Wilson's proposal

Summary:

Wilson takes House out to a monster truck race and proposes to him.

They are just really cute and wholesome and happy.

Notes:

Guys, I don't know how to write fluff honestly. They are way to happy here, why don't they just suffer?

Anyway, it feels kinda choppy and sorta glued together so I apologize for that. Enjoy :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: The Proposal

Chapter Text

Wilson had been planning this day for the past 3 months. He knows that House loves monster trucks, fast food, and snacks, so this will be the perfect way to butter him up for what he will ask of him today. There was no way in hell House could say no.

"What's the occasion?" House asks on the drive there. "You don't usually take me out so abruptly, especially not to a monster truck race." He fiddles with the cane between his legs. He seems on edge, Wilson notes. House always feels uneasy when he doesn't know something. It must be worse now, he thinks, he must think that Wilson's keeping something from him. Well he is but...

"I saw you had a very stressful case this week." Wilson kept his hands on the steering wheel, hoping House will take the bait and buy the half-truth.

He will not let House figure out his intentions for the evening. No matter how smart the diagnostician may think he is, Wilson can and will outwit him with enough planning. And he has certainly done his share of planning for the evening.

"No, it wasn't. If anything it was boring," House pouts, looking out the window, feigning boredom, but Wilson could see the cogs turning and churning in his head.

"Oh, so the rabies case was boring?" Wilson raises his eyebrow trying to spin the half-truth further. Surely House will buy it. Eventually.

In the meantime, a silver ring adorned with a small but elegant diamond is burning a hole through his jeans pants pocket.

"Yeah, soooo boring! It's all you're going to die blah blah blah, no we can't do anything about it yada yada." House throws his hands up into the air, cane laying still beside his seat.

"So your patient's death does not affect you at all?" Wilson quirks an eyebrow.

"She's not even dead yet!"

Wilson snickers "So, no?"

House turns his head to face Wilson who continues staring at the road ahead "No."

Wilson turns to face House "You're so adorable when you're pissed." He chuckles and eyes his boyfriend adoringly, love-struck grin bright and wide. It's funny to try and fluster him.

It seems to have done the job as the diagnostician blushes and turns back to face the window away from him "Well... you're the worst boyfriend ever." He pouts into the glass.

"Aw, don't say that!" Wilson chuckles and elbows House in the side "Would you prefer me to leave you at the office?"

"Ugh, when will this torture end!" House cries out melodramatically and wipes his palms over his eyes.

"Aww, I torture you, don't I?" Wilson smiles sweetly at his boyfriend. He knows that House isn't the best with having his emotions out in the open, but with him actions speak louder than words.

With the exception of the late nights they sometimes share, when House is high off his face on Vicodin or has drank too much and his inhibitions are lowered. On nights like those, he tells Wilson exactly how much he loves him.

House and Wilson lay on the sofa in front of the switched off TV, they had stopped paying mind to it a long time ago. They snuggle close up in each other's arms.

House lays his head on Wilson's shoulder while Wilson has his arms splayed protectively around his back. House is warmed up not only by Wilson's touch, but also the few beers he had before. They lay in relative silence, only the sound of their slow and steady breathing filling the warm thick air surrounding them.

The diagnostician tilts his head up to meet the oncologist's eyes who had been already looking down at him "You know I love you, right?" his eyes hold nothing but sincerity. Wilson can smell the alcohol on his breath.

Wilson lifts a sleepy hand into his hair and runs his fingers through it "I love you too," he kisses his forehead and they fall asleep wrapped in each other's arms.

Wilson shakes himself out of these thoughts, his focus back on the road.

"We're here." Wilson announces.

The both of them head to a giant stadium typically reserved for football games, but today they are going to watch monster trucks race and crush each other. Just House's cup of tea.

Wilson doesn't understand how he finds that madness entertaining, but all that matters is that House likes it.

The silver ring is still in Wilson's pocket, every now and again he remembers what he set out to do today. By the look on House's face he is failing to keep the nerves from getting to him.

"What's wrong with you?" House stares at him over the rim of his coke, leaning on his cane.

"N-nothing." He answers. Still, his voice is a little high pitched and his face a little pinker than usual. Why does he have to get nervous now of all times? He was fine on the way there, but now the reality of what he was going to do today slapped him in the face.

He was going to propose to House.

Wilson still can't believe it when he says it to himself, but he has gotten this far. He will not chicken out now.

House continues eyeing him at rhe the start of the race but looses interest as louder and bigger monster trucks roll onto the field.

But Wilson can't seem to focus on them at all. His thoughts drift to House. How will he react when Wilson proposes?

He supposses House has never been the unsure type. He won't try to save feelings like he has done countless times for his wives. House could reject him, even laugh in his face for ever conceiving of him wanting to spend the rest of his life with him.

But House loves him, right? He told Wilson that himself, but what has he had said many more times: everybody lies, might hold more true. Besides, love and commitment are two very different things (as he knows himself very well), so he shouldn't be surprised if House just flat out says no.

Despite this, Wilson has to propose. His heart tells him it's the right thing to do, even if his past experience says otherwise.

"I see the smoke coming out of your ears. What's up with you today?" Wilson realizes House has been staring at him instead of watching the race for some time now. House continues staring, nonchalantly munching on his popcorn as if Wilson is the most interesting thing in the world.

Wilson tries his best to keep a neutral expression "I already told you, I'm fine."

"Yeah right. I'll find out what's wrong before this day's over."

Oh yes you will, Wilson thinks.

As the biggest monster trucks blow off their last steam, Wilson steels his resolve. He is ready.

In one swift motion he gets down on one knee in front of House. He pulls out the elegant navy box which hold the ring, opening and offering it to him.

"Will you marry me? For real this time."

House stares wide-eyed and slack-jawed at him. Wilson's heart is so far up his throat that he almost spits out it from the tension. This is it, House rejects him and his life is over. Just say no and get it over with, Wilson is about to explode from the suspense, his ears are going pink.

He just continues kneeling and staring up at House's wide-eyed face.

After what feels like an eternity to Wilson, House responds "Yes,"

Ohmygoshohmygosh

Wilson's heart is clattering about his ribcage. He's probably red all over now too. Oh well.

Wilson slides the silver ring onto his left hand's ring finger. He looks up at House with the most love and adoration he can muster and when House meets his eyes, he looks down at him, his blue eyes sparkling telling Wilson he wouldn't rather be anywhere else.

House takes Wilson's gently arms and pulls him up for a kiss. The kiss is chaste and doesn't last long as House pulls away to whisper in his ear "I won't end up like the other Mrs. Wilsons, will I?" he jests.

Wilson softly cups House's jaw and turns his head to in turn whisper in his ear "Never."

That is enough confirmation for House as he pulls him back in for another kiss.

A few people divert their gazes from the game and onto the pair, but they don't mind. Wilson relishes the taste of coke on his lips before they part.

He basically drags the diagnostician away to where the crowd is less dense, away from prying eyes. Then, Wilson uses both his hands to hold House's cheeks and stare him straight in the eyes. Oh how beautiful he looked, icy eyes and kiss swollen lips still glistening with dribble. How he could stare into those eyes forever.

And soon, he would. He had just gotten engaged to House after all.

Wilson feels House rest his hands atop his, fingers comforting and soft. He is met with his equally intense gaze.

"You're mine, you know that," Wilson giggles and brushes their noses together. He sees House grin back at him.

House brushes his thumb over the ring on his left hand "Forever."
