Chapter 1: Welcome to Fairy Tail: The Celestial Wizard & The Fire Dragon

Chapter Text

Luna Heartfilia’s life abruptly change the moment she set foot in the port town of Hargeon.

It was just another town she was passing by on her way to collect more celestial gate keys.

You see, Luna was a rare type of wizard, a celestial spirit wizard. She could summon beings of the stars and constellations to aid her in battle.

Currently she stood in Hargeon’s only magic store, its owner showing off his wears much to her disinterest. Only one thing mattered to Luna, gate keys.

Luckily one caught her eye. The key was silver in color. It had a curled up scaled tail that looked reminiscent of a lollipop for the head and a weird two clawed paw for the teeth.

“How much for the gate key sir?” Luna asked, picking the key up gingerly and setting it down on the counter.

“A gate key huh?” The old man said, “let me see. Despite it being silver it is quite rare. But you seem like a nice lass so how’s about fifty-thousand Jewels.”

“Deal,” Luna said, slapping down the cash.

Money was no object when it came to her keys.

Luna walked away with a spring in her step and a new silver gate key attached to her key ring.

She couldn’t wait to meet her new friend.

Heading back towards her current lodging, Luna ran into a large crowd of women and got pushed around till she fell into a clearing in the center of the crowd.

Luna hissed as she scrapped up her hands and knees, grumbling about the crowd.

A hand came into her vision and she looked up to see the most beautiful man she had ever laid eyes on. He had styled deep blue hair and a suave way about him.

Luna took his hand with hearts in her eyes.

Her chest was beating so fast she wonder if there was something wrong with her. She’d never had such a reaction to a man’s looks before. Why was this man so different.

“Are you alright my darling?” The man asked.

Wow, what a voice.

Luna’s gead was filled with thoughts of the man and she had no clue why.

“Hey Igneel!” Yelled a voice.

Luna turned instinctively and saw a teen with spiky pink hair and a scaled scarf around his neck.

Suddenly the hearts and singing disappeared and Luna was in full control of her thoughts once more.

Shivers ran up her spine as she realized what had just happened. Luna had been charm spelled.

While the crowd and man were distracted by the teen, Luna snuck back out through the crowd and hide behind some crates, pulling her hoodie’s hood up.

She waited until things quieted down. Despite her now knowing about the charm spell, it could still affect her if she wasn’t careful.

Creeping out from her hiding spot, Luna found the teen from earlier and walked up to him and his talking blue cat.

Huh?

Maybe he was a celestial spirit wizard and the cat was a summon?

Luna shook her head and focused on her goal.

“Hello there,” Luna said, pulling her hood down, “I’m Luna. I just wanted to thank you for your help earlier.”

The pinkette blinked and turned to his cat.

“Huh? What’s she talking about Happy?”

“Dunno,” the cat, Happy said, “maybe she’s crazy.”

Lune ignored that comment.

“Sorry to confuse you,” Luna said, “you just helped me break out of that charm spell that weird guy was using when you barged in. Even if it was a coincidence you really saved me.”

“Oh,” the teen said, “well you’re welcome then.”

Luna felt her chest warm.

“Say,” Luna started, uncharacteristically feeling bold, “how’s about I treat you to some lunch, for your help that is.”

“Free lunch?!” The teen said, “count us in! I’m Natsu, by the way. And this is Happy.”

“Aye!” The blue cat cried.

Luna smiled, “great. I know the perfect place.”

~~~~~~
Luna sat down across from Happy and Natsu.
Plates upon plates of food laid before them.
Both Happy and Natsu were chowing down like it was the first time they had eaten in weeks.
“You guys sure were hungry,” Luna laughed lightly, dodging some flying food, “there’s no need to eat so fast, the food isn’t going anywhere.”
“It’s just so good!” Natsu said, slurping down some noodles.
“Aye!” Happy agreed, chomping on some grilled fish.
“So what brings you to Hargeon?” Luna asked, swirling her straw around her glass.
“We were looking for Igneel?” Natsu said, “someone told me a salamander was around here, but it wasn’t a fire dragon just some looser.”
Luna blinked, “you mean you were looking for a real dragon? Why would one be here of all places?”
Natsu opened his mouth and then hung his head, “well I didn’t think about that. I was just excited to see Igneel again.”
Luna frowned, “it’s okay, I’m sure you’ll find him eventually. I’ve never heard about any dragons and I’ve traveled all over, but that just means that when there is a sighting the news will travel all over.”
“Yeah,” Natsu said with a smile, “I guess you’re right!”
“So what brought you here Luna?” Happy asked, setting down his fish bones.
“Me?” Luna blinked, “well I’m a celestial spirit wizard, I’m trying to collect all the gate keys in the world so I can become friends with them all.”
“Gate keys?” Natsu asked, “what’s that?”
Luna smiled and pulled out her gate keys, “these are my keys, they represent the constellations that are found in the sky. You see the celestial spirits are from the spirit world, a world parallel to our own.”
“Yea,” Natsu said, “you lost me at keys.”
Luna laughed, “that’s okay, it’s a lot to take in.”
Luna let out a sigh, “though I will admit, being a nomad is tiring. Maybe I should find someplace to call home so I always have somewhere to go back to.”
“You don’t have a home?” Natsu asked.
Luna shook her head, “no, not a permanent one at least. I’ve mostly been camping out or staying at inns while I journey around all of Fiore.”
“That sounds lonely,” Happy said with a frown.
Luna shook her head with a smile, “it’s not so bad, I have all my friends right there with me.”
Happy smiled back, “that’s kinda like our guild. We have tons of friends that we can go on jobs with.”
“That sounds nice,” Luna said, “maybe I should join a guild.”
The conversation puttered off as Natsu turned his attention back to his food.
Luna waved the waiter down and payed the bill before getting up.
“Anyways, it was nice talking to you guys but I’ve gotta head out. I’ve got a train later tonight I’ve gotta catch.”
Luna gave a wave and headed back to here inn.
~~~~~~

Luna sat on the bed of her room, looking over her spirit compendium.

She had transcribed the book herself using both Crux, the southern cross constellation, and a compendium she found from her time in the Grand Magic Library.

The key she had picked up earlier seemed to be the key of the Chameleon.

Luna pulled it out and held it aloft.

“O spirit, answer my call and pass through the gate! Open gate of the Chameleon!”

There was an audible sound of a clock chime and a small puff of smoke.

When the smoke cleared a small green chameleon with rainbow spots appeared in front of her.

Luna smiled and kneeled down offering her hands for the spirit to crawl on.

The chameleon did and Luna lifted him up to be eye level with her.

“Hello there,” Luna said, “my name is Luna, and I’d like to be your friend. Do you have a name I can call you by?”

The chameleon shook its head with a little croak.

“Would you mind if I gave you a nickname then?”

The chameleon seemed to smile as if saying go ahead.

“How does Cam sound?” Luna asked the tiny spirit.

The chameleon chirped in contentment and Luna smiled.

“Then Cam it is,” Luna said setting Cam on the nearby table so she could pull out her spirit schedule, “how about we talk about your availability?”

Cam chirped in agreement.

Luna set into figuring out her new spirits availability.

Cam seemed to be available every evening but not mornings or afternoons.

“Thank you for your help!” Luna said, putting her schedule away, “I look forward to working with you.”

Luna held out a finger and Cam put his weird two toed foot on it in a form of handshake.

Then Cam disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Luna turned her attention back to packing now that she had meet her new friend.

~~~~~~
Luna walked through the train station heading for her train when the notice board caught her attention.
A familiar picture of a suave man with deep blue hair caught her attention. It was the man that had charm spelled her.
Frowning Luna read the notice only to find the man was wanted for human trafficking.
Luna remembered him talking about a boat party and how many girls he had probably charmed and her frown deepened.
Trouble was definitely afoot.
Luna turned around and headed for the stations exit.
She couldn’t stand for something like human trafficking to happen when she could stop it.
~~~~~~

Luna had taken out one of the men loading cargo onto Bora’s ship.

Using her new key of the chameleon, Luna had transformed to be the man she had taken out’s perfect double.

She loaded his cargo onboard and then started snooping.

To get these men caught, she’d have to find their written manifest, their list of ‘goods’ that all business dealings had, even the shady ones.

Luna searched around the ship and eventually found them, but the ship had taken off at that point.

It didn’t matter, Luna would just have to take over the ship and bring it back to port.

This called for finesse.

Luna let her transformation drop and thanked Cam for his help before pulling out one of her two bronze key.

She had gotten it from helping an old lady find her missing cat.

Who knew the cat would happen to be a celestial spirit and the old woman a wizard.

Being old in age and close to death, the woman had passed on her dear companion to Luna, hoping that she could bring companionship to Felis, the cat constellation.

Luna was overjoyed to do so.

From her observations, most of the men aboard the ship were normal humans. Only Bora seemed to be a wizard.

Using Felis’s key would make Luna as agile and flexible as a cat, with razor sharp claws. This suited her fighting style quite well.

Luna called forth Felis and the cat rubbed against her legs before turning into a belt with a moving tail that wrapped around Luna’s waist, completing her transformation.

Luna now had cat ears and her eyes and ears were much sharper.

Creeping forward, Luna started taking out deckhands one by one and locking them in rooms as she continued her journey through the ship.

Suddenly a large crash made the ship rock and Luna banged into the wall of the corridor with a curse.

Sprinting up on deck, Luna found Natsu from earlier, swaying unsteadily and looking quite green, facing off against Bora and the rest of his men.

“Natsu,” Luna called surprised, “what are you doing here?”

“Lunie?” Natsu said, hand over his mouth, “I didn’t know you were with this scumbags.”

“I’m not,” Luna said, “I came her to stop them. They’re human traffickers.”

“What!?” Natsu growled, then covered his mouth again as he went more green.

“Are you okay?” Luna asked.

“Natsu is fine,” Happy said, flying down to meet Luna, “he just gets really motion sick.”

“Motion sickness? I can help with that.”

Luna pulled out her singular platinum key and summoned forth her most powerful spirit, Phoenix the healer.

The firebird appeared in a blaze of rainbow embers, scaring back Bora’s men that had been edging closer during Natsu and Luna’s impromptu conversation.

Phoenix crowed and landed elegantly on the ships railing.

“Phen,” Luna called, pointing to Natsu, “please heal Natsu’s motion sickness.”

Phoenix crooned and flapped its wings, several feathers flew forth and danced around Natsu letting off a rainbow light.

Within seconds, the color returned to Natsu’s face and he stood upright with a feral grin.

“Alright!” Natsu crowed, punching his fist to his palm, a flurry of fire rising from it, “I’m feeling much better. Now it’s time to take out the trash!”

Luna closed Phoenix’s gate as she ran around the deck heading for the bridge.

“I’ll leave these guys to you Natsu,” Luna called as she climbed the stairs, “I’ll get us back to Hargeon, just don’t put any massive holes in the boat.”

“You got it,” Natsu said, charging forward into the waiting crowd of criminals.

Yelling and explosions sounded behind her, but Luna stayed focused on the bridge.

She had to get them back to port or they’d all be in trouble.

“Whatcha doing Luna?” Happy asked, flying down to meet her.

Luna opened the bridge door and went for the main console.

“I’m getting us back to port,” Luna said, starting to turn the ship back around, “it won’t matter if we take these traffickers down if we’re in open waters.”

“I guess you’re right,” Happy said, stepping up beside her, “anything I could do to help?”

Luna nodded, “can you keep a lookout for any thugs that sneak past Natsu? We don’t want any surprises.”

“Aye-aye, captain.”

Luna chuckled and focused back onto steering them into port.

This ship was much larger than a pleasure yacht, but the main controls functioned the same way. For once being a past heiress was paying off.

Luna straitened out as they headed back for port.

“Luna watch out!” Cried Happy.

Luna’s cat sense tingled and she flattened into the splits. Air whooshed over her as a man stumbled from trying to grab at her but missing.

Luna lifted herself on her hands and swung out with her legs viciously.

The man that had tried to attack her went down hard, knocking himself out cold on the console as Luna stood back up.

“Wow,” said Happy, “your amazing Luna.”

Luna smiled, “thank you Happy, but I can’t take all the credit. It’s thanks to my friend Felis that I’m so agile right now.”

“Celestial spirits sure are handy.”

“Yeah,” Luna said with a fond smile, “they’re amazing aren’t they.”

Suddenly there was a huge bump, like they had just gone over a pothole. The console started screaming and Luna hurried over to it.

“What happened!” Happy cried, holding his ears down.

“I was so distracted I didn’t noticed we were already back to shore! Where running aground! Brace yourself!”

Luna yanked on the throttle, turning it from high to off.

There was a screech of metal as the ship ran aground, finally coming to a stop on the beach of Hargeon port.

Luna let out a sigh, holding onto the console to stay upright.

“That could have gone better,” Luna said, picking up Happy and heading back for the deck to check on Natsu.

What she found was a deck full of passed out and beaten thugs, Natsu standing among them arms crossed.

“Hey guys!” Natsu called with a smile, “why are we all tilty now? And what was with all that shaking and noise.”

“Luna crashed the ship,” Happy said.

Luna’s cheeks colored pink, “not on purpose!”

Natsu laughed, “that’s okay Lunie, we can’t all drive a boat.”

Luna sighed and headed for the side of the boat.

“We should get going,” Luna said, keeping a careful hold of Happy as she straddled the ships railing, “the rune knights are probably almost here. I called them before I left with a tip.”

“Ah, crap,” Natsu said, jumping the railing and landing in the sand, “we got to get out of here!”

Luna jumped down and Natsu immediately grabbed her hand.

“What are you doing?” Luna asked bewildered, letting Natsu pull her along.

“I’m taking you to Fairy Tail, our guild.”

Luna blinked, “but why?”

“Isn’t it obvious Luna,” Happy said from her arm, “we want you to join us. It will be fun.”

“Yeah,” Natsu added, “you said you wanted to have a home right? So let’s go!”

Warmth bloomed in Luna’s chest and she let out a big smile.

Finally, she would have a home.
