Work Text:

He ran his fingers through her hair, tangling them in the curls. It was surreal to realize that if she had never let her hair grow, he would never have discovered its curliness. But in a way, it was obvious. Her mother's hair was curly too. Hers naturally had the likelihood of being so. He just hadn't thought about it before.

He couldn't look away when she brushed her hair at night, untangling knots with her fingers. Or when she tied a ponytail at the same height her mother did. Or when she braided her hair for special occasions. Or when she was too tired to style it and just made a messy bun, which was most of the time. Or when her curls dripped sweat onto his forehead, in a stuffy room with windows open and the door wide.

Theo's eyes moved to her face. He felt her fingers holding his chin.

She smiled.

"What's wrong?" Scott asked, her eyes shinning.

He shrugged. His fingers still tangled in her hair.

There was something fascinating about the way she smiled when he wound his fingers in her curls, in the laughter that echoed when he buried his nose in her hair, breathing in the familiar scent. Theo might not be a real werewolf. He didn't have the need to feel.

But still.

"Nothing much," he said, feigning casualness.

Scott lifted his chin and kissed his cheek. Theo closed his eyes for a second before bringing his face closer to her hair. They hugged in bed.

There was something fascinating about the way she whispered in his ear. Random things, sometimes. Compliments, most of the time.

Theo drank from her words, and from her scent. The scent that had always been intoxicating, from the times they used to skateboard and she asked him to lean on her so he wouldn't fall, to when his claws dug deep into her skin, piercing it. Lavender scent with fresh blood, the most intoxicating mix. Now, the smell was extremely soothing, as if the minute he was in her arms, everything disappeared. Even the darkest parts of his mind, creeping up to him exuding a scent of copper and sulfur.

He exhaled and inhaled deeply the smell of lavender.

Sky also tangled her fingers in his hair, winding them while still whispering in his ears.

Theo should let his hair grow too. It wouldn't be practical. It would probably be a bother. He didn't like feeling strands of hair stuck to his skin in the heat, nor when hair covered his vision. He didn't think any hairstyle would suit him either.

Yeah. He was going to let his hair grow.

She kissed his face again, tenderly. More tenderly than before. And that made him want to give back everything double, even knowing she would say "you don't need to" or "this isn't necessary". But she deserved much more than anything existing on earth.

Theo pulled away to cup her face in his hands and leaned in to her lips, tasting peach. There were still traces of the pink lip gloss she wore at work. Once a little girl with a german shepherd puppy had said it looked good on her, and since then she always wore it when attending to patients at the clinic. It was a typical thing. Typically sweet.

He ran his hands through her hair again and deepened the kiss, and she responded immediately. If he couldn't give back everything, he would at least try to give back as much as he could.

Sky took her hands off his hair to reach for the hem of his shirt, slipping her fingers under the fabric. For a moment, he felt a shiver, and considered slipping his hands inside her lacy top. To elicit the same reaction. But he couldn't stop tangling his hands in her hair. It was a feeling too strong to fight against.

She broke the kiss to quickly whisper in his ear.

I love you.

Instead of trying to respond to what he might not be able to respond to, he buried his head in her neck, smiling against her skin.

It was enough to catch her breath.

So it's okay. Seems enough.

He hugged her deeply then, drinking in her scent once more.
