Work Text:
Fang was currently in her room, sitting criss-cross applesauce on her bed and facing away from the door as she tuned her guitar and strummed the strings, staring until she heard a knock on her bedroom door.
Fang: “Huh? Who the hell is there?”
A familiar motherly, albeit muffled voice came from behind the door. “Lucy? May I come in?”
Fang: She rolls her eyes at this. “What for?”
Samantha: “Honey, just please… I need to talk to you about something.”
Fang: “Umm, alright fine, go ahead.”
Samantha: She opens the door and walks in, closing it behind her with her foot. “Lucy, there’s something I wanna talk about…”
Fang: She looks confused and mildly annoyed at this. “Ugggh, what?”
Samantha: “Well, could I sit next to you? Daught- I mean.. Child to Mother?”
Fang widens her eyes in disbelief as she slowly turns her head to her mom.
Fang: “W-wait, did you just-”
Samantha: “Yes, I did refer to you not as my daughter, but as my child… though, you’ll never stop being my daughter in my eyes, Fang..”
Fang: “Y-you’re also using my… preferred name too?”
Samantha: She shook her head again. “Yes… as much as you’re still my little Lucy too, that doesn’t mean you won’t be what you wanna be.”
Fang: “M-mom, what exactly did you wanna talk about?” She says as she puts her guitar next to her while her mom sat on the bed.
Samantha: “Well, over the events of what’s been happening, I’ve been slowly realizing something. Something that no mom should ever have to realize or even deal with.”
Fang: Looking worried. “M-mom, what did you-”
Samantha: “I-I was... I-I was... N-n-not a good mom…”
Fang: She widens her eyes again and even this time puts both of her hands on her moms shoulders. “Mom, don’t say that! I-I know you haven’t treated me the best but I-”
Samantha: “N-no, Luc-Fang… I’m sorry but I-it’s true… I should’ve paid attention to you more, actually treating you like my growing daughter instead of just… P-pretending everything is okay, sweeping everything under the rug.” She gives Fang a tight hug.
Fang: She was clearly surprised by this, slowly wrapping her arms around her mother. “Mom…
sigh
Look, mom. I don’t think you are… that far off from what you said, but… you’re not a bad mother. Always in La-La land? Oh fuck yeah, definitely. But, you at least were… caring in some way. Better than dad in my opinion.”
Samantha: “Still! Look, Lu-Fang… I know you’re an adult and might leave the house soon, but before you do, w-while you’re here... I know I can’t change the past but… could you let me be more of a better mom now and for the future?” She stops hugging but puts her hand on Fangs thigh.
Fang paused for a bit, thinking about it as she tapped her fingers against her own thighs, an uncertain expression showing on her face.
Fang: “I-I don’t know mom… I think… Maybe? It did feel nice for you to call me by my actual name and acknowledge that I wasn’t a girl but.. I don’t know if that would fix what happened before.”
Samantha: “T-that’s understandable, sweetie.” a saddening expression appeared on her face.
Fang: “But I suppose I could take your offer. What about Dad though? Did you talk about this with him?”
Samantha: “I-I will tonight if you want that. Jeez, I-I don’t know what else to say but.. Guess this would be the next best thing!” She hugged her daughter yet again, tighter and warmer.
Fang: she was surprised by this, and raised her wings in shock, blushing from the love. “M-mom! Do you really have to do this? I-it’s a bit cringe.”
Samantha: “N-nonsense. I know you aren’t just a little girl anymore who I had to put diapers on most of the time.” That got Fang to blush brighter red. “But that does not mean I will not do what a mom should do with her child. It’s not this ‘Cringe’ you speak of to love.”
Fang: “Hmph! F-fiiine.” she wrapped her hugs around her mom yet again, both touching their feathers together.
Samantha: “S-since I will try to be more attentive, would it be okay if we talked?” They both stop hugging each other.
Fang: “Fine. About what though?”
Samantha: “Well, I noticed something... About that Anon boy you know! Y’know, that boy you have a crush on!” This immediately got Fang to blush heavily again, covering herself with her wings.
Fang: “N-no I don’t have a crush on that d-dweeb! T-that is nonsense, an outright lie!”
Samantha: She giggles at this, showing a soft smile. “Oh honey, don’t think I notice you around that boy~ Always wagging that tail when you’re around him, flapping his wings when looking at pictures of him, and also, you were so adamant that you don’t have a crush on him like you’re trying to cover it up~!”
Fang: she crossed her arms and looked away, Showing a pouty expression.“Hmph. S-so what if I do?”
Samantha: “Well, just letting you know it’s obvious to me you love that boy! Also, I could offer some advice when you have a crush, seeing as I have plenty of experience with your father.” This makes Fang grit her teeth with cringe. “You could give him subtle hints, hang out with him a lot more! Would love for him to come over again, without Ripley making him feel like he isn’t welcome of course.”
Fang: “Ah. Well, thanks, mom. But how are you gonna convince Dad to not make him a new living room decoration?”
Samantha: “Sweetie, I have my ways~” She smirks. “Now, Would you wanna go with me to the mall? I heard there’s this place called Hot Topic! I think you’d like it!”
Fang: “Wasn’t there already a hot topic-” she stopped herself as she quickly remembered the Hot Topic she went to closed down a year ago. “O-oh, well, I’d love to go there, Mom. I just have to do one thing before we leave”
Samantha: “Alrighty, Sweetie! I’ll get my purse!” She exits the room while Fang pulls out her phone, pulls up Contacts, and goes into text messages. She clicks on the “Anon” button and texts him one thing.
“You’re such a dweeb.”
Samantha: “Alrighty sweetie, are you ready to go?” She yells from her room.
Fang: “Yeah mom, I am!”
