Wolfsbane
A Kanashiho AU
Chapter 1
“Hmm I should find these flowers… what were they called?…” The florist thought as they walked in the forest. They pondered the name, when suddenly, they heard rustling in the bushes. “Huh!? Who’s there?” The florist called out. Nothing. The florist looked around scared.
A deep growl came from a nearby bush, scaring the florist more. Then, something jumped at her. Out of nowhere, something, or someone else, with gray hair- jumped in, growling at the attacker. “Leave her alone.” The gray haired one said. that thing… whatever it may be, snarled at the protector. “Stay behind me miss.” The florist nodded.
After a while the person - she didn’t know - Said, “Leave her alone. We agreed humans shouldn’t be our prey at all. Would you want my sister to behead you?” The thing then said “No… you’re cruel to think I’ll ever stop trying to kill a human. After what they did to us-“
“-What they did? My father was one of us, and my mother was a human. My grandfather and grandmother didn’t care as long as they loved each other! We werewolves vowed to not harm humans!” The gray-haired one interrupted. The thing sighed, “Fine. But be warned human. I will find you one day, and I’ll get my revenge on you pitiful humans. Mark my words.” The attacker growled and then went back to the forest. the werewolf sighed in relief.
“Sorry about them… um - my name is Shiho Hinomori, the leader of the werewolves. And yours?” The florist looks at the gray-haired one, now knowing her name - Shiho. Instead of answering the question, the florist asked, “..You’re a Hinomori? Your sister…”
“My sister is Shizuku Hinomori. She was born human, while I was born a werewolf… we both promised peace to our species’ after our parents died.” Shiho said, looking at the florist. She asked her question again - “What’s your name human? Why are you out here, so deep in the forest? It’s dangerous.” The florist shook her head, “I’m sorry. My name is Kanade Yoisaki, I'm the florist of the Hinomori kingdom. I was looking for a flower known as Wolfsbane.” That was the name she was trying to remember.
Shiho looked at Kanade. “You want… a poisonous flower?” Kanade nodded “I’m skilled with flowers.” Shiho’s tail wagged a little, and her ears slightly flattened “I know where there is some, but should you get the seed? What’s so important about this flower?” Kanade smiled. “Queen Hinomori wanted them for a flower festival. I have no idea why, but she said that it was very important.”
“Do you always take orders from every one?” Shiho stares at Kanade. She blinked. “…Ah? Should I not? She’s the Queen!” Shiho laughed. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding - I have some with me, come now. Ah - While you’re at it, I want you to take this letter to my sister.” Shiho’s ears perked up.
Kanade nodded and followed Shiho “Don’t mind the other wolves - they’re harmless. But, who you just met is apart of the ‘rebellion’. Don’t threaten them. But, thou shalt be under my care and be not harmed.” Shiho said. Kanade looked confused. “Rebellion?” Shiho stopped and looked at Kanade. She should give the human some context - “Back then, around 20 years ago.. Humans used to kill us for money. My grandparents on my mother's side wanted to stop the killing. My father and mother met, and they fell in love. The werewolves hated it. Well, most of them. We finally made peace, but A future leader falling in love was a crime. And especially with a human - Every human they thought would fall in love with a werewolf. They… would kill the human…” Shiho looked saddened. “My parents died protecting me and my sister. We were so young to rule a kingdom… luckily, a family member took over till my sister was old enough to rule the kingdom and I left to rule the werewolves.”
“I’m… so sorry… I know how it feels to lose your parents…” Kanade looked saddened as well. Shiho shook her head. “It sucks. But the werewolves hated peace, so went to war. They have hated humans ever since.” Shiho finally reached the place where her group stayed. She quickly changed the subject. She gestured to the home. “It’s not a lot, just some people I knew since I was little. We have different packs but I’m the leader of all werewolves!”
Then out of nowhere a yellow werewolf with a pink ombréd fur jumped on Kanade. Kanade was startled. The yellow one excitedly spoke. “Oooooh, a human! Shiho, why did you bring a human to our place!?” She joked. Shiho started to laugh. “She’s harmless, I promise. The rebellion-“ Shiho snarled. “- tried to kill her. I needed to bring her to the other pack leaders.” “They tried to kill another human?! Oh you poor human! Are you hurt? Do you need any medicine?” A brown werewolf said, approaching Kanade also. The florist shook her head.
“I’m fine really… I’m not harmed.” Shiho looksed at the brown werewolf. “The yellow one is Saki, and the brown one is Honami.” Shiho whispered into Kanade’s ear, introducing the two. Hearing the commotion, a black-ish-blue werewolf came out of the den. “What’s going on?- oh… a human… hello.” Kanade waved. “Ah, hello.” She replied gingerly. Shiho chuckled. “That’s Ichika.” They all said hello. Shiho looked at the sky and growled “What’s wrong?” Honami asked. Shiho’s tail twitched “It’s the meeting…”
“Your worried about her, aren’t you?” Honami gestured to the white-haired one. “Speaking of which what your name?” Honami’s ears twitched “O-oh, I’m Kanade Yoisaki, a florist from the Hinomori kingdom.” The 3 girls gasped. “you know Queen Shizuku!?” Saki asked, surprised. Kanade spoke to the interested werewolves, “She likes to come to my flower shop so, kinda…”
Shiho stopped the conversation. “Listen, I’m worried about Kanade because of the rebellion. Maybe we can take her.” Honami looked at Shiho “What about the other pack leaders? They won’t accept-“
“They will whether they like it or not. I’m the leader of the werewolves, so they have no choice but to like it. If they don’t, they’ll be banished from all the packs.” Shiho said sternly.
“Then we’ll take her, and she’ll be right next to you.” Honami stated. “Then, let’s go.” Shiho said, and all 5 girls left the den and went on deeper in the forest Shiho held Kanade’s Hand in hers. “Just stay by me, you won’t get hurt if anyone tries anything.” Shiho said while holding Kanade’s hand. Shiho being super protective.. It made Kanade blush.
The group finally came to the meeting spot. They were the first ones there. “Normally the and older wise werewolf who’s been here ever since Shiho’s mother and father met comes next- actually he should be here in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1-“ As if on cue, a group of werewolves came with an old wise leader. “Ah, Hinomori. Hello- oh. A human… what happened?” He looked at Kanade. “The rebellion. She was looking for flowers for my sister… you can guess what happened.” Shiho stated, getting closer to Kanade.
“Hmm.. glad you brought that up, young one. The rebellion killed 5 human children.” the wise werewolf said. Shiho’s eyes widened at this news. Her ears perked up. “Children!? That crosses the line.” Shiho flattened her ears, growling. “That’s horrible..” Kanade finally said. The wise one looked at Kanade and smiled. “We will stop them one day.”
Shiho nodded, and whispered to Kanade (lowering her head more than usual since she wasn’t accustomed to the placement of a human ear), introducing the wise one. “Don’t mind her, Kanade, she’s very sweet and caring when you get to know her! She’s widely known for taking in human kids of the rebellion whose parents had been killed, and training them to kill the rebellion.” Kanade’s eyes widened. She was impressed. The wise one spoke. “Alright, hello to you two- Woah, a human?! Did Hinomori bring her?” Shiho nodded. “The rebellion tried to kill her. It’s not safe for her to stay at my den with my pack, so she has to come with us.”
“Oh I don’t mind that. The human pups I raised all became warriors for the Hinomori kingdom.” The wise one looked at Shiho. “You look sadder, what’s wrong?” Shiho gave a serious look. “The killed 5 human children…”
“They did what?” She growled. “Humans saved my life.. They don’t deserve this.”
After a while, another wolf came after another, with their leaders. There were 9 leaders, 10 if you counted the rebellion leader. Since all the pack leaders were in attendance, Shiho spoke. “Werewolves. I am your leader, Shiho Hinomori. Today it was brought to my attention that we need to do something about the rebellion! They killed 5 human children and tried to kill this florist.” Shiho pointed to Kanade. The packs started talking to eachother in worry. “Silence.” Shiho said, everyone went quiet, until one werewolf spoke up. “What are we- no, YOU going to do? We can’t fight the rebellion werewolves!?”
Shiho looked at the one who spoke. “I have.. no idea yet. That’s what i’ve gathered the pack leaders here to talk about.” Shiho signaled Kanade to come closer, which the florist did. Shiho wrapped her tail around Kanade, making the poor florist blush. “..But, for now, if you see any of the rebels.. kill them or take them as prisoners. Let your leaders do whatever. This meeting is over. You all may leave.”
“Wait, Shiho.” The wise werewolf spoke. “Hm?” Shiho turned her head at them. “Tomorrow, I’ll need speak with you alone. For now, I’ll get the strongest warriors in my pack to take you 5 back. I know Miss Yoisaki can’t leave for the night, so she’s staying with you, correct?” Shiho gave a nod. “Then, I’ll get my strongest to stay with you. I know you don’t like that, and you’re stronger than all of us, but…” he looked down at his feet “I’m worried that your pack will get hurt. Let them stay for the night, please.” Shiho looked at her friends, who all gave a nod, then she looked back at the wise one “Fine. But for one night.”
“That’s fine with me. I’ll like to speak with you tomorrow.. I have a plan for the rebels.” The wise one said. Shiho nodded. “Fine by me, tomorrow morning or at noon?” The wise one replied, “Morning. Is that okay with you?”
“That’s fine by me. Stay safe.” Shiho warned. The wise one waved to his two strongest, a short-and-brown-haired werewolf, and a pink werewolf. “This brown werewolf is Ena, and the pink one is Mizuki. They will keep an eye on you 5.” The wise one said
“Greetings.” They both said. “Fine, they can stay one night. Come on, let’s go.” Shiho flicked her tail, signaling her pack and the new wolves to come along.
“Wow, a human! I haven’t seen one since I joined the packs!” Mizuki said, eyeing Kanade. “What does that mean..?” Kanade asked. Ena stepped in “Mizuki and I were raised by 3 humans. One of them was our age, and her parents-“ Kanade stopped Ena. “I remember taking care of two pups, they were so adorable… they looked like you actually… wait… I remember both of you!” Ena and Mizuki wagged their tails in excitement and surprise. “I knew I would remember that scent anywhere! How’ve you been!?” Ena said happily. “it’s been… okay-ish… my parents died…” Kanade looked down, almost shedding a tear.
Ena’s and Mizuki's tails stopped wagging suddenly with the shift in tone “Oh…! I’m so sorry…” Mizuki said. There was an awkward silence until Shiho finally spoke up. “Hey! We’re almost here.” They all continued walking until they reached the den. Kanade was talking to Shiho, while poor Honami was as red as a rose talking to Ena and Mizuki. Shiho whispered in Kanade’s ear. “Honami has always been in love with Ena and Mizuki, it looks like they like her back. Maybe they’ll try to sleep in her den” Shiho and Kanade giggled about it.
They finally made it to the dens “Kanade is staying with me.” Shiho said sternly, at which all of them nodded. “Mizuki and I will stay with Honami then” Ena said (more excitedly than she should, to which, upon noticing this, Honami’s face turned red), “I’ll stay with Saki.” Ichika said, to which Saki nodded quickly. “Then it’s settled. You may sleep or eat or whatever… just be safe please.” Shiho said to the crowd, to which they all nodded. Kanade followed Shiho to her den. “Hey…” Kanade started. Shiho stopped and turned around to look at her, her ears perking up. “What’s wrong?” The grey-haired girl asked, walking to Kanade. “Thank you…” Kanade smiled. “For what?” Shiho ears flattened. Kanade continued. “For saving me today… I would’ve been dinner for the rebels.” Shiho’s lips curled into a smile, her face slightly turning red. “Um- you’re welcome Kanade.” Kanade started to blush a little as well. Her smile grew wider, noticing excitedly that Shiho remembered her name.
“Have you eaten? I can give you fresh fruit!” Shiho asked. Kanade nodded. “That would be nice.. thank you.” Shiho went on to get some fresh fruit. After a few seconds, Shiho came back to Kanade wagging her tail as if she was a werepup. “It’s not a lot, but I hope this helps. Please eat.” Shiho looked at Kanade expectedly. Kanade took the offer of food and started eating the fruit, they were amazing. Shiho smiled as Kanade finished the last piece of fruit. “Thank you Shiho. It was delicious.”
“T-Thank you for eating..” Shiho blushed, realizing this was a bit of a weird thing to thank someone for. “It’s almost midnight, we should get some sleep. Come sleep next to me, it’s going to be a cold night,” That made Kanade blush (more than she already was). “I wouldn’t want to intrude on your space-“ Shiho interrupted the florist. “It’s fine, Kanade. A human will never last in the forest without warmth. Come. Sleep next to me.” Shiho didn’t know if this was genuine concern, or she just wanted to sleep next to Kanade.
Kanade reluctantly agreed to it, and settled next to Shiho, noticing she was super warm. The bedding was super soft as well. Kanade’s eyes became heavy as Shiho grabbed Kanade tightly, letting Kanade feel all the warmth of both of them. They both turned redder in the face. “Sorry…” Shiho whispered “I have the urge to just protect you… not because you're a human but something else.. I can let go if you want.” Kanade, in surprise of herself, shook her head. “No, no. It’s fine… I like it.” Shiho turned even redder than before. “Well- um- g-goodnight Kanade.” Kanade nodded “you as well Shiho.” Kanade’s eyes shut, she couldn’t open them. She felt Shiho’s heartbeat, and it slowly drifted her to sleep.
Shiho, on the other hand, wrapped her tail around Kanade. Kanade’s soft breathing made Shiho’s heart flutter. The patterns of Kanade’s heartbeat was perfect, sounding like a song. It reminded her of a song that Shiho’s mother used to sing to her and Shizuku.. Shiho wanted it to stay like that forever. Kanade in her arms, the song-like heartbeat, and the soft breathing, Shiho loved it. She held Kanade slightly tighter - not enough to where Kanade would wake up, but just enough so Shiho thinks she’ll feel more protected. Shiho’s eyes soon shut following a soft breathing pattern along with Kanade.
