Notes:

Well... Hello all, This is my official first Fic and it has taken a lot of courage to get here today. but with the encouragement of my creator friends, here I am. Thank you all for your help and inspiring words.
I first got into the fandom world early last year shortly after a spinal surgery. I started with listening to every dramione audiobook I could find starting with Manaculed. Now today I am 6 months into my own Podcast reading dramione fanfiction as well. it brings me so much joy.
This story was inspired my Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire but with a bit of a twist and only based on the Yule Ball and leading to it. I hope you like it and will follow me for hopefully more Fics to come.

I do not own these characters.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

                                   Chapter One

Draco Malfoy stood alone in the Slytherin common room, the weight of his conflicting emotions pressing heavily on his shoulders. It was two days before the Yule Ball, and though most of his friends had found dates, Draco still hadn’t asked anyone. He knew exactly who he wanted to ask—- he’d known it since their very first year at Hogwarts. Hermione Granger, with her brilliant mind and fierce spirit, had captivated him in ways he could never admit to anyone. But his father’s harsh words echoed in his mind, poisoning the purity of his feelings. “Her blood is not pure, Draco,” Lucius Malfoy had sneered. “She’s nothing but a filthy Mudblood.” Draco despised his father’s bigoted views and obsession with power and status. He swore he would not become the man his father wanted him to be. Taking a deep breath, Draco resolved to follow his heart, no matter the consequences. Hermione Granger would be his date to the Yule Ball, and he would prove that love, not blood, defines a person’s worth.

As Draco walked down the long path to the Black Lake, and eerie feeling crept up his spine, making the hairs on the back of his neck  stand up. He had the distant impression that someone or something was watching him. His hand instinctively went to his wand, and with a flick of his wrist, he cast a silent Lumos, illuminating the path ahead of him with a soft, glowing light. As hr continued to move forward, a delicate aroma wafted through the air, a blend of sweet vanilla and honey. The familiar scent triggers a flood of memories, and Draco instantly knew who was trailing behind him. There was only one person whose presence was always marked by such a comforting fragrance; the realization brought a mix of emotions, both of anticipation and unease.

Hermione walked nervously down the same path as Draco to the Black Lake, draped in Harry’s Invisibility Cloak. She had no idea what had come over her what she had stollen it in the first place, but she knew one thing for certain: she liked Draco and she wasn’t going to that Ball alone. Her heart pounded in her chest as she watched Draco from a distance, his platinum blond hair gleaming in the moonlight. She took a deep breath, gathering all her courage, and stepped closer. She hoped with all her heart that this bold now would lead to something wonderful, even if the odds seemed impossibly against her.

Draco paused abruptly, sensing a familiar presence behind him. He couldn’t see her, but her distinct scent gave her away— it was Hermione. Determined to confirm his suspicion, he can to a sudden halt. Hermione, caught off guard, collided into him, nearly losing her balance. In a swift motion, Draco extended his arm, catching her just in time. “Ah—thank you, Draco,” Hermione said, her voice tinged with shyness. Draco looked at her with a I’d of amusement and mild annoyance. “Next time, Be more careful,” he replied, his tone firm yet not unkind.

Hopeful Draco asked, “Care to join me, Hermione?” Her golden brown eyes met his blue-silver gaze, and for the first time, her thought he saw her smile— especially at him. With an astonished look on her face, her cheeks  turned a light pink. She smiled warmly and said, “Yes.”

Hermione’s mind was in a whirlwind of confusion and excitement. She could hardly believe what was happening—was she dreaming? But no, the sound of Draco’s voice interrupted her thought. He asked if she wanted to joi him, and her headset soared. Overwhelmed with joy, she felt like she had screamed her enthusiastic reply: “Yes. Yes, yes, yes!” Now, she just needed to muster all her Gryffindor courage to take the next step and ask him out. Hermione knew it wouldn’t be wary, but the thought of Draco made her determination stronger then ever.

Draco and Hermione walked toward the Black Lake in silence, until Draco filly broke it, “Why are you following me? Shouldn’t you be off with your precious Redhead!” Draco bit out. Hermione stopped and stared at him in shock. “I-I…Nevermind, Malfoy. I guess it doesn’t matter, there’s no way you could ever…” Hermione voice trailed off hopelessness evident in her eyes. She looked down unable to finish her sentence, and started to walk away, leaving Draco to ponder over what she had left unsaid.

Draco hesitated for a moment, his usual confidence wavering. “I couldn’t ever what?” He repeated his voice barely above a whisper. Hermione, her heart heavy with doubt looked up slowly, meeting his gaze. “There no way you could ever like someone like me,” she said, her voice tinged with sadness and resignation. For a moment, the world seemed to hold its breath, as they both stood there in the silence, grappling with the weight of unspoken emotions.

Draco finally looked up at Hermione, walked over to her slowly, gently took a small sieve of her hair between his finger, and then tenderly touched her cheek before softly rubbing his fingertips over her bottom lip, Then with a sly smirk on his face asked. “Hermione?” “Hmmmm” she replied her voice barely above a whisper. “Will you be my date for the Yule Ball?”

Hermione’s eyes widened in surprise, her mind racing to process the unexpected return of events. She had always thought of Draco Malfoy as an adversary, someone who represented everything she opposed.Yet here she was, his touch gentle and his eyes filled with an emotion she couldn’t quite decided. The Yule Ball an event she had looked forward to, but never in her wildest dreams had she imagined this scenario.Hermione took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest. “Draco,” she began, her voice trembling slightly “I… I don’t now what to say.” Draco”s smile softened, and for the first time, she saw a vulnerability in him that she had never noticed before. “Just say yes,” he whispered, his finger lightly caressing her lip. Hermione felt a mix of emotions—confusion, excitement, ad a strange sense of possibility. “Yes,” she finally said, her voice gaining strength. “Yes, I’ll be your date.” Dracos smile widened, and for a moment, the world seemed to stand still as they stood there, caught in a moment of unexpected connection.

Hermione was still in shock as the two of them slowly walked back to the castle, smiles on both of their faces. She couldn’t believe that she as going to the Yule Ball with the one person she had always dreamed of. The excitement bubbled within her, but deep sown, a knot of anxiety twisted in her stomach. She knew that Harry and Ron, her two best friends, might not take the news well. They has always been protective of her, and their reactions could range from disgust to downright fury. Yet, as she glanced at her date, she felt a surge of confidence. This was her moment, and she was determined to enjoy it, no matter what.
