Super Quick Moby Dick

Summary:

Ever wondered what Moby Dick is even about? Or have you read Moby Dick and want to relive the Pequod's highs and lows without trying to speak 19th century? This is a very reliable and accurate summary of Moby Dick, written like I am your best friend explaining my hyperfixation to you (because I am). Condenses 210k of Herman Melville's favorite whale facts into a very manageable 30k for your enjoyment! Also I point out all the gay stuff and interrupt myself a lot, but Melville does that anyway so it's not much different. Spoiler warning for Moby Dick, obviously.

Couple of quick notes before you start:
- This is intended to be written in a "texting your friend" style of casual writing. As a result, grammar and punctuation is not always accurate. Slang words and over-capitalization is also frequent. This is intentional.
- This is not meant to be a replacement to actually reading Moby Dick for class. For fun, sure! But if you have to read it for class, please either actually read it or go find a professional summary so you don't fail.
- I completed this over the course of a semester in college where one of my literary seminars was on Moby Dick, so I was writing this as I was reading the book. As a result, some things I state may be inaccurate at first, but if that is the case I typically added parentheses after the fact to correct myself.
- The idea for this fun, casual summary was heavily inspired by Overly Sarcastic Productions on Youtube. If you haven't heard of them, go look them up, they are super fun and funny and I credit this idea to them.

Queequeg: First harpooner. Maori. Ishmael’s husband.

Ahab: Captain. Leg got bitten off by a whale.

Moby Dick: The whale. Ate Ahab’s leg. White.

The Pequod: The ship. Big and old and fucked up.

Starbuck: First mate. Cautious and superstitious.

Stubb: Second mate. Happy-go-lucky and careless.

Flask: Third mate. A little too driven and occasionally manic.

Tashtego: Second harpooner. Native American. Confident.

Daggoo: Third harpooner. Free African.

Dough-Boy: White servant boy. Meek and fearful.
