Riddle me this, Thundercracker

Notes:

Part of my AU but will be fine without context.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Skywarp sidled up by his brother who was on the couch playing videogames-- er, *ahem* using the human battle simulator-- with a playful, just shy of mischievous, grin. “Hey, TC, wanna hear a riddle?” he asked, his hands clasped hopefully.

Thundercracker paused his game, turning to his brother with a prideful smirk, “There is no feeble puzzle that my immense processor cannot solve!” he gloated, “Lay it on me.”

Grin slanting slightly, Skywarp gestured palm up widely to the side, posing, “ ‘What’s black, and white, and read all over’?” The black Seeker watched, his wings perking impishly,  as the other mech thought about the riddle. He barely stopped himself from grinning victoriously; there was no way Thundercracker would be able to solve the human riddle. Even knowing the answer, Skywarp hadn’t understood it himself until he had caved and asked Sunstorm just what exactly a newspaper was. (He wasn’t allowed to use the base’s computer to search the internet, and he didn’t want to risk it, anyway. The internet was way too scary a place for him. He didn’t leave his room for three days after the last time.)

TC contemplated the question, his optics narrowed thoughtfully as he stroked at his chin. After a brief moment processing the riddle, his optics widened with a victorious sparkle and he flourished his hand grandly, declaring confidently, “Obviously, the answer is Ramjet.”

Skywarp’s wing’s dropped at the unexpected answer, and he stared at his triumphantly grinning brother as he immediately turned back to his game and gloated flippantly, “Riddles are easy!”

“Umm,” the black mech tried to correct, shyly raising a finger as if to protest, but quickly dropped his hand to tap at his chin in confusion as he thought over the reply. He could not deny that their lying brother was, in fact, black, white, and red. Leave it to Thundercracker to somehow find a wrong way to be right. Shaking his head, Skywarp relented, “Guess you got me.” He would have to find a better riddle next time.

Notes:

IDK why all of my current side clone fics are pun based, but hope you at least got an amused huff out of this. Thanks for reading this lil thing, comments, kudos, etc always appreciated.
