Joe picked up the phone.
"23rd Precinct, Captain Carlino speaking," he said, and then listened for a minute.
"Are you sure it was him?"
"Yes," said the man on the other end,"we've made a positive identification."
"Well, no offence, but mistakes have been made before. I'll need to see for myself
before I tell his wife."
Thirty minutes later, Joe returned to the 2-3, called Josie into his office,
locked the door, closed the blinds, and, before he told her one of the
hardest things he'd ever had to say, took her in his arms and held her close.
