Work Text:
The locker room was eerily quiet, and the echo of cleats on tile long gone as the last of their teammates cleared out. Rows of metal lockers stood silent witness, their worn edges reflecting the fluorescent light buzzing faintly above. The air smelled of sweat, damp jerseys, and the sharp bite of disinfectant, the post-practice stillness shattered by the rising voices of Minho and Jisung.
“I’m not saying you’re a bad captain,” Jisung snapped, his arms crossed, his eyes sharp and fiery. “I’m saying you’re a control freak. You don’t trust anyone else to make a play, and you bulldoze over your own teammates to prove you’re the best!”
Minho, still in his practice gear, let out a sharp laugh and leaned against the nearest locker, his tall frame towering over Jisung. “A control freak? That’s rich, coming from you. Do you even know how much pressure I’m under? I’m the one who has to make the decisions. I’m the one who has to answer for it when we lose!”
“Yeah, because apparently, you think nobody else is good enough to handle it!” Jisung shot back, stepping closer. “You treat the team like your personal fan club. Newsflash, Lee Minho, not everything is about you.”
Minho’s dark eyes narrowed, his frustration bubbling over. “Oh, so now I’m selfish? You don’t even play football, Han. What do you know about what it takes to win?”
“Excuse me?” Jisung’s voice rose an octave, his hands gesturing wildly. “You think cheerleading is just cartwheels and pom-poms? We work just as hard as you, if not harder. You wouldn’t survive a single day of our training.”
“Oh, please,” Minho scoffed, pushing off the locker and stepping closer. “Your training? You cheer for us. That’s your job. You’re background noise.”
Jisung’s face flushed crimson, his jaw tightening. “Background noise?” He poked Minho’s chest hard with one finger. “If you’d ever bothered to pay attention, you’d see that we’re the ones keeping the crowd alive when you’re too busy fumbling plays!”
Minho’s jaw clenched, his temper flaring. “Maybe if you spent less time critiquing me and more time doing whatever it is you call cheerleading, we’d both have less to argue about!”
Their voices echoed off the tiled walls, the words sharper and louder than either of them intended.
Minho ran a hand through his damp hair, exhaling sharply. Why was Jisung so good at getting under his skin? His sharp tongue, his endless critiques, the way he stood there all defiant and unshakable—it all made Minho want to yell and…
His eyes drifted lower for a split second, taking in the way Jisung’s uniform hugged his lean frame, the curve of his waist accentuated with every indignant breath he took. It wasn’t fair. Jisung wasn’t fair.
“You drive me insane,” Minho muttered, the words slipping out before he could stop them.
“What?” Jisung snapped, blinking up at him.
Minho clenched his fists, his voice rising again. “You’re infuriating! You’re loud, you’re opinionated, you can’t let anything go. And worst of all, you think you’re always right!”
Jisung raised an eyebrow, his mouth opening to retaliate, but Minho kept going, his frustration spilling over. “You’re cocky. You’re stubborn. You’ve got this stupid, sassy attitude that makes me want to—”
“To what?” Jisung challenged, stepping even closer, their faces now inches apart.
Minho’s voice dropped, his anger laced with something darker, something he couldn’t name. “You make me want to shut you up. And that just makes me hate you even more.”
But it wasn’t hate, not really. Because every single thing he listed—every reason why Jisung got under his skin—also made him impossibly, unbearably attractive.
Minho’s gaze flicked to Jisung’s lips, soft and slightly parted as he stared up at him, unflinching. His heart pounded in his chest, his frustration morphing into something he couldn’t control.
"You have infuriated me ever since the day we met," Minho said, his voice tight. “You know that?”
Jisung tilted his head, his brows furrowing. “What are you talking about?”
“That day at the Diner two years ago,” Minho continued, his tone edged with something between anger and longing. “Directly after practice. I made one stupid comment about cheerleaders being all show and no skill, and you—”
“Poured a milkshake over your head,” Jisung finished, a smug smile creeping onto his face. “You deserved it.”
Minho huffed a laugh, shaking his head. “Yeah, I probably did. But do you know what stuck with me? It wasn’t the milkshake. It was you, standing there, all fire and fury, telling me exactly how wrong I was. No one talks to me like that, Han. No one but you.”
Jisung’s cheeks flushed, his confidence faltering. “So what? You’ve been picking fights with me ever since just to relive that moment?”
“Maybe I have,” Minho admitted, his voice softening. “Because every time I get you riled up, every time you look at me like you want to strangle me, it is the fucking best part of my day.”
Jisung stared at him, his breath catching in his throat. “Minho…”
But before he could say anything else, Minho closed the distance between them.
The kiss was firm, almost rough, but there was a gentleness beneath it, an unspoken question that Jisung answered by pulling Minho closer. His hands found their way to Minho’s shoulders, his fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt as he kissed him back with equal fervor.
Minho’s hands slid down to Jisung’s waist, his thumbs brushing over the narrow curve. He groaned softly against Jisung’s lips, the sound sending a shiver down Jisung’s spine.
“You’re impossible,” Minho murmured, his voice low and breathless. “And perfect.”
Jisung pulled back slightly, his cheeks flushed. “You’re just saying that because you’re—”
“Crazy about you?” Minho interrupted, his eyes searching Jisung’s. “Hell yeah, I am. Have been for a while.”
Jisung blinked, his heart hammering in his chest. “But what about all those rumors? All those people you’ve fuc—”
“Rumors,” Minho said firmly. “I’ve never slept with anyone, Jisung. Never even wanted to. Not until you.”
Jisung’s eyes widened. “You’re lying.”
Minho cupped his cheek, his thumb brushing over Jisung’s flushed skin. “I’m not. I’ve been waiting for someone who makes me feel the way you do. And yeah, I didn’t know it at first, but it’s you. It’s always been you.”
Jisung’s breath hitched, his heart twisting in a way that felt both terrifying and exhilarating. “You’re such an idiot,” he whispered, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“Maybe,” Minho said, his voice teasing. “But I'm your idiot.”
Before Jisung could respond, Minho kissed him again, softer this time, but no less passionate. His hands roamed Jisung’s waist, his touch lingering as if to memorize every inch.
Jisung melted into him, his hands tangling in Minho’s hair as their kisses deepened. For the first time, he let himself stop thinking, stop questioning, and just feel.
Their lips moved in sync, the urgency slowly fading into something softer, more deliberate. Minho’s hands stayed firm on Jisung’s waist, his thumbs tracing slow circles over the curve, marveling at how perfectly Jisung fit in his grasp. He felt like he’d finally discovered something he didn’t know he’d been searching for.
Jisung’s lips, full and slightly swollen, glistened with the shared remnants of their kisses. Minho pulled back just enough to take in the sight before him, his breath catching at the faint blush painting Jisung’s cheeks.
Minho could feel his own heart racing as he stared at Jisung, the blush spreading to the tips of his ears despite himself. His dark eyes traveled from Jisung’s kiss-bruised lips to the soft rise and fall of his chest, the way Jisung’s slightly labored breathing mirrored his own.
“You’re fucking beautiful,” Minho whispered, the words escaping him before he could think to stop them. He cupped Jisung’s face gently with both hands, his thumbs brushing over the soft curve of his cheeks. The warmth of Jisung’s skin beneath his touch sent a wave of disbelief coursing through him. “I can’t believe this is real.”
Jisung’s wide eyes blinked up at him, his lips parting slightly as if to respond, but Minho leaned in just enough to brush his nose against Jisung’s. “I mean it,” he murmured, his voice thick with awe. “You’re… perfect.”
The faint pink in Jisung’s cheeks deepened into a full blush, and Minho couldn’t help but smirk. “You already look so good in your cheerleader shorts, but like this…” His voice trailed off, his smirk growing wider.
Jisung’s mouth dropped open in shock before he huffed and lightly smacked Minho’s arm. “You’re the worst.” But the redness in his cheeks betrayed his flustered state as he quickly hid his face in Minho's shoulder.
Minho chuckled, the sound soft and warm. “Guilty as charged.”
The light teasing gave way to a softer moment as Minho’s gaze lingered on Jisung’s flushed face as he again lifted it to look at Minho. He let his hands drop slightly, his fingers brushing over Jisung’s jaw before finally pulling back just enough to meet his eyes fully. “Jisung,” he said, his voice steady but tender, “can I take you out on a date?”
Jisung’s breath hitched. His eyes, dark and filled with wonder, searched Minho’s face for any hint of a joke or insincerity. “You… You’re serious?” he asked, his voice small but edged with disbelief.
Minho tilted his head, his brows furrowing slightly. “Of course I’m serious. Why wouldn’t I be?”
Jisung let out a soft laugh, though it was tinged with nervousness. “You’re you. The captain of the fucking football team, the guy everyone in this school practically worships. And me? I’m just… me.”
Minho frowned for a split second before his expression softened, a warm smile spreading across his face. “You’re not just ‘you,’ Jisung. You’re the only person who makes me feel like this. Like I can’t breathe when you’re not around. Like everything about you drives me insane in the best way possible.”
Jisung’s throat bobbed as he swallowed, his uncertainty giving way to something softer, more hopeful. “You really mean that?”
“Every word,” Minho said firmly. “But if you’re not sure, I get it. How about this: meet me tomorrow after practice at that cat café downtown. No pressure, no expectations. Just you and me, talking. And petting cats.”
Jisung’s heart skipped a beat. The sincerity in Minho’s voice, the warm smile on his face, and the way he looked at Jisung like he was the most precious thing in the world—it was almost too much to process.
“O-okay,” Jisung stammered, his lips curving into a shy smile.
Minho stepped back slowly, his hands finally leaving Jisung’s face. “Good,” he said softly, his grin turning playful again. “Then see you tomorrow, Han.”
He grabbed his black sports bag from the bench nearby, slinging it over his shoulder. His brown hair was disheveled, his lips still red and slightly swollen from their kiss, and the satisfied smirk he wore only added to the undeniable proof of what had just happened between them. He turned to the entrance, pausing only to send Jisung a cheeky wink before opending the old door and disappearing into the barely lit hallway.
The moment the door clicked shut behind Minho, Jisung’s legs gave out beneath him. He slid down the cool metal of the lockers, his knees hitting the tiled floor with a quiet thud. The fact that the floor was rather dirty completely slipped his mind.
His head leaned back against the lockers, his chest rising and falling as he tried to catch his breath. The cold metal pressed against his flushed skin, a sharp contrast to the warmth and giddiness coursing through his body.
A slow, disbelieving smile crept onto his face as the events of the past few minutes replayed in his mind. “Holy shit,” he whispered to himself, his voice shaky but filled with awe.
"Holy shit," he repeated as he pressed his fingers to his lips, still tingling from Minho’s kiss and rough lips that had nearly devoured his.
A giddy laugh bubbled up from his chest, and he let it escape, his head tilting back against the lockers as he laughed softly to himself. He couldn’t believe it. Minho— the Lee Minho—had kissed him. And asked him out.
The thought made his heart race all over again, his cheeks burning with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Minho’s words echoed in his mind: You’re not just you. You’re perfect.
Jisung’s smile grew wider, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he let out another soft laugh. He felt light, almost weightless, like he was floating. His fingers tightened around the edge of his uniform, his mind already racing ahead to tomorrow.
The idea of meeting Minho at the cat café made his stomach flutter with anticipation. He couldn’t believe how much he was looking forward to it, how the thought of seeing Minho again made his chest feel warm and full instead of annoyed and angry.
Huh, what a simple kiss can do to you. But who was he kidding? Nothing about the kiss was simple. Oh no, it was far from it.
As he sat there on the floor, his back against the lockers, Jisung couldn’t stop smiling. For the first time, he let himself believe that maybe, just maybe, this wasn’t too good to be true. And maybe Minho really wanted him, as much as he said.
