Chapter 1: Return.

Chapter Text

Ah, another summer in gravity falls. The townsfolk filled the streets, the forests as strange as ever. Meanwhile, somewhere amongst the towering trees and blazing sunlight, lays the mystery shack. Now run by Soos and his wife, Melody, the shack was off-work earlier than usual today. For a special reason. The Pines were going to be back, former Mr. Mystery, his nerd brother, and their chaotic grand niece and nephew were going to be back soon. The town's weirdness had increased, every creature roaming the forests. (except for Shmebulock, he has no idea what to do except say his name.) It was almost like the town's dirt could feel their return.

As Soos, Melody, and Wendy finished cleaning the shack from all the noisy customers earlier today, they heard a knock on the door.
"It must be them, I'll go open the door."
Wendy offered, walking up to the door. She's been excited for their return, but she's never visibly shown it. Typical Wendy!

The door, creaking open, revealed the 2 sets of twins outside. Dipper and Mabel look so much older than last year, while the other 2 just looked the same.
"Guys!! I've missed you all so much!!"
Mabel, with her always bubbly character and energy, immediately stepped into the shack, the other 3 following behind.
"dudes, we've missed you! How've you been?"
"Soos! How's managing the shack been?"
while Stan and Soos catch up on some things, the others go to their rooms to set down their bags. Soos and Stan had always had a father-son kind of relationship. Stanford had decided to use his lab as a room. Meanwhile, Dipper and Mabel returned to their room in the attic. As for Stanley, he was staying in his old room, obviously.

"This room feels just like when we first arrived last summer!! right, Dipper?"
Dipper nodded in agreement, a smile plastered onto his face. Dipper and Mabel had been excited to be back, Dipper couldn't wait to study the strangest creatures of this town, while Mabel had honestly just missed the place, and most importantly, her best friends! Candy and Grenda.
The twins put down their bags, and an uncomfortable silence filled the room for a few moments.
"you know, Mabel, that window gives me major creeps, considering it's shaped like.. him.."
"yeesh.. I agree.."
The twins then decided to cover that window, placing a temporary cloth over it. As they covered it up, Mabel's phone rang. it was Grenda. they had decided to all meet up today for a catch-up .
"HEEYY GIRLL!!! IM ON MY WAY OKAYY BYEE"
"Well, Dipper, i am needed elsewhere! byee!"
Dipper waved to his sister, he's used to her energetic character, and honestly, he's happy she's meeting her friends again. They weren't the worst. (aside from all the sleepovers, ofcourse..)

Back to Stanford, he input the code into the vending machine.
A-B-1-C-3.
click. The door opens. Stanford steps in, going down the elevator.

"This place will need a clean-up later."
Stanford turned around, looking for a specific drawer. Opening it revealed what looked like the other three journals. He took it out, placing it on the desk nearby. He wipes dust off of it, pulling out a marker and writing a blunt '4' on the hand in the middle. A new journal. He opens it up, bringing out another pen.

property of Stanford Pines. vol 4
July 18th, 2017.
Coming back felt strange. This town hadn't changed a bit since I first arrived over 30 years ago. It's almost like this town's roots know me by sense. Trapping me into their strange and difficult anomalies. They know I'll pay attention to every detail and study it carefully. Keeping a journal has always helped me keep my mind organized and calm. I will continue researching this town for the duration of my stay. It's become a habit by now. I'll have to visit the statue soon. It's inevitable. kh'v ghdg, uljkw? I'll have to balance between spending time with family and researching, but I'm sure that won't be a problem. Maybe Dipper would want to come along sometimes too, which is family bonding, right? It is dangerous for him, but that boy is talented. I'm sure no other 13-year-old like him exists. On a side note, I've wanted to meet up with F soon, I'd like to catch up. I wonder how he is." Ad astra per aspera, Stanford Pines.

...

"Where've you been for the past hour, poindexter?"
"Oh, nothing Stanley, just cleaning up the lab."
"Well, sit down! Have a drink."
Stanford sits down beside his brother on the couch placed on the porch, sipping the drink Stanley handed him. he soon zoned off, staring into the clouds, while his brother talked about random topics.
