Chapter Text
Tokyo, Japan 2005.
The seasons had just begun to shift, winter's chilling embrace giving way to the warmness of Spring. Though the air still held some of it's chill, along the country side of Japan, the forests had once more began to flourish. The month of March was drawing to a close, and that meant soon a new batch of students would be arriving at Jujutsu High.
"This year's new students look promising," stated one voice amongst the dim lit room.
"It has been quite some time since we've had a member of the Gojo clan attending our schools," another spoke in agreement.
"The boy is a prodigy," another stated, however, the tone was less than enthusiastic. "And from what I've gathered, an over confident and undisciplined brat."
"Indeed, but it is our duty to ensure each and every student has the opportunity to hone and cultivate their skills," there was a pause, "Regardless of their status among the clans."
"Satoru Gojo, heir of the Gojo clan and inherenter of the six eyes. Shoko Ieiri, already mastering the art of the reverse cursed technique and tested top of our admission exam. And lastly, Suguru Geto, scouted by Masamichi Yaga," Yoshinobu concluded. "I trust Masamichi's judgment on the latter for admission to Jujutsu High."
"Then we are all in agreement for each student's admission?"
The room fell silent, not an utterance of opposition could be heard.
"Then it is settled, this meeting is adjouned."
--- April 11th, 2005---
The roar of the bullet train was mind numbing as it traversed the countryside, the scenery slipping by like spilled ink on parchment paper. Lush green forests turned into green seas that stretched far beyond the horizon and met a crystal blue sky. It was both beautiful and a stark reminder that life was about to drastically change for the young Jujutsu sorcerer, Suguru Geto.
The dark haired teen continued to stare out the window, his lashes veiling his purple eyes as he watched his home town disappear from sight. Though he had ventured into other cities, this time felt both bitter sweet and exhilarating, a new chapter of his life and finally a chance to understand his "gift", as professor Yaga had described it.
Turning himself away from the window, the boy allowed himself a moment of reflection, closing his eyes and meditating as he often did when preparing for a martial arts match. He took a deep inhale through his nose, then slowly exhaled as he tried to quell his lingering anxieties about going to this strange school. Of course he was eager to learn more, coming from a family with no inherent sorcerers, he never understood the strange creatures he saw haunting members of his town, and how he was the only one capable of seeing them... and absorbing them.
The fact there were others like him, sorcerers who used their power to protect the weak, it made his heart feel lighter. His family would be safe, his friends he was leaving behind could live freely, and all of this was due to the work of Jujutsu sorcerers. A small smile spread across his lips.
It wouldn't be much longer that the train would reach it's final destination, Shibuya station. Admittedly it was a little overwhelming, the sheer amount of people caught the young boy off guard, making him wonder if he'd be able to find his chaperone in the crowd. Purple hues scanned the crowds before he felt a hand press upon his right shoulder, causing him to jump.
"Suguru Geto, its been a while, I hope you've been well."
The boy spun, locking eyes with none other than Masamichi Yaga, the same man who had scouted him for his curse controlling technique. How he had managed to sneak up on the youth without detection was beyond him, but never the less he was happy to have found him, if not relieved.
"Mr.Masamichi Yaga, it's wonderful to meet you again," he offered a warm smile, gently bowing his head.
"Just call me Mr.Yaga, there's no need to be so formal," the man was gruff, straight forward, but he seemed to be good natured from what the teen could recall.
"Yo," came an unexpected voice as a sleepy eyed girl peeked out from behind the older man. "So you're Suguru Geto, huh? Nice, that means we can go right? I need a cigarette."
"And you are?" Suguru arched a brow, slightly taken aback from the girl's almost lackadaisical attitude.
"Shoko Ieiri," the girl replied, offering a tired smile. "Nice to meet you, looks like we're both going to be attending---."
Yaga cleared his throat, halting the conversation before anything else could be said, "We can finish our introductions at the school," he looked back at Shoko, eliciting a small pout from the girl. "And no smoking."
A loud groan as protest escaped Shoko, the exchange slightly catching Suguru off guard. So she was a curse user like him and professor Yaga, but she just seemed like an ordinary girl. Perhaps not all cursed technique users were as disciplined as the teacher was, which was in itself reassuring. She was just a kid like him.
"Ah... wasn't there supposed to be three of us?" Suguru inquired, curiously peeking around to see if another student was hiding behind Yaga.
"The last student will be meeting us at the academy," he answered, almost a little too quickly. "We can discuss more there, lets go."
Tentatively Suguru followed, his curiosity building. It seemed that speaking about Jujutsu High in public spaces was not prohibited, the teen had to wonder why. Perhaps, much like his family had been, the general public was unaware of curses and Jujutsu sorcerers.
The trek to the school was mostly quiet, the only conversation consisting of Shoko asking Suguru what his hometown was like. What he liked to do for fun. Then finally she cupped her mouth and whispered into his ear, asking if he smoked and if so, if she could borrow his lighter. The latter resulted in Yaga fussing at her once more, Suguru covered his mouth as he stifled a laugh and Shoko just gave a slightly dramatic sigh.
Already this put his mind at ease, perhaps life at Jujutsu High would be easier to adapt to then he initially thought. It wasn't until they crossed the threshold of the school that their chaperone began to really speak, giving them the history and importance of the school in the Jujutsu world. Geto paused in the courtyard, gazing upon the historical looking buildings in awe.
This would be his new life now.
Following behind Yaga and Shoko, they ventured into the building, the interior being not so different than Suguru's old school. It almost felt familiar, nostalgic.
After being instructed to drop off their belongings to their respective dorm rooms, they would be meeting in the classroom for actual, formal, introductions. As Suguru unpacked, he had to wonder what his third and final classmate would be like. Perhaps they would be like him, a random sorcerer born from a normal family. Or maybe like Shoko, but hopefully a little more respectful of their elders.
Or maybe like Professor Yaga...
He stifled a small laugh as he pictured a "student" Masamichi Yaga.
Satisfied with his room for the time being, he took a moment to take in his surroundings, then finally he picked up his uniform that had been so neatly folded on his bed. It was an almost perfect fit; however, he wasn't quite a fan of the straight pant legs, they felt too constricting. Recalling he could ask for a modification, he made a mental note to request the alterations as soon as possible.
Walking to the classroom, he paused, taking in the sight before him. It looked like any other classroom, curious. Taking a seat, he pulled out his cell phone, texting his mother before he would meet his final classmate. A warm smile on his lips as he read over her message, putting it away as Shoko and professor Yaga arrived.
"Your last classmate is running a little behind, so while we wait, do you have any questions so far?"
Suguru nodded, "So the general public isn't aware of curses or cursed technique users?" Recalling how their conversation had been halted at Shibuya station, it had weighed on the teen's mind.
"Correct. Jujutsu society exists as an external force, while we can see and have the means to exercise curses, normal humans can't see them or protect themselves. It's our duty to protect those who are helpless and to keep balance."
So he had been correct with his assumption, taking in Mr.Yaga's words with heavy consideration. They were responsible for protecting the weak. Just as Suguru was about to ask another question, the door to the classroom flew open, causing him and Shoko to jump.
"Satoru Gojo, you're late," Yaga scolded.
"What? You missed me, old man? I'm touched."
Suguru watched as another teen entered the classroom. The boy didn't seem much different from him physically, but carried himself like he had an aire of importance. He seemed arrogant and brash, a smug smile still painted his lips.
"That's Mr.Yaga to you, Gojo," he corrected. "And since you finally decided to deign us with your presence, you can lead the introductions."
"Aw c'mon, haven't you heard you save the best for last?"
Suguru frowned, noting that Shoko didn't seem all that impressed either. Just who did this kid think he was? A loud, dramatic sigh escaped the white haired teen, resigning himself to Mr.Yaga's instruction.
"Fiiiiine. As you heard, I'm Satoru Gojo," he grinned, pulling his glasses from his face to reveal bright, piercing, cerulean eyes. "And I'm sort of a big deal."
They were not going to get along.
