Tiny But Mighty

Summary:

What if Jee was there when Jonah showed to Chimney's apartment? What if she was also a smart, badass toddler?

Notes:

Y'all I don't know how my brain came up with this but uh enjoy?

Work Text:

At two years old, Jee-yun had learned a few things. She knew how to bat her eyelashes for more ice cream, knew that she would get stickers if she went potty in her little toilet, even knew how to climb even the most precarious structures when she wanted something too high for her little body to reach. She also knew that her daddy was a fireman who sometimes had to deal with bad guys who hurt people.

On this day, she was playing quietly in her room while her dad made dinner when there was a knock on the door. Jee knew her mom was supposed to be coming to pick her up, but normally her and daddy were done eating by the time she got there. Was her mommy early? Setting down her toys, she walked to her door and peered out curiously, but it was not her mommy at the door.

Instead, her dad was talking to a strange man she had never seen before. A funny feeling took over and she stood frozen in her position, peeking around the doorframe, as her daddy invited the man inside. Despite the clear line of sight, the strange man did not seem to notice her, clearly not expecting anyone but her dad to be inside the house.

Just as she was starting to relax, about to make her presence known since this man seemed to be her daddy’s friend, the stranger pulled something out of his pocket. It took her a minute to recognize it as the pokey things the doctors used on her when she went for her check-ups. Was this man a doctor? Was he here to help daddy? With questions bouncing around her mind, she watches the man hold her daddy down and poke him with the object.

Strangely, after being poked her daddy goes limp and falls to the floor with a thud. That was not normal, was it? She had never taken a nap right after a shot, and neither had Denny that one time she had to go to the doctor with him while aunt Hen was watching her because he stepped on a nail. When the man pulled out the bracelet-things that Miss Athena used to catch bad guys, Jee knew something was not right. Her daddy was not a bad guy! He hugged her when she was sad and helped her bury herself in stuffed animals while giggling and let her have ice cream whenever mommy worked late. He had not done anything to be in trouble!

She turns around, quietly making her way to her toy chest where she grabbed her biggest block, before making her way back to the living room on her tip-toes. It was not until she was right behind him that the stranger seemed to notice her presence, but by then it was already too late. She jumped onto him while he was still kneeling and clung to his back with her legs and one arm. With the other arm, she pulled back as far as she could and hit him in the head with the toy as hard as she could.

The man crumbled to the ground, similar to how her daddy had, and she carefully untangled herself from him. Her daddy did not seem to be waking up anytime soon and she did not know where his phone was, but she did know that her mommy would be there soon to pick her up. So, she climbs onto the couch and watches the cartoons her daddy had never turned off until her mommy arrives.

Maddie makes her way up the stairs to Chimney’s apartment. It had been a grueling shift, but now she just wanted to take her baby home and cuddle with her while they ate cookies and watched cartoons.

Those thoughts quickly die when she notices that the door to Chim’s apartment is slightly ajar. Chimney would never leave his door like this with Jee inside, so Maddie was quickly on high alert as she nudged the door open and peered inside.

She froze for a moment as she took in the scene on the other side. Chimney and the sketchy new 118 recruit were lying on the floor, both unconscious, although she could clearly see blood starting to matt Jonah’s hair while Chim looked uninjured. The most shocking thing, however, was Jee calmly watching the tv as though the two men on the floor weren’t a jarring sight.

It’s then that the toddler spots her and runs over. “Mommy! This evil guy showed up and hurt daddy so I stopped him!”

The exclamation causes Maddie to pause and blink for a moment before hastily picking the little girl up and balancing her on her hip as she pulls out her phone and dials 911.

Later they would piece everything together, but there was one very valuable lesson that they learned that day. Under no circumstances should you mess with Jee’s loved ones.
