Work Text:

Doyoung's matchmaking agency, once a modest endeavor tucked away in the heart of Seoul, suddenly began to attract attention like never before, it was like it happened overnight. Word of his unparalleled success spread like wildfire, drawing clients from all corners of the city and beyond, from all kinds of backgrounds and social circles. With each successful matchmaking process, Doyoung's reputation soared, cementing his agency as the go-to destination for those in search of true love. As the demand for his exceptional services grew, Doyoung expanded his team little by little, handpicking individuals who shared his passion for bringing hearts together. Together, they fine-tuned their approach, blending good strategies helped by technology with timeless matchmaking techniques to create a formula for success unlike any other.

Before long, Doyoung's agency became synonymous with love itself, its name whispered in hushed tones among hopeful romantics and skeptical cynics alike. From star-crossed lovers to power couples bound by destiny, Doyoung's portfolio boasted a dazzling array of success stories, each one a testament to his unwavering dedication to his craft. But amidst the flurry of newfound fame, Doyoung's matchmaking agency wasn't a revolving door of clients coming and going at a whim. Instead, it was a sanctuary of intentionality and dedication, where each client was welcomed with open arms and guided with care and precision. For him, the true measure of success lay not in the number of matches made, but in the lives forever changed by the magic of love.

As the seasons turned one after another, Doyoung's matching agency continued to thrive, its legacy etched into the fabric of Seoul's romantic tapestry. And though Doyoung himself remained a solitary figure on the sidelines, his heart beat with the satisfaction of knowing that, through his work, countless others had found the love they so desperately sought.

Despite his reserved demeanor and composed exterior, Doyoung's true passion burned brightly within him. Behind the meticulously organized files and carefully curated client profiles lay a heart that beat with an unwavering love for love itself.

From a young age, Doyoung had been captivated by the intricacies of human connection, drawn to the unspoken language of love that transcended barriers of language, senses and culture. While others pursued more tangible pursuits, Doyoung found solace in the delicate slow dance of hearts intertwining, each beat a symphony of emotion waiting to be orchestrated. It was this deep-seated passion that drove him to establish his matchmaking agency, a sanctuary where the flames of love could be nurtured and kindled anew for anyone that came across that door.

For Doyoung, the true reward lay not in the accolades or recognition, but in the profound sense of fulfillment that came from witnessing the transformative power of love firsthand. As he meticulously crafted each match, pouring over compatibility charts and weaving together the threads of destiny, Doyoung found himself enveloped in a sense of purpose unlike any other. Each success story became a testament to the enduring strength of love, a beacon of hope in a world often shrouded in darkness.

And though he remained an enigma to those around him, Doyoung's devotion to his craft spoke volumes, his actions echoing the sentiments of his heart louder than words ever could. For him, the pursuit of love was not just a business venture, but a calling, an endless journey fueled by the boundless depths of his affection for this life-changing emotion.

Doyoung’s team consisted of four matchmakers, each one chosen for their unique talents and unwavering commitment to the craft of love. Together, they formed a tight-knit unit, united by a shared passion for helping others find their happily ever after. With Doyoung at the helm, the team operated with a level of discretion and professionalism that set them apart from the competition. Rather than focusing on quantity, they prioritized quality, taking the time to truly understand each client's desires, dreams, and fears before embarking on the journey of matchmaking.

From the initial consultation to the final follow-up, every step of the matchmaking process was carefully curated and guided by the expert hands of Doyoung and his team. They took pride in their ability to not only bring hearts together but to nurture and support those connections long after the initial spark had ignited. And while their approach may have been methodical and reserved, there was an undeniable warmth and sincerity that permeated every interaction within the walls of Doyoung's agency. For them, matchmaking was a labor of love, a calling that they approached with a kind of reverence each and every day.

Even with the fierce competition from other matchmaking agencies focused on quantity over quality, Doyoung's agency stood tall, unwavering in its dedication to the art of matchmaking. While others may have boasted larger client lists and flashy marketing campaigns that appeared on billboards, TV or ads, Doyoung and his team let their work and results speak for themselves, his clientele driven by recommendations that went from hearts to hearts. From whispered conversations in coffee shops to glowing testimonials on social media, their reputation spread far and wide, drawing in clients who sought more than just a quick fix, they sought a true connection. With a focus on personalized attention and genuine connection, each success story was a testament to their commitment to understanding the intricacies of love and guiding their clients toward fulfilling, lasting relationships.

But despite their dedication to quality matchmaking, the agency decided to heed the suggestion of one of their matchmakers, Sooyoung, and open a special spot close to February for those desperate souls yearning for love. While they took immense pride in their meticulous approach and lasting effects, they saw this as an opportunity to offer a taste of their services to newer clients. This special spot on the agenda, designed as a trial run, focused on arranging dates rather than guaranteeing lasting connections. It allowed newcomers to experience firsthand the care and attention to detail that the agency was known for.

The notice on their social media announcing the opening of special spots close to the month of love was crafted with care and attention to be perceived as a beacon of hope and possibility in the troublesome world of love.

As the spots opened up for reservation, uncertainty quickly dissolved into eager anticipation as clients clamored to secure their chance at love. Doyoung's carefully crafted system, a testament to his meticulous nature, ensured that each matchmaker was fully booked in no time, leaving no spot unclaimed.

Together, Doyoung and his team stood ready to guide their clients toward the love they so desperately sought, each one bringing their own unique talents and spirit to the table. With hearts full and hands busy, they embarked on this journey together, united by a shared belief in the transformative power of love.

Being the face of the agency; Doyoung intentionally kept fewer spots in his agenda than his coworkers. This decision stemmed from his meticulous nature and his desire to ensure that every detail of each match received his full attention and care. While Doyoung understood the importance of his role as the public face of the agency, he also recognized the talents and contributions of his coworkers. He wanted to give them the opportunity to shine and have their work appreciated by clients as well.

His first appointment for this special season began quite dramatically, the sound of the office door opening abruptly drew Doyoung's attention away from the papers scattered across his desk. He looked up to see a young woman standing in the doorway, her eyes red and swollen, a stark contrast to the designer bag slung over her shoulder. With a gentle smile, Doyoung motioned for her to take a seat, silently acknowledging the pain etched on her face. As she settled into the chair, her voice trembled slightly as she explained her reason for being there—it was going to be her first Valentine's Day alone in five years, and she desperately wanted a date.

With a reassuring nod, Doyoung listened attentively as she poured out her heart, sharing the details of her recent breakup and the ache of loneliness that now loomed over her like a dark cloud. As she spoke, Doyoung's mind raced, already formulating a plan to help her find solace in the midst of her pain. He offered her a tissue and a kind word of comfort, assuring her that she was not alone in her struggle nor that she was going to be on Valentine’s day.

They discussed her preferences and interests, crafting a vision for the perfect date that would serve as a beacon of hope in the midst of her Valentine's Day blues. And though the wounds of betrayal may still be fresh, Doyoung was determined to help her reclaim her sense of worth and rediscover the beauty of love or friendship, even in its most unexpected forms. As Doyoung delicately probed for details to craft the perfect profile for the young woman, she gradually began to regain her composure, her voice steadying as she recounted her preferences and desires for the ideal date.

"I guess I've always been drawn to simplicity," she began, her words flowing more freely now. "I don't need grand gestures or extravagant displays of affection..." She paused, her gaze drifting momentarily as memories of happier times danced through her mind.

With a deep breath, she continued, her voice growing stronger with each passing moment. "I love spending time outdoors, especially by the water," she confessed, a hint of longing in her tone. "There's something about the sound of waves crashing against the shore that soothes me. Maybe a stroll along the beach at sunset would be nice, or even just sitting by a quiet lake, watching the ripples across the surface."

"And music," she added, her eyes lighting up with excitement. "I've always been a sucker for live music. Maybe we could catch a local band playing at a café or lounge." Despite the pain of her heartbreak, she was determined to embrace the beauty of life and love once more, and Doyoung was honored to be a part of her journey toward healing and happiness.

As Doyoung listened to Giselle's vision for her ideal date, he couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for her resilience and clarity of what she needed in this moment of vulnerability. "Giselle, your idea for the date is truly beautiful," Doyoung began, his words infused with genuine warmth and empathy. "I have no doubt that we can find someone who shares your ideals and appreciates the beauty that you love."

He paused, the word "date" lingering on his tongue, its simplicity contrasting sharply with his usual terminology of "partner" when discussing long-lasting relationships. But as he spoke, Doyoung understood the significance of meeting Giselle where she was on her journey, a place of healing and rediscovery.

"I know that in our line of work, we often talk about finding a partner for life," Doyoung continued, his voice soft and reassuring. "But sometimes, a simple date can be just as meaningful, especially in moments of healing. And while we may not be seeking a stable relationship right now, there is still beauty to be found in connecting with others and sharing moments of joy and companionship."

He offered Giselle a gentle smile, hoping to convey his understanding and support for her journey. "Rest assured, Giselle, we will find the perfect date for you," Doyoung assured her, his commitment unwavering. "Your happiness is our priority, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that your Valentine's Day is filled with love, laughter, and new beginnings."

With a shaky breath, Giselle reached up to wipe away her tears with the sleeve of her designer shirt, a small gesture of defiance against the pain that threatened to overwhelm her.

"Thank you," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper but filled with raw emotion. "I'm sorry, this appointment was made out of despair and a bit of desperation,’’ She let out a breathy chuckle, ‘’but... I can see now why people search for you, Doyoung."

"Thank you, Giselle," Doyoung urged, his voice gentle but unwavering. "Also trust in yourself and in the resilience of your heart. And know that no matter what the future may hold, you are deserving of love and happiness, now and always."

Throughout the day, Doyoung's matchmaking agency buzzed with activity as clients streamed in, each one eager to find that perfect Valentine's Day date. From the hopeful romantics to the weary hearts seeking solace, Doyoung and his team welcomed them all with open arms, ready to help them on their quest for love.

With each consultation, Doyoung and his matchmakers listened intently to the hopes and dreams of their clients, crafting personalized plans tailored to their unique desires and preferences. From quiet walks by the beach to lively nights out on the town, no detail was too small as they worked tirelessly to ensure that each client's Valentine's Day was nothing short of magical. As the hours passed and the sun dipped below the horizon, the consultation room remained alive with the sound of laughter and conversation, a testament to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. And though the day may have been long, Doyoung and his team never wavered in their dedication to helping others find happiness and fulfillment in the arms of someone special.

As the last client of the day left the office, a sense of satisfaction washed over Doyoung and his team, knowing that they had played a part in bringing joy and love into the lives of so many. And as they prepared to close up shop for the night, they couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation for the magic that awaited their clients on Valentine's Day—a day filled with promise, hope, and the endless possibilities of love.

As night settled in and the office quieted down, Doyoung gathered with his matchmakers in the common area, the heart of their operation where all the magic truly began. Here, amidst the soft glow of lamplight and the comforting hum of conversation, they came together to transform their carefully crafted profiles into potential matches that sparkled with promise and possibility. With their clients' profiles spread out before them, each matchmaker poured over the details with a sense of purpose and determination. Sooyoung's eyes sparkled with mischief as she imagined the perfect blend of humor and charm for her client, while Renjun's fingers danced across the page as he sketched out the contours of an artistic soul waiting to be discovered.

Nayeon's bubbled up as she envisioned the joy and laughter that would fill her client's date, while Sohee's gentle smile spoke volumes of the compassion and understanding he poured into each match he made. And at the center of it all, Doyoung's steady gaze swept across the table, his mind already spinning with ideas and possibilities as he worked to bring his clients' dreams to life.

"The database is just the beginning," Doyoung remarked, his voice a quiet reminder of the human touch that infused every match they made. With each passing moment, the table became a canvas upon which they painted the tapestry of love, weaving together threads of hope and longing to create something truly beautiful. And as they worked, they couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and fulfillment knowing that their efforts would bring joy and happiness to so many.

As the night wore on and the matches began to take shape, a sense of excitement filled the air, the anticipation of Valentine's Day hanging like a veil of magic over their heads.

"Sooyoung, what do you think about pairing Tae with someone who shares his love for adventure and spontaneity?" Doyoung suggested.

Sooyoung's eyes lit up with enthusiasm as she considered the idea. "I love it! How about someone who enjoys outdoor activities like hiking or rock climbing?" As she talked, she went over some files of other clients to search for that heavenly match.

As the night wore on, the matchmakers reluctantly decided to call it a day, knowing that they had done all they could for their current clients. However, they remained open to the possibility of new matches in the days to come, afterall love can strike at any moment.

The following days brought with them a fresh wave of clients, each one seeking their own version of love and companionship. Doyoung and his team welcomed them with open arms, eager to continue their mission of bringing hearts together and creating meaningful connections. As they sifted through the profiles of their new clients, they couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation, knowing that each new match had the potential to change lives and spark the flames of love. And as they worked tirelessly to craft the perfect pairings, they remained steadfast in their belief that love was always worth fighting for, no matter the obstacles that lay in its path. With Valentine's Day fast approaching, they knew that their work was more important than ever, and they were eager to help their clients find love in time for the special day.

Throughout their third day, the consultation room buzzed with activity as the matchmakers met with their clients, listening attentively to their hopes and dreams for love. With each passing hour, new connections were forged and potential matches began to take shape, as the matchmakers worked tirelessly to ensure that every client had a chance at finding happiness in time for Valentine's Day.

Almost at the end of the day, after Doyoung had seen and talked thoroughly with another two clients, Doyoung was doing a quick check on the profiles he already had in line to get a date when he heard the door of his office opening.

As Jaehyun entered the consultation room, Doyoung couldn't help but be struck by his appearance. With a kind but shy smile and dimpled cheeks, Jaehyun looked like he belonged on the cover of a magazine. Doyoung quickly thought that, even someone as outwardly confident as Jaehyun could have their own struggles when it came to matters of the heart.

Putting aside any preconceived notions, Doyoung composed himself and greeted Jaehyun with his usual warmth and professionalism. Taking out his glasses to focus on Jaehyun's profile, Doyoung's demeanor remained calm and collected, his years of experience as a matchmaker guiding him through the consultation.

"Welcome, Jaehyun. It's a pleasure to meet you," Doyoung said, his voice steady as he gestured for Jaehyun to take a seat. "Please, make yourself comfortable. How can we help you today?" Despite Jaehyun's charming exterior, Doyoung could sense a hint of vulnerability lurking beneath the surface. With a keen eye, he was determined to help Jaehyun find the connection he was searching for, no matter the obstacles they may face along the way.

Doyoung nodded in understanding as Jaehyun stated his purpose for seeking assistance in finding a date as many others had asked in this very same office. "Of course, Jaehyun. Let's get started," he replied, his tone gentle and reassuring as he began to gather the necessary information to create Jaehyun's profile.

"First, could you please provide me with your full name?" Doyoung asked, his fingers poised over the keyboard as he prepared to input the information.

"Jeong Jaehyun," Jaehyun responded, his voice confident and unwavering as he provided his name.

Doyoung nodded, typing the name into his computer with practiced ease. "And your date of birth?" he continued, expecting a typical response.

But as Jaehyun answered, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of surprise wash over him. "February 14th," Jaehyun replied, his tone matter-of-fact but with a hint of amusement for the kind of ironic situation.

Doyoung's eyebrows shot up in surprise, his fingers momentarily freezing on the keyboard as he processed the information. February 14th—the most romantic day of the year, and here was Jaehyun, born on Valentine's Day itself.

"Ah, I see," Doyoung replied, his voice carefully neutral as he resumed typing. "A Valentine's Day baby. That's quite unique."

As he continued to gather Jaehyun's information, Doyoung couldn't shake the feeling that there was something special about this particular client. Whether it was the coincidence of his birthdate or something more, Doyoung was determined to help Jaehyun find the perfect date for Valentine's Day—a date that would be as unforgettable as the man himself.

"Finding a date on your birthday, especially Valentine's Day, must be quite the unique experience," Doyoung remarked, his tone carefully neutral as he continued to gather Jaehyun's information. "What made you decide to seek assistance from a matchmaking agency?"

Jaehyun's expression softened slightly, shrugging as he considered the question. "I suppose... I just haven't had much luck in the dating scene lately," he admitted, his voice slightly tinted with amusment. "And with Valentine's Day approaching, I thought... well, why not give it a try?"

Doyoung nodded in understanding. "I understand," Doyoung replied, his voice filled with empathy. "Rest assured, Jaehyun, we're here to help you find the perfect date, whatever the occasion. Whether it's your birthday or Valentine's Day, everyone deserves to feel loved and appreciated."

With those words, Doyoung was determined to make Jaehyun's birthday —and Valentine's Day— a day to remember for all the right reasons.

Doyoung continued with the routine questions, his fingers flying across the keyboard as he input Jaehyun's personal information into the system. "And could you provide me with your occupation?" Doyoung asked, his tone gentle but professional.

"I'm a graphic designer," Jaehyun replied simply, a hint of pride in his voice.

Doyoung nodded, typing the information into the appropriate field. "And what are some of your interests and hobbies?" he continued, wanting to learn more about Jaehyun's personality and passions.

Jaehyun paused for a moment, considering his response. "I enjoy photography, playing the guitar and piano, and exploring new things around the city," he said, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Doyoung smiled in return, finding himself intrigued by Jaehyun's diverse interests. "Those sound like wonderful hobbies," he remarked, his voice genuine. "I'm sure they make for great conversation starters on a date."

As they continued with the consultation, Doyoung couldn't shake the feeling that there was something special about Jaehyun. Doyoung found himself drawn to Jaehyun's quiet charm and genuine sincerity. And as they worked together to create the perfect profile, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for the journey that lay ahead, filled with the promise of love and possibility.

"Could you tell me about your ideal date?" Doyoung inquired, his tone warm and inviting.

Jaehyun's eyes lit up with enthusiasm as he considered the question. "I suppose my ideal date would involve good food, great conversation, and maybe a stroll through the city under the stars," he mused, his voice tinged with excitement.

Doyoung nodded in agreement, mentally noting Jaehyun's preference for a romantic and intimate setting. "That sounds lovely," he replied, a smile playing at the corners of his lips. "And what qualities are you looking for in a potential partner?"

Jaehyun's expression softened, a thoughtful look crossing his features as he considered the question. "I suppose I'm looking for someone who is kind, compassionate, and genuine," he said, his voice quiet but earnest. "Someone who shares my values and interests, and who isn't afraid to be themselves around me."

Doyoung nodded as he typed, his heart swelling with admiration for Jaehyun's sincerity. "Those are wonderful qualities to look for in a partner," he remarked, his voice filled with genuine warmth. "I have no doubt that we'll be able to find someone who fits the bill perfectly."

The conversation went on for a bit when Jaehyun, looking more comfortable with the space and Doyoung himself, dared to voice a question that he seemed eager to know the answer of ‘’You have such dedication for other’s love, but let me ask, if it’s not too inappropriate… Do you have a partner?’’

Doyoung paused for a moment, his fingers hovering over the keyboard as he considered Jaehyun's question. It wasn't one he hadn't heard before, but something about the way Jaehyun asked it made him pause.

"I... don't have a partner," Doyoung replied, his voice quiet but honest. "I'm focused on helping others find love and happiness, but I haven't quite found it for myself yet."

There was a brief silence as Jaehyun processed Doyoung's response, his expression thoughtful. "I see," he said, his tone gentle but probing. "Do you believe in love? In finding that special someone who completes you?"

Doyoung's gaze softened, a flicker of emotion passing through his eyes. "I do," he admitted, his voice tinged with quiet conviction. "I believe that everyone deserves to find love, no matter their circumstances. And while I may not have found it for myself just yet, I hold onto hope that one day, I will."

There was a moment of shared understanding between them, a silent acknowledgment of the universal desire for connection and companionship. And as they continued with the consultation, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for Jaehyun's honesty and vulnerability. Doyoung shook his head lightly, shifting the conversation back to Jaehyun's preferences and interests, his professionalism guiding the consultation forward.

As the consultation came to an end, Jaehyun rose from his seat, a warm smile gracing his lips as he extended his hand towards Doyoung. "Thank you, Doyoung," he said, his voice filled with genuine gratitude. "I truly appreciate all of your help today."

Doyoung returned the smile, his handshake firm and reassuring. "It was my pleasure, Jaehyun," he replied, his tone warm and sincere. "I'm confident that we'll find you the perfect match for Valentine's Day."

As they parted ways, Jaehyun's body language spoke volumes of his appreciation and respect for Doyoung. He held himself with a confident yet relaxed posture, his movements fluid and graceful as he made his way towards the door.

Before leaving, Jaehyun turned back to face Doyoung, his expression softening with a hint of vulnerability. "Thank you for listening, Doyoung," he said, his voice quiet but earnest. "I know that finding love can be challenging, but with your guidance, I feel hopeful that I'll find someone special."

Doyoung returned the smile, his heart lightening at Jaehyun's words. Perhaps, in helping Jaehyun find his perfect match, he might just find something special for himself as well. With Jaehyun's charisma lighting the way, Doyoung felt a renewed sense of hope and possibility stirring within him—a hope that Valentine's Day might just hold the promise of love and happiness for them both.

Doyoung had encountered countless clients over the years, each with their own unique charm and appeal. While he had undoubtedly seen his fair share of attractive and charismatic individuals, it was not uncommon for someone like Jaehyun to seek out assistance in matters of the heart. But despite Jaehyun's undeniable charm, Doyoung remained steadfast in his professionalism. His years of experience as a matchmaker had taught him to approach each client with empathy, understanding, and a dedication to helping them find love and happiness, regardless of their background or circumstances.

While he couldn't deny the magnetic pull of Jaehyun's personality, Doyoung's focus remained squarely on his role as a matchmaker. His commitment to his clients' happiness was unwavering, and he approached each consultation with the same level of care and attention, regardless of the client's appearance or demeanor.

As night descended upon the city, Doyoung and his team gathered for their nightly meeting to discuss the logistics of their matchmaking efforts. The atmosphere in the room was buzzing with energy and excitement, each member eager to share their progress and insights from the day's consultations.

"Sooyoung, how are the preparations coming along for Tae's date?" Doyoung inquired, his voice calm and measured as he turned to his colleague.

Sooyoung flashed a confident smile, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "Everything's set and ready to go," she replied, her tone brimming with assurance. "I've lined up a few potential venues for their date, all with a romantic ambiance that I think Tae will love."

Doyoung nodded in approval.. "Excellent work, Sooyoung," he remarked, his voice filled with praise. "I have no doubt that Tae will be thrilled with your arrangements."

As the meeting continued, each member of the team shared their progress and updates on their respective clients, their voices blending together in a symphony of collaboration and camaraderie. And as they worked together to finalize the details of their matchmaking efforts, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude for the dedicated team that surrounded him—a team united in their mission to spread love and happiness to all who sought it.

But as the team delved deeper into the logistics of their matchmaking efforts, they began to realize a discrepancy in the numbers. Sooyoung furrowed her brow as she reviewed the client list, her expression growing increasingly concerned.

"Wait a minute," she said, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "It looks like one of the clients didn't attend their consultation with me today."

Doyoung's eyebrows shot up in surprise as he processed the information. "That's odd," he remarked, his tone thoughtful. "We can't have an uneven number of clients, especially with Valentine's Day fast approaching."

Nayeon chimed in, her voice filled with concern. "What should we do, Doyoung? We can't just leave one client out in the cold," she said, her eyes darting around the room as she searched for a solution.

Doyoung paused for a moment, considering their options carefully. "I agree," he said, his voice decisive. "We need to find a solution that ensures all of our clients have the opportunity, regardless of this."

After a brief discussion, the team decided to reach out to the client who had missed their consultation with Sooyoung, offering to reschedule the appointment and provide them with the same level of attention and care as their fellow clients. With their plan in place, they set to work contacting the client and making arrangements to ensure that no one was left behind.

They still had time before Valentine's Day, which allowed the team to breathe a collective sigh of relief. They knew they could use the follow-up consultations with each client to their advantage, allowing them to have a say in potential dates and ensuring that everyone felt heard and valued in the matchmaking process.

"Sooyoung, since we have some follow-up consultations scheduled, we can use that time to discuss potential dates with our clients," Doyoung suggested, his voice filled with determination. "This way, we can ensure that everyone has a chance to provide input and make informed decisions about their matches."

Sooyoung nodded in agreement, a sense of reassurance washing over her. "I'll make sure to schedule follow-up consultations with all of my clients and discuss potential dates with them."

As the team worked together to finalize their plans, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and relief. With their collective expertise and dedication to their clients' happiness, he knew that they would be able to navigate this hurdle and ensure that everyone had the opportunity to find companionship on Valentine's Day.

As the follow-up consultations began, each matchmaker took the opportunity to present their clients with potential matches, carefully curated based on their preferences and interests.

"Sooyoung, could you please share with Tae the profiles of the potential matches we've selected for him?" Doyoung asked, turning to his colleague with a reassuring smile.

Sooyoung nodded, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she pulled up the profiles on her computer screen. "Of course," she replied, her voice confident. "Tae, I've selected a few potential matches for you based on what you told me on our first meeting. Take a look and let me know what you think."

Tae leaned forward, his eyes scanning the profiles with keen interest. As he perused each one, his expression shifted from curiosity to contemplation, clearly considering each potential match carefully. As Tae reviewed the profiles, Sooyoung watched him closely, her heart swelling with anticipation as he waited for his reaction. With each passing moment, the tension in the room seemed to mount, until finally, Tae looked up with a smile.

"I think I've found someone I'd like to meet," he said, his voice filled with excitement.

Nayeon and Sohee followed suit, presenting their clients with potential matches and guiding them through the selection process with care and attention to detail. And as the consultations drew to a close, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction wash over him. With their clients actively engaged in the matchmaking process and excited about the potential matches before them, Doyoung knew that they were one step closer to making it all come true.

As the team continued, they repeated the same procedure with each of their other clients, presenting them with potential matches and guiding them through the selection process with care and attention to detail. Doyoung, ever the composed and meticulous matchmaker, ensured that each client received the same level of dedication and personalized attention. He listened attentively to their feedback and preferences, making note of any specific criteria or preferences they expressed. But as he worked diligently on others, Doyoung’s mind was running around something specific throughout the consultations, Jaehyun, he wondered what his comments were going to be, Doyoung felt a different kind fo excitement, what awaited the Valentine boy himself?

As Jaehyun entered the consultation room for his follow-up appointment, he was greeted by the warm smiles of Doyoung and the rest of the matchmaking team. The atmosphere in the room was relaxed yet filled with anticipation, each member eager to assist Jaehyun in his search for the perfect match.

"Welcome back, Jaehyun," Doyoung said, his voice filled with genuine warmth as he rose from his seat to greet him. "We're glad to see you again."

Jaehyun returned the smile, his charismatic demeanor filling the room with an infectious energy. "Thank you, Doyoung," he replied, his voice smooth and confident. "I'm excited to see what you have in store for me today." As Jaehyun took his seat, he couldn't help but notice the curious glances from the other members of the team. Sooyoung's eyes sparkled with mischief, Renjun's expression was one of genuine interest, and Nayeon and Sohee both wore welcoming smiles.

"Doyoung, who do we have here?" Nayeon asked, her voice bubbling with curiosity as she leaned in to get a better look at Jaehyun.

Doyoung gestured towards Jaehyun with a smile. "Everyone, this is Jaehyun," he said, his tone warm and inviting. "He's one of our newest clients, and I have no doubt that we'll be able to find him the perfect match."

The rest of the team greeted Jaehyun with nods and smiles, their welcoming demeanor putting him at ease. As the consultation began, Jaehyun felt a sense of excitement building within him, he knew that he was in good hands, and that they would be able to make Valentine's Day a day to remember.

As the presentation of potential matches unfolded, Jaehyun listened attentively to Doyoung's explanations and descriptions. His expression remained polite and engaged as he glanced through the profiles, nodding at all the right moments and offering polite comments.

"So, Jaehyun, what do you think?" Doyoung asked, his tone filled with anticipation as he awaited Jaehyun's response.

"They all seem like interesting people," Jaehyun replied, his voice carefully neutral. "I appreciate the effort that went into selecting them."

Doyoung nodded, seemingly satisfied with Jaehyun's response. However, Sooyoung, ever observant, couldn't help but notice the lack of genuine enthusiasm in Jaehyun's eyes as he looked over the profiles. She discreetly observed Jaehyun's body language and expressions, searching for any further signs of disinterest or hesitation. Despite his outwardly composed demeanor, Sooyoung couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more beneath the surface. She knew that it was her duty as a matchmaker to ensure that Jaehyun's needs and desires were truly being met, and she was determined to uncover the truth behind his facade.

So Sooyoung made a mental note to discuss her observations with Doyoung privately. She knew that they needed to address Jaehyun's true feelings and concerns in order to find him the perfect match. And with her keen intuition and attention to detail, she was confident that they would be able to help Jaehyun find the love and happiness he truly deserved.

As the consultation came to an end, Jaehyun rose from his seat, a charming smile gracing his lips as he turned to bid farewell to the team. "Thank you all for your time and effort today," he said, his voice warm and genuine. "I appreciate everything you've done to help me in my search for love."

The rest of the team returned Jaehyun's smile, their expressions filled with gratitude and encouragement. "It was our pleasure, Jaehyun," Doyoung replied, his tone sincere. "We're here to support you every step of the way."

Jaehyun's eyes lingered on Doyoung for a moment longer, a flicker of something unreadable passing through his gaze. "Doyoung, thank you for everything," he said, his voice soft and sincere. "I truly appreciate your guidance and support."

Doyoung met Jaehyun's gaze with a warm smile, his heart swelling with a sense of gratitude and pride. "You're welcome, Jaehyun," he replied, his voice filled with sincerity. "I'm here to help you find the happiness you deserve."

As Jaehyun made his way towards the door, he turned back to face Doyoung one last time, a lingering look of appreciation in his eyes. "I'll see you soon, Doyoung," he said, his voice tinged with a hint of something more. "And hopefully, with your help, I'll find that special someone."

Doyoung returned Jaehyun's gaze with a gentle smile, his heart filled with hope and anticipation for what the future might hold. "I look forward to it, Jaehyun," he replied, his voice steady and reassuring. "Until next time." With that, Jaehyun bid farewell to the team and exited the consultation room, leaving Doyoung with a sense of anticipation and curiosity about what lay ahead. As he watched Jaehyun go, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of connection and understanding between them.

As Doyoung turned to his matchmakers for the usual feedback, he couldn't help but notice the exchanged glances between them. Their subtle expressions spoke volumes, hinting at a shared understanding of the significance of Jaehyun's departure. Sensing the unspoken tension in the room, Doyoung furrowed his brow in curiosity. "Is everything alright?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

Sooyoung, Renjun, Nayeon, and Sohee exchanged another glance before Sooyoung spoke up, her voice carefully measured. "Everything's fine, Doyoung," she replied, her tone reassuring. "It's just... Jaehyun seemed to have a thing with you."

Doyoung's eyebrows shot up in surprise at Sooyoung's words. He hadn't realized that Jaehyun's attention had been so focused on him during their consultation. "I see," he said, his voice thoughtful. "Well, regardless, our priority is to help Jaehyun find the right match."

The rest of the matchmakers nodded in agreement, their expressions reflecting a shared determination to assist Jaehyun in his search for love. "Of course, Doyoung," Renjun replied, his voice filled with resolve. "We'll do everything we can to ensure that Jaehyun finds that perfect date."

As the team gathered around the table to discuss the day's consultations, Sooyoung took a deep breath before bringing up the topic of Jaehyun's apparent lack of attachment towards the potential matches they had presented.

"Doyoung, I couldn't help but notice something during Jaehyun's consultation," Sooyoung began, her voice steady but filled with concern. "It seemed like he wasn't as engaged with the profiles we presented to him. His reactions were polite, but there was a clear lack of enthusiasm."

Doyoung furrowed his brow, his mind racing as he processed Sooyoung's observation. "That's interesting," he replied, his tone thoughtful. "I hadn't picked up on that during the consultation, but now that you mention it, I can see what you mean."

The rest of the team nodded in agreement, their expressions mirroring Doyoung's concern. "It's possible that Jaehyun is looking for something specific that we haven't been able to identify yet," Renjun suggested, his voice filled with uncertainty. "Or perhaps he's not quite ready to commit to the matchmaking process."

Nayeon chimed in, her voice tinged with empathy. "Either way, we need to make sure that Jaehyun feels heard and understood," she said, her tone firm. "We can't force him into something he's not comfortable with."

Doyoung nodded, a sense of determination settling over him. "You're right," he replied, his voice filled with resolve. "We need to approach this with sensitivity. Let's schedule another consultation with Jaehyun to discuss his feelings and concerns further."

With a plan in place, the team set to work preparing for their next meeting with Jaehyun, ready to listen to his needs and offer their support and guidance every step of the way. And as they continued with their discussions, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of determination to help Jaehyun find the love and happiness he deserved, no matter what obstacles they might encounter along the way. As the team discussed their next steps with Jaehyun, there was an underlying sense of uncertainty lingering in the air. They knew that sometimes clients dropped out of the matchmaking process for various reasons, and they couldn't help but wonder if Jaehyun would be one of them.

"So, are we expecting Jaehyun to return for the next appointment?" Doyoung asked, his tone tinged with a hint of apprehension.

Sooyoung exchanged a knowing glance with the rest of the team before speaking up. "Honestly, I'm not sure," she admitted, her voice reflecting the uncertainty of the situation. "Given his apparent lack of enthusiasm during the consultation, it's possible that he may not be fully committed to the process."

Nayeon nodded in agreement, her expression thoughtful. "It wouldn't be the first time a client has dropped out unexpectedly," she added, her voice tinged with resignation. "And if Jaehyun decides not to return, at least we'll have an even number of clients again."

Renjun chimed in. "That's true," he said, his voice filled with a sense of acceptance. "We'll just have to wait and see what happens."

Despite their concerns, the team remained focused on their mission to help their clients find love and happiness. They knew that they couldn't control Jaehyun's decisions, but they were prepared to offer him support and guidance if he chose to continue with the process.

They wrapped up their discussion, and Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation mingled with apprehension. He hoped that Jaehyun would return for the next appointment, but he also knew that they would be ready to adapt and move forward regardless of the outcome.

As the day of Jaehyun's next consultation arrived, the team couldn't help but feel a sense of surprise when he walked through the door, a bright smile lighting up his face as he greeted everyone, particularly engaging with Doyoung.

"Good to see you all again," Jaehyun said, his voice warm and genuine as he made his way to his seat. "I hope you've all been well."

Doyoung returned Jaehyun's smile, feeling a surge of relief wash over him at the sight of their client's return. "We're glad to see you too, Jaehyun," he replied, his voice filled with sincerity. "How have you been?"

Jaehyun's eyes sparkled with amusement as he settled into his seat, his gaze lingering on Doyoung for a moment longer than necessary. "I've been good, thank you," he replied, his tone playful. "But I've been looking forward to our next appointment."

The rest of the team exchanged surprised glances at Jaehyun's enthusiastic demeanor, silently noting the change in his attitude from their previous consultation. It seemed that Jaehyun had returned with renewed energy and enthusiasm, much to their surprise and delight.

"Well, we're excited to continue our work with you, Jaehyun," Doyoung said, his tone filled with encouragement. "Let's get started, shall we?"

And with that, the team set to work discussing Jaehyun's preferences and refining their approach to finding him the perfect match. As the consultation progressed, Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of optimism growing within him. Perhaps Jaehyun's return was a sign that they were on the right track, and that together, they would be able to find him the love and happiness he deserved.

Nayeon and Sohee exchanged a knowing glance before turning their attention to Jaehyun, ready to present the ideas they had been crafting for him and his still undecided date.

"Jaehyun, we've been brainstorming some ideas for your upcoming date," Nayeon began, her voice filled with enthusiasm. "We wanted to make sure it's something special and memorable for both you and your date."

Sohee nodded in agreement, his expression thoughtful. "We know that you're looking for something unique and meaningful, so we've come up with a few options that we think you'll love," he added.

Jaehyun's eyes lit up with interest as he leaned forward, eager to hear their ideas. "I'm excited to hear what you've come up with," he replied, his voice filled with anticipation.

Nayeon and Sohee proceeded to outline their ideas for Jaehyun's date, each suggestion carefully crafted to cater to his interests and preferences. From romantic dinners at exclusive restaurants to adventurous outdoor activities, they presented a variety of options for him to consider.

"We wanted to give you plenty of choices so that you can find something that feels right for you and your date," Nayeon explained, her tone confident.

Sohee nodded in agreement, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "We're confident that whatever you choose, it'll be a night to remember," he added, his voice filled with encouragement.

Jaehyun listened attentively to their suggestions, his expression thoughtful as he considered each option carefully. "These all sound amazing," he replied, his voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you both for putting so much thought into this."

After Nayeon and Sohee finished their presentation, Sooyung and Renjun chimed in with their own ideas, explaining Jaehyun from A to Z about their plans, all details and creative forms of celebrating that special date, Jaehyun nodded along with a quiet smile, thanking them when they too packed up. As the consultation reached its final segment, all eyes turned to Doyoung as he prepared to present his carefully crafted idea for Jaehyun's upcoming date. With a warm smile, Doyoung began to outline his vision, his enthusiasm evident in every word.

"Jaehyun, I've been thinking a lot about your upcoming date, and I believe I have an idea that combines the spirit of Valentine's Day with the significance of your birthday," Doyoung began, his voice filled with excitement. "I propose a romantic evening under the stars, complete with a candlelit dinner at a secluded outdoor venue."

Jaehyun's attention was fully captured by Doyoung's words, his eyes sparkling with interest as he listened intently to the proposal. The idea of a romantic evening under the stars seemed to resonate deeply with him, and he couldn't help but smile at the thought. Doyoung continued to elaborate on his idea, describing the ambiance of the venue and the exquisite menu that would be served. He emphasized the intimate and romantic atmosphere, highlighting the opportunity for Jaehyun and his date to connect on a deeper level while surrounded by the beauty of nature.

"And to top it all off," Doyoung added, his voice filled with enthusiasm, "we can arrange for a special birthday surprise for you, Jaehyun, to commemorate this special occasion."

At the mention of his birthday, Jaehyun's smile widened, his eyes shining with appreciation for Doyoung's thoughtful gesture. It was clear that the idea had struck a chord with him, resonating deeply with his desire for a meaningful and memorable experience. As Doyoung concluded his presentation, the room was filled with a sense of anticipation and excitement. It was clear that Jaehyun was genuinely touched by the idea, and Doyoung couldn't help but feel a surge of satisfaction knowing that he had succeeded in capturing his client's attention and imagination.

Doyoung was confident that his well-crafted idea would create a truly unforgettable experience for Jaehyun and his date, one that would be filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. As Doyoung concluded his presentation, Jaehyun's gaze remained fixed on him, a warm smile gracing his lips as he absorbed every detail of the romantic idea Doyoung had proposed. There was a genuine spark of excitement in Jaehyun's eyes, a testament to the connection he felt with Doyoung's vision.

"Doyoung, this idea is incredible," Jaehyun said, his voice filled with genuine enthusiasm. "I love the thoughtfulness behind it. It's truly special."

Doyoung couldn't help but feel a swell of pride at Jaehyun's reaction, his heart warmed by the genuine appreciation in his client's words. "I'm glad you like it, Jaehyun," he replied, his own smile widening in response. "I wanted to create something truly memorable for you, something that captures the essence of both Valentine's Day and your birthday."

Their eyes met for a moment a bit too long. In that moment, it felt as though time stood still, the rest of the world fading away as Jaehyun and Doyoung shared a brief but meaningful exchange.

Jaehyun rose from his seat, his gaze lingering on Doyoung for a moment longer before he spoke. "Thank you, Doyoung," he said, his voice filled with gratitude. "I can't wait for this date—it's going to be something truly magical."

Doyoung returned Jaehyun's smile, feeling a sense of fulfillment wash over him at the thought of helping his client create a memorable and meaningful experience. "You're welcome, Jaehyun," he replied, his tone sincere. "I'm excited to see how it all unfolds."

With a final nod of appreciation, Jaehyun bid farewell to the team and exited the consultation room, leaving Doyoung with a sense of anticipation for the upcoming date. And as he watched Jaehyun go, Doyoung couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in his client's life, one romantic gesture at a time.

As Jaehyun left the consultation room, the matchmakers couldn't help but exchange knowing glances with each other. It was clear to all of them that Jaehyun's engagement with Doyoung had been something special, a moment that transcended the typical client-consultant relationship, but they didn’t have to say a word.

As Nayeon and Sooyoung took a break from their duties, they found themselves engaged in a lighthearted conversation, the tension of the consultation room momentarily lifted. But as they chatted, a playful joke emerged between them, hinting at a deeper observation that had been lingering in the back of their minds.

"You know, Sooyoung," Nayeon began with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, "I can't help but wonder if Jaehyun is more interested in Doyoung than any of his potential partners."

Sooyoung's lips curled into a knowing smile as she considered Nayeon's remark. "You might be onto something there," she replied, her tone filled with amusement. "There's definitely a certain chemistry between them that's hard to ignore."

The two matchmakers shared a conspiratorial glance, their playful banter masking a deeper understanding of the dynamics at play. It was clear to them that Jaehyun's attention seemed to be drawn more towards Doyoung than any of the potential matches they had presented to him.

"I mean, can you blame him?" Nayeon added with a chuckle. "Doyoung is quite the catch, after all."

Sooyoung nodded in agreement, her expression thoughtful. "True," she replied, her tone tinged with a hint of curiosity. "But I wonder if Doyoung has picked up on Jaehyun's interest."

As they continued to chat, their playful joke evolved into a more serious conversation about the dynamics between Jaehyun and Doyoung. While they couldn't deny the possibility of a potential romantic connection between the two, they also knew that their primary focus was on helping Jaehyun find the right match, whether it be with Doyoung or someone else.

Nayeon then sighed softly, ‘’Despite being head of the company, having his experience and being the one that came up with their logistics procedure to match people, Doyoung was really hard on the head when it came to his own romance.’’

Sooyoung nodded in agreement as she considered the truth behind her colleague's observation. "You're absolutely right, Nayeon," Sooyoung replied, her tone filled with empathy. "For someone who excels at bringing others together and orchestrating perfect matches, Doyoung can be surprisingly hard on himself when it comes to his own love life."

There was a hint of sadness in Sooyoung's voice as she spoke, a reflection of the genuine concern she felt for her colleague. Despite his professional success and expertise in the field of matchmaking, Doyoung seemed to struggle when it came to finding his own happiness in matters of the heart.

"He puts so much pressure on himself to live up to his own standards," Sooyoung continued, her words tinged with a bit of pity. "But sometimes I worry that he's too focused on helping others find love that he forgets to prioritize his own happiness."

Nayeon nodded in agreement, her expression mirroring Sooyoung's concern. "It's like he's afraid to let himself be vulnerable, to take a chance on love," she added, her tone filled with empathy.

But as Nayeon and Sooyoung delved deeper into their discussion about Doyoung's struggles with his own love life, they couldn't help but acknowledge the impact it had on his inability to recognize Jaehyun's interest.

"It makes sense," Nayeon remarked with a half amused expression. "Doyoung is so focused on helping others find love that he often overlooks his own romantic opportunities."

Sooyoung nodded in agreement, her brow furrowing with concern. "He's always been so reserved when it comes to his own feelings," she added. "It's like he's afraid to let himself be vulnerable or not perfect, even when someone as remarkable as Jaehyun is right in front of him."

There was a palpable sense of empathy in Sooyoung's voice as she spoke, a reflection of the genuine concern she felt for her colleague. Despite his expertise in matters of the heart, Doyoung seemed to struggle when it came to recognizing and pursuing his own romantic desires.

"I just wish he could see what we see," Nayeon said with a sigh. "Jaehyun's interest in him is so obvious to everyone else, but Doyoung's own doubts seem to be clouding his judgment."

Sooyoung nodded in agreement, a sense of frustration evident in her expression. "It's like he's trapped in his own head, unable to see the catch that's right in front of him,"

But as they returned to their work, the thought lingered in the back of their minds, a subtle reminder of the complexities of human connection and the unpredictable nature of love. And as they continued with their work, they couldn't help but wonder what the future held for Jaehyun and Doyoung, and whether their paths would ultimately intersect in a way that went beyond the boundaries of their professional relationship.

The days passed and Jaehyun attended two more rounds of consultations, the matchmakers observed his continued interest in the date ideas but noted his lack of enthusiasm towards the profiles presented to him. Despite their best efforts to find a suitable match, Jaehyun remained undecided, leaving the team with an uneven number of clients and a lingering sense of uncertainty.

Doyoung, determined to help Jaehyun find his perfect match, had meticulously crafted two ultimate choices to present to him in his final consultation. Confident in his selections, Doyoung believed that these options would finally resonate with Jaehyun and lead to a successful match, a chance to finally get that opportunity at love and warmth Jaehyun so clearly needed and deserved.

However, as the time for Jaehyun's final consultation arrived, the team received a blow when Jaehyun failed to show up. The disappointment was palpable as they realized that their efforts to help Jaehyun find love had come to an unexpected halt. Doyoung, in particular, felt a sense of disappointment and frustration at Jaehyun's absence. He had invested so much time and energy into crafting the perfect options for Jaehyun, only to be met with silence and uncertainty, perhaps he just realized this wasn’t the way for him but still.

Despite the setback, Doyoung and the matchmakers remained committed to their mission of helping their clients find love. They knew that setbacks were a natural part of the matchmaking process, and they were determined to overcome this obstacle and continue their quest to bring love and happiness into the lives of others.

As Nayeon and Sooyoung exchanged knowing glances, a silent understanding passed between them. Perhaps they had an inkling of the reason behind Jaehyun's absence, his growing interest in Doyoung. Their shared glance conveyed a depth of understanding that went beyond words. They knew that presenting Jaehyun's feelings for Doyoung to their colleague would likely fall on deaf ears. Doyoung was fiercely dedicated to his professional responsibilities and often had difficulty acknowledging his own emotions, especially when it came to matters of love.

Instead of voicing their suspicions to Doyoung, Nayeon and Sooyoung exchanged a subtle nod, silently agreeing to respect Jaehyun's privacy and allow him to navigate his feelings in his own time. They knew that forcing the issue would only serve to alienate Jaehyun and potentially harm their professional relationship with both him and Doyoung. Also, they knew that true love was worth waiting for, and they were determined to help Doyoung find his happily ever after, no matter how long it took.

With Jaehyun's absence leaving them with an even number of clients once again, the matchmakers set to work arranging all the dates, ensuring that each client would have the opportunity to meet their potential match. Despite the setback, they remained dedicated to their mission of helping their remaining clients. Working tirelessly to coordinate the logistics, the matchmakers meticulously planned each date, taking into account the unique preferences and personalities of their clients. From romantic dinners to adventurous outings, they curated a diverse range of experiences designed to foster connections and spark chemistry.

As the final details fell into place, a sense of satisfaction washed over the team. Despite the challenges they had faced along the way, they had succeeded in ensuring that no client would be left out and that everyone would have the chance to get a chance on the most romantic day of the year.

As Valentine's Day approached, the matchmakers couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation and excitement. They knew that their carefully planned dates had the potential to change lives and create lasting connections. And as they prepared to send their clients off on their romantic adventures, they felt a renewed sense of purpose and pride in the work they did.

 ♡

When Valentine's Day arrived, Doyoung found himself alone in his office, the quiet solitude amplifying the weight of Jaehyun's absence on what should have been a day filled with love and celebration. While the other matchmakers were off enjoying their own dates or spending time with friends, Doyoung remained behind in his office, lost in thought.

The memory of Jaehyun's sudden departure from the matchmaking process weighed heavily on Doyoung's mind, casting a shadow over what should have been a joyous occasion. It wasn't just about arranging a date for Jaehyun—it was about creating a special experience for him on his birthday, a day that should have been filled with happiness and love, accompanied by another.

Doyoung couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment and sadness at the turn of events. Despite his best efforts to help Jaehyun find love, it seemed that fate had other plans in store. But amidst the disappointment, Doyoung couldn't shake the feeling of gratitude for the opportunity to have crossed paths with Jaehyun, however brief it may have been, he had been charming, kind and a joy to talk with, a client that stood out in his mind and years of experience.

As he looked towards the city, Doyoung knew that there would be more challenges and obstacles to overcome, but he also knew that love had a way of finding its way into even the most unexpected of places. And as he sat alone in his office on Valentine's Day, he held onto the hope that one day, he would find his own happily ever after, just like the countless couples he had helped bring together.

But close to 7:00 p.m. Doyoung got tired of just thinking about Jaehyun in majority, and he exited the building, it was Valentine's day, but it was also Jaehyun’s birthday and Doyoung had known through the consults that he was likely alone on this special day. On the way he bought a small cake, which was a Herculean task on such special days where sweets were a favorite, he had to get a simple one small enough to feed only two people, with a white covering and a small heart as decoration.

With that ticked off his small list, he used the amazing memory that he possessed —and the more of a dozen times that he had read Jaehyun’s file, and he got going to the surroundings of Jaehyun's workplace, he recognized it was kind of creepy but knowing his clients schedules and patterns was only a part of the job.

Close to 9:00 p.m. as Doyoung made his way toward the surroundings of Jaehyun's workplace, the cold evening air did little to ease the tension that had settled deep within him. He clutched the small cake in his hand, a symbol of the gesture he hoped would brighten Jaehyun's Valentine's Day, despite the unexpected turn of events.

A mixture of anticipation and uncertainty pressed against his chest with each step he took. It had been some time since they last saw each other properly, and he wasn't entirely sure how his presence would be received. He hadn't planned this in advance, hadn’t rehearsed what he would say. He had only acted on impulse, on an unshakable feeling that despite everything, he needed to see Jaehyun tonight.

The streets were surrounded by the distant murmur of people still lingering near the late-night cafés, restaurants and other establishments that hosted the lovely couples on this day. The city lights cast long shadows against the pavement, and as Doyoung neared the familiar bench where he had often imagined finding Jaehyun during his breaks, he saw him—exactly where he had hoped he would be.

But the sight that greeted him wasn’t what he had envisioned.

Jaehyun sat alone on the worn wooden bench, his figure partially illuminated by the dim glow of the streetlamp overhead. He was hunched forward slightly, his elbows resting on his knees, a cigarette loosely held between his fingers. The orange ember burned faintly against the darkness, casting a soft glow against his features before he lifted it to his lips, inhaling slowly.

Doyoung stilled for a moment.

Of course, he was a social smoker, it was in his profile, Doyoung remembered himself, but there was something different about this—something quieter. It wasn’t the usual casual indulgence that came with fleeting moments of stress or frustration. Tonight, there was an air of solitude about him, a kind of loneliness that clung to him despite his composed posture.

For a brief second, Doyoung wondered if he should turn back. If this was a moment Jaehyun wanted to himself. But the thought barely had time to take root before his feet carried him forward, the weight of his emotions outweighing his hesitation.

“Jaehyun,” he called out softly, careful not to startle him. His voice was warm, tentative, like a quiet knock on a door that he wasn’t sure would be opened. “I hope you don’t mind me joining you.”

Jaehyun looked up, his eyes flickering with a brief flash of surprise before softening into something unreadable. He exhaled a slow stream of smoke, his gaze holding Doyoung’s for a moment too long before he gave a small nod, gesturing to the empty space beside him.

"Not at all, Doyoung," Jaehyun replied, his voice tinged with genuine appreciation. "I'm surprised to see you here."

Doyoung let out a quiet breath, relieved that he wasn’t being turned away. He sat down beside Jaehyun, close enough that their shoulders nearly brushed, though he kept a respectful space between them. The night air was cool, but it wasn’t unbearable, and for a moment, silence settled between them—comfortable.

“I brought you something,” Doyoung said after a beat, shifting slightly as he turned to face Jaehyun more fully. He held out the small cake, carefully wrapped and slightly warm from being in his hands for so long. “It’s not much, but… I wanted to wish you a happy birthday.”

Jaehyun blinked, momentarily caught off guard. His eyes flickered between the cake and Doyoung’s face, something unreadable passing through his expression. He hesitated for just a fraction of a second before reaching out, his fingers brushing against Doyoung’s as he took the offering.

A slow smile crept onto his lips—small, genuine.

“You remembered,” Jaehyun said, his voice quieter now, almost as if he hadn’t expected anyone to.

“Of course I did,” Doyoung replied, his own smile faint but earnest. “I wasn’t sure if I should come, but… I didn’t want you to spend today alone.”

Jaehyun let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head as he set the cake down on his lap. He took another slow drag from his cigarette before stubbing it out on the side of the bench, exhaling the last remnants of smoke into the crisp night air.

"Thank you, Doyoung," Jaehyun said, his voice filled with genuine appreciation. "This means a lot to me."

Doyoung glanced at him, studying the way Jaehyun’s jaw tensed slightly, as if he had more to say but wasn’t sure if he should. The dim light cast soft shadows over his face, highlighting the sharp angles of his cheekbones and the slight furrow in his brow.

“Do you—” Doyoung hesitated, glancing at the small cake in Jaehyun’s lap. “Do you want to eat it together?”

Jaehyun looked down at the cake, then back at Doyoung, his lips quirking slightly. “You didn’t bring a knife, did you?”

Doyoung laughed softly, shaking his head. “I wasn’t thinking that far ahead. I figured we could just eat it with our hands.”

Jaehyun smirked, shaking his head in amusement before carefully peeling back the wrapping. He broke off a small piece and held it up, studying it for a moment before glancing at Doyoung.

“Well, since you went through all the trouble… might as well.”

They ate in quiet companionship, passing small pieces of cake between them, their fingers brushing occasionally in the exchange. There was an ease to it, a sense of normalcy that neither of them had expected. As the conversation between them settled into a quieter lull, the remnants of the small cake still in Jaehyun’s hands, Doyoung found his gaze drifting—taking in the way Jaehyun leaned back slightly against the bench, his fingers idly picking at the crinkled wrapper. There was something undeniably intimate about the moment, a fragile thread of warmth that neither of them had expected when the night had begun.

But beneath that ease, beneath the subtle amusement in Jaehyun’s features, there was something unsaid. Something lingering between them.

Doyoung swallowed, his fingers curling slightly in his lap before he spoke, his voice carefully measured. “By the way… you never showed up to your final consultation.”

Jaehyun’s fingers paused. He exhaled slowly, a knowing smirk tugging at his lips. “You noticed?”

Doyoung gave him a pointed look. “Of course I did. I spent weeks putting together those profiles. I double-checked everything. Your name was still in the roster, and you never canceled.”

Jaehyun hummed, shifting slightly to stretch his legs out in front of him. “Yeah, I didn’t cancel it.”

Doyoung frowned. “Then why didn’t you go?”

Jaehyun tilted his head slightly, looking at him—really looking at him. The streetlamp above cast a soft glow over his face, accentuating the subtle curve of his smile, the quiet intensity behind his gaze.

“I wasn’t interested in any of them,” he said simply.

Doyoung blinked. “What?”

Jaehyun turned his body slightly to face him more fully. “I looked through the prospects, all the profiles you put together. They were nice. Interesting people, probably perfect for someone.” He paused, then tilted his head. “Just not for me.”

Doyoung stared at him, trying to piece together what he was saying, why he was saying it now. “So… you just decided not to go and don’t tell us?”

Jaehyun exhaled a quiet chuckle, shaking his head. “Doyoung,” he said, voice softer now, as if trying to spell something out that Doyoung refused to see. “I wasn’t interested in them. I was interested in you.”

The words hit Doyoung like a slow-moving realization, creeping into his mind, into his chest, unfolding piece by piece before he even had the chance to fully process them. His lips parted slightly, but no words came out.

Jaehyun took in his expression, then huffed a quiet laugh, running a hand through his hair. “God, I really just said that, huh?” He exhaled, leaning forward again, resting his elbows on his knees. “I mean, I figured I’d tell you eventually, but I didn’t plan for it to happen like this.”

Doyoung was still frozen, his thoughts tangled in Jaehyun’s confession. He had spent so much time curating perfect dates, carefully crafting scenarios for other people—ones filled with candlelit dinners, scenic walks, perfectly timed music playing in the background. Love stories meticulously arranged down to the smallest detail, all designed to ensure that everything went according to plan.

But this?

This was far from any of those well-orchestrated fantasies.

Here they were, sitting on a worn-out bench in the middle of the night, an already half-eaten cake between them, the faint scent of cigarette smoke still lingering in the cold air. There was no grand setting, no carefully selected playlist, no romantic backdrop. Just them. Just Jaehyun looking at him with that same disarming sincerity that always managed to unravel him.

And yet, somehow, this moment felt more real than anything Doyoung had ever tried to create.

He forced himself to clear his throat, though his voice still wavered slightly when he finally spoke. “You—” He stopped, exhaled, then tried again. “You’re serious?”

Jaehyun glanced at him, his gaze unwavering. “Yeah.”

Doyoung let out a breath he didn’t realize he had been holding, his grip tightening slightly on his sleeves. His heart was hammering against his ribs, his mind racing through every interaction they had ever had, searching for the signs he might have missed, the moments he had dismissed.

Doyoung had written romance for other people a hundred times over, had painted love in the most delicate of strokes for clients who longed for it. But standing in the center of it now, he found himself at a loss.

He swallowed hard. “I don’t— I don’t know what to say.”

Jaehyun nodded in understanding, his expression filled with empathy. "I understand if you need time to process this," he said softly. "But I couldn't let Valentine's Day pass without telling you how I feel."

Doyoung let out a shaky breath, looking down at the crinkled cake wrapper between them. “This isn’t how I imagined a confession.”

Jaehyun smirked. “Not exactly a five-star restaurant, huh?”

Doyoung shook his head, a small, breathless laugh escaping him. “Not even close.”

Jaehyun leaned in just slightly, his voice lower, more amused. “And yet, you’re still here.”

Doyoung’s breath hitched and somehow he just stopped thinking.

With a surge of emotion overtaking him, Doyoung leaned in, his body moving before his mind could catch up. His fingers gripped the bench beside him for stability, his breath shaky, uneven, as he closed the space between them. Jaehyun barely had time to react before their lips met.

The kiss was hesitant at first, a soft press of lips, as if testing the waters. But the moment Jaehyun responded, tilting his head slightly, his free hand lifting to rest lightly against Doyoung’s jaw, the hesitancy melted away. A fire ignited between them, burning hot and fast, electrifying Doyoung down to his very core. Jaehyun’s lips were warm against his, firm yet pliant, moving in a slow but deliberate rhythm. It wasn’t rushed, nor desperate, but it carried a weight, a meaning that neither of them could deny.

Doyoung felt himself drowning in the sensation, in the way Jaehyun’s thumb brushed over his cheek in a quiet reassurance, in the way their breaths mixed, creating an intoxicating atmosphere between them.

When they finally pulled apart, Doyoung’s chest rose and fell rapidly, his lips tingling from the contact. His eyes fluttered open, locking onto Jaehyun’s gaze. There was something unreadable in those deep eyes—something vulnerable, something expectant.

His gaze drifted downward unconsciously, and that’s when he noticed it, the still-burning cigarette held between Jaehyun’s fingers, its ember glowing faintly in the dim light. A stark contrast to the romance of the moment, an almost absurd reminder of the circumstances surrounding them.

Doyoung let out a quiet, breathy laugh. “This… is not how I pictured any of my Valentine’s Days going.”

Jaehyun smirked, tilting the cigarette away from him before taking one last slow drag and flicking the remains to the ground, snuffing it out with the heel of his shoe. “Yeah?” he mused. “And what did you imagine?”

Doyoung bit his lip, shaking his head slightly. “I don’t know. Something…romantic, I guess. Maybe a fancy dinner, soft music, perfectly planned moments.” He let out another laugh, this one more self-deprecating. “I’ve spent so much time crafting perfect dates for other people that I never really stopped to think about what I’d want for myself.”

Jaehyun studied him for a long moment before reaching out, taking Doyoung’s free hand on his own. The touch was firm yet gentle, grounding him in a way that nothing else had. His thumb ran absentmindedly over Doyoung’s knuckles, a quiet act of intimacy that sent warmth curling through Doyoung’s veins.

“Well,” Jaehyun murmured, voice lower now, more thoughtful. “Maybe that’s why this is perfect.”

Doyoung raised an eyebrow. “Sitting on a random bench, in the cold, eating cake with our hands and kissing between cigarette breaks?”

Jaehyun chuckled, his smirk widening. “Exactly.”

Doyoung rolled his eyes, but there was no real irritation behind it. He squeezed Jaehyun’s hand slightly, feeling the warmth between them. The small cake, half eaten and slightly squashed from the movement between them, sat between them, a tiny, imperfect thing, but a symbol nonetheless.

A symbol of something unexpected.

A symbol of a night that had unfolded in a way Doyoung never could have predicted, yet somehow, it felt real and genuine.

As if sensing his thoughts, Jaehyun leaned in, his voice quieter this time. “Not everything needs to be perfect, Doyoung. Sometimes, the best things happen when you’re not trying so hard to make them happen.”

Doyoung swallowed hard, his chest tightening at the words. He wasn’t sure what to say, wasn’t sure how to put into words the way Jaehyun made him feel like maybe, for the first time, he didn’t have to have all the answers.

So instead of speaking, he leaned in again.

This time, the kiss was slower, more deliberate. There was no urgency, no need to prove anything. It was simply them, existing in this moment, together.

The cigarette may have burned out. The cake may have been imperfect. The night may have been colder than either of them would have liked. But none of that mattered. Because as Doyoung melted into Jaehyun’s warmth, he realized something.

This was still a love story, theirs only.

Maybe not the kind he had envisioned.

Maybe not the kind written in carefully crafted romantic scripts.

But one that he actually got to be the protagonist of.
