i'll admit my life's better when you're near

Summary:

Ena's just trying to finish her art for Nightcord's next MV. Mizuki being in her room doesn't help.

Work Text:

“I could eat your art.”

“Mizuki, what the hell?” Ena spun around in her desk chair. Mizuki was staying over at her house for... some reason, and they’d been generally overexcited and teasing, which meant she was feeling better than she had been a week ago when Ena had confronted her in that alleyway by their school.

“Enanan, it’s a compliment,” she said, and refused to explain any further.

Fine. Two could play that game. “I’m not moving until you explain.”

Mizuki pouted. “Aww, Enanan doesn’t trust me. She won’t believe me when I try to be nice and say good things about her art~” Mizuki blew a kiss in Ena’s direction to accentuate her point.

Ena shook her head. “As long as you don’t eat the canvas, I’ll let it go.”

Mizuki ruffled Ena’s hair. “So you do love me!”

“What part of that implied I don’t ?”

Mizuki shrugged.

Ena rolled her eyes and went back to the canvas. If her now-girlfriend was going to be this aggravating from here on out, she’d have to come up with better retorts.

Oh, well. At least Mizuki was having fun. This was a significant improvement from six days ago, when she hadn’t been unable to smile unless Ena was tickling her. Which Ena hadn’t meant to do in the first place, but she’d flopped next to Mizuki on the bed and accidentally brushed their side, which had prompted a revenge tickle war from Mizuki. Ena would never admit that it was fun, because she was trying to help Mizuki feel better! She definitely didn’t find the ‘fight’ amusing in the slightest.

Although Ena wanted to strangle the boys who’d talked to her on the roof of the school more than ever now. She hated seeing Mizuki in that state, blaming herself for everything, ranting to Ena about how she felt like the worst person on the planet. While Ena had encouraged Mizuki to talk about it all now that she felt ready, she hadn’t been prepared for the worst of it, and she’d tried to avoid using the phrase “these jerks” too many times whenever Mizuki spoke about their experiences.

Mizuki still needed to heal from the bullying; that much was clear. Ena thought the worst part had passed. She swore that whatever happened next, they’d handle it together.

(And if that involved either of the boys who’d outed Mizuki, Ena wouldn’t hesitate to punch them. It was the least she could do to show them how much they’d hurt her girlfriend.)
