feel even I would struggle against those two.”
“Speaking of,” Korosensei said as he turned back to Ritsu, “ Any updates on the remaining 12 students, Ritsu?”
“Hmmmm,” Ritsu thought for a second before showing a map of the mountain. “ It seems Sugino, Isogai and Maehara are still in the building. Okuda and Fuwa are in the far north and seem to be sticking near the pool. Nagisa is more downstream in the northwest. Kayano has retreated west. After letting Kayano go, it seems Okano is still roaming the forests around the building. Yada and Kurahashi have fled south and seem to be setting up camp. Lastly, the other duo that abstained from attacking the building, Okajima and Itona, are staying south-east east.
“Everyone’s pretty wide-spread, eh?” Karma spoke up, “I wonder if anyone else will get slaughtered this night.”
“Unlikely,” Karasuma responded, “The initial adrenaline rush is dying down, and they’ll likely get tired as the night moves on. Okano might still try an attack on the building, but even she knows she should save her strength and energy and get enough sleep, at least on the first night. Over half the students is already in the graveyard, so their bloodlust should be satisfied for now.”
“Works for me,” Irina spoke up as she yawned, “I’d love to keep watching, but I’m getting tired as well.”
“Okie-dokie, you heard your professor. Everyone to bed. You’re all growing adolescents and you need your rest.”
“Yes Korosensei…”
Though the students initially got to sleep pretty easily, none of them was happy when they were suddenly awakened by six fireworks exploding above the building, resulting in a few bedtime assassination attempts on their teacher.
As Karasuma had predicted, not much more happened that night. Okano had tried to sneak into the building, but after losing half of their alliance, Isogai, Maehara and Sugino had chosen shelter into the storage room while sleeping in shifts, making a surprise attack impossible. Eventually, the gymnast had backed off and returned to her makeshift camp in the trees.
The next morning, Kurahashi was the first one awake, woken up by the chirping of the crickets as she and Yada had slept under some bushes near a field at the foot of the mountain. Using a flashlight and spray paint, Kurahashi even had done a quick paint job on their sleeping bags to camouflage them.
“Touka? Touka, wake up,” The girl whispered as she gave her best friend soft, but firm nudges.
“Hmmhh…” The other girl slowly awoke and rose up from her sleeping bag, a lock of her now loose hair in her mouth, “What time is it?”
“Waking up service Ritsu at your service,” Sounded from her phone. “It is currently 7am, which means there’s a max of 29 hours left on the clock.”
“Thanks, Ritsu.” Yada said as she got dressed, putting her assault vest and gloves back on and making her hair into her trademark ponytail.
“What about participant numbers?” Kurahashi asked. The orange-haired girl was already dressed and was folding up her sleeping bag before stashing it away. Even though their infiltration raid from the night before had not gone as planned, both of them had managed to escape with enough equipment and food to make it through the game.
“Right, let me update you on the current participants,” Ritsu answered before showing a list of dead and alive people, “Aside from you two, only 10 other people remain.”
“I see, it seems poor Meg didn’t survive the battle against Isogai and the others.” Yada sighed.
“ Hey, cheer up,” Kurahashi smiled, “Many dangerous people are already out. Let’s make sure one of us wins it for the team.”
“You’re right,” Yada responded, “And I know who to go after next…”
“Holy crap, last night was seriously rough!”
“Yeah, a victim increase of 66%. I think it’s a good thing we decided to stay put.”
Fuwa and Okuda were looking at their phone, getting an update from Ritsu. Unlike the other girl alliance and the boys building, their night had been rather unpleasant as they had to sleep in nothing but their battle gear.
“We still got about 29 hours on the clock,” Okuda spoke up, “What should we do?”
“For now, we should play it safe,” Fuwa answered. Most of our remaining classmates beat us in close combat, and we haven’t got any long-range weapons. I suppose we can try ambush tactics, maybe even try to build some traps.”
“Sounds good,” Okuda smiled with excitement in her voice, “In that case, I can even try to create something useful using my chemistry skills.”
“There it is. Attagirl.” Fuwa smiled.
It was already past 8am by the time Nagisa woke up. He had spent the night in his little cave and turned off his phone out fear of someone hearing him. Like his classmates, he was astounded by how many people didn’t survive the night.
“I suppose I should get out there, at least find something to eat.”
Just as he crawled out of his cave, he heard a rhythmic sound. definitely footsteps nearing his cave. If they came in, they’d definitely find him. which means he had no choice.
He grabbed a few of his shurikens and clenched them between his fingers. It was very crude, but if he managed to get a hit in, it’d count as a kill.
Suddenly, the footsteps stopped.
“Hell…?”
Before the person outside could finish, Nagisa jumped out and tackled them. The pair rolled over the damp forest floor and ended up holding on to each others armed hand with Nagisa on top, as he was looking in the golden brown eyes of…
“Kaede?!”
“Nagisa?” Kayano looked back at him with a visible blush.
The boy instinctively got off of her, dropping his weapons.
“I…I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.”
“That’s alright,” Kayano smiled, “I’ve seen worse last night.”
“Excuse me?”
“Oh, nothing,” The girl chuckled, “So, did you still want to kill me?”
“Right,” Nagisa said as he looked at a shuriken, “Honestly, it doesn’t really feel right anymore. If it’s okay with you, I’d rather team up for now.” He smiled.
“I… Uh… Sure. I don’t mind,” The girl responded, “I was paired up with Kanzaki earlier, but sadly she’s out of the game.
“Yeah, I noticed. What happened to her?”
“Taken out by Hazama in the dark. It was honestly terrifying.”
“Heh, sounds like her alright.”
“Well well, seems Kaede is shooting her shot.”
“Hmmm, is the show back on?”
Karma walked past the divider, carefully avoiding the still sleeping girls and plopped down next to Nakamura, who was already watching the continuation of the game on Ritsu.
“Good morning children.”
Korosensei walked in as well, wearing pajamas and accompanying headwear.
“Morning teach,” Karma grinned, “Had a good night's sleep?”
“Nurufufu, sure did,” Korosensei answered changing into his human disguise, “Now, while I appreciate your enthusiasm, I feel we should follow the progress with the whole class. So how about you guys wake up your classmates while I go fetch us some breakfast?”
“Sounds good,” Nakamura answered as Korosensei flew out the window. While the blonde girl shook the other five girls awake, a cacophony of groaning and cursing came from the other side of the divider.
“Aye, don’t step on me!”
“Dude, what’s your problem?”
“Grhmm, why so soon?”
“I’m already awake, asshole! Stop kicking me!”
“Guess you wouldn’t want Karma as an alarm clock…” Kataoka spoke up as she stretched her body and fixed her hair.
“All awake,” Karma said as he reappeared with an evil smile.
“Dude, you’re such a sadist,” Yoshida grumbled rubbing his head, “I think the girls would have it better if they were woken up by Okajima.”
“I… honestly doubt that.” Hayami responded as she put in her twin tails.
Before anyone could react, the door slammed open and Irina walked in, still wearing a translucent nightgown over her undergarments.
“Aaargh! Can you believe that square?!”
“Morning professor Bitch,” Kanzaki smiled as she brushed her hair, “What’s the matter?”
“It’s the square again. He gets a chance to spend the night with a gorgeous babe in the teachers lounge, but he ditched and spent the night in his goddamn car!”
“Seriously? he went all the way down just to avoid you? That must seriously sting.” Sugaya grinned.
“Don’t patronize me, brat!”
“Anyway, what’s going on in the game?” Kimura asked as he checked the screen.
“Not much really,” Nakamura answered, “Nagisa and Kaede were rolling around in the grass and paired up, but that’s about it.”
“Nurufufu, really now?” Korosensei asked as he took some notes in his gossip diary, “By the way, miss Irina, that’s a lovely piece of sleepwear.”
“Ah, shut your piehole!” Irina shouted as she stomped off back to the teachers lounge.
“Morning Korosensei,” Kataoka spoke up.
“Good morning class,” Korosensei said as he unpacked breakfast for everyone, “Ready for another day of watching the game? I also saw mr. Karasuma climbing the mountain on my way here, so he should be here soon.”
“Sounds good.”
“Dude, 500 yen says the next person to die is one of the girls.”
“You’re on!”
“Achoo!”
“Dude, you okay?”
“I’m fine. It’s just that I’m a bit more prone to the cold ever since I got my tentacles removed.”
“I get ya. Tonight was seriously cold. Wish we’d gotten our hands on some sleeping gear.”
Okajima and Itona were walking through the forest. Itona was armed with a crossbow, while Okajima was holding a large lance.
“I wonder where the others are,” Itona spoke up, “I know there’s only 12 of us left, but still…”
“Shh! Over there!,” Okajima said as he shushed Itona before pointing higher up the mountain, where a lone girl was sneaking around.
“It’s Yada! Let’s get her! She can’t take on both of us!”
“Sounds good,” Itona responded, “Just be careful, she might be armed with a long range weapon.”
The two snuck closer, but when they reached up to 20 meters from her and Itona started to aim, she turned around and saw them.
“dammit!” She shouted before running away.
“After her!” Okajima shouted, as he and Itona started giving chase. The pervert knew it was a matter of time before they’d catch up to her.
WHAM!
Okajima turned around, seeing Itona flat on the ground.
“Dude, you good?!”
“I’m fine,” The silver-haired boy answered, “Keep going before she gets away! I’ll catch up”
“Running after busty girls? Story of my life, buddy!” Okajima grinned before continuing the chase.
When Itona tried to get up, he noticed his feet were tangled in rope. Odd, he thought as he got himself free. There had been no rope when Okajima passed by. One end was tied to a tree, but the other end ran a bit further in the woods. He noticed a sleeping bag covered in camouflage paint dirt on the ground and as he looked further into the forest, he saw a flash of orange disappear between the trees.
“Dammit,” Itona said, “We’ve been had.”
Meanwhile, Itona had almost caught Yada, when she suddenly fell and landed hard on the ground with a yelp, clenching her leg.
“Damn, these roads are dangerous,” Okajima said as he pointed his lance at her, “Sorry Yada, seems this is the end of the line for you.”
“Wait please!” Yada shouted as tears were blinking in her eyes, “I think I seriously sprained my ankle. I can’t walk back like this.”
“Tsk tsk,” Okajima sighed, “What am I to do with you? If you surrender nicely, I’m happy to walk you back.” He squatted down and held out his hand.
A mischievous glint of bloodlust glanced in the girls’ eyes. Suddenly, the end of a whip was wrapped around Okajima’s neck. The busty girl pulled him forward, slipping from under him and quickly getting up before placing her boot on his back to keep him down.
“What the?! That was a trick?!”
“Yup, straight from professor bitches’ book,” Yada winked before pulling out her kunai and giving him a lethal jab, “She also gave a couple of lessons on how to use a whip against Korosensei, so I couldn’t resist trying it out in this game.”
The girl let go of him, quickly running off in the woods.
“That’s kinda hot…” Okajima groaned as he did a thumbs up.
“Clever girls,” Irina commented, “Those are my pupils.”
“Indeed,” Karasuma nodded, “Both yada and Kurahashi are good with knives, but close combat against those boys would be quite the challenge. Splitting them up was certainly the better call.”
“And such splendid use of their talents,” Korosensei added, “Kurahashi’s talent for natural colors and art and Yada’s manipulation tactics served as fine blades.”
“That being said, It is Okajima.” Kataoka smiled awkwardly.
“True, not sure anyone else would’ve fallen for Yada’s facade so easily,” Nakamura grinned, ”Except maybe Maehara.”
“Maybe even Isogai. He’d easily put his classmates’ safety over the game.”
“He’s prince charming!”
“Man, this is so boring.”
“I know, but this is our best bet. Hold down the fort and we can easily make it until the gladiator fight.”
Isogai, Maehara and Sugino were sitting near the entrance of the building.
“Those girls managed to snatch a lot of our stuff,” Maeahara sighed, “We can try to pack up the remaining goods and move around to catch some stragglers.”
“That wouldn’t work,” Isogai responded,”We’d be packed like mules and easy prey.”
“I know, but still,” The womanizer sighed again, “It’s been hours and nothing has happened save for Okajima getting killed earlier.”
“True, even if he didn’t look too bothered by it,” Sugino smiled, “Hold on, what’s that?”
Suddenly, a small object appeared over the treeline, flying towards the boys.
“This can’t be good,” Isogai shouted, “Everyone get back!”
The boys scattered as a bag landed between them, bursting open into a cloud of smoke that quickly surrounded them.
“What the? A smoke bomb?”
“It stings so bad! They put something in there!”
“It came from over there!” Maehara shouted as he ran of into the woods.
“Come back, Maehara! It’s too dangerous!” Isogai yelled after him as he was wiping stinging tears from his eyes, but the womanizer didn’t listen to him.
Sugino crawled out of the smoke, his vision vague and blurry. But from the corner of his eye he saw a figure running the field, getting on their knees and digging in the dirt. Throwing a paint grenade wouldn’t work with his current vision, so the baseballer opted for close combat, charging them with a baseball bat.
As Sugino reached the figure, he swung his bat, hitting something resembling a round shield that they pulled out of the dirt and instinctively used to protect themselves.
“Oh well,” Fuwa sighed, “C’est la vie.”
SPLAT!
The paint mine the girl was holding exploded, killing both her and Sugino in a colorful blast.
Meanwhile, Maehara arrived in the spot where the smoke bomb was launched, where he noticed rope hanging from a few young bendable trees.
“Dammit, they must’ve used those as catapults.”
Hearing rustling behind him, the boy ducked as the end of a staff shot out of the bushes and nearly hit him, followed by Okuda who was holding the weapon.
“Ah! I missed!” The girl shouted panicked.
“Yes you did!” Maehara shouted as he took hold of the staff, using his body weight to push her back and quickly striking her with his saber.
“Nice job, Okuda,” Maehara smiled, “You really got the drop on us the…”
But before the boy could finish, an all too familiar feeling struck him hard in the face, launching him backwards before a heavy weight landed on his chest.
“And it seems I got the drop on you,” Okano grinned as she quickly finished the womanizer.
“Okano!” Okuda shouted, “Where did you come from?”
“I’ve been hanging around,” The gymnast smiled, “Truth be told, I was gonna take you and Fuwa out earlier, but I heard you talking about taking down Maehara and the other boys using the mines, so I decided to wait and see. Good job on the chili bombs, by the way.”
“T…thanks,” Okuda smiled flattered, “We came across a crate of spices and some other stuff I could use to make them.”
“Nice work,” Okano answered, “Anyway, I should go before the others catch me. Toodles!”
Before either Maehara or Okuda could say anything else, the gymnast had already run off again.
“Damn, she’s scarily good at this…” Maehara groaned.
“Did you hear that? Another 4 fireworks!”
“That means there’s only 7 of us left.”
Nagisa and Kayano had settled in a hidden crevice that looked out over the pool.
“I bet something happened around the school building again,” Kayano spoke up, “That place has been a hotspot for battles since the start of the games.”
“You’re probably right,” Nagisa responded, “Let’s go check it out. Maybe we can take out some of the stragglers or find some more items.”
The boy slipped out of their hiding hole, but suddenly a crossbow bolt nearly hit him. As he stumbled back, the blue-haired boy slipped and rolled off the cliff and into the pool with a loud splash.
“Nagisa!” Kayano shouted, as she looked in the direction the bolt came from, noticing Itona as he finished reloading on the other side of the pool.
“I figured someone would try a stakeout here,” Itona spoke up, “Plus I recall the hiding spots from back when Shiro used me for the pool trap.”
Nagisa came back to the surface, coughing and disoriented.
“Nagisa, look out!” Kayano yelled as she jumped down to stop Itona, but it was too late. The blue haired boy was unable to get out of the water in time and was hit in the shoulder by the second bolt.
“Dammit!”
Kayano ran around the water with drawn blade, but by the time she had reached him, the silver-haired boy had dropped his crossbow and pulled out a set of batons.
“You sure you want to do this?” Itona asked, “Just like you, I have retained my kinetic vision, and I'm stronger than you.”
“You bet!” The green-haired girl responded as she went on the attack.
The two started dueling, but Kayano realized Itona was right. The boy was slowly forcing her back, nearly pushing her towards the pool a few times. As she couldn’t swim, this would be the end for her. Unless…
Moving backwards, the girl took a sudden jump backwards over the corner of the pool, creating distance between them as she reached into her backpocket and swung her arm forward.
As Kayano landed on the other side, Itona was standing still. Between his eyes flowed a trail of paint, with the shuriken Kayano had thrown at him on the ground in front of him.
“Seems like you got me,” The boy sighed, “I didn’t expect that for a second blade.”
“It was a lucky shot,” Kayano chuckled as she glanced at Nagisa, who had crawled out of the pool and was pouring water out of his boots.
“besides, it was Nagisa who was willing to share his blade with me.”
“Damn, people are dropping like flies out there.”
“Yeah, seems even top assassin Nagisa bit the dust.”
“Guess Korosensei’s not the only one weak to water.”
The whole class had once again settled on the platform outside (through the window, as Okuda’s homemade teargas had still been lingering) and was eating lunch provided by Korosensei.
“So with Itona and Nagisa taken out, that leaves how many people?” Sugaya asked.
“Only 5,” Kanzaki answered, “Kayano and Okano are now wandering on their own, Isogai is the last one standing of the initial big team, and Yada and Kurahashi seem to play it safe by using hit-and-run tactics.”
“Indeed,” Karasuma nodded, “From the remaining cast, Isogai would have the best chance if everyone manages to stake out until the gladiator fight. So the girls should try and stay vigilant if they want to win this.”
‘True,” Maehara spoke up, holding an ice pack to his face where Okano had hit him, “None of the remaining girls have a chance against him in close combat, except maybe Okano if she gets the drop on him.”
“Nurufufu, that’s why these games are so exciting,” Korosensei chuckled, “Close combat is only a small fraction of the kills in his fight, just as in actual assassination.”
“Ever the teacher, eh?” Karma spoke up.
“Nurufufu, of course. In every experience, there are lessons to be learned.”
Isogai sighed as he looked at the slowly setting sun. After losing both Maehara and Sugino, he had decided to leave the building and go on the attack instead. But he had underestimated the sheer size of the mountain, for he hadn’t seen a single one of his remaining 4 classmates yet.
‘Maybe I should’ve just waited and ambushed them,’ He thought. But alas, it was too late now. Night would soon fall again, and he had decided to stick it out until the gladiator fight.
Lost in thought, he walked behind a large bush as he noticed movement in the corner of his eye. On the other end stood Yada and Kurahashi, and both looked just as surprised to see him. For multiple seconds, nobody moved a muscle.
Then, Isogai quickly went for his blowgun, but Yada was faster. She swung her whip, wrapping the end around Isogai’s wrist, forcing him to drop the weapon.
“Now Hinano!”
The orange-haired girl quickly charged forward, wielding a small trident as Yada tried to hold the boy in place, but he was too strong, pulling the weapon out of her hands and making her fall forward.
With both hands free, the ikemen managed to avoid Kurahashi’s stabbing attack, grabbing the weapon and pushing her back into a tree, leaving her in a daze. He then turned towards Yada, who was already back on her knees holding a dagger, aiming the trident to kill her before she could do anything. But suddenly he lost his balance, as Kurahashi had jumped back up and grabbed his legs from behind.
“What the…? Are you out of your mind?!”
“Nothing of the sort!” Kurahashi yelled, “Just a simple fake-out.”
Thrown forward by Kurahashi’s momentum, the two crashed into Yada and all three started rolling downhill until they came to a stop in the field below.
“Ow ow ow…” Kurahashi groaned as she rubbed her lower back, “You guys still in one piece?”
“I think so,” Isogai responded as he got up and inspected his body, “But it looks like I’m out.” He noted as he pointed at a long streak of paint running over his torso: “You got the drop on me, Kurahashi. Congratulations.”
“Sorry,” Kurahashi chuckled, “You heard that, Touka? We beat our class president.”
“Nice,” Yada spoke up as she rose up from the long grass, “Though let’s skip the rumbling and tumbling next time. I think I actually sprained something this time.”
As the brown-haired girl sat up and began readjusting her hair, she noticed Kurahashi’s smile vanishing.
“What is it?”
“I’m so sorry, Touka…” The orange-haired girl responded.
Looking down, Yada noticed a streak of paint running from her back all the way to her hip.
“Oh, I see…It must’ve happened during our fall.”
“Well, nothing we can do about it now, “ Isogai smiled as he helped her up, “Let’s head back and cheer for Kurahashi and our remaining classmates to do their very best in the few remaining fights.”
“Thanks, prince charming.”
“He really is prince charming, isn’t he?”
“Dude, at this rate, I predict some polyamorous action between Yada and both the class reps.”
“Ssh, don’t let Kataoka hear you!”
Nearly the whole class by now had gathered around Ritsu, watching intently as one classmate after another dropped out of the game.”
“I have to say, that was rather bold,” Karasuma commented, “Throwing yourself at an opponent like that without a solid plan is quite reckless.”
“Well, they were up against one of the strongest combatants of our class," Maehara spoke up, “If Isogai had managed to hit Yada and turn it into a 1v1, our fluffy stag beetle would’ve been toast.”
“And don’t worry. I was ready to move into action if anything serious was about to happen,” Korosensei said as he held up a first aid kit, “No kids getting injured on my watch.”
“With the elimination of both Isogai and Yada, it seems only 3 people are left,” Takebayashi spoke up, “So if one more person gets eliminated, we’ll immediately move on to the final fight.”
“I calculate that chance is quite high, given the victim frequency.” Ritsu answered.
“Nurufufu, let’s see for ourselves, shall we?”
As Okano heard two more fireworks in the distance, she immediately turned around. If she had counted correctly, only 3 or 4 people were left. There was a big chance they would soon enter the gladiator fights, which means she had to stack up on weapons. Her hammer had served her well, but she’d prefer to use some blades in her final battles.
The gymnast eventually decided to head for the class building. If any of the boys were still alive, the chance was small they’d stick around an empty fortress. Which means there was bound to be some loot left.
As she left the woods, she noticed all of her dead classmates on the platform, sitting around Ritsu. Some even turned around and waved at her, but she decided to ignore them. Until she heard the wood creaking and felt a sudden simmer of bloodlust…
As she turned around, Kayano jumped in the air above her and landed right on top of her. Only by moving her head at the last second, the gymnast managed to avoid an immediate death by the knife that was now plunged in the sand next to her ear.
“Dammit,” Okano cursed as clenched her hands around Kayano’s wrists, “Who are you trying to copy, Nagisa on Nakamura or professor Bitch on coach K?”
“Either’s fine by me! We’ve learned from both!” The green-haired girl groaned as she had retracted the knife from the ground and was pushing it towards Okano’s body. Above them, their classmates were cheering them on.
“Come on, Hinata!”
“Do your best, Kayano!”
“Now that’s some girl on girl action, even though there’s a clear lack of bust si… Aye! I’m quiet, I’m quiet!”
“Fight hard, you two! The winner is bound for the finale!”
Feeling she’d lose the fight at this rate, Okano suddenly pushed the knife to the right, bucking her lower body as she managed to throw Kayano off. The green-haired girl rolled over the ground, quickly back on her feet and taking a fighting stance with the knife in her hand.
“Not bad,” Okano panted as she got back up as well, “But I did say I wouldn’t be so nice this time, didn’t I?”
‘Dammit,’ Kayano thought, ‘That was my best shot. Taking her out in close combat will be tricky.’
“Now, let’s finish this!” Okano shouted as she clenched her hammer for the last time and went on the attack.
Kurahashi got startled as her phone suddenly buzzed. Getting up from what she was doing, she quickly opened the screen and answered.
“Hello?”
“Congratulations, Kurahashi!” Ritsu spoke to her, wearing a cheerleader outfit as confetti flew around the screen, “You made it into the Assassination Classroom Hunger Games Finale!”
“I did? Really?!”
“You sure did.” The AI girl answered, “Now, you have one hour to prepare yourself and return to the E class building. At sundown, you and your final opponent will battle it out in front of the entire class.”
“Sounds good!,” The orange-haired girl smiled, “I’ll be there.”
As soon as the call ended, the girl immediately felt nervous. She wondered who her final opponent would be, and if she would be able to beat them. No, she would be able to do this. After all, she had been sharpening her hidden blade…
“Not gonna lie, this is seriously getting me pumped up”
“Yeah, it almost feels like a ceremony.”
“Was this seriously necessary?” Karasuma groaned.
“Nurufufu, nothing wrong with a little atmosphere,” Korosensei responded, “Even you have to agree this setting gets you excited for the upcoming battle.”
As the sun was setting, Korosensei had placed a large circle of tiki torches around the track, illuminating the darkened field. All the fallen students were sitting around within the circle as they awaited the start of the fight. As a bonus, Korosensei had engaged Sugino, Hara and Fuwa to play large drums while Ritsu played a blood-pumping background melody.
“There she is!” Yada shouted as Kurahashi appeared from the woods. She was wearing the hood of her combat gear and was armed with both a shield and a short, curved sword. As the orange-haired girl entered the circle, everyone started clapping and cheering, congratulating her on her accomplishments and making her blush.
“Hi there, didn’t think you’d be my final opponent.”
As Kurahashi looked to the other side of the circle, she saw her final challenger. A petite, lean girl armed with both a combat knife and a cutlass saber. Her short brown hair flowed in the chilly evening wind and the light of the torches reflected in her violet eyes…
“Hinata Okano, Hinano Kurahashi!” Karasuma shouted as the music died down. “Welcome to the end of this multi-day exercise! Both of you have done exceptionally well in making it this far! But now it is time for the final fight!”
“Well said, mr. Karasuma,” Korosensei continued, “That being said, every single one of these boys and girls have given it their all during this fight. All of you should be as proud of yourself as we are of you.”
“That’s all well and good,” Irina spoke up, “But don’t take the spotlight away from those girls. The fight isn’t over yet.”
“Nurufufu, wouldn’t dream of it,” Korosensei chuckled, “In fact…”
Korosensei moved quickly, and suddenly all the weaponry of both girls were applied with a fresh coat of paint. Violet for Okano, orange for Kurahashi.
“Nurufufu, now they’re really ready for the fight.”
“Very well. Begin!”
As the music started again and everyone started cheering for their favorite fighter, the girls started circling around each other.
“Well then, I didn’t expect we’d have our rematch of the Hina’s so soon,” Kurahashi smiled, “But this time I won’t lose!”
“We’ll see about that!” Okano grinned as she jumped forward, quickly closing the distance between them using her acrobatic skills.
Kurahashi braced herself as Okano made a flip and slammed both feet into her shield, launching herself back into the air before the orange-haired girl could counterattack with her sword.
“Ooh, that was good. Kurahashi’s gonna be toast at this rate.”
“Don’t give up, Hinano! You can do this!”
“Dude, I bet 2000 yen on Okano.”
“EXCUSE ME? NO GAMBLING ON YOUR CLASSMATES!”
Okano kept running circles around Kurahashi, who was barely able to block her using her shield. And whenever the orange-haired girl tried to strike back, Okano would simply jump backwards.
“This feels quite one-sided,” Irina commented, “Hinano’s barely able to hold her off.”
“Indeed,” Karasuma added, “When it comes to speed and agility, Okano is undefeated among the girls, and the only girl who can match her skills with a knife is Kataoka. Kurahashi is managing to tank her attacks for now, but the question remains if she’ll be able to do that until her opponent has spent all her stamina.”
“That seems unlikely,” Korosensei spoke up, “However, don’t count Kurahashi out just yet.”
Both girls were standing still in the ring. Okano was panting, and Kurahashi’s shield arm felt numb from all the blows she had taken.
“Feel like giving up yet?”
“Not on your life.”
This time, Kurahashi was the one charging forward, swinging her sword down towards Okano. But the gymnast reacted lightning fast, using both of her blades to parry the attack.
After a few seconds of struggling, Okano pushed back with a loud groan, and both her saber and Kurahashi’s sword flew into the air. Without a moment of hesitation, Okano swung her leg and kicked Kurahashi hard in the chest, sending the orange-haired girl flying backwards into the sand. Before she could get back up, Okano was on top of her, pinning her arm and shield to the floor.
“That was a great match, Kurahashi,” Okano smiled as she raised her knife, “But looks like I win.”
“Not…yet.” Kurahashi groaned. Looking with determined eyes at the slightly confused Okano, she whistled loudly. Suddenly, a pair of tiny eyes appeared in the space between her hair and her hood.
“What the…?”
Before she could react, a ferret shot out from under Kurahashi’s hood, jumping on Okano and clamping itself to her face and hair.
“What the hell is that?!”
“Is that a facehugger?!”
“Of course not, dumbass! It’s some kind of rodent!”
“Nurufufu, and there it is,” Korosensei chuckled, “Kurahashi’s ultimate hidden blade.”
As Okano was struggling with the ferret on her face, Kurahashi managed to slip one arm free, grabbing the kunai on her belt and swinging the blade, leaving a streak of dripping orange paint on Okano’s body.
“Gah…”
Okano’s body fell limp as she felt the fatal strike. As Kurahashi dropped her blade and carefully picked the ferret of her face, the gymnast looked at her red-faced and frustrated, with tears stinging in her eyes.
“That was a dirty trick.”
Kurahashi simply smiled and shrugged innocently as she caressed her pet: “I’m sorry, this was my second blade. There’s no way I would’ve won against you otherwise.”
Okano looked pissed for a few seconds, but then took a deep breath and wiped her eyes before getting off her.
“You’re right,” Okano smiled as she held out her hand and helped the other girl up, “You beat me fair and square.”
Suddenly, the whole class started clapping and cheering, congratulating the both of them.
“So what the hell happened?,” Irina shouted flabbergasted, “Did she seriously fight with a squirrel hidden in her uniform?”
“Impressive,” Karasuma spoke up, “Kurahashi has used animals in her assassination attempts before, but I didn’t realize she was capable of training them in only a day.”
“She’s actually been training him for weeks now,” Yada answered, “Ferrets are notorious for being able to crawl into clothes without getting caught, so we thought it’d be a great idea to slip the little critter into Korosensei’s robes to make him panic.”
“Nurufufu, quite an original idea,” Korosensei chuckled, “Though I guess I’ll have to schedule some content regarding the dangers of housing wild animals and diseases they can carry into our next biology class.”
“That being said, they’ve earned some praise and celebration for now,” Karasuma smiled as Kurahashi was carried around on Kataoka’s shoulders, “All of them worked hard and fought even harder, sharpening their individual blades.”
“Couldn’t have said it better myself.”
“So, what’s this little guys’ name?”
The whole class had moved back indoors and had moved their desks into one long table for a nice class dinner.
“It took me a while to think of something, but I decided to go with Chestnut.” Kurahashi smiled.
“Oh, because of his color?” Sugaya asked.
“Yeah, but also because his burrow is under a chestnut tree,” The orange-haired girl answered, “Bet the little guy is having a nap there now.”
“No kidding,” Isogai grinned as he was happily indulging in the food, “Fighting against Okano must’ve tired him out.”
“Not just him,” Kurahashi sighed as she leaned back in her chair, “I can’t wait to just lie down and relax.”
“You can do that after dinner,” Kataoka smiled as she patted her on the shoulder, “You and Okano both. The rest of us will take care of the cleanup and such.”
After dinner, Korosensei gathered all his students around for a final quick announcement.
“Now, since you all fought so fiercely and the game ended a lot quicker than expected, we’ll allow all of you one more sleepover night in the building, this time with the entire class.”
“Just don’t get any ideas, brats,” Irina spoke up, “No getting frisky with each other.”
“Do we really need to hear that from you?” The class deadpanned.
“However, let me once more congratulate you on your hard work, as well as point out one detail I’m exceptionally proud of,” Korosensei said as he blinked orange with a red circle, “I noticed that, even though this game was supposed to be survival on your own and backstabbing was fair game, none of you ever doubted your involuntary teammates. And in return, none of those bonds of trusts were ever broken. It’s a small detail, but it shows your undying loyalty towards each other, as well as the bond you have built as the E class.”
“Thank you, Korosensei,” The whole class responded as a wave of glee went through the group.
“That’s really nice of you, Korosensei,” Kimura spoke up, “But we can’t forget about one more thing: the winners’ prize.”
“Nurufufu, of course, where are my manners,” Korosensei chuckled, “For winning the Assassination Classroom Hunger Games, our very own Hinano Kurahashi is relieved from homework for an entire week…”
“And I get to have dinner with coach Karasuma!” The girl cheered as she looked at the stern teacher with hearts for eyes. Karasuma sighed, but smiled and gave her a nod.
“Sure, I guess you’ve earned it.”
“Well well, gotta admit even I’m a bit jealous,” Nakamura grinned as she rested her arm on the overjoyed girls’ shoulder.
“Watch out, professor Bitch,” Yada chuckled, “Seems you’re getting competition.”
“Sweetie, no one will be cracking that square before me.” Irina retorted as she flicked her hair.
“Anyway, now that that’s over with, let’s make the best of our time together,” Korosensei spoke up, “Let’s enjoy the rest of our sleepover, and of course, feel free to come and try to kill me in my sleep, nurufufu.”
“Yes sir!”
