Chapter Text
People milled around the building that looked like any other business block. Yamcha had been in dozens over the years, but the knowledge that this one held his blackmailers made his skin prickle.
"This feels so weird." Puar said, holding onto Yamcha's shoulder. It had become a common perch over the past few years, a source of safety when they were out in public.
"Just stay as close as you can. I won't let anything happen to you. The only people with any real power here are the guys in green shirts. And even then they aren't even as strong as Satan."
"Pretty certain even Oolong could take one out."
Yamcha turned to See Chioatzu standing behind him. And then he got confused, "Urm, where's Tien?"
"He's making sure Master Roshi doesn't get distracted."
Yamcha looked towards the entrance and saw Oolong and Tien heading towards them, with a cheerful Roshi between them
"Je hasn't caused a ruckus already has he?"
"No, but Tien doesn't want any bad behavior. Oolong knows when to behave, but Roshi...."
On his Shoulder Puar shuddered. "Yeah. He really needs a firm hand sometimes."
Before Yamcha could greet them, a pretty Red headed Lady showed up and greeted them.
"I am Suno. Goku has probably told you about me."
"He did." Tien said, "Apparently you used to be a good person."
Yamcha decided to step in. "I think what my friend is trying to say is he wishes our meeting was under happier circumstances." He glowered at Tien, "Doing a poor job of it."
"Do not apologize for me." Tien said.
Suno interrupted them. "I know things aren't the best right now, but hopefully we will come to an understanding when you see what we are trying to do here. Mr Chestnut arrived earlier today with his wife, so we'll go join them in medical."
"Medical?"
"Just a few baseline tests." Suno explained. Height, weight and such. After that we will be showing you how to use the sensor kits that will be used to monitor your power levels for the next few days."
"And what will they do?" Chioatzu asked.
"The doctors can explain that better than me." Suno said and led the way. The offices were normal as any other, people going about their jobs.
Suno began to speak again. "Most of the people here are just regular workers. They haven't joined fully with Sunrise, being a basic work contract. Only the medical wing and upper management know what SunRise is for."
Roshi stretched his sense to see if anything was hidden. Suno was a normal human, but her ki was slightly higher than average. If a normal human sat at 4-5, then she was at 1-2. Not really much power, but it would give the average mugger a problem. The rest of the building was filled with normal humans. Except ahead of them was the familiar ki of his student.
They reached a set of doors with a scanner on it, which Suno was able to open. "Once fully inducted you will be given nearly full access to the buildings?" She said,
Roshi tilted his head at her, "Why not all?"
"We do actually have data laws to follow as a normal business practice. So you aren't the only people who'll be refused entry."
The hall beyond was tiled and sterile looking, and as they continued found themselves in hospital type rooms. They turned a corner to a room with several beds, and Kirllin sat with his arm in a cuff. 18 was close by, watching with cold eyes as the medical staff did their jobs.
"Hey guys. You okay?"
Fine boy, fine. Are you alright?"
"Yeah, we're good. Just finishing up."
Oolong saw a vile of blood, and looked up at Suno. "How are you gonna get samples from Goku?" he asked, and then got a slap to the back of the head from Chiaotzu. He turned to the other and scowled, "They already know he has a phobia you dumdum. Why'd you hit me!"
"Sorry!" Chioatzu said, "I forgot they knew"
Oolong crossed his arms, "Hope you get the biggest needle they have you-"
"We already have a plan to deal with Son Goku's phobia. With any luck it should work." Suno said, with a slightly nervous smile.
"If you would all like to take a seat, we can begin." One of the doctors said, pilot and respectfully.
The tests didn't take long. Puar was the only one to cause a fuss because to take a small skin scraping they had to shave a patch of fur, and Yamcha had to assure her it would grow back, and if they picked a spot behind her ear it wouldn't be noticable when she looked in a mirror. And the fact it would grow back quickly.
Their tiny wounds would be healed in a day or two, and their test results would be sent to them by the end of the week.
The next thing was the sensors. Small things that wrapped around the wrist, ankles and neck, as well as stick dots that went on the temples and over the heart. All standard medical gear that were easy to remove.
"These monitor heart, lungs and ki energy." The doctor explained, "The wrist bands also have utra thin wire inserts painlessly into the skin and monitors blood levels."
Roshi looked down at the device, "And how long do we wear them for?"
"We ask that you choose several days where you are both resting and training. That way we can get the most accurate information."
"What about my job?" Krillin asked.
Suno stepped in then. "We have friends who have arranged for you to be transferred to a specialist unit for a few months. You'll be working with our operatives as far as you bosses are concerned. You should receive your new orders by wednesday."
Krillin didn't like that news. The idea that people he trusted in his 'normal' life were tied up in all of this was worrisome. He looked over at 18, and he could tell she was barely keeping her temper in check.
Roshi also had strong feelings at that moment, but not anger. No, he felt a great worry. The influence of these people seemed to have spread far and wide, and until they knew the extent, there was not a lot they could do. But as they walked further into the building, he began to wonder if letting the world know the truth could be as bad as listening to them.

Dr Hedo was incredibly confused at the sudden change in their plan. He'd thought Bulma was happy with what they were doing, but as it was they were needed at the main facility.
The projects before him were incredible, and the scientist in him was excited to get started., But after everything that had happened, the human in him was worried.
"So are we expecting an attack of some kind?" Hedo asked, and Bulma shook her head.
"No. But we've had so many attacks on the earth that I've decided to start coming up with back up plans. I have one for my family, friends and colleagues, but I have to start thinking on a large scale." Bulma said, and swiftly added colleagues to the list, realizing that many would be pissed at the fact she hadn't made plans for anyone beyond her loved one. She wondered what 18 would do if they left the planet and her brother and his family were left behind. Or a myriad of other people how they were close to but weren't a part of their main group.
"That is quite smart. "Are we concentrating on full body storage, or embryonic survival?"
Bulma looked at him confused for a moment. "Sorry, Embryonic?"
Hedo blinked and then smiled, "Oh, sorry. It's a long term, last ditch survival plan for if everything else fails. It's the mammalian version of the seed bank in the Northern wastes."
That Bulma did know. "Oh, that place that has samples of all of the earth's plant life!"
"Yes!" Hedo said, and smiled, "The embryonic version basically takes eggs, sperm and embryos to grow elsewhere in case we aren't able to take live specimens with us."
Bulma sat still for a moment before she groaned and buried her face in her hands. "Why the hell didn't I think of that! It could solve so many storage problems."
Hedo grinned and looked up at Gamma, "It's still in its infancy. Mostly because you would still need females of those animals to carry them. A cow may be modified to carry other cloned animals, but nothing but an elephant can carry an elephant. Unless you have some kind of artificial womb tech then-” Hedo looked up and blinked several times. “Oh my god now I’m an idiot. I made Cel max in one.”
Gamma smiled and leaned on the table, “Well now you got a place to start. Grow a bunny or something and go from there.”
