In a remote, open clearing far from Forks, where the snow blankets the ground heavily, The Cullens, with their gathered witnesses, stand many feet before the Volturi, the most feared, powerful coven in the vampire world, in order to protect the existence of Renesmee Cullen, a human-vampire hybrid. As they stand, there's a cacophony of howls from the trees as the wolf packs emerge, joining the Cullens and ready to fight with them. Danny Swan stands with Emmett and Rosalie, with whom he's the closest. Carlisle Cullen, the patriarch of the Olympic coven, steps forward.
"Aro. Let us discuss things as we used to. In a civilized manner." he says.
"Fair words, Carlisle. But a little out of place, considering the battalion you've assembled against us." Aro replies, a bit harshly.
"I can promise you, that was never my intent. No laws have been broken." Carlisle assures.
"We can see the child. Do not treat us as fools." Caius butts in.
"She is not an immortal!" Carlisle projects, intending to reach the entirety of the Volturi. "These witnesses can attest to that," he says, nodding to them. "Or you can look," he extends a hand to Renesmee. "See the flesh of human blood in her cheeks."
"Artifice!" Caius accuses. Aro holds up a hand to stop him.
"I will collect every facet of the truth," he says. "And from someone more central to the story...Edward. As the child clings to your newborn mate. I assume...you are involved," he extends a hand. Edward looks down at his daughter, gently placing his hand on her head in comfort, and then looks to Bella before stepping out toward Aro. He steps past Carlisle, closing the distance between he and Aro with each step. As he walks, Bella focuses, attempting to project her shield to him for protection, but it doesn't last long. Danny watches with worry, but his face remaining stoic, as he gets closer and closer. Edward takes Aro's hand, who tops it with other as he sifts through Edward's thoughts and memories. His eyes gleam with wonder as he watches. He brings his attention back to Edward, letting him take his hand back. "I'd like to meet her," he says, a slight tinge of hope lacing his words. Edward looks conflicted before looking back at Bella, reaching his hand out to her, beckoning. Bella gives a look of reassurance to Renesmee before the two of them, and Jacob in his wolf form, step out of the crowd. Everyone on the Cullens' side tenses slightly as they get closer, Danny especially. Bella and Jacob look back at Danny, the silent signal to have him join them. He does so, taking steps away from Emmett and Rose to protect his sister. The four of them make their way to join Edward.
When they make it, Jacob stays back, a low snarl escaping his throat as he paces.
"Ah. Young Bella," Aro says, dragging her name out. Danny looks down at him with subtle disdain. "Immortality becomes you. And your brother," he looks to Danny, who tenses. Renesmee's heartbeat fills his ears suddenly. He laughs maniacally, a giddy expression on his face as he listens and points at her excitedly. "I hear her strange heart," he says. Renesmee looks up at her mother, who nods. The child takes the steps closer to Aro, whose hand is held out to take her's.
"Hello, Aro," she greets, her face expressionless. She looks down at his open hand, instead reaching up to gently press her hand to his cheek, demonstrating her gift, which was similar to that of Aro's.
"Magnifico," he says softly. After a few more seconds, he pulls his face away, standing straight once more. "Half mortal. Half...immortal," he begins as Bella pulls her back. "Conceived and carried by this...newborn. While she was still human."
"Impossible," Caius spits. Aro whirls around to him.
"Do you think they fooled me, brother?" he asks. Edward, Bella, Danny, and Renesmee turn to walk back. Jacob snarls again before joining, earning him a disdainful look from both Aro and Caius.
"Bring the informer forward," Caius demands. The Volturi all begin to rearrange themselves as Irina is brought to the front, to Caius. He points to Renesmee. "Is that the child you saw?" he asks her.
Irina looks to the child, her expression unsure and rightfully fearful. "I'm not sure."
"Jane?" Caius drawls, and Jane looks to Irina.
"She's changed," Irina begins quickly, stopping them from whatever it was he planned to do. "This child is bigger."
"Then your allegations were false," Caius accuses.
"The Cullens are innocent. I take full responsibility for my mistake," she admits, looking at them and mouthing the words, "I'm sorry."
Caius looks to the Volturi Guard, a silent instruction. They begin lighting a torch. Felix and Santiago grab hold of Irina tightly.
"Caius, no!" Edward shouts. Suddenly, Felix and Santiago tear both of Irina's arms from her torso as she screams out in pain.
"IRINA!" Tanya shouts, her concern for her sister getting the best of her. She and Kate begin racing toward her. Felix then finishes the job as he rips her head from her shoulders. Caius grabs the torch as her body falls and sets it ablaze. Aro turns to the enraged sisters sprinting toward him and the Volturi.
Bella, seeing the situation escalate, sets Renesmee on Jacob's back. Many try and fail to restrain Kate, Danny included, as she utilizes her electrical touch to her advantage to she push on. Garrett grabs and keeps hold of her, even as she shocks him as well.
"Blind them," Edward instructs. Zafrina takes action, using her ability to create illusions on Tanya and Kate so they cannot see what is actually happening. They stop struggling, their faces in panicked states.
"Gimme my sight back," Tanya demands.
"Tanya, this is what they want. If you attack now, we all die." he says to her. She reluctantly nods. He looks back at Zafrina, who lets up on her illusions. Kate relaxes in Garrett arms, anguish evident on her face.
Aro looks subtly at Jane as Edward makes his way back to Bella's side. Suddenly, as her attention zeroes in on Edward, the simple word, "Pain" leaves her lips, and he falls to the ground in an immense state of agony. Bella, assessing the situation, focuses, projecting her shield over their entire front, encasing them all. As the pain fades from his body, he stands, rejoining her side. Jane looks for her blocker frantically, to no avail.
"It's working," Edward mumbles to Bella. Jane then finds that it's Bella who is crippling her power. In a slight fury, she steps forward. Alec quickly stops her as he begins to let out his devastating, sensory-deprivation vapor, which is black in color. It doesn't make it far, though, as Aro puts a hand out to stop him. He draws it back in.
"Aro, you see that there is no law broken here," Carlisle attempts to ease the quickly escalating situation.
"Agreed. But, does that then follow that there is no danger?" he begins. Turning to the rest of his coven, he projects. "For the first time in history...humans pose a threat...to our kind. Their modern technology has given birth to weapons that could destroy us. Maintaining our secret has never been more imperative. In such perilous times, only the known is safe. Only the known...is tolerable. And, we know nothing of what this child will become. Can we live with such...uncertainty? Spare ourselves a fight today...only to die, tomorrow," he says, his words laced with venom. Many members of the Volturi, mostly the frightened newborns, shake their heads in agreement. He turns back to the Cullens. Bella's face is furious, as are others. Out of nowhere, there's another tension in the air as two figures emerge from the treeline. Aro gasps.
"Alice," Edward says quietly, having heard her thoughts.
"Alice," Aro sounds excited that Alice ended up showing. Alice and Jasper pass the Cullens, giving them all a reassuring look as the continue.
When they get there, they're held back by Demetri and two others.
"My dear, dear Alice, we're so glad to see you here, after all," Aro drawls.
"I have evidence the child won't be a risk to our kind," she starts. Aro looks skeptical. He reaches her hand past Demetri. "Let me show you."
"Brother?" Caius says to Aro. Aro gives a gesture to Demetri to let her through. Jasper is held back, earning an unnecessary slap from Demetri.
Aro takes Alice's hand in his, eager to see what she has to show him. After a few moments, Alice's expression falters.
"it doesn't matter what I show you. Even when you see," she barks, snatching her hand back. "you still won't change your decision." She turns to Bella then, mouthing the word, "Now."
Bella looks pained as she looks at Renesmee for what may be the last time before going to Jacob's head.
"Take care of my daughter," she whispers. Jacob takes that as his cue, turning and sprinting past everyone into the trees.
"Get them," Caius orders to Santiago. Alice then turns back to Aro, before bending down to roundhouse kick him high into the air. He lands on his feet, sliding back a bit. He regains his footing, furious. Alice is suddenly grabbed.
"Take her away," Aro orders, his gaze fixed upon the tensing Cullens and wolves. As she's brought into the crowd of Volturi, Carlisle attempts to save her.
"Let her go!" he shouts, before using his supernatural speed to sprint at them. Volturi Guard members rush at him to cease his attack, of whom he quickly deals, slamming them on their asses. Aro sees him coming, and steps into a sprint as well. They both jump high up. They collide in midair, and when they separate and land, a body thuds. Aro stands with a vicious smile plastered on his face as he holds Carlisle's head in his hand. Esme shrieks in horror as Carlisle's body is set on fire, the rest of the Cullens matching her horror. The final straw had been ticked. The Cullens all rush at the Volturi. Sam snarls at his pack before they fall into step with the rushing vampires. Aro's face is stoic as he sends in all of his fighters. They all collide in a frenzy of teeth, limb-shattering, and ferocity.
Jasper grabs hold of an enemy, using them as balance to jump and kick another coming to their defense. Landing, he flips the one he held over, rolling and tearing their head off as he went. Rosalie grabbed one by the throat, slamming them down onto the ground. Quil attacks a vampire, who throws him off. But being distracted, Paul jumps on him and finishes him.
Danny takes on two enemies at once, having added strength because he was still a newborn. He uses his power to paralyze one after grabbing them by the throat, then flips onto the other's shoulders and twists until his head snaps off. Danny jumps off as that one's body falls and goes out the paralyzed one. He grabs her arms and pulls until they come clean off.
Jane circles the ongoing fighting. She sees Demetri in a tight spot with Jasper, and gives him the advantage by putting Jasper through her power. Bella sees this and quickly projects her shield to help Jasper. Jane notices her aid, and looks to her brother. He gets up and rushes at her, tackling her to the ground and shattering her defenses on Jasper. Jasper, now susceptible to Jane, stops mid-attack, mouth agape and staggering. Demetri pushes him off balance as he sinks to his knees. Felix grabs hold of Jasper's arms, and Demetri chops at his neck, sending his head flying off. Alice cries out in anguish, struggling against the ones holding her captive.
Bella, still struggling with Alec, kicks him off. Emmett finishes off someone he was fighting and sees her struggling with Alec. He rushes over, in a fit of rage and protectiveness over her, tackling him before he could touch her. He stomps his foot on Alec's throat, pushing him into the snowy earth. He grabs his torso tight and pulls, separating his head as he throws the rest of his body away. Jane stumbles as she sees her brother's body land.
Alice flips over her two captors, tangling their arms and giving her the perfect chance to tear them off.
In the woods, Jacob runs as fast as he can with Renesmee on his back. Santiago is hot on their trail.
Demetri meets Edward's eyes, who rushes at him angrily. He punches at Demetri, who dodges it and grabs his leg, flipping him in the air and having him land hard.
Seth collides with a vampire in air, tearing them apart as he lands. Unfortunately, he lands in front of Jane. He looks up from the body, snarling and growling at her. This comes to a stop, though, as she uses her painful powers on him. He staggers, in an immeasurable amount of pain and whining. He's suddenly grabbed by Felix, who grips him in a chokehold. In a last struggle, Felix finally snaps Seth's neck, and the canine falls limp in his arms. He drops him. Leah looks up from her kill, her face softening as she sees her brother, taking his last breath and dying. She howls, signalling to all the wolves that one has fallen.
Jacob hears the howl from where he is, and whines, distracted as he runs. Renesmee, worried at Santiago rapidly gaining on them, shouts his name. Santiago suddenly leaps from a tree he chased from, almost grabbing Renesmee.
"Watch out!" she shouts, and Jacob seemingly snaps out of his trance, jumping and facing Santiago as they roll in a tussle, Renesmee clinging to Jacob tightly. It ends with Jacob continuing on, Santiago's head and body landing in the snow with a thud.
Danny rushes at the Volturi member running at him, sliding at the last minute to trip them. As they land on their chest, Danny quickly gets up and presses down on them, making them unable to stand as the pulls at their head. After a slight struggle, it cracks and their head comes right off.
Benjamin looks around him, seeing that the Cullens were outmatched and struggling. Torn between what to do, he crashes his fist into the earth with a shout of effort, causing a massive quake as the ground begins to separate, revealing a large ravine with boiling magma at the bottom. Some Volturi members fall in, including the ones who had Bella outmatched as she kicks them in.
Esme, in a fight with an enemy who had his hands wrapped around her body, falls as the ground disappears beneath her. She holds on, the Volturi member not releasing his hold on her. Leah, seeing this from the other side, jumps from the vampires holding her and onto the one trying to drag Esme in. She pulls him off, but sadly begins to plummet herself. Esme looks at the sight in horror as Leah lands in the magma.
Edward, pinned to the ground by Demetri, slides into the cracking ground. He quickly adjusts himself, staying upright as his claws scrape against the rock to catch himself. Demetri, whose view is obstructed by a falling piece of the rock, begins to walk away with a satisfied smile, thinking Edward was now dead. Suddenly, a large crash comes from the ravine as Edward smashes through the rock and reappears, jumping at Demetri. Caught by surprise, Edward easily overtakes Demetri, holding his head over his shoulder as he tugged. Eventually, Demetri's head flies over Edward's shoulder and away.
Felix sees Danny distracted by another enemy and races toward him. He kicks at his back, sending Danny flying. He lands, sliding. Rosalie stands with him as they both run at Felix. Danny jumps over him, landing behind and putting him in a chokehold as Rosalie slides and trips him, sending him to his knees. Emmett comes up to finish the job, running and kicking Felix's chest. At the released pressure from his body, Felix's head rips off and is held in Danny's arms as his body falls to the ground.
Jane, overwhelmed by the death of her side around her, locks eyes with Alice, who begins speeding toward her. Jane attempts to use her powers, but to no avail, as Bella is shielding Alice. Jane begins to try and escape. As she looks back and realizes Alice has disappeared, she looks in front of her just as Alice lands, grabbing her by the throat. She holds her down, presenting her to an approaching Sam, who drops the hand of a Volturi member he killed. Alice throws Jane down in front of him, and Sam immediately begins to tear at her, ravaging her head as he rips it off and throws it.
Aro, enraged at the losses he's suffering, looks to Caius, giving him the okay to join the fight. He immediately sprints off to Tanya, grabbing her by the throat. Garrett comes up behind him, catching him by surprise as he kicks him right into Kate's hand. She has him by the back of his neck, and sets off her electricity, which ripples through him painfully. She puts him on his knees. Tanya grabs him by the hair, keeping one hand at his bottom jaw to keep the lower half of his head still. She begins to pull. His cheeks visibly rip horizontally through his head, before his entire head from his upper lip and up coming off.
Vladimir and Stefan, seeing Marcus standing idly, vulnerable, rush at him with their supernatural speed. He sees them coming, and holds his arms out, saying, "Finally." as they collide, twisting his upper body so that he dies torn in half.
Aro finally marches into the battle himself. Edward and Bella see and rush at him. Bella is closer, and goes to strike him, but is thrown high into the air. As she lands, she does so on Edward, sending him to the ground. Aro runs toward them once more. They sit up, seeing his approach. They lock hands, standing. Edward quickly grabs her leg as well and uses Bella to kick Aro back. He throws her up at him and she kicks him back into Edward's hands. Aro fights and turns it so that he's instead pushing Edward's chin with a lot of force. Bella then gets on Aro's shoulders and pulls at his head. He lets go of Edward, who stumbles back, but then rushes forward again to kick Aro's feet out from under him. Hr turns around again and stomps on Aro's back. With no more pressure from him, his head comes off with Bella's persistent tugging. She throws his head, and it rolls, landing facing up at them. Bella quickly grabs the torch and sets his head ablaze.
Aro snaps back to the present, Alice's hand still held in his. He looks around to see that...everyone is still alive.
"Now you know. That's your future," Alice seethes. "Unless you decide on another course."
"We cannot alter our course. The child still poses a grave threat-" Caius butts. Edward overhears.
"But what if you were sure she could remain concealed from the human world? Could we leave in peace?" he asks.
"Of course, but that cannot be known." Caius answers.
"Actually, it can." Edward says. At the treeline, two figures could be seen once again making their way to the clearing, clad in native garments. They stop a couple feet behind Alice.
"I've been searching for witnesses of my own," she explains. "among the Ticuna tribes of Brazil."
"You have enough witnesses-"
"Let him speak, brother." Aro says harshly, cutting Caius off.
"I am half human. Half vampire," the male says. "Like the child. A vampire seduced my mother, who died giving birth to me. My aunt Huilen raised me as her own. I made her immortal."
"How old are you?" Bella asks. He turns to her.
"A hundred and fifty years." he answers.
"At what age did you reach maturity?" Aro asks him.
"I became full-grown seven years after my birth. I have not changed since then."
"And your diet?"
"Blood. Human food. I can survive on either."
"These children...are much like us." Marcus realizes.
"Regardless, the Cullens have been consorting with werewolves. Our natural enemies." Caius retorts. Aro turns and puts a hand on his shoulder, shaking his head.
"Dear ones, there is no danger here. We will not fight...today." Aro says. The Volturi begin turning around, supernaturally sprinting away into the trees. Aro stops right at the treeline, looking back at the Cullens one last time. "Such a prize," he says, before leaving as well.
"We have them on the run, now is the time to attack!" Vladimir says.
"Not today." Carlisle says, shutting him down.
"You're all fools!" Stefan shouts. "The Volturi might be gone. But they will never forgive what happened here." The Cullens ignore him, celebrating. The Romanians run off into the trees. Carlisle and Esme kiss, Danny hugs Rose and Emmett, Garrett holds Tanya and Kate both. Renesmee laughs with Bella and Edward.
They get to see another day with their daughter.
