Work Text:
Quesa Poblana was scared. She was so very scared.
She had been the best in the whole world! Had beat the best of the best. But it was all for the wrong kind of people. She couldn’t let that happen to anyone ever again. Couldn’t let those monsters do what they did to her.
She needed to hide, to find a place where no one from the GWC could ever find her. But, In a world ful of wrestling where do no wrestlers even go?
————
She had done it! Keeping everyone safe, even while she was still alive. It was honestly a miracle that she had found this dirt farm all those years ago.
She had a steady business and enough food and water to last her a good long while. Even if that pesky nephew of hers kept stealing her stuff. It wasn’t good for him to be by her anyway. Maybe she should get a new lock… or twenty.
————
If there was one day that Quesa Poblana hated it was tax day. Not only did she have to leave her farm but she had to be so close to other wrestlers. It wasn’t safe! But still, she did need to do her taxes.
However, she avoided the 6th floor of the Tax Academy entirely. Being the former best wrestler in the world did have its perks at times.
————
What was this kid doin? Lookin at the water like she’s about to jump in and drown. If only Quesa could do that. But noooooo. She just had to keep watch on that good for nothing GWC- Wait. What was that? Did she hear that right?
“Maybe I’ll never be a wrestler.”
‘Are you kidding me?’ What kind of sad sorry pepper mashin idea was that?! Become a wrestler? Wha- that’s not how it works at all. Quesa was just about done with a the bull shit of this world, but becoming a wrestler that’s just foolish. She told that sad sack sitting and moping there just that.
————
When a rocket goes off in Accountant Isle, you know something is wrong. Quesa was so done. But the accountants can’t protect themselves. Ugggh.
————
She was walking slowly, alright, she knew she was. But she just didn’t want to know. If she had to step in it could have consequences. Big consequences.
So here she was shuffling her feet. Too nice and stupid for her own good.
And just like she thought, wreckage of the town stood before her. In the middle though she could see the ring, along with what was no doubt the trouble maker and his opponent-
Dock girl?! Huh. Guess she took Quesa’s message to heart, poor kid. Wait, she won? Against that behemoth? Well must have been no problem in the first place. Hopefully she would be satisfied with the win and save herself the trouble of the dangers of wrestling.
Quesa would have to make it back to the boat soon so she doesn’t miss it. And maybe she could make herself a nice spicy dinner-
“You’re gonna pay for that accountant.”
Quesa did always hate her luck. Hopefully, the man wouldn’t be like the others, cursed by her power.
————
Finally, Quesa was back home and could just relax. Her nephew had stolen a few things while she was gone but she could manage. The Busters were coming today anyway to grab some peppers so she could go shopping soon.
Ah, yes, this is the life. No responsibility, no questions, no crippling guilt. Just good and honest work-
*knock, knock, knock*
Did she mention she hated her luck?
————
There was no way in hell she was training anyone ever. Most especially this no good, stubborn, loud mouthed girl!
There was no way. She was too old and this kid was too- well- She broke her roof! Who does that?!
And now she had to go out again, and fix her own gosh damned roof. Kids these days. At least the kid finally got the message that there was no test and she would not be training her or anyone else ever.
————
Ahhhhhhhhhh. Her backkk! She needed help! She needed an ambulance! Just anything! And would these kids stop yammering and driving her insane with this stupid pitch!
What would get them to shut up! She just needed them to focus and call for help!
————
Thank goodness the ambulance arrived so quickly. Another perk of being the world’s best wrestler. With her back straightened up, her neck braced, and some good ol pain medicine in her she could finally focus on the real problem at hand.
Those damn menace kids! Don’t they know how dangerous this is. Quesa could not, under any circumstances, train this girl.
But just how could she get rid of her…
————
HA! She was. a. genius! There was no way this girl, this accountant, could ever do even one perfect strike! It was impossible! Quesa made that move specifically with herself in mind and had that machine custom made.
She did feel a little bad for crushing the poor girls dreams, but she needed to get it through her thick skull that Quesa would never train her.
That girl needed to leave and never come back for her own good.
————
It was working! Peace and quiet at last. Her roof was fixed, her peppers were flourishing, and everything was going to plan. The accountant would be gone in 1 day, 4 hours, 47 minutes, and 28 seconds, though they sure were training hard out there.
Quesa wasn’t heartless, hearing the kid shout and throw herself into training did sting the tiniest bit. And seeing her cry put even more lead in her stomach. But, that girl needed to be saved from herself.
All Quesa could do was relax and celebrate every day that passed. Every moment that got her closer to when she wouldn’t have to feel guilty at all and the kid would be safe.
————
Quesa didn’t like this one bit. Why did they have to make the end of this “challenge” drag on? And in a Busters Match of all places! She should be home, celebrating her first victory in years.
And yet here she was, watching the poor girl, Quesa’s nephew, and the other one run around like chickens with their heads cut off.
Quesa anxiously looked over her shoulder every second. Anxious out in public where they could be watching. Hopefully, this match will be mercifully short.
————
No. No, no, no. Not again. Not him. Not THEM. Quesa couldn’t let this happen, this girl had a future in front of her and this world didn’t deserve this. Quesa would be damned if she didn’t at least warn the girl of the horrors in front of her.
She needed a way to get all of them out of here and fast. No time for talk when he was coming. She needed to get away now.
————
Quesa can’t believe this. She’s gonna punch that old crapshoot Scouter into next week! Threatening her? On her own property?! What a load of shit!
Quesa needed to think. She needed a plan. A plan to keep this kid away from the GWC and keep the GWC away from her and Quesa.
She… She didn’t know what to do.
She turned back to the house that now was no longer home, eyes open wide. How could she be safe now?
Her plan to live off grid, that had worked for years, didn’t actually work. What was Quesa supposed to do? Go to Accountant Isle?! They would find her anywhere if they found her here.
Maybe they could live underground? Oh and what would she do about these stupidly stubborn kids? She can’t keep them locked up. Even she knows how stupid of an idea that was. She was at a loss.
As her mind raced with any desperate semblance of a plan, her door creaked open and a head peaked out.
“Aunt P?”
Oh it was that other one. Why on earth is he still here?
“For the last time I’m not your aunt.”
“Aunt P! Hey-“ His face turned worried. “Are you okay?”
“Of course I am. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Well I mean, you’re kind of…” His eyes darted around her as if he was picking her apart. It’s unsettling.
“Well, spit it out. And stop lookin at me like that.”
“Oh sorry. It’s just that you seem really nervous, almost uh scared?” He grew more unsure every syllable he uttered.
“I ain’t scared of nothin ya hear!”
“Uh yes, Aunt P.” He said with a small smile. “If you want there’s dinner inside.”
Dinner sounded good to Quesa but she didn’t know if she could keep it down after… what just happened. She turned her head to look across the field, searching for any sign of them.
“I’ll be in in a minute.”
“But, Aunt P.”
“Uggggh, what do you want?!” She turned around to glare at the boy who had a ridiculously hopeful look on his face.
“If you are scared just know that we can help!”
These kids always yammerin…
