Chapter Text

Partial Remission. You’ll need to do routine checkups, but you’re being discharged.”

It’s been 24 hours since his team of doctors told him the good news.

The cancer had shrunk and he had been allowed to leave his hospital bed for good.

It was a shock to hear, after months of a hard battle with radiation therapy and guaranteed six months to live. He could hardly believe it and broke down into exhausted tears once he was left alone.

After months of believing this was the end for him, he now had the chance to live again.

It was his last day in Totou, and as he sat on his hospital bed, waiting for Haruka to arrive to take him to the airport back to Okinawa, he saw a notebook sticking out from beneath get well soon cards.

With furrowed brows, he reached out to gently slip it out from beneath the cards and opened it up.

It was his ‘Bucket List’ Nanba and the others had convinced him to make.

His thumb scanned down the scribbles of lines, each detailing an idea he had before he died.

While some were crossed out, already completed, there were others that were still left undone, waiting for him to complete.

The completion wasn’t as pressing now. But he found he couldn’t put the book down.

It still felt like it was unanswered and more could be added. He still was left with many regrets in life… Maybe this could be his way of atoning and living his second chance to the fullest?

Without anymore hesitation, he quickly grabbed a pen from his bedside table and began writing new things he wanted to do.

He wanted to complete all of it before he died, when that might be, so he could truly feel at peace and make those who were waiting for him in the afterlife proud.

He’d do it with his family and friends, new and old, at his side.
