Parties and Possessions: How to Get Yourself on a Ghostly To-do List

Summary:

“So what are we actually trying to do here?”

“If you want to know,” Aradia peeks back at him impishly , “we’re going to try and summon a ghost."

One failed house party turns into a failed summoning ritual, but when the parties over Karkat finds that the ritual might have been more successful than any of them thought.

Work Text:

So he’d agreed to do the whole ghost hunter thing. In general, their little ghost hunting trips had not been as exciting as the first one Karkat had been brought on, but… well he’d still been enjoying it. Urban exploring in creepy abandoned places, huddling up shoulder to shoulder against the sides of mausoleums; he’d had proof now that the paranormal was real and it brought a new thrill. Maybe nothing he’d want to experience by himself but-

But he wasn’t by himself was he? It had been a long time since he really had felt alone, and while he had always tried to appreciate his large chaotic friend group this was different. It was three other people who decided that his sorry ass was worth it and brought him into their secret, and sitting in Aradia’s apartment looking at them getting ready for yet another weird ritual he couldn’t help the warm swell of emotion that bubbled in his chest.

“C’mon KK, you know how to help,” Sollux grouses at him from the floor where he is scribbling out markings in chalk alongside Aradia. His first impulse is to always bicker in return, but then there was Feferi next to him, holding out matches to him before flitting off to place candles strategically around the circle coming together around them. It was hard to believe that this was supposed to be some sort of get together- a party even for… something? It always ended up like this. As he begins to follow after Fef with the matches, he doesn’t know if he cares.

“So was anyone else invited or?”

Aradia looks over her shoulder, all big eyes and devious smile before going back to her chalk.

“I had invited some others but Tavros said he had a project due for class, and Vriska is still avoiding me so she and Terezi won’t be coming by,” she doesn’t seem too bothered by it, but the displeased noise from Sollux says more than enough. Of course, that never really stopped him from saying more.

“Tavros is probably getting high with Gamzee again.”

Karkat thinks that is a bit unfair. It’s not like Sollux hadn’t ditched plans to do stupid shit with them before, and Feferi seemed to think similarly because once finished with the candles she steps carefully into the circle to ruffle Sollux's hair. He complains less about that.

“Come on, like you’d really want anyone else here this late, it’d make it hard enough for us to have fun later.”

Somehow, even with the lights low in Aradia’s gloomy, spooky room, she manages to talk with a tone that has Karkat imagining an italicized tilda at the end of her sentence. Asterisks and sparkles and uwu hold my flower baby style and everything. Karkat never wanted to get on the wrong side of those big bright eyes and that innocent smile, she already had proven that she and Aradia could convince him to do probably anything. Sollux’s mumbling as he finishes up with the chalk seemed to agree with her, and probably that sentiment from the tone of his voice.

“So what are we actually trying to do here?”

Sollux and Feferi both carefully move themselves out of the completed circle and Aradia finishes up the markings she’s working on before following after. She brushes chalk dust off her skirt, leaning over to carefully correct some of the markings, and Feferi makes grabby hands towards her butt while Sollux snickers, and well. Okay Karkat couldn’t help smirk as well.

“If you want to know,” Aradia always seems to know, and she peeks back over her shoulder impishly before continuing, “we’re going to try and summon a ghost. She’s… kinda stuck here as far as I’ve been able to tell. It’s not been easy to talk to her though, so I was hoping a quick summoning might help us with that!”

It seemed easy enough, and he’s done enough of these that he knows how these summoning ones tend to go now. It was explained to him in the back parking lot of the Best Buy Sollux worked part time at, waiting for him to get off shift so they could all go eat.

They all had a role, something that Aradia was innately aware of and able to understand in a way none of the rest of them could. Feferi was Life, what grows and lives voraciously. Aradia was Death, the psychopomp and the one who could contact the dead the easiest. Sollux was the duality, the space between, one foot in and one foot out somehow. And Karkat?

Well Karkat was blood. Karkat was the sacrifice.

He steps carefully in the circle, everyone else taking their place around it. It still made a thrill of anxious giddiness rush through him every time, he can feel the energy ripple across his skin and sees the candle flames flicker in response. It hasn’t even started and he knows that Aradia is right.

When he had been originally told he was the sacrifice, he had almost felt hurt. Self conscious maybe, that they didn’t want him but they wanted… well a sacrifice? Is there a better word? After an evening of brooding though Aradia brought him back around. Well, after Sollux had scrabbled up the side of his house to rattle his window until he came down. It could have been anyone, she said, but they wanted him. It was just lucky that he was so potent, but even if he backed out and never wanted to go ghost hunting with them again they’d want him.

Her warm smile from outside the circle, well he knows he still believes her. The way he can see Sollux staring at his ass from the corner of his eye makes it kind of easy to believe too.

Aradia has her book out, and flicks through the pages until she finds what she’s looking for. Then, a deep breath, one he mirrors, and she begins reading.

It never stops being intense, the circle lights up around him and he can feel the energy being drawn from him, reacting to him, sparking off him. The dim room around him is lit up with a purple light, he’s buffeted by a wind that seems to whip around him, the room is electric and-

And it stops. His hair that was whipping around his ears settles, in all likelihood poofed out stupidly. The candles around the circles are out completely, but the chalk and salt around his feet are completely undisturbed. Sollux looks kind of unimpressed on his left hand side, Feferi somewhat baffled on his right, and Aradia… well Aradia smiles at him with that warm smile.

“That's it?” Karkat asks incredulously.

She shrugs a bit, clapping the book shut in her hands.

“Seems so. We weren’t trying to force her out. If she doesn’t want to come, she doesn’t have to.”

“This fucking sucks AA, is there anything else we can do?”

“Well, the pizza is going to be here in a half hour,” it’s Feferi who responds, “We could set up the switch and play Stardew Valley until then?”

He… he doesn’t feel like that’s all that happened. He felt the energy, he felt the draw, he felt something happen…but he doesn’t know what. He’s not like Aradia, who can see, or Sollux or Feferi who have the experience. He just has a feeling, a feeling hugging his skin like the purple light. What else can he do but follow his partners and go play video games and enjoy the rest of the evening?

The feeling doesn’t go away though. He’s huddled up on the couch next to Sollux, Aradia lounging on the rug and Feferi perched on the arm of the couch like the gargoyle she is and he feels… something anyway. A hand maybe, on his side, but when he glances over to Sollux both of his hands are on the switch controller and he’s focused on min-maxing their farm to make the most money. Feferi is on his other side, and Aradia is facing away from him… so it has to be nothing.

Pizza comes and they’re all around Aradia’s kotatsu eating with a movie on  in the background and he feels it too. This time it’s a cold feeling running up his thighs, squeezing. Once again he catches himself looking around and all hands are accounted for and… and how would any of them even grope him with cold hands under his jeans? It’s hard to believe it’s his imagination, but it has to be right? Even if he’s a little more interested in the sensation than he’s supposed to be?

It feels like it goes on all evening like that. The sensation of his nipples being pinched, his ass being groped at, a cold breath on his neck. He’s half convinced that something is happening, but also convinced it has to be in his head. It seems insane, but he knows paranormal shit is real and yet-

Well when they all set up for bed he still can’t bring himself to say anything. He can figure it out tomorrow, need be, tonight he wants to curl up in Aradia’s big ass bed with his partners and enjoy it. They don’t get to do this often, none of them have as big a bed as her, so it feels like a luxury even if he’s also being mildly suffocated by like two hundred pounds of thick hair and being elbowed and kneed half to death by Sollux. He wouldn’t have it any other way.

It’s not entirely uncommon to wake up to the bed rocking though, sexy noises, or even searching hands looking to invite him in. That’s his first thought anyway, when he wakes up to hands pulling at the band of his boxers. He’s not against it either, not after feeling like he was teased all evening by invisible hands. When a cold hand wraps around his dick, he’s already half hard and-

And there’s an ice cold hand wrapped around his dick. He inhales sharply, eyes fluttering open to see what the fuck is going on because even Feferi, clammy as she can be sometimes isn’t this cold. When he looks around in the dim light of the room there’s no one. His dick is hard and he feels a hand on his dick and there’s nothing. He should tell someone, he should reach out and shake Aradia awake and demand her to fix this. Instead he gasps as the head is thumbed over and a cold wetness envelopes him and he’s gasping, bucking up into the air.

Or not the air. No, when he opens his eyes again it’s too the faint purple outline of a short haired woman, eyes watching him keenly even as she leans over to bob her head on his dick. Her eyes burn like the sun and he finds himself gasping, but that could just as likely be from the cold tongue that runs up the base of his cock.

The god damned summoning worked. Did Aradia know? She’s the one who could see, but wouldn’t she have told him? Did she… is this something she wanted to happen? It would almost feel like a betrayal of trust, but when the ghostly woman finally pulls away he can’t find it in him to even think that way because he doesn’t want it to stop. No, that’s a problem for Future Karkat, because Present Karkat is dealing with a ghost who’s straddling his thighs and looking down at him from where she’s moved to kneel above him.

“Even better than I thought,” she smirks at him, acting like this is completely normal and expected from this situation. It’s only when she moves to position herself over his dick that he realizes this is as much as her asking for permission as she’s going to give him, “ Your connection to souls is stronger than I expected.”

She couldn’t just let him have the compliment. He doesn’t have to know who the fuck this ghost is to know that. Just like he knows that when she slowly guides his dick in, slowly rocks herself against him as she works him in, he couldn’t care less about souls and blood and sacrifices and shit.

He doesn’t know if bottoming out in the petite ghost is impressive by any means, if her ghostly form is bound to physical limits like his or not, but she feels cold. Cold, but good. It means when she starts riding him proper, rocking back and forth, against him, he’s moaning. Moaning and grasping the nearest sheet and clothes and- and fucking shit he’s in the bed with three other people. Three other people who are waking up because he’s humping up into what might just look like air to them but what is in all actuality a hot ghost chick riding him and what is he even supposed to say to that? He goes to open his mouth when eyes start flickering open, looking at him curiously, but all that comes out is a loud moan and he knows he’s beat red.

“Hey AA, it looks like it worked after all,” Sollux’s voice sounds amused, and Karkat’s a bit distracted but he’s pretty sure he sees himself adjusting himself in his pajama pants. He’s not entirely sure though because Aradia is sitting up and looking at him pleased and Feferi is stirring next to him and the ghost girl in his lap is none too pleased to apparently have his attention taken from her because sharp nails dig into his chest and drawing out another needy noise from him.

“Ooooh good,” Aradia’s voice is low and her eyes seem to glow almost red in the dim light. When Feferi sits up he swears that her eye’s shine like some sort of night creature as well, pupils slits like a predator and Sollux? Sollux is already making soft noises and holy shit. Sollux is touching himself to a ghost fucking him? That shouldn’t be so hot?

It is though, and he wants to move, to do something more, get more, give more. When he tries to touch her though small cold hands pin him back by his wrists and then it’s Feferi making a needy noise and shit they’re… they’re just going to sit there and just watch?

So many thoughts bouncing around, but as fast as things are happening there is only one thing faster. The curling hot feeling in him is beginning to build, his movements becoming erratic and the ghost above him seems thrilled by that. She renews her pace and energy, and she’s not so invisible now. Still slightly transparent, but she’s a heavier weight on him, easier to see. Easier to hear when she whimpers, gasping yes, yes!!!

And he’s gasping and stuttering along with her, trying to hold on as he tilts his head, trying to look up at his partners around him and how they’re watching him enraptured. He wants to see them get off on this, he wants more, but he’s been worked up all evening and as the ghost cums he is too.

“Holy- Karkat!”  Feferi’s voice feels so far away, his mind feels fuzzy and his limbs heavy and then there’s the sound of Sollux groaning. It’s hard to keep track of things, especially when the weight on him seems to disappear with only a light kiss on his jaw, and arms begin to tug and pull him up.

He doesn’t know how long he’s in that hazy space, but when he comes back fully to himself it’s to Feferi’s arms around him and Aradia’ petting his hair and Sollux hovering somewhat apprehensive towards the end of the bed.

“You okay Karkat?” One of the last things he remembers is her gasping out his name like it was something to savor, the sound of Sollux maybe getting off to it. Here thought it’s all soothing worry as he comes back to his limbs. God, who the fuck knew having his wrists lightly pinned down while his partners watched him getting fucked would do this to him.

“Mhmmm,” is all he can manage at first. This has Sollux awkwardly crawling across the bed to grab a water bottle on the nightstand. It looks silly but once he’s wet his mouth it does help, so he spares the teasing, “would have appreciated to be warned that was a possibility though.”

“Sorry,” it’s Aradia who responds to that, leaning in close and pressing a warm kiss to his jaw, right where the ghost had kissed as well, “I didn’t think that’s what she’d do.”

He wants to ask what she thought she was going to do. Ask her where she went, he can tell that she’s not attached to him anymore and he’s inclined to trust that sense this time. When Sollux gingerly lays himself down next to him though, half laying in Aradia’s lap and arms snaking around him, he can’t bring himself to care. This is nice, he liked that, and he likes this.

“It’s okay. I think I wanna go back to sleep.”

Sollux mumbles an agreement, Feferi giggles and Aradia… well Aradia gives him that comforting smile. He feels safe here, if he hadn’t he would have never agreed to be a ghost hunter. But he did, and curled up with his partners he knows there’s nowhere else he’d rather be.
